If there was one thing Vince hated, it was being deceived, used, devalued. He felt himself going through these three stages, with that woman with honey hair and eyes like the sea.
‘That hot bitch had the nerve to make me look like a fool!’, he thought, angrily, as he punched the table. Yes, she was hot as hell, and he wasn't about to let her get out of that situation without him getting something out of it.
Never, since he became a man and started going out with girls, had he been treated like that, like a simple... He didn't even have an adjective for that! A mere means to reach an ex-boyfriend who certainly couldn’t even compare to him!
‘So humiliating…’, he closed his eyes as he thought about it.
A knock on the door and Gambini entered.
“Ah, Mr. Bonaccorso ... Is there a problem?” Gambini asked, rubbing his hands nervously. He saw when Lina almost ran out of the V.I.P. room and, as she passed by him, she said absolutely nothing other than that she would not attend the special room that night.
“Your employee is the problem,” Vince replied.
“W-What did she do?” the bar owner asked, uncertainly. Lina was an excellent employee. All customers had nothing but praise for her. The man in front of him, as far as Gambini knew, was considered difficult to deal with.
“She doesn't meet the requirements of a good waitress. Sassy, arrogant, insolent. If this is the type of employee you assign to the special wing, Gambini, I'm sorry to say, but your business will end up going bankrupt,” Vince looked firmly at the man. “I can make sure it happens.”
Gambini understood the message very well: fire this woman or I will sink your business.
“I'm sorry, Mr. Bonaccorso! I'll talk to her for sure. Lina is an excellent employee, normally. Maybe she had a bad day, I don't know!”
“With certain people, there’s no point in talking. Either you get rid of them, or they get rid of you, Gambini. And I don't think you'd want anyone to get rid of you, do you now?”
Vince looked at him seriously, deeply. He owned many restaurants and bars in New York. When he wasn't the owner of the business itself, he was the owner of the buildings. Gambini, for example, paid a hefty rent to Vince, who always helped both him and anyone who rented a property from him, to have clients. Gambini was an associate. But if Vincenzo Bonaccorso decided that the business wasn't worth it, it would be the end for the poor shop owner.
“I'll take care of it. The reputation of a place is what matters.”
“I couldn’t agree more. And bad employees should not be forgiven but replaced. Before that bad apple ruins the whole barrel.”
Gambini nodded and with a dismissive wave of Vince's hand, he left.
Regretfully, Gambini went after Lina. He really liked her, her work, but a battle against the owner of New York was something he couldn't buy.
She was leaving the restroom when he entered the staff section.
“Lina, I have to talk to you.”
From his expression, she already knew what it would be.
“No need, Gambini. I'll get my things.”
“Look, I'm sorry, okay? But I can't pick a fight with him.” Gambini apologized, feeling really bad about it. He knew that Lina paid for her college education with that money, paid her rent, supported herself!
In fact, Bonaccorso, in Gambini 's eyes, was being benevolent, as he had the power to really get rid of Lina. Not even the police could do anything against him in that city.
“No worries. All good. I understand your position.” And she really did. Lina had already realized that that man in the V.I.P. room was not someone a sane person would want to have trouble with. Only she herself could have been crazy enough to challenge that kind of person.
“Come by tomorrow to pick up your payment.”
“I will,” she said with a weak smile. “And thank you for everything, Gambini. Oh, if you have some other place to recommend me, I would appreciate it.”
“I'll see if I have someone who can employ you,” Gambini said, knowing that it would have to be all behind the scenes, after all, if Bonaccorso found out, he would not only end up with Lina, but with Gambini as well. There were no second chances with that man.
Lina waved goodbye and walked out the back door, breathing deeply. What the hell was she going to do? That weekend job paid well enough for her to support herself and her education. Was she happy by listening to stupid jokes sometimes? No, but so far, she had managed to deal with it well, being kind, but making it clear that she did not provide any service other than waiting tables. The tips were wonderful.
She started walking back home. Having just been fired meant that she couldn't spend a single penny on frivolities and expendable things like public transportation when she could walk a little. She didn't live too far away, so no harm would be done.
When Lina was turning around the corner next to her building, a car stopped almost next to her. At first, Lina didn't pay attention to that, but when the door opened, before anyone could get out, she knew it was the car that had approached her when leaving college. She swallowed hard and tried to walk faster, however, one of the security guards' arms wrapped around her waist and a hand covered her mouth. She was forced into the car.
Inside, as she expected, that man. She didn't even know his name.
“To hell with you! Don't you think I've already paid it with interest? I lost my job because of you!” She was fuming.
“Do you know who I am?” Vince asked. She was too disrespectful to understand who she was dealing with.
“No, and I don't have the slightest interest in finding out. Now, open the damn door so I can get out!”
Vince couldn't take it. He hated hysterical women. Normally, he would stop the car and make the bitch get out, however, he wanted that minx right there, next to him. He pulled her by the waist and pressed their lips together. She struggled for a few seconds, trying to push him away from her, but little by little, she gave in.
Vince pulled her on top of him, making her ‘straddle’ him, with one leg on either side of him.
‘Lina, stop being so weak!’, she scolded herself, but when he raised his hips and she felt his volume, in that moment of tension, Lina moaned and lost her train of thought.
She might be a virgin, but she wasn't ignorant. Lina hadn't slept with anyone, but that didn't mean she didn't watch or read naughty things. She wasn't against having sex, she just didn't have the courage to give in to just anyone.
Vince's hands were everywhere. He moved his mouth down her neck, going to the neckline of her blouse. The man looked at her with those dark eyes, bright with desire, and lifted Lina's blouse, pulling it over the woman's head. She was wearing a black half-cup bra, with small lace around the edges. Her full breasts were very round. Vince wanted to remove the lingerie and see if those juicy round breasts would fill his big hands. He was sure they would.
Vince leaned down and placed kisses on the edge of the skin along her bra, then gave a light bite. Lina reacted better than he expected, with a pleasant moan and rocking her hips. He smiled, naughtily. That woman was pure fire!
He reached down and started to unzip her jeans, but Lina put her hand over his.
“No,” she said, weakly. Even though she was dizzy with desire, she hadn't lost consciousness.
“You want it,” he replied, his voice full of lust.
“Not yet. I’ve never… I don't know you.”
His eyes widened as the realization of those words hit him hard. She... Was she a virgin? Sure, he had already realized that she wasn't like any other, but a virgin? He didn't fuck virgins! Virgins were synonymous with problems. They always wanted more, as compensation for giving something so precious to a man. And being who he was, even if they knew marriage wasn't an option, they wanted to be his mistress, at least.
Even though it was painful, Vince moved her to the side, letting the beautiful young woman sit in the car seat.
He ran a hand through his hair and rested his elbows on his knees.
“Why didn't you mention that before?” he asked.
“What?” She asked, confused, looking around, behind her blouse.
“What do you mean ‘what’? That you are a virgin! Cazzo [1]!” he said it loud and harshly. “I don't go around fucking virgins. Even if you are not Italian, or not from my ‘environment’, I prefer to avoid it.”
“I had no reason to tell you anything. I wanted a kiss, not to sleep with you!” She replied, offended by his tone, as if she had tried to deceive him in some way. “You're acting as if I had, I don't know, asked you to marry me!”
“You almost did!” he shouted. “A man won’t devirginize a woman like that to leave her. At least I don't do that.” He said, sincerely.
Vincenzo was Italian, he was part of the mafia, and he preferred to follow certain precepts, applying them even with women who were not from the organization.
“Hmm ... So, you still have some honor,” she commented, but he felt the slight acidity in her tone.
“What you mean? I have a lot of honor! I'm Vincenzo Bonaccorso!” She raised her eyebrow, thinking that at least she already knew the name of the owner of the best kiss of her life!
“I don't think I need to say it, but I will anyway: your name means absolutely nothing to me. Sorry.” She said and shrugged, making it clear that she apologized as a mockery.
“Of course... I already imagined it. Or you wouldn't even have approached me in the first place, right?” He asked, with a slightly mocking tone. “Unless you were really looking for trouble.”
“Oh, please! Ok, Mr. ‘I’m-so-important’! What are you trying to tell me, huh? That’ you’re a mafia King?” Lina asked as a joke. She had already noticed that he looked Italian and ‘evil’. But when he didn't respond and the car fell silent, she looked at Vincenzo. “Are you... from the Mafia?”
The expression on her face indicated that she didn't want it to be true. This gave Vince even more pleasure in confirming her biggest fear at that moment.
“What do you think, principessa [2]?” He asked, reaching back and pulling a pistol from the waistband of his pants.
“Crap!” Lina backed away from him, until her back hit the car door.
“Relax, I'm not going to use this on you. If you are interested in entering into a new agreement, I will use something else with you. Something very pleasant,” he smiled sideways as he looked at her. “This was just to show you that I'm not lying about who I am.”
Vince opened his arms and rested them on the car seat, with his legs wider apart. Lina understood what he wanted to use on her. And even if he was cheeky, she wouldn't be a hypocrite to say that she didn't want him to do everything he seemed to have in mind to her. But giving in to a man, without being married, was a danger. Her mother was a good example of that.
“You said you don't get involved with virgins.” She reminded him.
“I said I don't go around fucking virgins. There is a difference.”
[1]“Damn!”, in Italian.
[2]“Princess”, in Italian.
“What deal do you want to make?” Lina gathered her courage and asked. That man wouldn't give up easily, so it was better to hear what he wanted at once. “You said yourself that you weren't interested in agreements with me, since I was not capable of fulfilling what I promised you, in the club, while I was drunk.” She insisted on emphasizing the situation in which she had promised him something before. “Well, that was before. Now, I want to propose something else.” “What if I don't accept it? Can I leave without any major problems?” she asked. “Yes, I will not interfere in your life. You won't interfere with mine,” he said and smiled. “You've already lost your job, let's say I can turn a blind eye, now. Besides, I won't force a woman to be mine. Even if I see the fire beneath your skin, baby.”Lina clicked her tongue, her cheeks flushed. “Right. And what is your proposal?” She tried not to sound impatient. Vince noticed it and didn't care. “You
“Very well,” he replied and nodded briefly. “I'll give you a week. You have one week to give me an answer.” Vince reached into his jacket and pulled out a card and handed it to her. “Thank you,” Lina responded automatically as she held up the card. “When you decide, you call me at this number. Only when you decide you want it. If your answer is no, you don't need to call me at all.” “Deal. Can I get out, now?” she asked, nervously. The car was already parked in front of her building. Lina smiled, even more anxiously. If he knew her address, he had really wanted to know about her life.“Fucking shit!’ she cursed her stupid idea and also, Noah, for making her act like an imbecile. ‘No, it’s my fault. He didn’t force me to be stupid.’ “Sure. But...” She stopped with her hand on the car handle. “But…?” “Are you sure you don't want to make out first? Without commitment. Maybe this will be th
Gambini was already waiting for Lina, with a beautiful smile on his face. When Vincenzo gave the order to rehire the girl, he was happy. She needed and deserved that job. “How good it is to have you back, Lina!” “Thank you, Gambini! That ridiculous guy let you take me back, didn't he?” she asked and Gambini looked around. “Shh! If it reaches his ears...” “Tell me... Is he really from the mafia?” Gambini took a deep breath. “He is, Lina.” “And you let me serve that man?” she asked in astonishment, looking like she felt completely betrayed. “And what did you expect me to do? He's the biggest guy here. Owner of almost all of New York. I'm just an Italian trying to survive in these lands, Lina!” She sighed. “Next time, will you let me know when I'm going to deal with a client like that before I start to serve, please?” “So you can get a better hold of your tongue?” he asked,
*TWENTY YEARS BEFORE*“Come on, Vince. Time to go to bed!” Gioconda said and knocked on the boy's door, who was playing video games. “Ah, mom... just a little bit more!” “No, sir! It's time for you to go to bed. Tomorrow, you have class, young man,” she said and smiled. Vincenzo’s eyes were the same as his mother’s. That was the only physical trait you could see of her on the boy. The face and structure were completely his father's. “Ah, okay...” the eight-year-old boy said, getting up from the bed and going to turn off the game. He went to his mother, kissed her cheek and walked towards the bed. “No, no... Brush your teeth first. I know you haven't brushed your teeth yet.” He grumbled but did as she told him. Gioconda left the boy's bedroom and closed the door behind her. Vincenzo had tap running, as he usually did. Gioconda always said he should turn it off, to save water. And, because of this usual behavior, he d
“Oh, I can't believe we're finally going to a party!” Maddie said, excitedly, while putting on her earrings. “Honestly, I'd rather not go. Noah and that girl will be there.” “Are you still into him?” Maddie asked, stunned and rolled her eyes. “No. But it's unpleasant. Every time this girl passes me; she gives me dirty looks. I don’t like this. I don't understand why she can't just pretend I don't exist.” “Because you're much better than her and, unless she's really stupid, she knows that Noah only left you because he's fucking ambitious.” “Thank you,” Lina gave an awkward smile. “But still...” “Oh, come on! I'm not going alone. I pretty much only know you and Emma, but she'll be busy with other people.” “I don't even know how you ended up being invited...” Lina commented. Emma Moore was super popular, despite not being an arrogant person. “She's in the theater group. She liked me and, as she knows
“Olivia Campbell and Noah Perry. That's what happened!” Lina replied, irritated. “Campbell, like in, the lawyer?” Vince asked. “Exactly!” Lina replied. Vince smiled mysteriously, but Lina didn't see it. She was staring straight ahead, too absorbed in her own irritation. “Wait a minute... Who are you?” Maddie asked. Vince was covered in shadow. “He's my boyfriend. Vince.” Vince looked at Lina with interest. By saying that, she agreed to be his. Agreed to the deal he had proposed. Maddie knew that Lina didn't have a boyfriend, so she remembered that the guy at the club was a mobster and had offered to pose as her ‘man’. “Ah... I see,” Maddie said, weakly. The car stopped and they were in front of the building where they lived. “Maddie, do you mind going ahead? I need to talk to Vince, very quickly.” Lina asked and her friend just nodded, getting out of the car. “I'll accompany you,” the m
“Cool. Sweet dreams!” Lina finished drinking water, washed the glasses and went to her room. When she took off her dress, she imagined it was Vince doing that. ‘Is he really not going to try anything else?’, she thought and bit her lip. She was already past twenty… What harm would that do? At least he didn't lie to her, like Noah. And he was the most handsome man she had ever met in her life. Maybe it would be worth it. Lina had a sour expression when she remembered Noah. “Well, I'm not going to let people talk about me at college. I know this revenge thing is kind of ridiculous, but... Vince said this wasn't romantic involvement, so we're two adults doing adult things. Responsibly,” she said to herself, as she got into the bathtub. She shaved completely, despite being tired, then applied moisturizer to her body and exfoliated her skin. She wanted to be perfect. The next day, she would perfume herself and go to meet the man who would
His breathing in her ear made her dizzy. Lina just nodded. Vince kissed her neck and waited for her to open the door. Lina did so, still bewildered, and he winked before leaving. “If you're going to give it to him, don't forget to use a condom,” Maddie's voice echoed from the apartment hallway, waking Lina up. “Maddie!” Lina said, embarrassed. “Huh... You guys are so fiery. I know you will give it to him, Lina. It just won’t happen if something come up, I know it.” “My goodness, shut up!” Lina sat at the table, mortified, covering her face with her hands. “Oh, don't act coy. I'm sure you've already given him liberties. You were alone in the car last night, with him, and he looked like a horny man when he walked through that door a few seconds ago.” “Maddie!” “I'm not judging,” she raised her hands and sat down on the chair. “In fact, I think you really have to enjoy it. I just want you to be careful. He’s
“Damin it!” he screamed and kicked the bed. “But if she's with her father...”‘She’s not there and you know it!’, the voice in his head complained. ‘Stop being a child and go after her! Before there's no turning back. She will die!’Eraldo went to a convenience store to buy some cheap snacks. Something that obviously didn't exist in Vincenzo's house. He wanted a very specific peanut. Upon leaving, he was completely relaxed. A man stuck a knife in his stomach, pulled out his shopping bag and ran away. Eraldo pulled out his gun and shot the man who wanted to rob him. He went to his car, but the stab was lethal, and he didn't get to the mansion. The problem this would cause was that no one was yet aware that Lina was down there. However, she was not the only prisoner. Two days passed and no one knew anything about her. Vince didn't ask about Lina, but waited for someone, or rather Nico, to give him updates on her whereabouts. When he got absolutely nothing from anyone, Vince decided to l
“I hate. I hate her!” what he meant was that he hated loving her, he hated the fact that she shared Scarpinato's blood. But not her. He would never hate her. How could he ever hate her?“Ok,” Nico said and didn't insist any further. “Then, Vincenzo, don't complain about your life and the consequences of your immature act. Also, act like a fucking Capo if you want to be respected like one!”With that, Nico closed the door and left. He would look for Lina himself. But first, he needed to take care of his wound. He was already dizzy.Nico went to the doctor and let the man take care of his shoulder. So, he called Maddie. She answered the phone quickly.“Did you find Lina?” she asked, hopefully.“Not yet. But I will.”“Thank you, Nico. And... Your shoulder?”Nico smiled. She did worry about him!“I've already been to the doctor. How are you?”“Good. Nervous. Concerned. But fine.”“Okay, babe. I'll find Lina and talk to you. Anything, call me, okay?”“Okay…” she said, shyly.Nico wanted to
Vince was far away in thought. He was reliving the death of his parents, everything that happened and he didn't hear what Eraldo said or when Lina shouted for him to do something.“Vince!” she screamed, but he continued with glassy eyes, looking down. Eraldo dragged her away. When Vince came back to reality, it was with Maddie poking his arm.“Where is Lina?” the girl asked, shyly.“Ah... I think she went home,” he replied, looking around and not seeing any sign of Lina. But that was what she said she would do. And he said this to Maddie, still a bit apathetic.“Okay. Thanks for everything,” Maddie said. Until that moment, Nico still wasn't there.Maddie went home. She didn't have her bag, but she had a key inside the plant pot. When she got there, she called for Lina, but there was no response.“Lina?” she asked, with a feeling of deja vu [1].After looking around the entire apartment, she knew that her friend wasn't there and hadn't even set foot there. How could she? There was only
“What are you doing? And what about only Italian women?” she wanted to know about this, before revealing whose daughter she was.“Fuck the Council! Anyone who says anything will be fucking shot!” he growled and took a deep breath. “Guendalina Watson, will you marry me and make me the happiest man in the world?”Vince had decided to keep his distance from Lina. He didn't want to get involved with her anymore. But when she was in danger, when they took her from hiding, he thought he would lose her again. And, perhaps, forever. And the love he refused to admit he felt for her needed to be declared. He needed to tell her. He needed her.It wasn't part of the plan for him to appear there in the middle of the gunfire. He should have stayed safe while she was rescued. However, he couldn't stay away. He wanted her as his wife and, for that, he had to protect her himself. If not, what kind of man would he be?Vince saw when the car carrying Bartolomeo left, as he stayed on one of the nearby st
“Me too. And Lina... Vince was worried about you. They are looking for you.”Lina turned to Maddie.“I bet this is nothing more than his sense of honor. He does not want me. He made it very clear with loud words. I told you that,” Lina let out a sigh. “But he thinks he’s ‘the honorable one’.”“I know. And I also know that you love him.”Lina lowered her head.“I'm so stupid. He doesn't love me and he never will,” she said and looked at Maddie, her eyes full of sadness. “And it doesn't matter, you know? He himself said that they only marry Italian women. Good for him who doesn't love me.” Lina shrugged, looking down.Raffaele was listening to the conversation. It's not like he can help it. When Lina said that Bonaccorso didn't want her, he thought the man was crazy. He may have been enchanted by Maddie, but he wasn't blind. Lina was beautiful and cultured. She wasn't one of those women who are found in droves out there. Okay, she wasn't Italian. But, actually... She was, even if mixed
Raffaele had been following Maddie and Lina for weeks. He thought the chestnut was beautiful and became interested in her. And by the time he was assigned the task, Nico had already blocked Maddie's number. Every day that Raffaele followed her, he thought more and more about her, waiting for the opportunity to talk to Maddie. But he knew that wasn't possible. Raffaele traveled to Las Vegas in order to solve some problems and, when he returned, he learned that Lina had been captured and tortured. In the end, she was Bartolomeo's daughter. The last news was good, after all, it made things more possible for him to get closer to Maddie! Besides, poor Lina wouldn’t suffer anymore. He knew very well who Nicola Rizzi was. The right-hand man of Vincenzo Bonnaccorso, the man who held two positions at the same time within the mafia: Sottocapo and Consigliere. This was an extremely rare feat.“He's not old!” Maddie defended Nico.‘Yes, yes... If I'm not mistaken, he's already over thirty! For yo
“Sure as fuck I will! I don't know what the hell they're going to do with Lina, now that Maddie is there,” Vince said, nervously, feeling his hands shaking.“Weird place to bring the girls. This place is pretty fancy for a captivity,” Nico's comment was pertinent.“Well, when we break into this shit, we'll know how fancy that fucked up place is,” Nico could hear his boss's anxiety.Inside the building, Maddie was taken upstairs. She realized that the place was luxurious and that it didn't exactly look like the prison she expected to find Lina in. It looked more like a castle than a dungeon.“This way, signorina,” the handsome man said. He looked at Maddie with interest. “Tell me something, Maddie, do you have a boyfriend?”Maddie was shocked by the nerve of the guy. Was he being serious?“Ah ... No.” She replied awkwardly. “But that's none of your business now, is it?” She closed her fist next to her own body. How could that man dare to ask something like that when he had kidnapped he
That was the first time that Lina said openly and clearly that she loved Vince, apart from when declared herself to the man himself. No, she wasn't in love. She loved him.Bartolomeo's face turned red. He looked like he was going to have a stroke at any moment. Lina didn't lower her head.“You... You...” Bartolomeo stammered. “Did you let him deflower you?”Bartolomeo knew very well how things could be. He, when he was with Maryam, had the happiest moments of his life. Very intense. From what he knew about Vincenzo Bonaccorso, the man was a sex machine. Women went crazy with him. And Guendalina had been the only one to visit his house, lately. The only one to sleep with him and return the next day, and the next, and the next.“I let him do whatever he wanted with me,” she said, defiantly.Bartolomeo had not lived with his daughter but just knowing that she was his daughter and who the man she had been involved with was, he could imagine all the naughty things she had done and that was
Someone came in and placed something heavy and metallic on top of the white dresser she had seen before, next to the dark, carved wooden door. Shortly after, the door closed, and she swore she heard a ‘click’. That meant she had been locked inside.Lina was ready to sit down again, but the door opened again.Steps. The bed dipped a little at the edge. She was terrified that someone would climb into bed with her, but no. Apparently, the person sat there.“Guendalina?” a man spoke. “I know you’re not sleeping.” She wasn't sure if she knew that person, as the voice didn't seem completely strange to her.Lina thought it was better not to pretend. These people were powerful and dangerous, and she wasn't interested in taking another beating.Lina sat down and, when she looked at the visitor, she saw that he was the same man as before. The one who had pulled her hair. The one with eyes like hers.“Who are you?” she asked, almost in a whisper. “What do you still want from me?” She was tearful
