Chapter 30

Elika breathed deeply, erupting into a fit of coughing. She placed a hand over her chest as she panted, glancing towards Michael as she attempted to come up with an excuse. The princess sighed, her un-comfort rising as no one had ever seen her in such a state other than her mother. Before she had time to come up with an answer, her uncle’s comrade growled; leaning closer to the tub.

“Make sure you do not lie to me, princess. Tell me why you were in the water for so long.” Michael commanded, tapping his fingers on the tiled floor.

The princess lowered her eyes to the towel she held around her exposed body, biting her lip as she spoke; her voice soft and low. “I ... I was upset and ... I went under the water to calm myself ... I don’t think that I was under for long...”

“You were underwater for well over an hour; I came in around then and thought you had run. But, both Joey and Goodwin never saw you leave. Neither did Robe
