"I call… All in," Maxwell muttered, passing Amy a knowing glance. They were in an underground casino and Max was playing against two other men. One older and the other roughly in the same age group as him.

"Let's do it then," the younger one said and also pushed forward all his casino chips.

"Okay then, I am all in too," the older man muttered and pushed forward all his casino chips too.

The game began with the three men strategically pairing and building with the cards in their hands.

A frustrated grunt escaped the younger man's throat as Maxwell won again when the game ended. He stood up fuming and dashed out of the casino.

The older man acted more composed even praising Maxwell for his skills before leaving in surrender.

Maxwell stood up and started to gather his wins. Amy who had been sitting across of him stood up and came to help him.

"You are quite a talent I must say," a man with a British accent said as he approached the duo.

Maxwell flashed him a smile but didn't say anythin

"Wow, that wasn't even so hard," Amy muttered as she flung her tired body onto the bed. They were back in the hotel room they were staying at, which was just a single room because of their cover. Amy and Maxwell were on an underground mission together and their cover was that they were a couple having a vacation in Scotland."It was almost too easy but whatever I am in and that is what matters," Maxwell said as he sat on the bed and started to take off his shoes. His body stiffened as suddenly he felt Amy's hands running over his body from behind. A sigh escaped his lips as he reached out and brushed her hands away. He stood up and faced her."Hmmm. So there is finally someone special, huh?" Amy said and laid down back on the bed. Her eyes didn't leave his though."Is she someone I know?" she asked, there was a tinge of hurt in her voice. He sighed."I am sorry Amy, I really am. But then you and I were only two people who screwed each other whenever we needed to," he said and she chuc

  • A LIFETIME TOGETHER   HIS PROPOSAL

It was 4am. The buzzing of her phone was what woke her up. First she turned on her bed-side lamp, and then she stretched her hand towards her bed-side table and picked up the phone. She checked the phone and saw that someone had sent her a text message, and then it slowly registered that it was Maxwell and she sat up. Maxwell had sent her a simple text that read: "I miss you."A smile crept up her lips as she proceeded to reply his text. "I miss you too," she typed, and then sent it to him. She waited until it showed delivered, and then read. Ten minutes later, he still had not replied. Impatient, Shirley started to dial his number but his line was unreachable. A frustrated groan escaped her throat as she fell back on her bed.******"Max, there is something you should see," Amy started. It was noon and the duo had just ordered in lunch in the hotel they were staying at. They were done with the job they came to Scotland to do and were preparing to leave any moment."What is it?" Ma

  • A LIFETIME TOGETHER   UNFORGIVING

"Shirley! Shirley wait!" Max ran after her and caught up with her just as she was about to start going up the stairs. She turned. "I don't want to get married to you Max, not like this, not if it is my father pulling the strings for his own goddam selfish reasons!" she paused to suck in a deep breath. "God I thought you were different but you are just like every f**king man I have met!" she screamed, and then turned to continue her journey up the stairs. Maxwell just watched her leaving as his heart sank within him. As soon as she reached her room, she broke into tears. For the first time in her life she had been happy, really happy but her father just had to get involved and ruin it for her. Maxwell walked up the stairs. He paused at her door, listening to her silent sobs. A sigh escaped his lips as he moved and went to his room. He got to his bed and sank on it, and then he reached for his phone and called Mr. Thomas. "Tell me the truth, you know I trust you like I would tru

Shirley was gathering her things together when her secretary stepped in to inform her that Maxwell was there to pick her up."Tell him I will be out in a few seconds," she told Sara who nodded, and then left her office.Shirley moved to the restroom in her office to check herself, afterwards she touched her make-up, wore her perfume again, and then stepped out of the restroom. Grabbing her bag, she left her office."You are so beautiful love," Maxwell cooed as soon as she stepped out of the office. He had been waiting for her at the door."You are not looking bad yourself," Shirley told Max. He was putting on a quite expensive tuxedo, which if Shirley was thinking right, was the limited edition an international brand just released. There were only 100 pieces in the whole world. Her father had one piece so she recognized it.Slipping her hand into his arm which he had offered her, they started to go down the hall, heading for the elevator.Maxwell led Shirley to the front of the compan

  • A LIFETIME TOGETHER   HARD TRUTH

Maxwell could hear Shirley tossing and turning about on her bed. Guilt washed over him as he listened from the his room which was across hers. Shirley had been right, it was her father that had put him up to propose to her but he hadn't used anything against him like she had thought, not exactly. He had only revealed something about her to him and proposing to her had been the only way he could think of to protect her. Drawing a sharp breath, Shirley got out of bed and made her way out of the room. She took light steps to the kitchen and moved straight to the refrigerator. She took out a cup of ice cream from it, settled down on a chair in the kitchen and started to eat it as a million thoughts played in her head. "Can't sleep?" his voice made her jump, and then turn towards him. "You startled me!" she complained, putting her spoon on the table and standing up. "I am sorry, I didn't mean to," he said. She didn't say anything but look at him, and then she averted her gaze from him

  • A LIFETIME TOGETHER   CONFRONTATION

A soft knock on Shirley's door made her jerk up. She sniffed, trying to push back the tears gathering in her eyes, and then she grabbed a tissue to wipe the tears off her face but it was already too late, her makeup was already ruined. Monique stepped in with a tray containing a glass of juice. She took one look at Shirley's face and gasped, placing the tray on the dressing table and moving to her. "Are you okay? What happened to your makeup?" she asked even though the redness of Shirley's eyes told it all. Without a word, Shirley started for the door, she walked down the passageway and down the stairs, heading straight for the sitting room where her father and Max were sitting. The confused Monique followed her. Max raised his head the moment Shirley entered the sitting room. From the way her heart was beating so fast, he could tell that something was wrong. And then there was the redness of her eyes and the traces of tears on her face. More so, her make-up was ruined. "Is it tru

  • A LIFETIME TOGETHER   THE ACCIDENT

The tears kept flooding Shirley's eyes as she drove, making her vision of the road blurry. She was driving beyond the speed limit and it was even a surprise that the police had not pulled her car over yet. She was driving through a one-way highway. From her rearview mirror, she could see Max's motorcycle following closely behind her. It was so annoying that he wouldn't just leave her the hell alone. She was angry, hurt, betrayed and now questioned what her and Max seemed to share. What if that was a lie to? Shirley couldn't help but feel that everything in her life had been a lie. With the intention of losing Max, she made a quick turn at a bend and found herself in a remote road. A smirk curved her lips as she saw Max drive past her. It would at least take him a while to turn his bike around and find her. That would give her enough time to hide from him. Suddenly, she saw a figure in the middle of the road from a distance. She immediately hit the brakes of her car but it was too

  • A LIFETIME TOGETHER   HER TRANSITION

After taking a warm bath, Shirley moved to the mirror in the bathroom and just stared at her reflection. She had noticed as she drove from the accident site that her sense seemed to be heightened, especially her sense of hearing but she had just dismissed it as her nerves at work. From loud sounds to even the slightest sounds, she could hear them all. The honking of cars from miles away. Maxwell's villa was actually in a secluded place. The only residential building in the whole of that place. They were surrounded by woods from all four corners. She could hear the hooting of the night birds in the woods. The rustle of leaves as the cool night's breeze blew past the trees. Most of all she could hear Maxwell's heartbeat. It was steady but jumped at intervals like he was troubled. Drawing a sharp breath, Shirley closed and opened her eyes, and then froze. Her fingers moved to touch the corners of her eyes, which were now a glowing blue. "Ahhhhhh!" A scream escaped her lips and Maxwell

Lucas Blakes seemed taken aback by Shirley's question so he didn't answer immediately. However, his expression turned sour as he too dropped his cutleries and leaned back on his chair, searching Shirley's eyes. "You were intimately involved with Max, so shouldn't you know? Didn't he tell you how he was sent by the government to spy on me and stop me from uncovering the truth about your mother's death? Did he not?" There was a certain heaviness with which Mr. Blakes spoke. Judging from how her father was speaking, Shirley could tell that he was expecting her to be surprised and even shocked by his sudden revelation about Max being a spy. So she feigned the reaction he was expecting. She knew her father well enough to know that he wasn't accusing her with his choice of words, he was simply revealing something to her. "Max was a spy sent by the government?" she asked, even lowering her voice so it was almost a whisper and pulling off a quite appalled expression on her face. He nodded

The smile Shirley wore proudly on her face was beginning to make her cheekbones hurt, still she kept the smile on her face as she kept posing for the camera. She was having a photo shoot session, modelling for a make-up brand of which she wasn't just a model but their spokesperson. The name of the makeup brand was, Glitters. "Let's take five," the director said to Shirley who nodded before moving away from the stage. Monique met her halfway, offering her a bottle of water, with the cap already off the bottle. "Thanks," she muttered to Monique and took a quick drink from the bottle before returning it to Monique who accepted it with a slight bow. Shirley moved her hands to massage her face, especially her cheekbones. "Get the last set of lipsticks, we are shooting that in 2," the director's voice rang out. Shirley knew that was her cue to go to the make-up artist so they could start trying the different shades of the last set of lipsticks on her, and then start shooting her, wearing

  • A LIFETIME TOGETHER   DRUNK SHIRLEY

It was quiet in the car as Amelia drove down the road until Shirley caught sight of a bar by the side of the road. "Pull the car over Amelia. Let's go there," she said to Amelia, pointing at the bar. Amelia sighed softly but she pulled the car over. She could use a drink herself. "I am getting drunk tonight," Shirley declared as she started to take off her seatbelt. "Wear this," Amelia said to Shirley, shoving a pair of sunglasses into her hands. "You are Shirley Blakes. There is nothing much this could do but it's better than nothing, wear it," Amelia urged. Shirley nodded slowly, and then put the sunglasses on. The two girls soon got out of the car, and then started for the bar. "I will have a shot of vodka please," Shirley said to the barman, a young handsome man, as she took a seat on one of the long stools by the bar counter. Amelia sat on another stool right next to her. The barman got started on Shirley's order, when he gave her the shot she gulped it all in one go. "

  • A LIFETIME TOGETHER   TOO LATE

Running on all fours, that is with both her hands and legs touching the ground, Shirley continued down the woods. She had used the route through the woods to the hospital as she couldn't quite run on all fours on the main roads. Not if she didn't want to cause a frenzy, she hadn't lost her rationality quite to that point. Amelia had tested Shirley's super speed during a few of their training session, how far she could go. Shirley could go faster than a speeding car. That was why she didn't bother to use a car. The thought that Max could already be on his way to kill her friends fueled her speed as she ran in the woods. Her eyes were a glowing blue, the fangs had grown out of her mouth, her claws were out too, her ears were a few inches longer... Shirley continued to race until she neared the hospital. Taking deep breaths in succession, Shirley stood on her two feet, and then started to dust off the mix of sand and grasses from her body and clothes. Her eye colour and ear size had retu

  • A LIFETIME TOGETHER   THE CONNECTION

"I don't understand, how can he not be human? And how the hell can you even tell?" Shirley asked. "I am a witch Shirley and witches can feel energy. Humans, werewolves, witches, every kind existing has energy unique to its kind," Amelia explained. "So is umm, Alexander a witch because he can't be a werewolf, if he was then his sister would be too and she would have most probably already healed from that bullet wound but she clearly hasn't, or is she a born wolf that hasn't turned yet, oh my God! Is that it?" Shirley blabbered, her gaze on Amelia intent. "Woah slow down Nation's Fairy, I did say he is something, didn't I? If he was a werewolf or a witch, I could have just said it point-blankly," Amelia pointed out. That's right, thought Shirley. "So what is he? Wait are there other kinds aside witches, werewolves and humans?" Shirley was astounded at the possibility. "Well, remember the time I mentioned gods existed?" Amelia asked and Shirley's eyes widened. "No way! Alex is a god

  • A LIFETIME TOGETHER   HE IS SOMETHING

The day went by very quickly, after Shirley's examinations for the day, she stopped by at the hospital to check on Alicia. There was a crowd of reporters and the paparazzi at the entrance of the hospital when Amelia and Shirley arrived. When Shirley and Amelia stepped out of the car they had driven to the hospital, the reporters and paparazzi swarmed around them. "Shirley Blakes, are you here to visit Alicia Gilbert?" "Are you two close friends?" "What can you tell us about the shooting?" "Do you know anyone who could have targeted Alicia Gilbert?" They bombarded Shirley with countless questions, flashing their cameras and microphones on her face. The escorts that always followed Shirley around, led by Amelia, swung into action helping Shirley easily weave her way into the hospital with a natural smile, while they kept the reporters back. ****** "How is she doing?" Shirley asked as she moved closer to Alicia's bed, her eyes watering up on seeing the tubes and machines attached

  • A LIFETIME TOGETHER   SPILLED BEANS

It was soon dawn and Shirley hurriedly prepared for school. Her first semester examinations started today and even though her life had taken a huge drastic turn in the past few weeks, Shirley was confident that she would do very well in the exams and this was because, not only had Shirley been studying hard prior to the examination period, she was plenty experienced in her field of study. She had been working in her father's company since she could remember anyway. He had taught her everything about the business sector that he knew. After the first semester examinations which was going to last for a week, there would be a two weeks break, and then after the break, the rest of the academic year would be spent doing her internship at her father's company. That was the arrangement. As Shirley stood in front of her dressing mirror, she heaved in a deep breath, closing her eyes. When she opened her eyes, the colour had changed from chocolate brown to a glowing blue. She smiled, and then

  • A LIFETIME TOGETHER   DOUBTS

Shirley was so immersed in her thoughts, Amelia noticed and that wasn't the only thing she noticed. Amelia could see some sort of turbulence playing in Shirley's chocolate eyes. "Is something wrong?" Amelia asked, taking light steps closer to Shirley and only stopping when there was just a small distance between them. Shirley's eyes blinked when Amelia spoke, and then she shook her head in negation, a little too quickly, compelling Amelia to furrow her eyebrows at her. "It's nothing," Shirley spoke in a tone so low, Amelia almost didn't hear her, and then she added, "We should go." "What happened to wanting to do everything within your power to help your friend?" Amelia asked with a raised eyebrow. She could tell that there was something Shirley wasn't telling her and she didn't like it. "I am helping her. At least we now have additional information about this person who shot my friend. The person had been in some other country until yesterday evening. And in that country, it had

  • A LIFETIME TOGETHER   HIS SCENT?

The cloud was still dark as the sun was yet to rise. Strong winds were blowing, compelling Shirley's hair to dance to its rhythm. Occasionally, a few strands of her hair would move to cover her face and she would have to hurriedly tuck them in behind both her ears. It was a futile move because it soon moved to cover her face again when the wind blew past her again, making her repeat the process of trying to tuck strands of her hair behind her ears. Shirley shuddered momentarily from the coolness of the early morning breeze that suddenly washed through her, and then she gripped both ends of her coat and zipped it all the way up. It had only been zipped halfway before. Her hair was all over her face again compelling a frustrated grunt out of her mouth, however, she did nothing about it anymore. "Picked up anything yet?" Amelia's voice sounded behind Shirley and the next thing Shirley knew the girl had moved to gather her hair in her hands, and then use a hair band she had fetched from
