CALLUM
Next Day, Monday Morning. "I got an email from the Crimson Howl pack," Nolan, my Beta, said as he stood across from me. His tone was sharp, but my mind was far away from him. I fiddled absentmindedly with the pen in my hand, leaning back into my chair my hands placed carelessly on the arm’s rest. "They said they’ve been with us for six years and want to explore other options," he continued. His voice slowly faded into a distance as my thoughts drifted to Scarlett. The conversation we had yesterday played on repeat in my mind. How can She not have a wolf. The realization of the implication hit me harder with every passing moment that I thought about it, than I expected. Scarlett, my supposed mate that I just paraded in front of the whole pack, without a wolf?. How had I missed it? Why hadn’t I sensed it sooner? Even if I’d only intended for her to serve as a figurehead Luna, I needed her to have a wolf. It wasn’t just tradition; it was survival. What would the pack think? What would they say if they found out? But I couldn’t simply discard her now. I’d gone too far into the deceit with her. I was known for making rational, critical decisions, and yet... this? This was reckless, even for me. “Callum!” Nolan’s voice cut through my thoughts, jolting me back to the present. “Are you even listening to me?” I blinked at him, finally focusing on his face. “What?” “You’ve been distracted all morning. This isn’t like you. What’s going on?” I hesitated, the words heavy on my tongue. But he was my Beta, we’ve been together for a very long time, he’s my most trusted man and I haven’t really had to keep anything from him. “She doesn’t have a wolf,” I said quietly. He frowned, his brows knitting together in confusion. “Who?” I tilted my head, giving him a pointed look. His eyes widened as the realization dawned on him. “Oh, no,” he muttered, running a hand through his hair. “Callum... tell me you didn’t. Did you mate a human? I thought you were an expert at these things, how did you not know” “She’s not human,” I snapped, my voice carrying more conviction than I felt. Truth is that I didn’t bother checking, when I saw her, I just wanted to have her. “She’s probably just... having trouble shifting” I added lowly. He stared at me in disbelief, but he didn’t argue. “So, what’s the plan?” “Contact Salem,” I ordered firmly. “Tell him to see me as soon as possible. I’ll train her myself” Nolan nodded, already pulling out his phone. “I’ll take care of it.” “Do it now,” I added, a frustrating urgency in my voice. As he turned to leave, I called after him, “And about Crimson Howl—set up a meeting with their Alpha. I’ll handle this personally.” “Got it,” Nolan said with a curt nod , just as he grabbed the door knob to leave he slowly turned to me. “I’ve retrieved her things, sent them to her and given her family a story,” he said, I nodded at him slowly. Just as he was stepping out, I heard him greet someone at the entrance. I glanced up to see my half-brother, Kael, walking in. Kael was a twin. His brother, Kian. All three of us shared the same mother but had different fathers. When my father met and mated my mother, she was already pregnant with the twins. He loved her regardless and took them in as his own. They’re both older than me by a year and eight months. Kael strode in with his usual irritating confidence. He dropped into the chair opposite mine, slightly frowning at me. “I hear you’ve finally gotten a mate,” he said, his tone heavy with something less pleasant. I raised my eyes slowly, meeting his gaze. “What is it now, Kael?” I asked, my voice curt and uninterested, I had more important things to attend to. We’d never seen eye to eye, not even as children. Kian, at least, stayed out of my way most of the time and didn’t have so much issues with me. But Kael? He was always stirring something. Maybe it was because, despite being the eldest of us three, he’d never been chosen to lead. That honor fell to me—my father’s biological first son. I wasn’t raised in Willow Brooke like the twins. My father, determined to harden me for the role of Alpha, had sent me to live with his brother outside of the Moonbound Alliance. (Moon bound Alliance is a state consisting of seven different packs, connected by their respective borders). Willow Brooke used to be the weakest and most manipulated of all the seven packs but not anymore, since I became Alpha. When I returned six years ago, Kael was the first to challenge me. He didn’t win then, but judging by the lingering resentment in his comments most times, I’m sure he hadn’t let it go. “Didn’t you think you should have introduced your mate to us before making it public?” Kael’s voice pulled me from my thoughts. “Do you not have any regard for family?” I didn’t flinch under his glare, nor did I bother responding immediately. I simply watched him. When he finished his little speech, I raised a brow and tilted my head. “That’s why you came all this way?” I asked flatly. “You could have texted.” His nostrils flared, and his fists clenched. Kael shot up from his chair, slamming his palms against the table. “This is exactly what I’m talking about!” he snapped. “You’re so damn proud. No regard for anyone!” I sighed deeply, shaking my head at his display. “Kael, it’s too early for this. Don’t you think?” He huffed, placing his hands on his hips like some frustrated parent scolding a child. I wondered, not for the first time, why he came before me. Pushing back my chair, I rose to my feet, matching his glare. “I’ll be in the main house. If you want to yell, find someone else who cares to listen.” I turned toward the door, gripping the knob, when his voice stopped me. “I need money.” I paused, my fingers tightening around the knob. Slowly, I turned back to face him. “Okay?” “It’s for a new business idea,” he added, his tone begrudging, like he didn’t like that I was questioning him, and the proceeds from our family business was his to squander. I let out a low scoff. “Alright. Bring me a solid business proposal, and I’ll consider it.” I said and with that I grabbed the door knob walked out and slammed the door shut. *** I grabbed the doorknob to Scarlet’s room and twisted it, only to find it locked. My patience thinned instantly. I shook the knob, rattling it violently. From inside, I heard the shuffle of hurried footsteps, followed by the sharp click of the lock opening. The door cracked open, and Scarlet peered at me, fear visible in her eyes. “Who gave you permission to lock this door?” My voice was cold and sharp, “I-I’m sorry,” she stammered, eyes darting to the floor. “I’m just very used to it... I won’t do it again.” Without waiting for an explanation, I pushed the door open fully and stepped inside, slamming it shut behind me with a loud thud. “Listen carefully.” My voice low but firm . “This entire arrangement hinges, The moment anyone catches on to what’s happening here—just one person—I’ll strip you of everything. Your freedom, your existence... gone. Do you understand me?” “Y-yes, sir. I understand.” She responded nodding rigorously. “Good,” I snapped. “Your belongings will arrive soon, and I’ve already taken care of your family and pack. You only need to focus on obeying me. Everything I say. No hesitation.” “Yes, sir. I’ll do everything you ask,” she whispered, her voice trembling. I stepped closer, looming over her. “I’ll train you myself. Your training starts today. We need to awaken your wolf—fast. No excuses, no failures.” Her lips quivered as she tried to respond. “Th-thank you, sir. I’ll do my best.” “You’d better,”SCARLETT. Few hours later. I glanced up at the wall clock in my room, 2:30pm, it wasn’t until four o’clock before my training starts. I had nothing to do but sit in silence and stare at nothing, I didn’t even have energy to think about anything, the more I tried to even consider where exactly my life was going, the more the thought slipped from my grasp. A small knock came on my door, I got up from my bed and rushed up to the door . I pulled the door open and peeped out, a sigh of relief escaped my mouth as soon as I saw that it wasn’t Callum. Rather, it was one of the park maid, I flashed her a small smile and opened the door wider, I looked down at the suitcase and duffel bag in her hands, it was mine. “Good Afternoon ma’am, Sir Nolan asked me to bring you this,” she said, I had no idea who sir Nolan was, but I’m grateful they helped me retrieve my things, I grabbed the extended handle on the suitcase and pulled it in. “Thank you so much,” I muttered, she bowed one last time b
SCARLETT 7:30 PM “Ow! Ow!” “Ouch!” “Ahh—ow!” Callum’s hands paused mid-motion, his sharp gaze sliding sideways to me. His brows arched, daring me to utter another sound. My protests died in my throat as I swallowed hard, lowering my gaze to the floor. “This is worse than I thought,” he muttered to himself, under his breath. I could feel his anger just beneath his words, though he kept his movements meticulous and steady. I winced again as he dabbed at the open wounds on my arms and shoulders. My body felt like one massive bruise, every muscle screaming in pain. Today's training session had pushed me beyond my limits—no, broken them. Tobias hadn’t held back, and Callum had let it happen, watching silently until the last moment, when I was certain I wouldn’t survive. And now, I had no idea why he didn’t let the maids clean my wounds and insisted on doing it himself. He already told me before, that my words could chain me to something far worse than death, maybe this was
SCARLETTNext day 12:00pm.I stole a glance at Callum, seated beside me. He had insisted on accompanying me to the clinic for this medical checkup and decided to stay through the process. I wondered why he decided to, but I guess he just wanted to be as thorough with me as possible, plus he was hiding the whole thing from almost everybody. The office was pindrop silent, the only sound in the room being the faint hum of the air conditioning. Dr. Salem had just finished examining me and had left us here in his office while he reviewed the results. All the pains from yesterday’s training had stopped, My body was recovering, but my mind wasn’t as fortunate. The conversation I’d had with Callum yesterday kept running through my mind, each lap leaving me more confused than before. I was dying to know what it is between him and my mother. The soft click of the door broke the silence, drawing my attention. Dr. Salem walked in, holding a folder. “Sorry for the delay. I had to double-chec
CALLUM 5:00pm.As soon as we stepped through the door, I barely had enough time to gather my thoughts before Nolan strode toward us. After hearing what happened, I decided to end the training immediately and give her time to come to terms with the news. I always knew Cora was greedy, but I didn’t see this type of greedy coming."Oh Thank goodness you’re here!" he muttered. I stiffened, locking eyes with him and my gaze narrowing on him. "What’s wrong? This couldn’t wait?" I muttered. I honestly didn’t want Scarlett bothering with our plans or getting involved. She lowered her head beside me and slowly stepped away. “I’ll get going now,” she muttered and began to walk away."Actually," "what I wanted to say concerns her more." Nolan said. She stopped in her tracks and slowly turned back to us. I took my eyes off her and they landed on Nolan. My jaw tightened and I slipped my hands into my pockets, “What are you talking about? Let’s go to my study," I said. But Nolan didn’t res
SCARLETTNext day.Monday Morning.A soft knock came at my door, pulling me from my thoughts. I frowned slightly, glancing at the clock on the wall. I’m pretty sure it’s one of the maids, because they wouldn’t let themselves in unless I did. I slipped on my flip-flops and walked over to the door. When I opened it, a young maid stood there, her smile radiant despite the early hour. “Good morning, ma’am!” she chirped, holding a neatly wrapped box in her hands, I could see her hands twitch slightly, probably due to its heaviness.“Good morning,” I replied, my voice soft as I returned her smile. My eyes dropped to the package she held. “Alpha Callum asked me to deliver this to you.” Her words made me pause. My brows knitted together in confusion as I carefully took the box from her hands. “Thank you,” I murmured, stepping back to close the door. Once inside, I placed the box on the bed and sat down beside it. My fingers brushed over the crisp wrapping paper before I spotted a
SCARLETT.Minutes later.I shifted uncomfortably under Callum’s firm grip around my waist, he noticed and then, his hold tightened. He pulled me closer, his jaw set ,intentionally avoiding my gaze. I sighed in frustration. Wasn’t he against me coming? What had he even come here for? Why the drama, this could have being easily avoided.“We should head back home now, right babe?” he finally said as he turned to me. I forced an awkward laugh and nodded. My gaze going back and forth between him and the headmistress, I hadn’t realized that being his Luna on contract, would involve certain moments like this and it was extremely awkward for me.“Of course, of course,” I muttered, trying to ease the discomfort in my voice. I turned to the headmistress one last time, offering a polite goodbye. But just as we were about to leave, a small, sweet voice called out behind me. “Luna Scarlett?”I stopped and turned, my gaze falling on a little girl with wide eyes and a daisy flower clutched tightly
CALLUMNext Day. 9:00am. At the office. "Kael sent me this," I said, dropping the spiral-bound document in front of Kian. He picked it up carefully, his eyes skimming over the contents. A deep sigh escaped his lips as he slowly shook his head. "I told him no when he brought this up. Why doesn’t he ever listen?" he muttered, more to himself than to me. Despite Kael being a few hours older, I had always considered Kian the eldest of the three of us. He carried an air of wisdom and balance that Kael lacked. He stayed out of my way most times, but Whenever I needed sound advice, Kian was the one I turned to. And as always, he was ready to help. "This doesn’t make any sense at all," Kian said, closing the booklet with finality and setting it back on the table. "But when I refuse now, it’ll look like I’m being rude and arrogant," I pointed out, my frustration quite evident."You need to stop saying that," Kian said firmly. "If you weren’t so firm, this pack wouldn’t be where it i
SCARLETTI sighed deeply and stepped out of my room as I headed towards the pool by the side of the Mansion. I’ve somewhat come to enjoy sitting here and staring at the water with my thoughts.I drew my phone out of my pocket, immediately after Doctor Salem gave his report, I created new socials to monitor my family. I’m still quite curious, I know for a fact that my mother and Alyssa were in on this, but what about my father. Was he really oblivious to the point of my death or did he know also, did he keep quiet and push me to my death by claiming to send me away to shadow flake to start afresh?Sometimes, I’d feel a burning sensation in my chest to storm back to my father’s house and confront them, but I know I wasn’t prepared to face any of them yet, I’d just break and fall back into pieces, I don’t even have anything to prove myself with, I don’t even have my wolf yet, they’d most probably kill me the moment I arrive.I turned to look at the entrance and I saw Kian walk in, my eye
SCARLETT “Scarlett!” I heard Callum’s voice as soon as I walked into the Packhouse and my heart unintentionally skipped a beat. I paused in my tracks as he made his way towards me, grabbed me by my shoulders lightly and began to look me over. My eyes followed his hands in confusion as he looked through my body as if checking for injuries. “Are you okay?”“Did anybody try to hurt you? Did anybody approach you today or anything?!” He asked all in one breath, I grabbed his hands almost immediately to make him stop. “Honey! I’m okay, what’s going on?!” I asked. He exhaled deeply and shook his head slowly. “Nothing, I just thought something bad had probably happened to you,” he mumbled, I slowly took my lower lips into my mouth and shook my head slowly. “I’m okay,” I said to him and he nodded slowly. “Where did you go?!” He finally asked. His question caught me off guard almost immediately like I didn’t see it coming. I raised my brows and pressed my lips against each other.“Hmm?”
CALLUM FEW MINUTES LATER “Seth, lead a portion of the warriors and go this way. Make sure you cover the entire surroundings,”“Nolan and I will lead the rest inside the building,” I ordered as soon as we arrived at the six-story abandoned building. “Yes, sir!” Seth howled, nodding firmly with a small bow. Without wasting any more time, Seth and his group moved away to cover the entire surrounding, while my group proceeded into the building. “Let’s split up so we can cover this place quickly. We mustn’t give anyone a chance to escape!” “If you find anything, even the littlest unusual thing, communicate with the rest of us! Everyone should put down the walls of their mind link! I don’t want any excuses!” I briefed them hurriedly, and the moment I was done, we all turned in different directions in the building. I moved stealthily through the dark hallways, lit up by a small torch in my hand. My senses on high alert as I advanced in my search. The scent of dust, mold, and stal
SCARLETT 10: 30pm “Woah! This is crazy!” I whisper yelled with my eyes wide open as I scrolled through my laptop. My phone was beside me on the table connected to my earbuds as I checked the file Annabeth sent to me on my laptop. “Scarlett, Crazy is an understatement!” “The whole time, the account we’ve been tracking is a fake account? It was created in Kael’s name but it wasn’t his,” she said, I exhaled deeply and shook my head slowly. “Do you think Kian did this?!” I asked reducing my voice lower than a whisper, she exhaled at the other end of the phone, I slowly turned to my phone and picked it up. “At this point Scarlett, I’m very suspicious of him,” she said. I dipped my hands into my hair and moved it backwards as I slowly leaned into the chair I was sitting on by the pool.“Is there a way we can confirm all this once and for all? And find out if he’s behind this or not and find who is actually behind this,” I said to her. “There’s only one thing we can do. We need ac
LATER THAT DAY CALLUM “I found a digital contract with your parent and Cora, it was clearly a rip off but your parents still signed it. It’s either she had something on them or they were just plainly oblivious of the whole arrangement, which I clearly doubt the former,” Nolan said to me as he walked into my office, took his seat across from me on the table and stretched out his tablet to me. “Where did you find this?!” I asked him as I gently took his tablet from him and looked through it. “Yeah, I was going to tell you, I found this safe in your father’s previous office and it contained a flashdrive, unfortunately this was the only document in the drive,” he said. I sighed and slowly reclined in my chair, “Scarlett keeps saying I should leave everything concerning Cora to her and focus on apprehending Kayden, but the truth is I think she’s starting to take on more than she can bear,” I said to him. “Well I think if we hand over all we’re able to find against Cora to her, it’ll
SCARLETT Next Day. 10:00am.A small knock came on my door, I slowly looked up at it and got up to my feet, Callum left for the office few hours ago. I adjusted my knee lenght floral dress and asked whoever was at the door to come in. The door slowly went open, Kaitlyn poked her head in a little bit before walking in fully.“Luna, I’m so sorry. I did everything to wash it but the stain just isn’t coming off,” She said. I sighed and rolled my eyes to the back of my head.“Kaitlyn, I already told you this before, forget about it, just dispose it, it’s not that big of a deal,” I said to her, she bit on her lower lips and bowed slightly. “I’m sorry, really,” she whispered.“Stop being dramatic Kaitlyn,” I said to her as I slowly picked up my bag on the bed and looked up at her.“It’s fine, I was just about to step out. Also, when I get back, I’ll like to have just meat, and make sure it’s well done,” I said to her, she nodded immediately in response. I grabbed the door knob and walked
SCARLETT Later that night …“Since I don’t have anything important doing, I’ll be visiting the orphanage often, Annabeth would join me whenever she’s chanced,” I said to Callum as I looked up to look at him through the mirror. I was seated in front of the dressing mirror applying face moisturizer.“Are you sure that’s convenient for you?!” He asked, I moved my head backwards almost immediately and I finally turned around to face him.“Convenient for me?! That’s my job! I should be doing it,”“Besides you guys are so busy looking for Kayden, I should be able to put things in order at the orphanage so this doesn’t happen again,” I said to him and he nodded slowly, turning his gaze back to the tablet he was working on. “Any progress though?!” I asked and he shook his head slowly.“No at all, just that Kayden apparently had the same pair of shoes as Kian,” he said, I slowly took my lips into my mouth and nodded slowly.“Any efforts on getting the lost footage files?!” I asked and he s
MEANWHILE TWILIGHT ZONE ALEX “Are you really going to behave like you didn’t stand there and let Scarlett beat me up?!” Alyssa said to me as soon as we walked in and she slammed the door shut heavily behind herself. I slowly turned to her, she had an irritated scowl on her face with her hand gripping her waist firmly. I rolled my eyes to the back of my head with a small sigh as I turned and walked further into the living room. “Did you just ignore me?!” She snorted angrily as she stomped towards me.“She asked you to stay back and you did?! Since when did you start listening to people much less Scarlett?!” She snorted,“Have you fallen in love with her?!” She asked, stepping even closer to me. I scoffed and shook my head at her.“I think the question should be, have you fallen in love with me?!” I queried raising my brows at her. “Our relationship is purely contractual and open, you and your mother needs me in your lives just as much as I need you both in mine, so don’t go aro
SCARLETT “Kian?!” I slowly unlocked the driver seat, pushed the door open and slowly stepped out. His eyes followed my movement and slowly landed on my face as soon as I stepped out fully and slammed the door shut. I saw the corner of his eyes twitch and his lips slowly stretched into a smirk that wiped off immediately, almost as if I was hallucinating and he didn’t smirk. “Scarlett?!” He whispered as he slowly dropped his hands, removing the gun from my face. I slowly stepped away from the car and walked towards him. “W-what a-are you doing?” I asked in a stutter, my voice barely above a whisper. His eyes slowly left my face and landed on my car.“I-I - must have made a mistake,” he muttered as he slowly returned the gun to his back pocket, he dipped his hands into his side pocket and took out a definely cut peice of paper.“Apparently, Kayden’s number plate and yours are similar, just the last two digits are different, I was so desperate to find him, I didn’t realize it wasn’t
SCARLETT Next Morning, 8:20am “Scarlett!” Myla exclaimed lowly as soon as she stepped out of the kitchen in her apartment and saw me walking inside. “You didn’t have to come here, I don’t want your mother to be suspicious at all,” she said wiping her hands with the back of her dress. “It’s fine, I’m leaving already,” “I’m sorry, I wasn’t able to listen to the meeting with Arthur yesterday, what did they talk about?” I asked. She exhaled deeply and slowly folded her hands across her chest. “Alyssa and Alex will get married still. Something about Veto power, the Alpha gets what the Alpha wants,” she said her face downcast with a small sigh. “I thought this would be the way to finally show everyone who they really are,”“But guess who turned the whole thing around, all under the disguise of being in love, what nonsense love!” She snorted as she slowly folded her hands under her burst. I reached forward and gently placed my hands in her shoulders.“It’s fine, they’d fall into your
