Even after Cordy said that, silence remained in the car. John acted as if he hadn’t heard any of Cordy's words. He kept his eyes firmly on the road, not looking away.

Cordy shoved down the turbulent emotions swirling angrily inside her. As calmly as she could, she continued, "I have an important meeting early tomorrow morning, and it's already very late right now."

"I know," John replied.

Cordy waited a long time after he replied, but John didn't speak again.

She bit her lip, frustrated.

Since he wasn't going to say anything else, she leaned back in her seat and stared out the car window at the night scenery once more.

Soon, they arrived at North Garden's underground car park.

Cordy unbuckled her seat belt but remained seated. She turned to John and said, "Go ahead."

Perhaps John couldn't multitask while driving and needed to focus on the road. That was fine, because Cordy had no intentions of being careless with her life.
