Everleigh's POV.
"I suppose it's all over." A message entered Felix's phone. I reached out and took it, watching as the sender continued to type. The beep had woken me up from my sleep but Felix was still dozing. I checked the time on the phone. It was almost six in the morning. I had to start my day soon as It was going to be a busy day.
"I suppose you're no longer avoiding women like they're some plague." Gina was the one bombarding his phone so early in the morning, I wondered what the matter was with her.
I refused to respond, waiting for her to continue typing. "Was she worth the wait?"
I supposed she was speaking about me, so I responded, "Yes. I am glad I waited for her." I wondered if that would have been Felix's response and what Gina meant.
"Okay, then." Gina seemed upset, I couldn't fathom why. "You think this is over but it isn't."
'What is over?' I was curious to know. Why was she sending her boss weird messages, but I couldn't because that would make her know that Felix wasn't the one with his phone.
I decided to read through the other chats. I began by deleting our conversation. Before I could get to any conversation between them that held valuable information, Felix stirred slightly on the bed, causing me to immediately drop his phone.
"Hi, dear," He said to me. Looking up at me. "You're awake."
I gave a slow nod, "I am. I suppose we should get ready to leave? It's a long journey by road and we don't wanna travel at night."
Felix and I set out for our vacation in long woods garden, Pennsylvania by 11 that morning because we had to pack and clean up.
"I'm worried, Fel," I said as he drove out of his compound down the busy road. "The court case is coming up. I need to be around."
"Don't worry, babe." He reached out and took my hand. "We'll find a way around it. I have already hired a lawyer. Besides, Wilmington isn't far from Pennsylvania. You have nothing to worry about. We can easily drive back."
"I suppose so," I exhaled, picking my phone up and surfing through the millions of messages that came in.
"What's with all that text you are getting, Ever?" His gaze focused on me for a while. His hands still on the wheels.
"People are congratulating me. It's not an easy feat, you know... Getting engaged almost immediately after you got a divorce."
"I guess." Tension rose between us. "At the vacation, what would you like to do?"
"Like you said, I just want to relax, Felix. The past few days have been crazy. I want to take time off the pressure and unwind."
"Do you really trust him?" One of my friends from college had texted. "It's really early. I mean, Ever. That guy is your ex. Were you two seeing each other before you ended things with Clyde? The whole thing is just crazy."
"Are those congratulatory texts still coming in?" Felix asked when he noticed that I had stopped talking to him and was completely focused on my phone.
"Yes. And my friends are extending their regards to you."
A phone call interrupted him before he could respond. He peered into his screen, sighed and continued to drive. "I wonder why so many people are calling me. Is it a big deal that I got engaged?"
"I suppose it is. You do have a history of showing no interest in women, yeah?" I was quoting Gina and hoping he noticed.
"Huh?" He smiled at me, confusion written boldly on his face.
"Never mind. Just answer the phone, Felix. That's the fourteenth call that you have gotten in the past hour, I doubt it has to do with the engagement. It could be a prospect, don't you think?"
"I don't want to take the call because I'm driving." His response didn't seem honest to me.
"If you don't want to take the call, why did you check to know who the caller is."
"Jesus Christ, Everleigh!" The many questions were wearing him out, he put his phone on do not disturb and let out a sigh. "Can you please let me focus?"
"Okay," I said with a shrug. "I will let you focus if that is what you want."
"Are you mad at me?" He heaved, attempting to take my hand but I recoiled. "Come on, Everleigh. Don't be mad at me. I'm sorry for yelling at you, I just don't understand what the many calls are about or what the big deal is."
"I think that's not true. I think you're angry because of who the caller is. You don't understand what the big deal is? Our engagement means nothing I'd suppose. Now, tell me, Felix. Who is on calling?" Even I, couldn't decide why I was interested. It was probably the pregnancy hormones that were making feel this much jealous.
He remained adamant. Refusing to disclose any information and further heightening my suspicion. "It's no one important enough to interrupt our vacation, babe. This means so much to me, that I'll put every distraction away."
EverleighHis masculine voice said words that I had been craving to hear. "I love you!" Although I wasn't completely conscious, my eyes fluttered in excitement. When I opened my eyes, what I saw changed my life. It felt like a dream, I couldn't believe it. Slowly, my vision cleared. Clyde stood with his back against me, his hands around the neck of someone.Something is wrong - he was whispering to someone I couldn't see. He'd told her he loved her, not me. I swallowed hard and squinted in an attempt to get a closer look. The headache that followed was too much to bear, and so I shut my eyes again and listened rather, not wanting to make them realize that I was awake. Like a nightmare, the clock ticked slowly, my heart beat rapidly, and moments passed. Whispers were exchanged. I heard all of it."You did promise you'd divorce her. What's the holdup?" The lady asked impatiently. Her voice sounded familiar."Hold on, baby," My husband, Clyde responded, sounding both tense and unhappy.
Everleigh"Do you plan on marrying me?" The guy who was with me in the room asked, wearing a mischievous grin."Lol, no. But I called you over because I wanted you to..."Before I could complete my statement, I heard footsteps approaching. We both looked at the door, in anticipation for who it was coming to my hospital room.I knew it was Clyde, which left me both excited and angry. I couldn't wait to see the look on his face when he walked in and saw who I was with, by this time of the night. I was yet to get over what I witnessed earlier between him and Laura. To make things worse was the sudden appearance of Madison. Regardless, my mind was made up. I was done with the marriage and I wasn't going to leave quietly. It was a Saturday evening, and the moonlight streamed through the window, casting shadows across the bedroom floor. When Clyde shuttled into the room, I watched his face turn pale as he saw me sitting up on the hospital bed, next to my ex boyfriend. He shone a piercin
EverleighI picked up my phone to call Felix, when I heard a knock on the door. I looked at the door that bulged open, and my gaze caught the handsome, tall blonde doctor. He smiled at me, with a report in his hand. The doctor strode towards my bed, his white coat billowing behind him like a cape. He had a bounce in his step as he approached me. Whatever he had to tell me seemed positive, I was relieved. I had waited the whole morning for the medical report, I couldn't wait for the news for another second.“Am I going to die?” I asked him, sitting up on the bed.“Far from it,” He replied. Standing next to my bed and looking down at me. "Mrs Ever, dear, I have good news." He was grinning from ear to ear. I guessed correctly, it was good news."Well, spill it and let me get out of here. I was to be discharged this morning, but you kept me here till now." I looked up at the clock above my head, then continued, "It's almost noon Dr Robin. I'm sorry if I sound uneasy but I indeed am. I
EverleighMy heels clicked against the hospital floor as I made my way to the exit. Felix wrapped his hand around my waist, a mischievous grin on his face. We were headed for the hospital hall. He must have dreamt of this day for so long. And in contrast, this was my biggest fear. But we are both happy now. I am excited to be free, and he's excited to be with me again. And get his revenge."This is going to be so dramatic," Felix whispered, feeling slightly nervous and excited as we got closer."You have always loved drama. Don't you remember six years ago?!""You still haven't forgiven me, Ever. You are so strange." Felix rolled his eyes. Before I could reply, we were in the hospital hallway. Clyde stood at the far end, walking towards my ward. A few nurses had walked past Felix and I, but they were too busy to stop and look. Some patients who weren't in a critical condition couldn't help but stand in awe, gazing at the scene that was about to play out."What the fuck is going on
EverleighThe driver set out, leaving the hospital. I sat in the backseat of the car with Felix beside me and watched as he peered out of the windshield and scanned the area. He seemed unsure of where to go next. It appeared that he was hesitant to ask Felix where to take us. Felix noticed the uncertainty in his slow driving and spoke up. "Gerald, take us to my place.""Right away, sir!" The driver responded and matched the pedal. "Your house, Felix?" I turned to look at him. "I didn't consent to that.""I know, Ever. But I think it's best because...""Because you miss me?" I asked him with a frown. "Because you wish to bond with me.""No! I mean, I did miss you. But that's not the only reason I want you to come with me to my house. We spotted Laura next to this car moments ago. And somehow, she vanished into thin air. Do you think that is plain? They want to set you up, Ever. I'm so sure of it.""What does any of that have to do with your house? Let them do their worst!""I want
EverleighOne of his domestic workers set my luggage down in the entryway. Felix led me inside his mansion, a smile on his face. "Welcome to my home," he said with a sparkle in his eyes. "Welcome home."I looked at him but said no words. I was lost in thoughts. The Felix that I knew from many years back was different from this man with me here. That man was a pauper, this man is a multi billionaire."Where are we going?" I asked him as we ascended the flight of stairs. "You'll see," He responded, not stopping. He pushed a door open and I strolled into a room that left my mouth agape. "Is this your bedroom?" It was too feminine to be his."No, queen. This is your bedroom." For some minutes I paused, savoring the awesomeness of the room with my eyes wide open. It was like something out of a fairy tale, with a large, luxurious bed in the center, draped in white satin. The walls were painted with my favourite shade of pink, and the furniture was made of mahogany. There were fresh dandeli
Everleigh's POV.Felix sat next to me on the bed with a damp cloth on his hand, placed on my head. "I thought the doctor said you've recovered. I don't understand why you had to throw up everything you ate. "I have recovered," I answered, shutting my eyes. The room spun like a merry go round and the bed felt like a moving vehicle. I tried my best to stay calm. "I'll be fine, I promise. I just need to rest.""I'm worried. You fell on your way to the bathroom. I suppose it's because you were dizzy. We need to know what is causing you weakness. Secondly, that is your favorite meal in the world, yet you threw it all up. I think we should go to a hospital. Maybe a different one, this time.""The food was nice, just that it was not spicy enough." "And the collapsing?" "Leave me alone, Felix. I'm just tired. I'm tired and I'm hungry." I felt bad that I was lying to him, especially because he showed genuine concern. But how could I tell him the truth? He hated Clyde so much, I couldn't
Everleigh's POV.I stirred gently on the bed and then I parted my eyelids. I looked at the clock above my head and it was almost ten in the morning. I stood from the bed and shuttled towards the window. I opened the curtains and looked down below. I drew in the fresh morning air and a smile lit up my face. This was a new beginning for me.A hand wrapped around my waist and I felt someone breathe on my skin. I immediately turned around, to see Felix standing behind me with a beautiful smile. "I hope that wasn't inappropriate?" He said to me as he walked with me, back to my bed."Good morning," I replied, perching on the edge of the bed. "Did you sleep well?""Not a wink. We have so much going on at work, I'll be leaving in a few minutes. I came up to check on you before but you weren't awake. I'm glad you're up now. I came to tell you that I'll be leaving and ask if there's something you'll be needing.""I'll be needing nothing, but you can get me anything you want on your way ba
