We stayed with Harper and her mother while they called the police and told them everything. Harper confessed that her mother was just trying to protect her and that it was not pre-meditated. They tried their best to explain themselves but I guess the justice system would be the one deciding their fate.Harper and her mom did what they told me that they would do, they left Zayn, Bunny, Azula, and me out of their confession. “Everything’s going to be okay,” I tell them as the officers take them away. I feel a bit bad but I’m sure that this is the best thing for them right now. This was an inevitable end result. They would have gotten caught anyway so it was best that they turned themselves in.I leave the house and head back to Zoe and Ashton. When I reached there, I realize that they were all in the backyard around something like a campfire. My parents were there, along with Ashton, Zoe, and even Tessa.“You were out for long, where were you?” Zoe asks me when I sat next to Tessa and
I covered my mouth with my hand as I tried to process what I happening. “Oh my god,” I laughed happily, and Zayn chuckled as he awaited my answer.Almost everyone in the restaurant had their attention on us. A few were even recording and they all waited for me to give the perfect reply to Zayn.“Yes! Yes, Zayn Meyer, I would love to be your wife!” A tear escaped his eye and he laughed cheerily. He held my hand and slipped one of the most beautiful rings I have ever seen on my finger. He then stood up and we hugged as everyone clapped. Immediately after we broke the hug, he kissed me and I kissed him back, allowing my emotions to rule me.“Congrats!” Someone in the small crowd of people watching shouted when we broke the kiss. “I love you so much and I am so grateful that you agreed to spend the rest of your life with me as I do too.” Zayn touches my hair gently. “I love you too, and I have made stupid decisions in the past, but I believe that this is the best and most sane one yet.”
I stared at her for a few seconds while she smiled. She had a look on her face that told me that she knew more than she was letting on. “Sure, come in.” I allowed her to enter the place and I closed the door once she was in.The music was still playing in the house and I walked to the kitchen island and took the remote for the stereo. I turned off the music with the remote and I led the girl to the living room. When we both sat down, I waited for her to tell me why she was there.“So, as I told you, I would love for you to have an open mind about what I’m about to tell you…” She began and I nodded in response.“Of course.”“So I am a demon and I have been living here in demon territory for eons.”I chuckled a bit when she said this. “Eons? Come on, I’m not dumb. Demons here in the material realm age. I know this.”“Which is why I told you to have an open mind…”“Okay, I’m sorry. You may continue.” I crossed my right leg over the other, ready to give her the benefit of the doubt.“As I
The cab driver seems to be very nice. He tells me a little bit about where we are heading: Duazon. He tells me about its history and heritage, that it was the first place that demons settled after they were kicked out of Beacon during the war.But after advancements and a few breakthroughs, the demons began to do things with the help of their new king, Zayn. Things like building skyscrapers and transitioning into a modern lifestyle. After this, almost everyone moved out of Duazon and into the city, leaving only those who could afford to do so. The people left behind did not care much because Duazon was now their home as much as the city was. They had children and those children had children who also stayed in Duazon. But after many years, this place got known for its low-income lifestyle. “Thank you so much,” I extended my gratitude to the cab driver for informing me of all these things about our destination. We have now reached and when I tried to pay him, he lets me know that it’
After my chat with Julia, she made me promise to keep all that she told me a secret, and although I wanted to tell her no, I said yes. She then gave me a tour of her house, which was lovely by the way. It reminded me of my home back home. Not the really new nice one that parents or Zoe now lived in; but the one that we shared for so many years. I stayed there longer than I had thought I would. I ended up helping her make dinner and after we ate, she told me about her parents.“My dad was a vampire, and my mom was a demon.” She chuckled lowly and looked like she was creating an image of them in her mind. “They died when I was about to graduate from high school. Well…they were killed.”“What?” I gasped lowly, and she gave me a smile to let me know that it was okay. “Very few people, now including you, know that vampires exist. There is a town so far away from the Werewolf Territory and Demon Territory. That town is practically non-existent in the eyes of demons and werewolves. But it
The man stared at me and did not attempt to leave the elevator. When the automated doors began to close, he stopped them by blocking them with his arm. The doors sensed his arm and then opened once again.“This is your stop, no?” I asked him as an amused smile sat on my lips.“Yeah, but I was enjoying talking to you,” He chuckled, and then wiggled his eyebrows.“Do you have a crush on me or something?” I joked, and the man laughed. “Or something. I may like you and what have done for this city but not the kind of like that develops into a crush.” “What have I done for the city?” We were holding on to the elevator just to talk and it seemed so amusing to me. “I’m just a she-wolf who’s engaged to the king.”“Number one, you’re not just anybody. You seriously have no idea what you have done for this city, do you?” John asked me. The look on his face let me know that he was serious. As I was about to speak, he stopped me politely. “You know what? I think we have held up the elevator lo
I sat at the table and allowed myself to process the information. Zayn and Bunny have lived in Demon Territory their whole lives. In fact, Zayn was the one that built this city. So when they’re telling me this, I think I should at least try to listen. “Okay,” I said in a breathy way but they all heard me. “Okay, what?” They all asked at the same time and I chuckled lowly. “I will do what you all are advising. I would stay away from Julia. But before I do that, I need to know the full story.” I intertwined my fingers on the shiny wood table. “Do you want me to tell the story?” Bunny asked Zayn and he nodded slowly.“Only if you feel comfortable.” “It was a few years ago. Zayn was still consumed by his hatred for the werewolf people and I was still traumatized from thinking that I had lost my brother.” Bunny began, and she glanced at Hamish when she mentioned him. A grateful look covered her face.“Julia approached us and told us the saddest sob story yet. She then offered to help
I waited for Julia to speak while I watched her every move. If she almost took down Bunny at one time in the past, then there was no way I was going to underestimate her. “I’m here because although I may be able to see the future and stuff, I am not able to see emotions or sense how one feels. If you know what I mean.” She brushes her thumb on her nose. “I know. You can see the future and sometimes that makes you feel like a god, but you have a limitation and that humbles you: you can not see what is in the heart of another.” I explained, and she nodded slowly.“I guess that’s about right. You hit the nail on the head.”“I still don’t get why you’re here and what it has to do with me.” I stared at her as I spoke nonchalantly.“Zayn, Bunny, and Hamish explained some story about me and told you to stay away from me. And I won’t lie to you, Lara. The story was true. But I had my reasons.” “Okay, Julia. Good for you. But again, why are you here? Because I really did not come to work th
“Come on, guys. You have Lara and me out here waiting like kids waiting to open up gifts on Christmas morning!” Zayn exclaimed, causing everyone to laugh. The door suddenly opened by itself and my eyes widened mildly. “Did that door just open by itself?” I took a step back, and Ashton and Zoe were amused by my reaction. The door opened wider and a golden retriever jumped out of the car, almost giving me a heart attack. “Gosh!” I exclaimed as I held Zayn’s arm tightly. “I’m not going to lie, I was a bit startled when that dog came out.” Zayn laughed lightly. “So that’s the surprise, huh? A doggie.” Zayn bend down and played with the dog. I had a small fear of dogs. One bit me when I was a kid and since then I have been terrified of them. No matter how cute and cuddly they were, I stayed my distance away from them. The golden retriever kept licking and jumping on Zayn like it had known him for years. “The doggie is a surprise but not for you guys, he’s for the kids.” Ashton
It was Christmas day, the 25th of December. Werewolves were howling in celebration even though it was the sun that was up. Carols were being played and families were together. The air was warm, the sky was crystal blue, and the day was perfect. Where did the Werewolf Territory take the concept of Christmas when we believed in the Moon goddess? We adopted it thousands of years ago when humans once lived amongst us. They celebrated our holidays and so we did the same, as a show of respect. That was when the word Christmas entered the vocabulary of the Werewolf Territory. And since then, we have celebrated the day and passed on the tradition from generation to generation. The Christmas tree in the living room was lit up and gifts were scattered under it. All the kids were up and sat eagerly next to their presents, waiting for us to give them the go-ahead to start opening up them. The air was filled with anticipation and joy. A hot cup of chocolate sat in my hand and Zayn was drinki
My claws immediately sprang forth from underneath my fingernails, and a growl escaped my mouth. “What the hell are you doing here? You should be in prison.” I was on the verge of wolfing out. It was not like I felt threatened by Jacob, but I did not like the fact that he was in our mansion without us even knowing. The kids were literally right across the hall from there. “Please. Please calm down and let me explain,” He begged. He placed the box of chocolate on the kitchen island and took a step toward us.“Not another step, buddy. I won’t hesitate to rip you to pieces.” Zayn threatened him, and he gulped as he nodded. My wolf had not gotten any real action for a while and it was yearning for some. I usually trained in the training room with Zoe and the others almost every Saturday though my wolf wanted more. “Start explaining.” I breathed out a short sigh as I continued to keep my wolf at bay.“Okay. Okay. But first, promise not to kick me out, please?” His eyes were pleading. I
‘You can’t save me, she-wolf.’ The words echoed in my head as I stared into Alex’s sad eyes. He looked convinced that he was beyond saving and that seemed to scare me a bit. He was too sure.“But at least let me try,” I begged him. He scoffed. “What are you even going to do? Bring my wife back?” He rose to his feet. “For now, Lara, just let me try to figure out the journey I’m on emotionally. I will go back to my pack…eventually.” “Okay.” I did not push him. And he did have a point. What was I going to do to save him? I was not a superhero. I did not have special powers. I was just a she-wolf that cared deeply for people. And apparently, that was called a hero mentality; wanting to help everyone to the point where sometimes I didn’t even regard myself. Alex may have said it while he was lashing out but I think he was right: He had been a leader way longer than I had. I may have been queen but that was just a nice coating, deep inside, I was still an omega. “It’s kind of late, I th

A few seconds of silence filled the home theatre because the cartoon could not play forever, obviously. The projector was now off and the fancy inbuild lights on the ceiling were on. Alex sat next to me and played with his fingers nervously. He looked slightly uncomfortable but a look of determination also could be seen on his face. “For starters, I have two questions.” I began, and he turned his full attention to me. “Shoot.”“First one is what you mean when you said that I have earned the right or privilege to ask you about anything?” I raised one of my eyebrows. He smiled weakly. “Lara, you have become family. You have proven to me that you can be trusted and that you are willing to go through hell to protect my son. Do we have to do the whole ‘I am a blessing’ stuff over again?” He chuckled, and I could not help but laugh lightly. “No, thank you,” I refused as I continued to laugh. “That is why I came back here after I lashed out at you. You did not deserve that; you have be
I sat down next to Alex and the smell of his cologne filled my nose. It was a strong scent but I really liked it though. The black-and-white cartoon playing on the projector was aesthetically pleasing. It reminded me of the past. Not just any past, or mine. But like the 1960s. Weird because I was not even alive at that time but that was the vibe I got from looking at Mickey Mouse doing funny dances while in black-and-white color. “You said you wanted to talk?” Alex smiled weakly as intrigue smeared his facial features. He was wearing a hoodie that looked great on him. If we were not about to talk about serious matters, I would have asked him where he got it. “Yeah, but you go first. What do you want to talk about?” I adjusted myself in my seat and made myself comfortable enough. My attention was trained on him as I awaited him to speak. “You sure?” “Yeah, go ahead.” I encouraged him. I was curious as to what he wanted to talk to me about. But I already knew what I wanted to talk
I crossed my legs and watched Gene and Zayn sip lemonade from the glasses that were brought by the male helper. I was very invested in Gene’s backstory. I wanted to know more. “You have not touched your lemonade, dear,” Gene pointed out and we both glanced at the tall glass that was filled with the yellowy-sugary drink. “Her teeth hurt when she drinks lemonade,” Zayn explained politely, and I smiled involuntarily. He placed his hand over mine on the couch and a warm feeling filled my chest. “Sorry,” I mouthed to Gene but she brushed me off lightly. “Oh, that’s alright. You should have told me.” She crossed her legs too. “Would you like me to send for water?” “No, it’s okay. Don’t trouble yourself.” I played with the tips of my hair. “You said that the Silver Moon pack has unspoken laws?” “Uh, yeah. Laws that have been passed down from generation to generation. It’s not written and posted somewhere but it’s in the hearts of all the inhabitants of Rocky. I learned about those laws
Smiles. Laughter. Joy. A lightness filled the air as Alex got out of the detective’s car. Snow fell from the sky and soon made white patches on his hair. His face was flushed and he had a smile so bright, that it could light up a dark night. The light humming of the car lingered in the air, and detective Stone and her wife got out of the car seconds later with cheerful looks on their faces. Bunny and the others joined us outside and Liam was out of words when his eyes landed on his dad. He glanced at me and his lips parted in disbelief. “Thank you,” He mouthed, and then turned his attention back to Alex. Liam watched his dad approach him and his eyes became glossy as they threatened to spill tears. He kept clenching and unclenching his jaw, and I could tell that he was trying his best to stop himself from crying. When Alex closed the distance between him and his son, they hugged each other tightly, and the scene made me teary. Zayn wrapped his right arm around my torso and pulled
