The amount of fear that I feel right now is overwhelming. I am alone and vulnerable, and I don’t even have the ability to fight back. The demon’s strength is remarkable, his hold on me is without mercy.
“Let go of me!” I yell as I am dragged from behind the giant oak tree.
“You see? I told you guys that I smelt someone,” The demon holding me says. He presses my body onto him, giving me no way to free myself.
“Okay, you made your point, let her go,” One of his friends says, he sounds nervous.
This is my first interaction with another species. All I have known is this town and my own people, werewolves.
“Let her go? Seriously, Jose?” The one holding me tightly replies.
His friends look uncomfortable with what is happening, and I continue to yell for help, hoping that someone would hear me and come to my rescue. I don’t want to die.
From all the stories that I have been told about demons, I expected them to look like evil itself. I expected them to look disfigured and disgusting, but looking at them right now, they are way different from my expectation.
They look entirely normal, except for their darkened eyes and the powerful stench of sulfur on them.
“Please let me go,” I start to cry when I realize that no one can hear my screams. This night just gets worse and worse.
“Might I remind you? This is Werewolf Territory, we are not supposed to be here. The moment we let her go, she is going to run straight to the Alpha and tell him about us. That could cause another war!” The one holding me explains.
“I swear I am not going to tell anyone,” I try to convince them, and they all just stare at me.
“So what do you propose that we do?” The one called Jose asks.
“We can take her back to Hades,” The one holding me says, and my lips tremble as more tears fall from my eyes freely.
“Please…” I continue to beg them, but they’re not listening to me.
“Okay, then let’s get it done, the longer we stay here while she cries loudly, the more likely we are to get caught,” Jose says, and I continue to try to jerk my body from the hold of the one holding me.
In my attempt to free myself, I elbow the demon’s stomach with force and he lets go of me for a quick second, giving me the small opportunity to run.
“Sh*t, get her!” They all chase after me as I run as fast as I can. All I can hear right now is their rushed footsteps and my heavy breathing. I pass by trees and the dirt scrunch under my feet with each step I take.
My legs continue to move in swift movements and I can finally see the road that leads out of the forest. With nothing but hope in my heart, I thrust more of my weight forward in order to increase my speed.
“Stop her!” I hear one of them say loudly and before I know it, I am being body slammed to the dirt-covered ground.
My body hits the ground with a strong force and my head bangs against something really hard, causing me to be knocked unconscious.
***
My eyes open slowly and a huge pain arrests my head, causing me to groan as I sit up from my lying position. It seems to be that I am in a room, I don’t recognize it but the theme looks strange.
I feel thirsty and lightheaded.
Everything in this room is dark-themed except for the fancy chandelier hanging in the middle of the ceiling, it emits white light. There are empty picture frames hanging on the wall and the room smells like burnt matches.
Images of me running away from demons that were chasing me pop into my mind, reminding me of what happened to me. I was chased and kidnapped.
I don’t know where I’m at, but I have an idea. I may be in Demon Territory.
I must have been knocked out when one of those demons that were chasing me body slammed me to the ground.
I drag my body from the bed I am on and stand to my feet. My head is still hurting but my main concern right now is to find a way to get out of here. It’s a miracle that I am not dead already. Demons don’t have the reputation of being merciful or kind.
I walk towards the door and I try to turn the knob in an attempt to get it open, but it's locked. I try the door a few more times and then I give up. It just won’t open.
I walk back to the bed and sit on it, and then a sudden sound grabs my attention. It’s the door, someone is coming in.
I hold my breath as the door unlocks and slowly opens. A man dressed in all-black clothing walks in with a curious look on his face. I let go of my breath and I prepare to defend myself against him if I have to.
“Hi,” He says softly as he closes the door once he is in. “I’m guessing you are confused and afraid,” He begins.
He stands by the door and makes no attempt to come closer to me, and I am grateful. I know that he is a demon because his eyes are darkened and there are small distinct tattoo-like marks on his face.
The guys that attacked me in the woods had the same marking on their faces but theirs were not as much.
“My guys told me everything that happened and I just want to say that I am terribly sorry, they are being punished as we speak,” He flashes me a small smile as he explains.
“You’re a demon, aren’t you?” I speak for the first time, and he nods slowly.
“I’m the leader of demons, or in short, a demon king,” He folds his arm on his chest. He is very attractive and speaks gracefully.
“Am I in hell?” I ask him, and he laughs.
“No, you’re definitely not. Hell is for the punished and condemned, it’s for the ones that death has claimed,” He takes a step closer to me. “What can I call you?” He inquires.
“Lara Zane,” I reply to him smoothly, and he smiles. He has a charming smile.
“And you’re a she-wolf…” He says as if he already knows. “It’s pretty easy to tell if someone is a werewolf, their aura screams their identity,” He adds, and then he takes another step.
“What were your people doing in our territory?” I ask him boldly, and he scoffs softly.
“They were there on their own, I had nothing to do with it. I know very well about the laws that were set in place after the war; no one is to step into the other one’s territory unannounced,” The demon king explains.
His voice is rough yet smooth, there is no perfect way to describe it, but what I can say is that I like hearing it.
“It’s an act of war,” I say as I stand on my feet.
“Which is why they are being punished for their actions, and why I apologized to you,” He takes another step. He is now within an arm’s reach from me, and he is staring at the side of my head.
“You’re hurt,” He says as he raises his hand to inspect the small wound on my head. Instead of me backing away, I allow him to look at the wound. I stare into his eyes and it is like looking into a very deep darkened pit with no end.
As soon as his hand touches my wound, I flinch. It felt as if hot coal had been placed on me.
“It’s alright, you’re healed,” He withdraws his hand and the pain that I was once feeling before has now completely vanished.
“How did you do that?” I ask him in disbelief as I place my hand to where I was once hurt, the wound is literally gone!
“I have certain abilities,” He smirks. “I am prepared to take you back to your town and apologize to your people,” He informs me.
I should be jumping at this opportunity, but instead, I am contemplating whether I even want to go back. Back home, everyone sees me as the low-ranked omega who can not shift into her wolf. I have been bullied for years because of it.
And now that I was publically rejected by the Alpha, I would be the talk of the town. Going back does not seem like an option that I would enjoy, it seems like more years of bullying and torture.
“You don’t have to,” I reply to him as I sigh loudly, and he raises his eyebrows in confusion. “Because I’m staying…”
I hope you all are enjoying the story as much as I am enjoying writing it!
“No,” He laughs.“Definitely no. I can not allow that,” Zayn says to me as he runs his hand through his hair.“What do you mean by that?” I ask him angrily, but he seems amused by my anger.“Let me make this clear for you; you are a werewolf and this is demon territory. If my people stepping foot in your territory is an act of war, then you staying here would be war itself,” He explains to me.“Sounds dramatic,” I reply to him, and he stares at me curiously.“Dramatic would be me publicly announcing to my people that you are a werewolf spy that I caught trying to assassinate me,” He smirks, and my mouth drops open in shock.“You wouldn’t dare,” I reply to him, and he walks toward the bed and sits on the edge.“For centuries, everyone has seen demons as evil, and outcasts from heaven that serve the devil; so accusing you falsely would just be the icing on the cake,” He yawns after he speaks.“But you won’t do that,” I fold my arms on my chest. He smiles in response and then breathes ou
“I don’t need to give you a reason because I am your king, you will do what I wish,” Zayn says firmly to her without blinking, and she gulps.“And what do you wish, oh great king?” Her tone is slightly sarcastic.“That you’d give her a chance,” He replies to her smoothly, referring to me.“You know, I just don’t get it. Her people killed your father and you’re just okay with her being in your face,” Bunny spits the words out as she turns around to leave, but Zayn stops her by grabbing her arm.Wait, what?“Do not bring my father into this or I swear I would kill you with my bare hands,” He threatens her. A rogue tear escapes one of his darkened eyes and I can tell that he is triggered emotionally.“I think I should go,” I finally speak up, and both of them stare at me.There is no way I could convince Bunny to let me stay, she hates my guts with a hatred that is beyond me.“Let go of me,” Bunny jerks her arm out of Zayn’s grasp.“I am so sorry, this is all my fault,” I apologize to bo
Zoe jumps into action and stops me from hitting Ashton. “Hey, hey!” She says loudly in an attempt to calm me. She stands between Ashton and me as a blockade. With anger and regret filling me on the insides, I feel my wolf begin to beg to come out. “Tessa, you need to calm down,” Zoe says when she notices that I am on the verge of transforming into a werewolf. I know that I can not take down Ashton in a fight, he’s an impressive Alpha, but I don’t give a damn. “I have done a lot of dumb sh*ts so you have to be specific when you blame me for something,” Ashton says to me, and I narrow my eyes at him. “Is this about Lara?” He asks when I don’t reply. My chest heaves up and down as a low growl escapes my lips. My bones are aching to elongate, but I try to resist the urge. “Why did you reject her?” I ask Ashton. “Come on, Tessa, you know why. It’s because of his father,” Zoe answers the question. “Why don’t you stop fighting your new boyfriend’s battles and allow him to speak for
***Lara Zane’s POV***Zayn has a smile on his face and Bunny is smirking while I have a look of unbelief. Did I just hear what I think I did?“Excuse me?” I try to get her to say that I am okay to stay in Demon Territory again.“Oh, sweetie, I know you heard me, I’m not repeating myself,” She winks when she says this. She then begins to walk and Zayn and I follow her. She leads us into one of the castle-like buildings. I get a few weird stares from all the people I walk past but I ignore them.“I would have to inform my people publicly before the day ends though,” Zayn tells me.“If he doesn’t, you might get murdered by just going to the grocery store. Our people absolutely hate your kind,” Bunny adds, and I nod nervously.Well, that explains the weird stares.I don’t know where we are heading but I follow both of them closely and soon we enter an elevator. It stuns me that the Demon Territory looks so normal, I thought it would be raining ashes and the ground would be covered with bu
“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” Bunny says loudly as she stops the Demon King from coming any closer to me.“You have no idea what position you have placed me in!” Zayn shouts.“Me?” I scoff.“I did not ask to be chased by demons, kidnapped, and brought here, did I?” I raise my voice also, causing Zayn’s face to redden more from anger.“Your people want war, I will give them one hell of a war!” He replies to me as he breathes out shakily.“What are you saying? Is it her people that declared war against us? And why?” Bunny is confused, and so am I.“I got word that Lara’s people are declaring war against us. I asked why, and they said that I killed one of their own; which is ridiculous because I didn’t!” He defends himself.Gosh, he is so pissed. “I think this is about Lara,” Bunny says to herself slowly.“You think?” Zayn replies.“Okay, you want me out of your city? Fine!” I snap, and I walk away from both of them.“You f*cker,” I hear Bunny say to Zayn, and then she rushes after me.“I think w
They say that the truth would set you free, but in this particular case, it would f*ck me up. I can’t tell Harvey Martins, the Lycan, that I was chased by demons in Hulu forest and they managed to kidnap me. If a demon even breathes a whiff of air on Werewolf grounds and Harvey finds out, he would see that as an act of war. “Great, your sister and Ashton are here,” My mom walks to the front door to open it, for it is being knocked on. My mom opens the door without asking and she is right, it is Zoe and Ashton. Seeing them spending time together should not be bothering me as much as it is right now. Both of them walk in and Zoe rushes toward me. “Gosh, you’re alive,” She breathes a sigh of relief as she hugs me tightly. I gladly hug her back, for I did miss her too. “Yeah,” I reply to her as we break the hug. “Hi,” Ashton waves to me nervously and I nod stiffly in response. “We thought you died…I thought I had lost you forever,” Zoe says to me as she smiles sadly. “Well, her
"Each of us must confront our own fears, must come face to face with them. How we handle our fears will determine where we go with the rest of our lives. To experience adventure or to be limited by the fear of it."-Judy Blume ………… “What is your name, dear?” The Lycan asks as he breathes out a shaky sigh. “Lara Zane, from the Blue River pack,” I reply to him, mustering all the confidence that I can. “Well, Ms. Zane, your story has some holes in it, but I really don’t give a damn,” He walks close to me. I can sense his strength and power by just looking at him. “What do you care about then?” I ask him, and he smiles. “Good question,” He mumbles as he nods slowly. “What I care about is the werewolf people and their well-being. I don’t give a flying sh*t if you decide to lay in bed with a demon, but you should know that once one crosses that line, one can’t come back from it,” Harvey explains as he paces the room slowly. Everyone is watching him in silence. “I’m not laying with
***Zayn Meyer’s POV***Werewolves and Demons weren’t always enemies. Once upon a time, years ago before the war, we lived together in the same town. We helped each other and saw each other as allies. We even interbred. It was all perfect. Well, too perfect because it all then went to hell.I was 13 years old when that dark day came. I have nightmares about that day every single night, and each time, I wake up in cold sweat, breathing heavily, with the vivid image of my father's heart being ripped out of his chest by a werewolf. The town we all lived in together was called “Beacon”. It was the largest society of the werewolf and demon species. Hundreds of different packs of werewolves, and even more legions of demons dwelt in Beacon in peace and harmony. There were two leaders of this great town; my father and Harvey Martins. They ruled with wisdom and love until one day envy and insecurity poisoned the heart of the Lycan. He noticed that everyone was listening more to my father and
“Come on, guys. You have Lara and me out here waiting like kids waiting to open up gifts on Christmas morning!” Zayn exclaimed, causing everyone to laugh. The door suddenly opened by itself and my eyes widened mildly. “Did that door just open by itself?” I took a step back, and Ashton and Zoe were amused by my reaction. The door opened wider and a golden retriever jumped out of the car, almost giving me a heart attack. “Gosh!” I exclaimed as I held Zayn’s arm tightly. “I’m not going to lie, I was a bit startled when that dog came out.” Zayn laughed lightly. “So that’s the surprise, huh? A doggie.” Zayn bend down and played with the dog. I had a small fear of dogs. One bit me when I was a kid and since then I have been terrified of them. No matter how cute and cuddly they were, I stayed my distance away from them. The golden retriever kept licking and jumping on Zayn like it had known him for years. “The doggie is a surprise but not for you guys, he’s for the kids.” Ashton
It was Christmas day, the 25th of December. Werewolves were howling in celebration even though it was the sun that was up. Carols were being played and families were together. The air was warm, the sky was crystal blue, and the day was perfect. Where did the Werewolf Territory take the concept of Christmas when we believed in the Moon goddess? We adopted it thousands of years ago when humans once lived amongst us. They celebrated our holidays and so we did the same, as a show of respect. That was when the word Christmas entered the vocabulary of the Werewolf Territory. And since then, we have celebrated the day and passed on the tradition from generation to generation. The Christmas tree in the living room was lit up and gifts were scattered under it. All the kids were up and sat eagerly next to their presents, waiting for us to give them the go-ahead to start opening up them. The air was filled with anticipation and joy. A hot cup of chocolate sat in my hand and Zayn was drinki
My claws immediately sprang forth from underneath my fingernails, and a growl escaped my mouth. “What the hell are you doing here? You should be in prison.” I was on the verge of wolfing out. It was not like I felt threatened by Jacob, but I did not like the fact that he was in our mansion without us even knowing. The kids were literally right across the hall from there. “Please. Please calm down and let me explain,” He begged. He placed the box of chocolate on the kitchen island and took a step toward us.“Not another step, buddy. I won’t hesitate to rip you to pieces.” Zayn threatened him, and he gulped as he nodded. My wolf had not gotten any real action for a while and it was yearning for some. I usually trained in the training room with Zoe and the others almost every Saturday though my wolf wanted more. “Start explaining.” I breathed out a short sigh as I continued to keep my wolf at bay.“Okay. Okay. But first, promise not to kick me out, please?” His eyes were pleading. I
‘You can’t save me, she-wolf.’ The words echoed in my head as I stared into Alex’s sad eyes. He looked convinced that he was beyond saving and that seemed to scare me a bit. He was too sure.“But at least let me try,” I begged him. He scoffed. “What are you even going to do? Bring my wife back?” He rose to his feet. “For now, Lara, just let me try to figure out the journey I’m on emotionally. I will go back to my pack…eventually.” “Okay.” I did not push him. And he did have a point. What was I going to do to save him? I was not a superhero. I did not have special powers. I was just a she-wolf that cared deeply for people. And apparently, that was called a hero mentality; wanting to help everyone to the point where sometimes I didn’t even regard myself. Alex may have said it while he was lashing out but I think he was right: He had been a leader way longer than I had. I may have been queen but that was just a nice coating, deep inside, I was still an omega. “It’s kind of late, I th
First of all, thank you all for reading and following this intriguing journey of Lara. I truly appreciate you all. I too, have fallen in love with this story and would have loved to write it forever but sadly, every good thing comes to an end eventually. The bonus chapters would soon be exhausted. I aim to write two more and then tag the story as completed soon. After I have updated the last two chapters, I would add another Author Note. PLEASE write REVIEWS for the book. Also, I would love for you all to vote(GIVE GEMS), and write COMMENTS! They make my day and literally pushes to write more content. I look forward to hearing from you all! :)
A few seconds of silence filled the home theatre because the cartoon could not play forever, obviously. The projector was now off and the fancy inbuild lights on the ceiling were on. Alex sat next to me and played with his fingers nervously. He looked slightly uncomfortable but a look of determination also could be seen on his face. “For starters, I have two questions.” I began, and he turned his full attention to me. “Shoot.”“First one is what you mean when you said that I have earned the right or privilege to ask you about anything?” I raised one of my eyebrows. He smiled weakly. “Lara, you have become family. You have proven to me that you can be trusted and that you are willing to go through hell to protect my son. Do we have to do the whole ‘I am a blessing’ stuff over again?” He chuckled, and I could not help but laugh lightly. “No, thank you,” I refused as I continued to laugh. “That is why I came back here after I lashed out at you. You did not deserve that; you have be
I sat down next to Alex and the smell of his cologne filled my nose. It was a strong scent but I really liked it though. The black-and-white cartoon playing on the projector was aesthetically pleasing. It reminded me of the past. Not just any past, or mine. But like the 1960s. Weird because I was not even alive at that time but that was the vibe I got from looking at Mickey Mouse doing funny dances while in black-and-white color. “You said you wanted to talk?” Alex smiled weakly as intrigue smeared his facial features. He was wearing a hoodie that looked great on him. If we were not about to talk about serious matters, I would have asked him where he got it. “Yeah, but you go first. What do you want to talk about?” I adjusted myself in my seat and made myself comfortable enough. My attention was trained on him as I awaited him to speak. “You sure?” “Yeah, go ahead.” I encouraged him. I was curious as to what he wanted to talk to me about. But I already knew what I wanted to talk
I crossed my legs and watched Gene and Zayn sip lemonade from the glasses that were brought by the male helper. I was very invested in Gene’s backstory. I wanted to know more. “You have not touched your lemonade, dear,” Gene pointed out and we both glanced at the tall glass that was filled with the yellowy-sugary drink. “Her teeth hurt when she drinks lemonade,” Zayn explained politely, and I smiled involuntarily. He placed his hand over mine on the couch and a warm feeling filled my chest. “Sorry,” I mouthed to Gene but she brushed me off lightly. “Oh, that’s alright. You should have told me.” She crossed her legs too. “Would you like me to send for water?” “No, it’s okay. Don’t trouble yourself.” I played with the tips of my hair. “You said that the Silver Moon pack has unspoken laws?” “Uh, yeah. Laws that have been passed down from generation to generation. It’s not written and posted somewhere but it’s in the hearts of all the inhabitants of Rocky. I learned about those laws
Smiles. Laughter. Joy. A lightness filled the air as Alex got out of the detective’s car. Snow fell from the sky and soon made white patches on his hair. His face was flushed and he had a smile so bright, that it could light up a dark night. The light humming of the car lingered in the air, and detective Stone and her wife got out of the car seconds later with cheerful looks on their faces. Bunny and the others joined us outside and Liam was out of words when his eyes landed on his dad. He glanced at me and his lips parted in disbelief. “Thank you,” He mouthed, and then turned his attention back to Alex. Liam watched his dad approach him and his eyes became glossy as they threatened to spill tears. He kept clenching and unclenching his jaw, and I could tell that he was trying his best to stop himself from crying. When Alex closed the distance between him and his son, they hugged each other tightly, and the scene made me teary. Zayn wrapped his right arm around my torso and pulled
