Chapter 18

Everleigh's POV.

"I suppose it's all over." A message entered Felix's phone. I reached out and took it, watching as the sender continued to type. The beep had woken me up from my sleep but Felix was still dozing. I checked the time on the phone. It was almost six in the morning. I had to start my day soon as It was going to be a busy day.

"I suppose you're no longer avoiding women like they're some plague." Gina was the one bombarding his phone so early in the morning, I wondered what the matter was with her.

I refused to respond, waiting for her to continue typing. "Was she worth the wait?"

I supposed she was speaking about me, so I responded, "Yes.  I am glad I waited for her." I wondered if that would have been Felix's response and what Gina meant.

"Okay, then." Gina seemed upset, I couldn't fathom why. "You think this is over but it isn't."

'What is over?' I was curious to know. Why was she sending her boss weird messages, but I couldn't because that would make her know that Felix wasn't the one with his phone.

I decided to read through the other chats. I began by deleting our conversation. Before I could get to any conversation between them that held valuable information, Felix stirred slightly on the bed, causing me to immediately drop his phone.

"Hi, dear," He said to me. Looking up at me. "You're awake."

I gave a slow nod, "I am. I suppose we should get ready to leave? It's a long journey by road and we don't wanna travel at night."

Felix and I set out for our vacation in long woods garden, Pennsylvania by 11 that morning because we had to pack and clean up.

"I'm worried, Fel," I said as he drove out of his compound down the busy road. "The court case is coming up. I need to be around."

"Don't worry, babe." He reached out and took my hand. "We'll find a way around it. I have already hired a lawyer. Besides, Wilmington isn't far from Pennsylvania. You have nothing to worry about. We can easily drive back."

"I suppose so," I exhaled, picking my phone up and surfing through the millions of messages that came in.

"What's with all that text you are getting, Ever?" His gaze focused on me for a while. His hands still on the wheels.

"People are congratulating me. It's not an easy feat, you know... Getting engaged almost immediately after you got a divorce."

"I guess." Tension rose between us. "At the vacation, what would you like to do?"

"Like you said, I just want to relax, Felix. The past few days have been crazy. I want to take time off the pressure and unwind."

"Do you really trust him?" One of my friends from college had texted. "It's really early. I mean, Ever. That guy is your ex. Were you two seeing each other before you ended things with Clyde? The whole thing is just crazy."

"Are those congratulatory texts still coming in?" Felix asked when he noticed that I had stopped talking to him and was completely focused on my phone.

"Yes. And my friends are extending their regards to you."

A phone call interrupted him before he could respond. He peered into his screen, sighed and continued to drive. "I wonder why so many people are calling me. Is it a big deal that I got engaged?"

"I suppose it is. You do have a history of showing no interest in women, yeah?" I was quoting Gina and hoping he noticed.

"Huh?" He smiled at me, confusion written boldly on his face.

"Never mind. Just answer the phone, Felix. That's the fourteenth call that you have gotten in the past hour, I doubt it has to do with the engagement. It could be a prospect, don't you think?"

"I don't want to take the call because I'm driving." His response didn't seem honest to me.

"If you don't want to take the call, why did you check to know who the caller is."

"Jesus Christ, Everleigh!" The many questions were wearing him out, he put his phone on do not disturb and let out a sigh. "Can you please let me focus?"

"Okay," I said with a shrug. "I will let you focus if that is what you want."

"Are you mad at me?" He heaved, attempting to take my hand but I recoiled. "Come on, Everleigh. Don't be mad at me. I'm sorry for yelling at you, I just don't understand what the many calls are about or what the big deal is."

"I think that's not true. I think you're angry because of who the caller is. You don't understand what the big deal is? Our engagement means nothing I'd suppose. Now, tell me, Felix. Who is on calling?" Even I, couldn't decide why I was interested. It was probably the pregnancy hormones that were making feel this much jealous.

He remained adamant. Refusing to disclose any information and further heightening my suspicion. "It's no one important enough to interrupt our vacation, babe. This means so much to me, that I'll put every distraction away."
