Chapter 14

Felix's POV.

As we drove through the familiar path back to my mansion, Everleigh and I talked about so much.

While we spoke, I uploaded the pictures taken of us by the photographers on my I*******m.

"These are very beautiful pictures," I said to her with a brief smile.

"I admit that they are." She gave a casual response.

"You are ageless, Ever. You're beautiful and it's almost as if you never age."

I compared the recent pictures with the ones we took years back when she and I were still together. "We look good together," I added, hoping not to upset her.

She was on her phone and so didn't pay any attention to my words. "Clyde just texted me."

She said with a bland expression on her face, finally looking up at me. She let out a sigh and then she tossed the phone to the chair of the car.

"What did his message say?" I took her phone and read the text with a broad smile on my face. Finally, every bit of my plan was coming together.

I looked at her with pity, wondering if she deserved what I was about to put her through and what I had already put her through.

"You moved on so fast, which is proof that everything you claim to have for me was false. We will meet in court, Everleigh.

I am not letting you keep any of what I own. I worked hard for all of them. I do not love you, I bet you see that now. And guess what?

Felix doesn't love you either. Believe me when I tell you that he is just using you. No one can love you, Everleigh.

You are undeserving of love." Clyde's words were very cruel. But they weren't entirely false.

I let out a sigh, turned to look at her and returned her phone to her.

She wore a gloomy face, I pulled her close to myself in an embrace. "He's just jealous, which is the plan anyway.

We want him to be jealous, don't we?" I tried to console her. She was visibly shaken by his words.

She didn't respond to my question, nor did she listen to any of the words I spoke.

After a while of thought, she said, "He's not wrong." Her face showed pain. "Neither you nor him loves me."

"I loved you, Ever. Unlike Clyde who had no affection for you. What you and I shared was true. You know that I loved you." I did.

Even though I didn't feel the same for her at the moment, I loved her when we were together and she knew it.

"None of that matters now." It was evident in her facial expression that it mattered so much to her how she had been treated.

"I know what you deserve, Everleigh." I said rubbing her scalp softly. "You deserve a vacation."

"A vacation?" She repeated after me, as if making sure she heard me well. I gave a slow nod, maintaining eye contact with her.

"A fucking vacation?" She said again. She was angry and I couldn't help but wonder what it was that upset her.

"What does that have to do with what is going on with me and Clyde? You read the message from him.

We have a hearing in a few days, I need to be present. I lost my lawyer, I'll need to get another.

I just recovered, I have so much going on. The last thing I want to do is distract myself with a vacation.

I cannot afford to lose all round. I have no partner, and like he said,

I am undeserving of love but one thing is certain. I am hardworking and I am not letting anyone enjoy what I labored for."

"You lost your lawyer? What does that even mean?"

"It's a long story, Felix. He is not dead, but he is no longer my lawyer.

I have no time for vacations and pleasure, I need to get another lawyer as soon as possible.

It would mean the world to me if I can claim at least fifty percent of everything that Clyde and I worked for. I did most of the work so I deserve it."

"It's alright, Ever. I'll make sure that you get a good lawyer and I'll make sure you get all you need to be comfortable."

"Thank you," she said. A smile lit up her face. "For everything."

I felt guilty as I crossed my arm around her waist and responded, "You're welcome, dear."

Everleigh and I got back to my mansion to meet some of my friends and colleagues waiting for us. "Who are these people?"

She asked me, looking up at me. We both shuttled towards my mansion, confused. I was just as confused as she was.

"Congratulations!" My personal assistant said to me, "We heard the news.

I made a quick post on the platform and a lot of your staff members offered to come over for a quick party."

"By this time at night?" It was almost ten at night.

It made no sense that she heard about my proposal to Everleigh which was two hours ago and somehow, managed to pull off a big party like this one with all these people present.

"Night parties are the best and we all know it. Congratulations to you too, ma'am."

She said to Everleigh wearing a smile that I recognised as false. Gina had a huge crush on me and she wasn't the only one.

The thought of the other motives she might have that made her host a 'surprise' party to celebrate my engagement frightened me.

"Thanks, dearest," Everleigh responded with an equally false smile.

Everleigh wasn't happy that we were lying to the world. But she wanted her revenge.

I stood next to her as we walked into my living room. Everyone who I cared about was present.

No matter what her intentions were, I had to admit that Gina did a great job.

"It's a beauty party," Everleigh said, stepping forward to grab a glass cup.

"It is." I replied about joining her. Almost immediately, my phone began to ring. I checked to know who the caller was and a frown carved out on my face.

"What does Laura want this time?" I murmured under my breath, sneaking out of the party to my bedroom.
