Chapter 6

Everleigh

One of his domestic workers set my luggage down in the entryway. Felix led me inside his mansion, a smile on his face. "Welcome to my home," he said with a sparkle in his eyes. "Welcome home."

I looked at him but said no words. I was lost in thoughts. The Felix that I knew from many years back was different from this man with me here. That man was a pauper, this man is a multi billionaire.

"Where are we going?" I asked him as we ascended the flight of stairs.

"You'll see," He responded, not stopping.

He pushed a door open and I strolled into a room that left my mouth agape. "Is this your bedroom?" It was too feminine to be his.

"No, queen. This is your bedroom." For some minutes I paused, savoring the awesomeness of the room with my eyes wide open. It was like something out of a fairy tale, with a large, luxurious bed in the center, draped in white satin. The walls were painted with my favourite shade of pink, and the furniture was made of mahogany. There were fresh dandelions in a vase on the dresser, and the scent of lavender filled the air.

"My favourite," I said as I inhaled deeply with my eyes shut. My eyes fluttered open and I said to him, "You remember all my favourite things."

"How could I forget any one of them when all I have done since you left me for that moron is live everyday recalling the life we shared? I want you to feel comfortable and at home."

I gazed out the window and a sense of awe washed over me. The view was breathtaking. Felix knew how much I loved natural views, so he made sure that there was a lush green lawn stretching out down below, and a beautiful garden just beyond. As far as my eyes could see, it was all breathtaking.

"Thank you," I said to him, sinking into the bed. "For everything."

"You deserve it and so much more. Please excuse me, Ever. I'll be back in a few minutes." He exited the room, leaving me to my thoughts.

I let my mind drift back to the events of the past few days. It had been a whirlwind, and I was still processing everything that had happened. One thing stood out above all the rest - the fact that I was pregnant. My eyes got teary as I recalled how badly I wanted a child.

A thought crossed my mind. Maybe Clyde never wanted a baby. Before I could dwell on the possibility, a knock on the door interrupted my train of thoughts.

"Yes?" I called out, I just wanted to be left alone.

He hesitated for a moment before slowly turning the doorknob and pushing the door open. The hinges creaked in protest as he peered into the room. I guessed right. It was Felix. "I'm sorry to bother, Ever," He said, walking towards me, hesitantly.  "I just thought that you might want to know that dinner is ready. I know you must be very hungry."

"I have no appetite." I grumbled. All I wanted to do, was take a warm shower and rest.

"I made your favorite - chicken parmesan with a side of roasted vegetables," Felix added, his smile growing wider.

"You were the one who made the food?"

He gave a slow nod. I looked at him with suspicion. He was a good chef. I didn't know if money had changed that about him.

"Would you like me to bring it up to your room?"

I nodded, feeling my stomach growl at the thought of my favorite meal. "Yes, please, thank you." Once again, he was out of sight and I was alone. A few minutes later, he re-entered the room with a tray in his hands. My mouth watered as he approached my bed. The smell of chicken parmesan filled the room, and I felt a wave of nostalgia wash over me. I had always loved Felix's cooking, and this dish was no exception. "It smells amazing," I said, sitting up and getting ready to enjoy the meal.

"I'm glad you like it, it's specially made for you" he said.

A bite of the chicken made my eyes widen in delight. The flavors burst in my mouth, and I felt myself relaxed, savoring the meal. Felix sat on the bed and watched me, a soft smile on his face.

"I'm glad you're enjoying it," he said. "I made sure to put extra love into it, just for you." He said, jokingly.

"That remains my favourite recipe for every meal." I chuckled.

After three mouthfuls, I felt nauseous and couldn't put up with the food anymore. "I think I'm full," I said to him, pushing the tray away. "I'm nauseous."

"Oh, come on," Felix said, in a protest. "You haven't eaten enough yet. Alright, let me feed you."

"No, thank you."

"Oh, come on, Everleigh. I mean, it'll sell on social media."

"Huh?" I looked up at him, confused.

"A picture of me feeding you, don't you think it'd make Clyde feel bitter?"

"You're serious right now?"

"It's the perfect revenge."

"What is it about revenge? You're so bent on showing off to Clyde and the media, you make me wonder if you have ulterior motives."

Felix rolled his eyes. "I want to get back at him for being so cruel to you, that's all."

"I'll pass on the pictures, it's childish."

"Alright, I'm sorry."

"It's okay," I said to him, sinking into my bed.

 "What's going on?"

"I'm sorry?"

"You look pale."

"I'm fine."

"Maybe you are, but you look sick."

I shrugged, looking away. The smell of the food was starting to upset me. The rumble in my stomach grew louder, more insistent, until I couldn't ignore it any longer. I excused myself and dashed towards the restroom, but my lack of familiarity with the house's layout proved to be my undoing. I slipped on the slick floor and fell the ground with a thud, emptying the content of my bowels on rge floor.

Felix was behind me, his hand was on my back as he tapped me slowly. "I'm sorry. You'll be fine." My stomach protested and once again, my lips parted and I threw up. Emptying everything else inside of me.

"Do you feel better?" He asked, but I was too dizzy to give a response.

I felt strong masculine arms wrapped around me, and I leaned into it, not bothered about who owned it. "It's okay, Ever." I heard him say, before I became unconscious.
