Chapter 92

Author: Vege Pancake
Leonard shot Harvey a glare.

With no more reason to refuse, Leonard had no choice but to give in. "Alright. I'll come with you."

After dinner, Anne caught Leonard just as he was about to sneak upstairs, asking him to join her for a walk. Harvey wanted to tag along, but Leonard made it clear that he'd back out if Harvey came.

Harvey scoffed. "I wouldn't even waste my time if it weren't for keeping Anne company."

The Parker residence sprawled across acres of woods and fields, offering an ideal setting for a walk. Anne had felt a bit on edge, but noticing that Leonard seemed even more wound up than she was helped ease her tension.

"How old were you when you took over the family business?" Anne asked, starting a conversation without much thought.

Leonard's mind instantly drifted back to his younger days. "When I graduated from college, I had plans to go abroad, but then, my dad's health took a downturn, and I had to take over."

"But what about Liam's grandfather, Dave?"

"Harvey did

When Anne asked, Leonard was hit with a wave of regret for having mentioned it."Seems like Harvey hasn't mentioned the past to you," he said.Anne's mind raced as she pieced everything together. Harvey had likely been in a serious relationship at some point. The emotions must have been intense, but things hadn't worked out, and the breakup had left him shaken. So, he probably hadn't been with anyone since then, which was why Leonard and Amelie assumed he'd never marry. But it wasn't a big deal. She had her history with Zachery, and Harvey had his own past."It's fine. He'll open up when he's ready," Anne said.Leonard breathed out in relief. "Don't worry. Harvey's not the kind to mess around. Now that he's married to you, he's committed. But if he ever crosses a line, you come to us. We've got your back."Anne felt a warmth spread through her chest. Leonard and Amelie had been nothing but kind to her.On their way back, they ran into Dave Parker, who was also out for a walk. D

The piano piece flowed gently, filling the room with a quiet, soothing warmth.Anne stepped closer and noticed Harvey was already lost in it, his eyes gentle and calm, like the surface of a quiet lake. As the final notes faded, he reached for her hand and guided her to sit beside him."What was that piece you just played?" she asked.Harvey paused for a moment, then shook his head with a smile. "I can't remember. I just played whatever came to mind.""Your dad said you weren't very good at the violin, but you play the piano pretty well.""I realized the violin wasn't for me, so I switched to the piano.""Is this your piano?"The instrument was covered in cartoon stickers, an unexpected touch that didn't match his usual style."This belongs to Andy's younger sister. Remember Andy? I told you about him."Anne nodded. The year Harvey ran away from home, he formed a close bond with three friends—Charles, Darren, and Andy. But Andy lost his life over a robbery gone wrong."Andy's

It was Zachery. He gripped the doorframe, refusing to let Anne close the door as his eyes locked on her with anger.Anne frowned. "What do you want?"He didn't answer and just stared at her without blinking.Anne took a deep breath. "If you don't move, I'm calling the police!"At her words, Zachery's anger flared even more, and he punched the wall."What the hell are you doing outside my door in the middle of the night?" Anne snapped."I bought the house your parents owned for you!" he said through gritted teeth. She let out a cold laugh. "Oh? But you didn't give it to me. Instead, you kept using it to threaten me.""I was going to give it to you!""Listen to yourself. Don't you think that's ridiculous?"Zachery ran a frustrated hand through his hair. "I will give it to you, but you shouldn't have let Harvey take it from me! H-He had no right! "That house was something you sold for me, a symbol of your love for me! He doesn't deserve it!"Anne shook her head speechlessly.

Zachery only let his pain show after stepping inside his house, clutching on his stomach. His irregular schedule and frequent drinking had likely triggered his gastritis again. If this had been before, Anne would have nagged him nonstop, refusing to let him ruin his health like this. There was no gastric medicine in the first aid kit, but in the kitchen drawer, there was a recipe she had left for making stomach-soothing soup."Anne, do you think I'll just die in pain without you? I can make the soup myself—how hard could it be?"He went into the kitchen, set up a pot, and followed the instructions on the paper. Thankfully, before she moved out, she had left behind all the necessary ingredients. However, even with everything prepared, it was still a hassle. He had to wash each ingredient, peel what needed peeling, and soak what needed soaking before putting everything into the pot.Once the water started boiling, he couldn't step away—he had to keep stirring constantly. With one h

"He seriously needs to see a psychiatrist," Jenny shook her head in exasperation.Anne gave a wry smile. "Honestly, after thinking about it, we really aren't suited to living across from each other.""But that doesn't mean you and Harvey should be the ones to move.""Exactly. That's why I asked him, 'Why don't you and Sophia move out instead?'"Jenny's curiosity was piqued. "What did he say?"Anne sighed. "He said he's been living there for eight years and that the place holds a lot of memories. He can't just abandon them.""He's clearly just trying to disgust you on purpose!""So, I just shut the door in his face and ignored him." Anne glanced around after saying this—they were at Stanley's film set."You're wrapping up today?""Yeah, just one last scene left.""What's next for you?"Jenny sighed. "The company isn't giving me any resources. I'll have to find my own opportunities.""Take your time."They chatted for a bit before Jenny was called to set. They made plans to

"Mr. Marshall, I'm sorry. Let's do another take. I'll make sure to get the emotions right this time," Melanie apologized.Stanley was already fuming but didn't want to explode, so he waved his hand. "Take a break and reflect on your performance.""Understood."At that moment, Anne hurried over, pulling out a face towel to wipe Jenny's face. Her face was slightly purple—probably from holding her breath for too long. After being forced underwater again and again, anyone would struggle."I… I'm fine," Jenny said.Anne stood up and glared at Melanie. "You did that on purpose, didn't you?"Melanie crossed her arms. "If that's what you think, then sure.""Then, let's go to Mr. Marshall right now and have him judge the situation. I hope you don't backtrack on your words!"Melanie's expression darkened, and she let out a cold laugh. "Look at you. Ever since you married into the Parker family, you've really changed. Enjoy your moment while it lasts, Anne—your time to cry will come some

Stanley made a call, summoning two assistant directors, Melanie, and her manager.Meanwhile, Jenny and Anne waited in the hotel hallway, ready to go in and confront Melanie if necessary.Bullying on set wasn't the biggest scandal, but it wasn't a small matter, either. Stanley's stance was clear—he wouldn't cover it up or tolerate it. However, the final decision also depended on the power struggle among the higher-ups.Before stepping into the room, Melanie scoffed at Anne and Jenny. "What kind of daydream are you two having? Do you really think I'll be replaced? "Ha! Half of my scenes are already filmed. Do you have any idea how much money the production would lose if they replaced me? And do you think I got into this cast without backing from investors?"Jenny snapped, "You bully people, and you're actually proud of it?""Of course I am. And I'll keep bullying the two of you!" Melanie's eyes narrowed."Once we're inside, if Stanley so much as says a single bad word about me, I

"What do you want for dinner?""I want braised pork…""It's a bit noisy here. Can you say that again?""He said he wants braised pork trotters!" Amelie called out loudly."Who said I want pork trotters? Am I trying to kill myself? Stop framing me!" Leonard snapped at Amelie.Trying to hold back her laughter, Anne said, "I'll send you a meal plan later. Follow it for dinner tonight. "Also, we've scheduled a health checkup for Monday. Harvey will be back from his business trip by then, so you won't have any excuses.""I'm actually quite healthy," Leonard mumbled."Well, if all your test results come back fine, I'll treat you to something nice.""Can I have pork trotters?""Yes."Leonard's eyes lit up. "Alright. Monday it is."Amelie took the phone and smiled at Anne. "You're the only one who can handle him. Come home for dinner sometime.""Okay. By the way, Mr. Marshall called you, didn't he?""It's nothing major, not worth mentioning. Enjoy your time with your friend. The

Meeting anyone from that family would always give Anne an immediate headache. Even though Carol had asked her to wait, she still shut the gate to her yard, making her stance clear.Carol cleared her throat. "I know about you and my son."Anne frowned. "What about me and your son?""That you two have rekindled an old flame. Sophia told me.""You guys are crazy!"Just as Anne turned around to leave, Carol called out behind her, "Anne, you're married to Harvey now. You should let go of your feelings for Zachery. Even if you can't help yourself, you must control it! Zachery can be impulsive at times, but you can't afford to be."We're talking about Harvey here—if he finds out about you two, he won't let you off. The Judd family might be powerful, but even we can't afford to cross the Parker family. For the sake of both our families, you two need to keep your distance."Anne was baffled, completely at a loss of how she should react to this. They truly were one family—their logic was

Hearing that, Harvey still looked skeptical."I remember very clearly—you don't like cilantro. Every time we eat out, if the restaurant adds it, you always ask me to pick it out for you."Anne was stunned but managed to maintain a calm expression. "You must be confusing me with someone else."Harvey furrowed his brows and started thinking hard. "Could it be that it's Lilian who doesn't like cilantro? Like last time, I mixed it up—she likes taro cheesecake, and I thought it was you.""Well, Lilian and I do have pretty different tastes." Anne chuckled. She reached over, took a taco from his hands, and took a bite from the top where the cilantro was. "The seasoning is spot on. It's really good."Harvey shrugged. "I must've remembered it wrong.""Good thing it's Lilian. If it was another woman, I'd be mad," Anne teased with a playful huff.Harvey raised a brow. "You can doubt my memory, but don't ever doubt my loyalty. That's an insult to my character."Anne laughed. "That serious

When Harvey got the news, he showed up not long after.Anne threw herself into his arms, fighting back tears. "I want to go home."Harvey kissed her forehead gently. "I'll have them transferred to another hospital. They won't bother you again.""I just want to go home," she insisted."Anne…""Hubby, let's go home." She looked up at him with pleading eyes.Harvey gazed at her, both helpless and doting. "Alright. Let me talk to the doctor."While he went to speak with the doctor, Anne pulled herself together and went downstairs to check on Jenny. When she entered the room, she saw Jenny packing her things."Jenny, are you being discharged already?" she asked.Jenny stiffened slightly before turning around with an exaggerated smile. "I'm fine. There's no need to stay hospitalized. Besides, I can't stand the smell of disinfectants here.""Are you sure you're okay?" Anne asked, concerned."Of course! I have a new audition lined up.""Maybe you should rest a bit longer," Anne sug

"She ate the food I made! That was my first time cooking, and I made it especially for you!" Sophia shouted, pounding her chest. Her eyes were filled with grievance."How could you let her eat it? How could you trample on my feelings like this?"Zachery paced the hospital room, his frustration boiling over. "Fine! I admit it—I'm still in love with her! I regret marrying you!""Zachery, you bastard!""I'm a bastard? What about you? Sneaking around with Sean behind my back? You're worse than me!""I don't care! You can't treat me like this! You promised you'd only love me and be nice to me! You swore that even if there were other women around, none of them would matter to you, only me! I'm the only one you love!" Sophia sobbed uncontrollably."I… I just didn't know my true feelings back then. I didn't realize it until later, but by then, I had already married you. I've been miserable ever since. Yeah, maybe it's my punishment, but I never actually wronged you—you're the one who wro

What was the point? Things were over between them."Thanks, but please don't do things like this anymore. It makes me feel annoyed," Anne said in a calm but firm tone.Zachery's face darkened like storm clouds, clearly feeling unappreciated."How's your injury?"Anne let out a deep breath. "It's nothing serious. You don't need to concern yourself with it.""Isn't Harvey supposed to be so amazing? Yet you still got hurt. Hah! The truth is, he doesn't really care about you. If he had, he would've protected you better.""Zachery Judd!" Anne tried not to lose her temper, but he was pushing her buttons. "Who exactly are you to criticize my husband?"Zachery glared at her. "I care about you!""Go care about your own wife. Stop worrying about someone else's wife, alright?""Anne!" Zachery looked like he was punched in the gut. "How can you be so cold to me? You… You used to love me so much!"Anne was beyond exasperated. How much clearer could she be? And yet, Zachery acted like he d

Anne furrowed her brows and got up to check the door. By the time she stepped into the hallway, all she could see was the back of a man in hospital scrubs, hurrying away in a flustered manner. She pressed her lips together. Even with just a glimpse of his back, she could recognize the man.It was Zachery.Anne ended up sleeping until nightfall. When she woke up, she noticed light spilling from the bathroom and the sound of water running. Knowing Harvey was here, she stayed in bed quietly, waiting for him. After a while, he finally emerged.Seeing she was awake, he walked over with a smile and leaned down to kiss her."Your hair's still dripping!" Anne quickly dodged.Harvey pulled her into his arms and kissed her firmly before pulling out food containers from the thermal bag. "Eat first. I'll go dry my hair."There was some oatmeal, steamed veggies, and two dinner rolls. She only needed one bite to know it was his cooking."I didn't have much time today, so I whipped up someth

Julius nodded. "I've handed the bar over to Caesar for now. I'll be at the hospital with her these next few days.""She's really scared," Anne said softly."I know.""Jul, she…""I know."Julius couldn't hold it together anymore. He wiped away a tear, then turned and slammed his fist into the wall. "I hate how useless I am. If I'd been able to help her pay off that debt earlier, none of this would've happened."Anne patted him on the shoulder. He was just Jenny's ex-boyfriend. He wasn't obligated to do any of this."Don't think like that. This isn't your fault. But as her friend, she'll need us to help her through this dark time."When Anne returned to her hospital room, Liam and Lilian were already there."You didn't tell Harvey's parents, right?" Anne asked them."Nope. Uncle Harvey specifically told us not to," Liam replied.Hearing this, Anne breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't want to worry the elders or make them overthink things."Anne." Lilian walked over and hugg

At the hospital, the doctor treated Anne's wound.Harvey insisted on holding her the whole time, saying if it hurt, she should lean into his arms.Anne felt a little embarrassed. As a doctor herself, she'd always thought patients like this were a bit too dramatic. But now? Okay, fine—she kind of wanted to stay in his arms, too, so she could be pampered and comforted.Still, she gently pushed him away. This was Windbrook Hospital, and the doctor treating her was someone she knew. She couldn't embarrass herself like this in front of a colleague.Harvey stood sulking against the doorframe, watching her pitifully. Her injury turned out to be more serious than expected—she needed to be admitted. This time, she was placed in a VIP suite. Harvey wanted to book the entire floor, but she stopped him just in time."I have to handle a few things. I'll come back tonight to stay with you," Harvey said, then kissed the tip of her nose. After the chaos from last night, Anne could barely kee

Anne frantically backed away, heart pounding in terror. No one knew she was here, so no one would come to save her."God, please don't let this happen," she prayed in her mind. She could no longer stay calm as despair consumed her."No, please. I'm begging you…" Tears streamed down her face as she pleaded over and over. The bearded man started taking off his clothes, leering at her as if he was about to devour her.The cigarette guy nudged the other two men awake. "Come on. Don't miss the show.""What the hell? Why does he get to go first?""Relax. You're second.""Fine. I'll be third.""I'll go last, then. Happy now?"Anne realized she couldn't escape. Rather than be violated, she'd rather end it herself. Gritting her teeth, she flung herself toward the wall. With a sickening thud, her head hit hard, and warm blood instantly blurred her vision. The men shouted in surprise."Damn, this woman's got guts!""Hah, the boss said even if it's a corpse, we still need to get it o
