Lucille stood up but didn't move. She looked up at Spencer with her face crinkled pitifully. She pouted and said, "It hurts, honey. I think I tugged on the wounds on my back; I can't walk now. I need help."

Spencer's anger dissipated when he saw her being coquettish with him. All that was left was resignation and helplessness.
