Chapter 125

Author: Vege Pancake
After hanging up, Anne turned to look at Harvey, who was somehow still calmly reading his book.

"Lilian's threatening to jump off a building."

"She won't," Harvey replied flatly.

"But what if she does?"

"She won't."

Anne smacked him on the head. "Get moving! What if something really happens?"

Under Anne's persistent urging, Harvey finally put down his book and went upstairs to change.

"I'll handle it. You stay here. It's better you don't catch a cold," he said.

"If you go alone, you'll probably tick her off enough to actually make her jump. I'll cover my face with a scarf. It's fine."

Harvey gave her a hug. "Alright, but at least let me kiss you first."

"Your niece is about to jump off a building. Could you be more serious for once?"

When they got to the rooftop of Cerulean Court Hotel, Lilian had already been up there shivering in the cold for half an hour.

She was huddled in a corner, but when she saw them arrive, she quickly stood and shuffled toward the edge, putting on

"Fine. I'll just wait for him in my room," Lilian grumbled.Still fuming, Harvey gave her a light smack on the back of the head. "Sure, keep being a drama queen!"On the way downstairs, Lilian noticed Anne wrapped up in a scarf and asked what was going on.Anne explained she had an allergic reaction to taro cheesecake. Lilian immediately pouted in frustration. "Uncle Harvey is so biased! I'm the one who loves taro cheesecake, but he won't get it for me! He only remembers you!"Harvey glanced back at her. "Oh, right. It was you who liked taro cheesecake."Anne laughed. "How do you mess up something like that?"Harvey chuckled awkwardly. "Taro is officially blacklisted now. I'm done with it."Lilian clicked her tongue and muttered, "Taro's innocent…"Back in the hotel room, Anne finally pieced together the full story.Lilian had gone to Stockmere for college, where she started dating her classmate, Stolas. They fell in love, and one thing led to another—Lilian ended up pregnan

Anne quickly pushed Harvey away, cleared her throat, and went back to comforting Lilian.Harvey flopped down on the couch, scrolled through his phone for a while, got bored, and simply closed his eyes to nap.As they waited and waited, there was still no word from Stolas.Lilian grew more and more anxious, muttering softly to herself, "He'll come… I know he will. He said he couldn't stand to see me suffer. He said he loved me…"Anne glanced outside the window. It was already dark."Let's head downstairs and grab dinner," she suggested.Lilian shook her head. "I'm not hungry. You two go ahead."But there was no way Anne was leaving her alone in the room. She shot a look at Harvey, who immediately caught on."I'll just have them bring food up."Once the food arrived, Anne and Harvey ate a little, but Lilian didn't touch a bite."I'm taking you back to the Parker residence," Harvey said after dinner.Lilian quickly hid behind Anne. "You promised three days! It's not time yet! H

Suddenly remembering Lilian, Anne sat up in a panic."Lilian's still outside!"Worried that Harvey might say something to upset Lilian further, she told him to stay in the room while she got dressed and went out.The living room was empty. After searching the entire suite, she finally found Lilian on the terrace.Feeling a little guilty, Anne tightened her coat and stepped outside, only to realize Lilian was video-calling someone."Stolas, you bastard! You really have the nerve to break up with me at a time like this? You're giving up on me and the baby, too? You coward! Fine! We're done! Don't ever let me see your face again!"Lilian ended the call and collapsed to the floor, sobbing.Anne sighed and went over to help her up. She guided the tearful girl back inside and wrapped a blanket around her."Go ahead and cry if you need to," Anne said softly.Lilian glanced at her before buying her face and letting it all out. She cried for a long time until it seemed like there were

Harvey decided not to go to the office today and gave himself a few days off for their marriage. After breakfast, Anne went upstairs to find him and asked if he'd come out with her for a walk.In return, Harvey asked for a kiss. Anne, blushing, gave him a quick peck, but he pulled her in and kissed her deeply for some time before he was satisfied."Come on. I'll take you somewhere."He took her hand, and they headed outside. They crossed the lawn and walked westward toward the location where the grass met the edge of a maple grove. There, tucked between the trees, was a merry-go-round seat like the kind found in kids' playgrounds.Anne hurried over and turned to Harvey. "Why is this here?"Harvey shook his head. "I have no idea when or who put it there."Anne sat down, looking up at him expectantly. With a soft chuckle, Harvey walked over to push her."There was one of these on a little plaza near my old house. When I was a kid, a few of us would go play there, but since the

Harvey looked confused. "Uh… A few thousand, I guess.""I left you a message in one of them.""What?""If you want to know, you'll have to search for it," Anne said, grinning mischievously.Harvey's gaze darkened. "And if I find it, what's the reward?"Anne leaned in and whispered, "Tonight, I'm all yours."Harvey immediately pulled her into a kiss. "Consider that a down payment."Then, Harvey started searching—one bookshelf at a time, checking every page of every book.Anne sat cross-legged on the cashmere rug, watching him seriously and patiently do something so silly just for her.She realized she was selfish. She wanted Harvey to belong to her completely, heart and soul, leaving no room for anyone else.As Harvey had said, there were thousands of books here, and finding the one she'd written in felt nearly impossible. The sky grew dark, yet he kept going.Anne started feeling guilty. She wanted to tell him to stop, but she was also reluctant to give up.Harvey showed no

Hailey's grave was quite far from the city, and the road leading there was rough. Even with GPS, Harvey took a wrong turn at one point. It was nearly noon by the time they finally reached the cemetery entrance at the base of the mountain. The cemetery was on a hillside, so they had to walk up on foot. The GPS only went as far as the gate, and it was clear Harvey truly didn't know where Hailey's grave was. They had no choice but to search as they went.Near the top of the hill, they finally spotted Darren, Charles, and Kathy.Anne tugged at Harvey's hand and hurried over. Just as she started apologizing for being late, Darren cut her off mid-sentence, frowning deeply."Why did you bring her here?" he snapped at Harvey, but it left Anne feeling awkward, too.Harvey's face darkened. "Darren, what's your problem? I brought my wife here. We're not doing anything shady.""Your wife? You… You're calling her your wife?"Darren was so furious that he started pacing in circles. Charles a

"You…" Darren stared at her in disbelief."I know she was Harvey's fiancée. They got into a car accident together. Harvey survived, but she… didn't.""You know?"Anne stayed quiet for a moment. Well, from Darren's reaction, she'd guessed right."Yeah.""Harvey told you?""Does it matter?""Ever since that accident, he's never mentioned Hailey again. Even when we bring her up, he behaves like he doesn't even know who she is, like she's just some stranger. Damn it, that's what pisses me off! How could he be so cold?""But Hailey's already gone. The living have to keep living."Darren stopped blocking her way. Anne placed the flower in her hand in front of the gravestone and muttered a prayer. She then glanced once more at Hailey's photo and gave a faint, bitter smile. After paying their respects, they turned around and realized Harvey was nowhere to be found. They headed down the mountain and spotted him leaning against a tree, smoking."He couldn't even offer a simple prayer

Suddenly, Harvey snapped out of it. He shook his head, glanced around, and then looked at Anne. "I… I thought there was a path over here, so I…"He took a deep breath. "What just happened to me?"Anne hugged him tightly. "Nothing… It's nothing. You're fine.""Nothing. It's nothing…" she kept repeating in her heart like she was trying to comfort herself, too.Back in the car, Harvey seemed completely back to normal.Following the villager's directions, they returned to the main road. When Anne checked the GPS again, she realized they were close to Brookstone—the town where Doreen and Connor lived. They decided to head there, partly to visit the elders and partly as a mini vacation. After last time's warm welcome, Anne made sure to call Doreen ahead of time.Doreen sounded thrilled as she told Connor, "Anne's bringing her husband to visit us!"Then, Anne heard Connor say in the background, "Go home and butcher a chicken for them tonight. We'll make chicken stew!""No way! There

Meeting anyone from that family would always give Anne an immediate headache. Even though Carol had asked her to wait, she still shut the gate to her yard, making her stance clear.Carol cleared her throat. "I know about you and my son."Anne frowned. "What about me and your son?""That you two have rekindled an old flame. Sophia told me.""You guys are crazy!"Just as Anne turned around to leave, Carol called out behind her, "Anne, you're married to Harvey now. You should let go of your feelings for Zachery. Even if you can't help yourself, you must control it! Zachery can be impulsive at times, but you can't afford to be."We're talking about Harvey here—if he finds out about you two, he won't let you off. The Judd family might be powerful, but even we can't afford to cross the Parker family. For the sake of both our families, you two need to keep your distance."Anne was baffled, completely at a loss of how she should react to this. They truly were one family—their logic was

Hearing that, Harvey still looked skeptical."I remember very clearly—you don't like cilantro. Every time we eat out, if the restaurant adds it, you always ask me to pick it out for you."Anne was stunned but managed to maintain a calm expression. "You must be confusing me with someone else."Harvey furrowed his brows and started thinking hard. "Could it be that it's Lilian who doesn't like cilantro? Like last time, I mixed it up—she likes taro cheesecake, and I thought it was you.""Well, Lilian and I do have pretty different tastes." Anne chuckled. She reached over, took a taco from his hands, and took a bite from the top where the cilantro was. "The seasoning is spot on. It's really good."Harvey shrugged. "I must've remembered it wrong.""Good thing it's Lilian. If it was another woman, I'd be mad," Anne teased with a playful huff.Harvey raised a brow. "You can doubt my memory, but don't ever doubt my loyalty. That's an insult to my character."Anne laughed. "That serious

When Harvey got the news, he showed up not long after.Anne threw herself into his arms, fighting back tears. "I want to go home."Harvey kissed her forehead gently. "I'll have them transferred to another hospital. They won't bother you again.""I just want to go home," she insisted."Anne…""Hubby, let's go home." She looked up at him with pleading eyes.Harvey gazed at her, both helpless and doting. "Alright. Let me talk to the doctor."While he went to speak with the doctor, Anne pulled herself together and went downstairs to check on Jenny. When she entered the room, she saw Jenny packing her things."Jenny, are you being discharged already?" she asked.Jenny stiffened slightly before turning around with an exaggerated smile. "I'm fine. There's no need to stay hospitalized. Besides, I can't stand the smell of disinfectants here.""Are you sure you're okay?" Anne asked, concerned."Of course! I have a new audition lined up.""Maybe you should rest a bit longer," Anne sug

"She ate the food I made! That was my first time cooking, and I made it especially for you!" Sophia shouted, pounding her chest. Her eyes were filled with grievance."How could you let her eat it? How could you trample on my feelings like this?"Zachery paced the hospital room, his frustration boiling over. "Fine! I admit it—I'm still in love with her! I regret marrying you!""Zachery, you bastard!""I'm a bastard? What about you? Sneaking around with Sean behind my back? You're worse than me!""I don't care! You can't treat me like this! You promised you'd only love me and be nice to me! You swore that even if there were other women around, none of them would matter to you, only me! I'm the only one you love!" Sophia sobbed uncontrollably."I… I just didn't know my true feelings back then. I didn't realize it until later, but by then, I had already married you. I've been miserable ever since. What was the point? Things were over between them."Thanks, but please don't do things like this anymore. It makes me feel annoyed," Anne said in a calm but firm tone.Zachery's face darkened like storm clouds, clearly feeling unappreciated."How's your injury?"Anne let out a deep breath. "It's nothing serious. You don't need to concern yourself with it.""Isn't Harvey supposed to be so amazing? Yet you still got hurt. Hah! The truth is, he doesn't really care about you. If he had, he would've protected you better.""Zachery Judd!" Anne tried not to lose her temper, but he was pushing her buttons. "Who exactly are you to criticize my husband?"Zachery glared at her. "I care about you!""Go care about your own wife. Stop worrying about someone else's wife, alright?""Anne!" Zachery looked like he was punched in the gut. "How can you be so cold to me? You… You used to love me so much!"Anne was beyond exasperated. How much clearer could she be? And yet, Zachery acted like he d

Anne furrowed her brows and got up to check the door. By the time she stepped into the hallway, all she could see was the back of a man in hospital scrubs, hurrying away in a flustered manner. She pressed her lips together. Even with just a glimpse of his back, she could recognize the man.It was Zachery.Anne ended up sleeping until nightfall. When she woke up, she noticed light spilling from the bathroom and the sound of water running. Knowing Harvey was here, she stayed in bed quietly, waiting for him. After a while, he finally emerged.Seeing she was awake, he walked over with a smile and leaned down to kiss her."Your hair's still dripping!" Anne quickly dodged.Harvey pulled her into his arms and kissed her firmly before pulling out food containers from the thermal bag. "Eat first. I'll go dry my hair."There was some oatmeal, steamed veggies, and two dinner rolls. She only needed one bite to know it was his cooking."I didn't have much time today, so I whipped up someth

Julius nodded. "I've handed the bar over to Caesar for now. I'll be at the hospital with her these next few days.""She's really scared," Anne said softly."I know.""Jul, she…""I know."Julius couldn't hold it together anymore. He wiped away a tear, then turned and slammed his fist into the wall. "I hate how useless I am. If I'd been able to help her pay off that debt earlier, none of this would've happened."Anne patted him on the shoulder. He was just Jenny's ex-boyfriend. He wasn't obligated to do any of this."Don't think like that. This isn't your fault. But as her friend, she'll need us to help her through this dark time."When Anne returned to her hospital room, Liam and Lilian were already there."You didn't tell Harvey's parents, right?" Anne asked them."Nope. Uncle Harvey specifically told us not to," Liam replied.Hearing this, Anne breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't want to worry the elders or make them overthink things."Anne." Lilian walked over and hugg

At the hospital, the doctor treated Anne's wound.Harvey insisted on holding her the whole time, saying if it hurt, she should lean into his arms.Anne felt a little embarrassed. As a doctor herself, she'd always thought patients like this were a bit too dramatic. But now? Okay, fine—she kind of wanted to stay in his arms, too, so she could be pampered and comforted.Still, she gently pushed him away. This was Windbrook Hospital, and the doctor treating her was someone she knew. She couldn't embarrass herself like this in front of a colleague.Harvey stood sulking against the doorframe, watching her pitifully. Her injury turned out to be more serious than expected—she needed to be admitted. This time, she was placed in a VIP suite. Harvey wanted to book the entire floor, but she stopped him just in time."I have to handle a few things. I'll come back tonight to stay with you," Harvey said, then kissed the tip of her nose. After the chaos from last night, Anne could barely kee

Rather than be violated, she'd rather end it herself. Gritting her teeth, she flung herself toward the wall. With a sickening thud, her head hit hard, and warm blood instantly blurred her vision. The men shouted in surprise."Damn, this woman's got guts!""Hah, the boss said even if it's a corpse, we still need to get it o
