Chapter 220

The early morning sunlight filtered in through the window and landed on the hotel's pristine white sheets. A muffled noise tore through the silence.

It was amidst that soft yet familiar sound that Lucille woke up. Spencer was no longer in bed with her, but his side of the bed was still warm. It meant he hadn't been away for long. She shot up in bed and sat there dazedly for a while.

Then, she lowered her eyes, her expression grim. Why had there been a gunshot? If she hadn't been imagining anything, she'd heard two gunshots outside the hotel room. Yet, oddly enough, it was silent now.

She was pondering this when Spencer entered the room, already fully dressed.

"You're awake." His voice was gentle and affectionate. "Get up for breakfast, then."

He strode over to the bed and reached up to tidy her mussed-up hair a little. Lucille's gaze landed on his handsome face, her voice a little hoarse after just waking up as she asked, "What happened outside?"
