Laura
I'm awkwardly sitting in the backseat of the black SUV, pressed between two huge musclemen. They are both werewolves. Fighting them wouldn't serve a purpose—I would lose any day of the week.
It's also hard to accept this, but what is happening now might not be the end of the world. I won't be freezing inside my car tonight, and if Caleb is a billionaire, I won't be starving.
Unless he intends to lock me up or something?
Shit, I didn't think of that until now!
What if Caleb has wicked plans for me, like tying me up with rope inside a sex chamber or something?
Not that I'm super sexy or anything. Caleb probably has plenty of options of beautiful girls better looking than me, but what if my best friend has turned into a sadist? And I'm the victim he wants!
Chills crawl over my skin.
I'm not ready to be handed golden showers or be hanged on a wall or something else twisted!
"So, is the journey long?" I awkwardly ask.
One of the werewolves shifts in his seat, and my pulse ticks against my neck in a wild panic.
I might be curvy, but I'm short, and these two werewolves are not. They are enormous enough to intimidate me.
I feel like a freaking doll next to them.
"It will be a couple of hours before we arrive."
I grimace. "Great."
One of the men glances down at me. I can't see his eyes since he is wearing black shades. "Alpha Caleb will be very pleased to see you again, Miss Edgard. We have been informed about you, and if I'm not mistaken, you will be married to the alpha within a week."
Wait, run back the tape—did he say married?
I stare at him. "W-what do you mean married? I'm not getting married to Caleb. You got it wrong. He is my childhood friend, and there wasn't any mention of a wedding when we spoke on the phone!"
Not Caleb mentioned his plan of kidnapping me either...
Either way, I demand answers.
The two men exchange a glance and then look back at me. A heavy sigh leaves the lips of the one who spoke. He is bald and looks like Mr. Bubbles from Disney's Lily & Stitch.
"I take it our alpha has yet to inform you of what will happen once you arrive at his mansion. I must apologize for that, Miss Edgard," the man reaches out his hand. "I'm Caleb's beta, Marcus."
We shake hands.
"It's a pleasure to meet you."
I don't mean my words.
There is an unsettling feeling in my stomach. It's telling me Marcus is keeping information away from me. Yet I manage a polite smile—I'm not stupid enough to challenge the mountain man.
Marcus retrieves his hand and brushes it against his dark pants to get rid of the hand sweat that coated my palm.
"Likewise, Miss Edgard. I'm actually looking forward to having you at the mansion. Hopefully, you will even join the Rivermoon pack, seeing you're a rogue werewolf right now."
I blink in surprise.
What the heck?
I'm not strong or memorable: there is no reason for a pack to want to recruit me. Yet Marcus is smiling. It gives birth to a suspicion that latches on to the words coming out of my mouth.
"Why would you want me to join your pack?" My tone is skeptical, not to mention distrustful. "I'm a nobody."
Marcus doesn't wince at my narrowed eyes. He keeps his calm and politely answers my question.
"As I said, Caleb has spoken a lot about you, and everything has been to compliment you. Maybe you're exactly what our pack needs? Or alpha strongly believes you might be able to change things in our pack, or else you wouldn't be sitting in this car."
"And what do your pack need? If I may ask. I've heard the Rivermoon pack is one of the strongest ones."
"Yes, but..." Marcus hesitates but eventually sighs in defeat. He doesn't seem good at keeping secrets. "It's not my business to tell you this, but there is a curse burdening the Rivermoon pack. I'm hoping you're the one that could break it."
A Curse?
What is this: a Disney movie?
Again, I'm caught staring at Marcus. But I blame him for saying stuff that doesn't make sense to me. I've also been given too much information to process right now—the shock from hearing about the marriage was enough to fry my last brain cell.
"Curse? What do you mean?"
Marcus smiles mysteriously. "The rest you have to figure out yourself, Miss Edgard. Just remember that there is a reason for everything happening inside the mansion. The Rivermoon pack is special."
A shudder crawls down my spine at his words, and my discomfort settles like lead in my stomach.
How do I go from a runaway bride to being kidnapped by my childhood friend in one day?
And now Caleb's pack is cursed?
I must also be half-crazy because I'm curious about Caleb. What does he look like today? I bet he is handsome. Probably tall, too. He was already a giant before he moved away from Werewolf Valley.
Muscular.
Beautiful.
Hot.
Not to mention kind and funny when we used to hang out. It's why I fell in love with Caleb in the past, and he was a gentleman on the phone, too—until he decided to kidnap me.
Now I'm not sure what I think of Caleb. I can't hate him, but seriously? The guy kidnapped me, for fuck's sake!
What is he thinking???
"Uh..." I wet my lips. "Is there a chance for me to speak to Caleb, or do I have to wait until we arrive?"
"I'm sure you're nervous," Marcus says. "But tonight is a full moon, so Caleb will be... Busy."
"Oh..." I'm unsure why I'm saying "oh" as if I understand because I have no clue what Caleb could be busy with. Rituals? Sacrifices? The possibilities are endless. "Can I speak to him tomorrow then?"
"Maybe," Marcus sighs. "Our alpha rarely sees people in person unless the business is crucial. He keeps himself locked up in his office. But perhaps he might answer a phone call?"
I snort. "Wait, are you saying I will be taken to the same mansion where Caleb is living, and he won't even see me?"
"Possibly." Marcus picks up his phone. It must be his sign to inform me he doesn't want me to keep talking to him.
He scrolls on it, and I try not to feel too awkward about being pressed between two giants. What the heck has my life turned into?
I'm getting married to Caleb?
And what is this about him locking himself inside his office, perhaps unwilling to speak to me in person?
Laura Marcus hits his chest and clears his throat once we are standing outside Caleb's mansion at sunrise. Great. I can't say I'm interested in listening to the beta. I barely slept in the car since I was pressed between two giants. I'm dying to go inside and find myself a fancy bed. "Once we head inside, you can't see Caleb," Marcus tells me in a strict tone, burying his eyes in mine. "There was a full moon last night, and I'm not sure what mental state our alpha will be found in. He might still be aggressive and mad." "From a full moon?" I ask, confused. "Yes, alpha Caleb reacts that way to moonlight. He gets... Upset. Most of the time, he is also aggressive in his human form. That's why you might only see him as a wolf. When we hunt, for example." Now it's my turn to glare up at Marcus. I don't care that he is at least a foot taller than me. I might only be five feet tall, but I'm not a coward, and I won't let this big man tell me what and what not to do. "Listen here," I
LauraSleeping in a mansion that isn't yours is somewhat unsettling. I also think I've woken up like a billion times because it isn't nighttime. Everything is bright. Ths sunlight is creeping in through a crack in the blinds. Birds are singing the song of their people outside, and I've heard many people stomp past the bedroom I claimed as my own. Ugh, why can't they all just be quiet?!I've been tossing and turning throughout the morning, but since I got no sleep in the car, can anyone blame me?KNOCKKNOCKSome bastard knocks on my door, and I growl in response. I'm usually never this aggressive, but I was kidnapped. People got to understand I'm pissed about my situation! And the only clothes I have is a freaking wedding dress that smells like ABSOLUT VODKA!I growl in irritation. "What the fuck do you want, and why are you disturbing my sleep?!""Uh, it's me."Me?Is that a weird werewolf name around here, or is the man outside my door a complete tool?"Who the hell is me?" My voi
Laura After eating lunch, I'm standing by the sink and pre-washing my plate for the dishwasher. The water is running, and Ryan and Marcus walk for the door to leave the kitchen. "That hit the spot!" Ryan's arms are behind his head, and a boyish grin plays over his lush lips. "I'm going to nap in the garden in my usual spot before practice starts." Marcus is patting his stomach, satisfied with the meal. "I might join you. Get some nice sunshine." I roll my eyes. Could those two idiots even be more obvious? The two werewolves only wish to leave Caleb alone with me. But they are dead wrong if they think I will yield. No matter Caleb's apology, I won't forgive him for kidnapping me, and what is this about becoming his wife? And what, who the hell is Jenna, and why is Caleb betrothed to her?! Damn. I swear I'm not in love with Caleb or anything, but... The fact that he is betrothed to someone else bothers me. I'm not jealous, though! Uh-uh, not me, not even a little bit! I continu
LauraI bitterly swallow coffee while watching Marcus gather the new recruits to become warrior werewolves. I was never allowed to join these training sessions back in my pack. Women weren't supposed to fight. We were expected to be calm and collected. Our alpha preferred we learned the piano instead of playing in the garden with swords like the boisterous boys did.The Rivermoon pack, however, is all about equality. Both teenage boys and girls look up at Marcus expectantly. They are smiling under the blazing sun, wearing shorts since the weather is warm. And me?I brought a sun chair and a bottle of coca-cola that I found in the fridge. I'm wearing a cap on my head that smells like Caleb, and then I stole a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses. It's summer in Caleb's country, and I'm going to watch these werewolves train.I'm very comfortable and wave at Marcus when he stares at me. His face immediately turns pale, and I frown. The poor beta is either afraid of me, or he finds me strange. I
LauraI'm baffled when it hits me full force that Jenna is the sister of alpha Roger and that she belongs to the Sunlight Shiver pack.Okay. I didn't expect that.I can't even speak—what do you say in a moment like this?I'm sorry I left your brother and the altar and humiliated you and your entire pack by rejecting him?Pft, that would be terrible. As if reading my mind, Jenna snorts. "What's the matter? Did the cat steal your tongue? Why did you suddenly lose your confidence, huh? Is it because you feel guilty over what you did?"Her friends snicker. I'm not sure what their names are, but they must be twins since they look identical."Either way," Jenna whips her hair over one shoulder, ready to turn away but not without looking me up and down. "You're a dead woman, Laura. Caleb will throw you out of his estate. Your white wolf is the only thing that makes you special—that's why Roger wanted to marry you. But seeing your human form? Damn, you look like a pubescent child. Unattractiv
LauraI'm not easily agitated. Scary movies never made me jump back in high school. My friends never managed to startle me. I can't even remember being afraid of the dark, and I wasn't the slightest unnerved by tales of monsters and ghosts. But I'm terrified now. My pulse is drumming against my neck, and I shake as I lift my chin to face the most enormous creature I've ever seen. The legends said the Lycans were giants, but really?Caleb hunches his massive shoulders to face me. Every muscle on his body bulges, making me freeze.I can't move. My feet might as well have grown gnarled roots and stuck them into the ground. I'm petrified as those blazing eyes lock on mine.Caleb's lips are pulled over his teeth, and his warm breath hits my face.He is more than twice my height. His fur is darker than the night, and his body is swollen with strength. Every finger is equipped with a razor-sharp claw instead of a nail.Powerful. Intimidating.Scary.Yet I believe I can somehow reach him
LauraMy heart is racing, but I'm trying to remain calm. I thread lightly over fallen tree branches, stopping every few seconds to look and listen for any humans camping out here. Luckily, I'm only met with the sun dancing through the canopies far above me and the sound of birdsong.Still, I have to keep up my guard. The Rivermoon pack might own these woods. Yet humans tend to get curious enough to enter other people's lands. Humans can't smell and tell which territory belongs to which werewolf pack, and neither do they know about us werewolves existing. So it's not like I can blame them for coming here. But it would be tragic if Caleb ended up killing someone innocent."Caleb?!" I shout, circling my mouth with my hands. "Caleb? Are you here somewhere?"I hear rustling from a bush, but panic drills me like an arrow when I pick up the scent—it smells like the Sunlight Shiver pack! Before I get the chance to shape-shift, a large brown wolf jumps over me and snarls into my face. My b
LauraWaking up in the arms of a man feels great until I've fully opened my eyes. Caleb's beautiful face is in front of me. His eyes are closed, and those thick dark eyelashes are spread over his cheeks.Holy shit, he is back to his human self, and we are both naked! My cheeks go warm and hot, and I shriek, causing the man to tighten his hold of me. I'm hugged to his chiseled chest, dwarfed by Caleb, who keeps sleeping. "Caleb..." I hiss. "Let go of me!"Caleb stirs in his sleep and slowly opens his blue eyes. They stare into mine for the briefest moment before his eyebrows rise. "Sorry, but..." his voice is deeper after having recently woken up, and he smacks his tongue before speaking. "Where the fuck are we?"Oh.Caleb doesn't remember?"You turned into a lycan during practice after someone bit you..." I squirm to escape from his arms, but the bastard is strong. He doesn't even seem to notice I'm fighting him. "And is that a fucking erection?!"Five large fingers graze my back.
Laura"Happy Birthday to you!" Caleb and I sing to our daughter, Mandy, who has just turned two. It's her birthday, and I have organized this colossal birthday bash for her, but she does not look thrilled."I wanna ride the bunny..." Mandy mumbles and points at Gary, who shakes his head no."Come on, Gary, be a good sport and let her ride your back!" Caleb looks at him with pleading eyes."Hell no! She pulls my ears a lot, and it hurts." Gary frowns.I look at Mandy. "Sweetheart, if uncle Gary let you ride on his back, do you promise not to pull his ears?"Mandy's lips curls into a mischievous smile. "I promise.""I don't trust her." Gary shakes his head again."Go ahead, Gary. Take Mandy for a ride on your shoulders. If you do that, I will let take you out on a date. You know, that amazing place you've always wanted to go to?" Marcus smirks. Gary's eyes light up. "The bugs bunny world? You know he is my idol!"I roll my eyes. Their relationship is a doozy. I don't know how and when
LauraI'm over the moon.I finally have everything I've ever wanted. Jenna is gone forever after being digested by Gary, I have Caleb as my mate, and now I am going to have his baby. What more could I want in life?Except, I have one small problem.Well, err... It's a problem."How much longer do you think he will stay with us?" Caleb whispers to me as we watch Gary chomping on his carrots. It is day two, and Gary is still here. "I don't know. I tried to ask Gary to find another place, but he said he likes this house a lot," I whisper back, shrugging at the situation. "I don't know how to get rid of him.""Erm...I can hear you two..." Gary says between munching. He puts down the carrot and points at his ears. "You see these things? They are not just ears. They act as antennas. I can hear things from miles away."Well, that's just lovely."By the way! These orange sticks are delicious! Can't believe my world doesn't have them. More reason to stay here!" Gary chirps and eats another c
CalebI miss Laura. She hasn't been gone that long, but it feels like my heart has been torn out of my chest. I haven't been able to sleep since she disappeared.I feel so helpless because I don't know how to reach her. Is she okay? Is she in trouble? Is she even alive?I hear a soft knock on my door, but I ignore it. I don't feel like having a visitor at the moment. Maybe if I don't answer the door, whoever it is outside will walk away slowly. Most people are afraid of me nowadays anyway."Caleb! Open the door, goddamnit."I am even more annoyed when I hear Jenna's voice. Ever since I found out about what she did to Laura, I've done my best not to lash out and do something drastic to her. I want Jenna to suffer for the shrinking Laura thing, but I want it to happen slowly. And I want Laura to be present when I punish Jenna for what she did. Because what's the point of avenging Laura if Laura is not here to enjoy it?"You can come in, Jenna," I announce. The door bursts open, and Jen
LauraI am falling.I don't know for how long, but it feels like an eternity. Not this shit again. Why do I keep being thrown from one place to another? Was following the humanoid rabbit thing into this dark hole the biggest mistake I had ever made?I hope not, but I'm not confident. Alice did the same thing in Wonderland and had a good ole time, didn't she?"Are you having fun yet?"I hear a tiny voice, and it takes me a while to realize the rabbit thing is speaking to me. "No! I am going to be sick. Where are you taking me?""I am not taking you anywhere. The tunnel is doing all the work. I am just the guide." The Rabbit giggles and I feel chills down my bone. Something about this doesn't feel right.I suddenly crashland into something soft. It feels cool and pleasant. I am glad because I was scared that I would break my neck at the speed I was falling.I stand up, fix my clothes, and then look down at what I just crashed into.Oh. You've got to be kidding me!It is piles of nasty b
Laura I'm screaming at the top of my lungs. Flying through a dark sky with ominous thunderclouds and claws digging into the skin of my legs. Blood is trickling down my wounds. I'm in tremendous pain. Yet the only thing I can focus on right now is that this is definitely not my world! Where the hell am I?! "Release me, you psycho!" I scream and try to swing myself to hit her. I fail, which makes me more frustrated. "Let me go!" "No, darling, I can't do that... I'm hungry, so very staaaarving, and I want what is inside you!" "You're sick!" The monster woman hisses at me and flies with me through this realm that looks straight out of a nightmare. The skies are purple, and all the trees are black with arm-like branches without any leaves. No green grass. Only mud and half-dried up lakes. "Where the fuck are we?!" I demand. "Where have you brought me?!" The monster woman laughs. "To my home." "Home?" "The nightmare realm." "What is that?" "The place where monster exists."
Laura Dating Caleb, huh? I would have never thought the day would come. When Caleb moved away from our hometown, and I lost him, I thought it was going to be for good. I never expected us to meet each other again. Then he kidnapped me after my drunk dial, and things were difficult... and now? No one will take him away from me, not even Jenna. I won't let her. It has been a week since we had that conversation, and Caleb finally has the time to take me out on an official date."This ought to be good." I stay in my bedroom all day, trying to figure out what to wear tomorrow. It's almost embarrassing how excited I am. My heart thumps against my chest...what if all this is a mistake? No...I shouldn't think like that. Caleb is my mate, and everything will be wonderful. We will have a beautiful child, and he or she will make us very happy. "Would you stop daydreaming so much and pick an outfit already?" Celina says irritably. "I'm waiting over here."I look at her and gasp as I prett
CelinaI wish the water in the lake was lying to me, but sadly that isn't the case. Those circles underneath my eyes are real. The dry lips. Haunted expression.I shudder. The human version of me is ugly, yet I can't stop staring down at my reflection. It only gets worse the more I look.My eyes are puffy and wide, and the face that used to be perfect as a fairy is now pimply and flawed. There are no more long eyelashes framing my eyes.No more long ears. No more natural glow and beauty. I sigh heavily at my bad luck. How come my mate is so much better-looking than I am?Ryan is gorgeous, younger than me, and popular with the werewolf ladies. Why would he ever pick me? It was humiliating to face him!My lips quiver and I jump in startlement when a twig breaks."So it's here that you've been hiding from me?"I look up to the sound of Ryan's voice and find him smiling at me. Those arms of his are crossed over his beefy chest. His sandy hair is messy, shorter on the sides, and fluff
CelinaI'm at the supernatural market together with Ryan. A barrier keeps the supernatural market out of the human eye to keep everyone safe and happy. Which is a huge relief. There are vendors everywhere on the field outside of the mansion. Different races and species. There are so many people, and they are all selling stuff from their worlds!"Shape-shifting necklace, huh?" Ryan muses and beams at me. "You okay up there?""Yes..." I blush from where I'm sitting on his shoulder. I'm still a bit unused to the intimacy I have with him.We didn't sleep in the same bed, even though I fell asleep next to him during the horror movie. I woke up in his bed alone. But one thing is for sure; he is suspiciously sweet to me. I'm afraid of liking it too much."Oh, look!" Ryan stops by a table with many accessories, gemstones, and necklaces on display. Everything looks expensive. "We might find what you are looking for here!"An old, round witch wearing a purple dress smiles at us. "And what ar
Celina I'm a bundle of nerves. Ryan is showering while I'm sitting on his bed. A large TV is playing in the background, but I'm taking in his room to try and get to know my mate better. He seems orderly. A bit childish, but that's okay. Perhaps even a bit nerdy even though he is wickedly handsome, which is a pleasant surprise. I love people who aren't afraid to be themselves, and Ryan's room tells a lot about him. Everything is neatly organized, but you can tell he has a young heart based on his collection of personal things. Comic books, Pokémon figures, stuffed animals, and pokals from winning swimming competitions line up his shelf. His walls are grey, but his furniture is expensive, and weight sets are everywhere. It doesn't surprise me since Ryan's body is ridiculous. But he also has a computer with multiple screens and stuff; it seems he enjoys playing video games. "Seeing anything you like?" My eyes drift to Ryan's voice, and my IQ drops to the floor. Because now I
