Everleigh
My heels clicked against the hospital floor as I made my way to the exit. Felix wrapped his hand around my waist, a mischievous grin on his face.
We were headed for the hospital hall. He must have dreamt of this day for so long. And in contrast, this was my biggest fear.
But we are both happy now. I am excited to be free, and he's excited to be with me again. And get his revenge.
"This is going to be so dramatic," Felix whispered, feeling slightly nervous and excited as we got closer.
"You have always loved drama. Don't you remember six years ago?!"
"You still haven't forgiven me, Ever. You are so strange." Felix rolled his eyes.
Before I could reply, we were in the hospital hallway. Clyde stood at the far end, walking towards my ward.
A few nurses had walked past Felix and I, but they were too busy to stop and look.
Some patients who weren't in a critical condition couldn't help but stand in awe, gazing at the scene that was about to play out.
"What the fuck is going on?" Clyde's eyes were bulging out in surprise. His wife was all dressed up and fancy, and her ex held her waist.
"What does it look like?" I asked him. "Is this a cinema?" I continued, realizing how bad I got at using curse words. "Fuck you, Clyde!" I managed to say.
"I don't understand what is happening here!" Clyde exclaimed. He was about to play the good guy card.
"And you don't need to understand. years ago, I begged for your love. I had attempted to buy love.
I had done everything within my power. Right now, I'm letting you be. You deserve better and so do I."
"Babe, what are you saying?" Clyde attempted walking to where I stood, but Felix stood in his way.
"It's over between us, honey." I said to Clyde, flinging the divorce papers at him. "That's what I'm saying.
You don't want to be the bad guy, am I right? Well now, you don't have to worry about who the bad guy is."
He watched the papers flutter to the floor, dumfounded.
"Why? What did I do wrong?" Clyde was getting ready to play the victim card.
“I'm done with you, you can get married to Laura now."
For a few seconds, Clyde said nothing. He figured why all of this was happening. I had caught him in my hospital ward.
"Please sign those papers, I now own eighty percent of the wealth that you and I made together.”
"That's not fair!" I heard him blurt.
Felix smiled at him and said, “That's still better than disappearing with everything you both worked hard for, isn't it? You can take her to court if you please. But I assure you'll lose.”
Clyde said nothing more. Felix and I were already at the door when he said his last words. "Everleigh, you'll regret this."
"My only regret is marrying an ungrateful loser." I retorted, banging the door behind me.
In no long time, Felix and I were out of the hospital. Through the transparent glass door, we knew that their gazes were still on us.
Felix halted me as we were headed for his car and the entourages that were waiting for us. We stood there, his warm, strong hands holding mine.
"Ever," He said. His smile was gentle and reassuring, it felt like he was looking right into my soul.
"Yes? Why did you stop me?" I looked back, at the many eyes on us, and felt slightly embarrassed at the sight of the stares and cameras on me.
I couldn't help but notice the envious look on Clyde's face. It was almost as if he were burning with jealousy, his eyes filled with anger and resentment. But I kept my focus on Felix. Returning the cheerful smile.
“I have heard the rumors.”
"Huh?" I swallowed, still staring at him and wondering which of the many rumors about me he heard. I hoped genuinely that it wasn't about my children.
“I know you would never do something like that.” He continued, squeezing my hand slightly. “You need to heal from everything going on.
They have fixed a date for the hearing and I think it's best if you and I go back to my mansion together. I'll take care of you and make sure that you heal.
Laura would be found and whoever was behind her kidnap would be punished. I promise you!”
“Why are you doing this?” I asked him.
“Well,” he said with a light shrug. “I want to make Clyde jealous.”
“That's all?”
“Yes, I want to make him regret how he treated you.”
“Well, then I think we have succeeded in doing that.” I pointed at Clyde. “Do you see the look on his face? I'd call this a mission accomplished.”
"This isn't enough. Come with me to my mansion, Ever. We don't have to be in an actual relationship. Having you upload beautiful pictures with me is the best revenge plan on Clyde, don't you think?"
I laughed softly but said nothing. There was so much on my mind. I couldn't stop thinking about Madison who showed up hours ago, just to make threats.
Maybe going with Felix was a good idea. With Madison back in the picture, I know that my father may have heard about me.
He may also be looking for me. And I didn't want to be back home.
“What do you say, Ever?” Felix probed on for a response. “Or would you rather stay with your family?”
I never mentioned my family to anyone. Not to Felix, not to Clyde and not even to Laura who knew my body count. “I have no family,” I retorted. That was what I told everyone who asked.
The fact that I am pregnant crossed my mind. Staying with Felix would make things complicated.
“I don't know, Felix…” My eyes caught someone in the shadows and I blinked to make sure I had seen correctly.
"Laura?" I said to Felix who was also looking in the same direction.
"It seems so," He responded.
We both silently watched until we were certain of what we saw.
"They said she is missing. What is she doing next to my car?”
EverleighThe driver set out, leaving the hospital. I sat in the backseat of the car with Felix beside me and watched as he peered out of the windshield and scanned the area. He seemed unsure of where to go next. It appeared that he was hesitant to ask Felix where to take us. Felix noticed the uncertainty in his slow driving and spoke up. "Gerald, take us to my place.""Right away, sir!" The driver responded and matched the pedal. "Your house, Felix?" I turned to look at him. "I didn't consent to that.""I know, Ever. But I think it's best because...""Because you miss me?" I asked him with a frown. "Because you wish to bond with me.""No! I mean, I did miss you. But that's not the only reason I want you to come with me to my house. We spotted Laura next to this car moments ago. And somehow, she vanished into thin air. Do you think that is plain? They want to set you up, Ever. I'm so sure of it.""What does any of that have to do with your house? Let them do their worst!""I want
EverleighOne of his domestic workers set my luggage down in the entryway. Felix led me inside his mansion, a smile on his face. "Welcome to my home," he said with a sparkle in his eyes. "Welcome home."I looked at him but said no words. I was lost in thoughts. The Felix that I knew from many years back was different from this man with me here. That man was a pauper, this man is a multi billionaire."Where are we going?" I asked him as we ascended the flight of stairs. "You'll see," He responded, not stopping. He pushed a door open and I strolled into a room that left my mouth agape. "Is this your bedroom?" It was too feminine to be his."No, queen. This is your bedroom." For some minutes I paused, savoring the awesomeness of the room with my eyes wide open. It was like something out of a fairy tale, with a large, luxurious bed in the center, draped in white satin. The walls were painted with my favourite shade of pink, and the furniture was made of mahogany. There were fresh dandeli
Everleigh's POV.Felix sat next to me on the bed with a damp cloth on his hand, placed on my head. "I thought the doctor said you've recovered. I don't understand why you had to throw up everything you ate. "I have recovered," I answered, shutting my eyes. The room spun like a merry go round and the bed felt like a moving vehicle. I tried my best to stay calm. "I'll be fine, I promise. I just need to rest.""I'm worried. You fell on your way to the bathroom. I suppose it's because you were dizzy. We need to know what is causing you weakness. Secondly, that is your favorite meal in the world, yet you threw it all up. I think we should go to a hospital. Maybe a different one, this time.""The food was nice, just that it was not spicy enough." "And the collapsing?" "Leave me alone, Felix. I'm just tired. I'm tired and I'm hungry." I felt bad that I was lying to him, especially because he showed genuine concern. But how could I tell him the truth? He hated Clyde so much, I couldn't
Everleigh's POV.I stirred gently on the bed and then I parted my eyelids. I looked at the clock above my head and it was almost ten in the morning. I stood from the bed and shuttled towards the window. I opened the curtains and looked down below. I drew in the fresh morning air and a smile lit up my face. This was a new beginning for me.A hand wrapped around my waist and I felt someone breathe on my skin. I immediately turned around, to see Felix standing behind me with a beautiful smile. "I hope that wasn't inappropriate?" He said to me as he walked with me, back to my bed."Good morning," I replied, perching on the edge of the bed. "Did you sleep well?""Not a wink. We have so much going on at work, I'll be leaving in a few minutes. I came up to check on you before but you weren't awake. I'm glad you're up now. I came to tell you that I'll be leaving and ask if there's something you'll be needing.""I'll be needing nothing, but you can get me anything you want on your way ba
Everleigh's POV.Why would Felix put a camera in my bedroom? There were a gazillion questions in my head and no one to ask. "How stupid of me!" I muttered, slapping my face. The moment he came back, I was going to storm up to him and demand that he clear the memory of the camera. The last thing I wanted him to know was my true identity. Because if by any chance he finds out that I was a liar, he would know that the relationship he and I shared many years ago was based on lies. "Do you really care what he thinks?" I said to myself, pacing the room. There were broken bits of the glass and of the tray. I stepped away from the scene and paced a different side of the room as I wondered if it mattered to me that much. He was my ex and we were nothing but friends. I was unable to give myself an answer, I couldn't decide why I badly wanted him to be oblivious, so I proceeded to have breakfast, after which I had a lazy day in his pool.I sat with my legs inside the water and looked at i
Everleigh's POV.I felt a light tap on my shoulder and my eyes fluttered open. I looked at the lanky man standing before me with a broad smile. His beards appeared slightly bushy, I wondered why I hadn't noticed that in the morning. Regardless, he was a beautiful man. His lips parted in a smile and I felt the rage within me slowly disappear."Welcome," I said to him, sitting up on the bed."Thanks, beautiful. What have you been up to?""Not so much, just destroying the camera you installed in my bedroom.""What?""The cleaners already got rid of the broken bits but you ought to know what I mean. You installed a camera in my bedroom, Felix. Just when I thought I could trust you. Why the hell would you?""I don't get what you're saying." He sounded genuinely confused."Are you saying you didn't install any camera here?""No, ma'am. Why the fuck would I do that?" He threw his hands up in the air, his face showing more confusion than defense."Well, then who was it that had a camera in
Everleigh's POV.We arrived at a fancy restaurant and his driver opened the door for us to walk out. "Stay here and wait for us, we'll be back in two hours." He said to the young man who gave a nod and re-entered the car. Felix held my hand as we both found our way into the eatery. "Wow!" I felt my jaw drop as I looked around me. The entrance was marked by grand, double doors of dark mahogany, flanked by lanterns, their soft glow casting a welcoming light. "What is going on?" I asked Felix, casting a glance at him. "I'm giving you a treat as the goddess that you are." He led me towards an exquisitely furnished room. As we stepped inside, we were greeted by an air of sophistication and a beautiful door lady who showed us to the hall. The room was empty and there was just a table and two plush velvet chairs in the whole room, situated at the center. The walls were adorned with rich and original artworks and the tables were draped in very fine linen. Their surfaces were set with
Everleigh's POV."Everleigh, this is what I have waited and hoped for. " Felix said to me as the pianist turned down the volume of the music. "Fifteen years ago, I planned our proposal. I was going to make you mine. But then I fucked up, I admit I did. And you left me for Clyde. You appeared happy so there was nothing I could do. I let you both be happy together.""Please stand," I said with a whisper. I doubt he heard me because he remained there and continued speaking. "You don't know how much it means to me that you let me be in the picture again after many years. You also don't know how much it means to me that I am able to make that dream come true.""What are you doing, Felix?" I finally said out loud, still stunned. Felix took my hand and continued to speak. "I know that you have no romantic feelings towards me and that's okay.""If you know that I don't like you, why are you proposing that I marry you?""The marriage would be false.""Please stand up, Felix." I was flush
