It was now the next morning and I made small movements on the soft mattress as I opened my eyes slowly. I adjusted my head on the comfy puffy pillow under me as sleep fled further away from my eyes. It was a new day and I felt renewed. My lower body was still under the gray duvet and Zayn was snoring right beside me. He was shirtless and his mouth was open slightly. Even in sleep, he still looked really good-looking. When I glanced at the alarm clock by the bedside, I saw that it was seven a.m. Birds were chirping and the beams of the sun ray shone through our thin curtains. It was a beautiful morning. The air was cold but not as cold as last night. It was now a comfortable kind of cold. The one where people built snowmen and made snow angels. It was the kind of cold where people threw snowballs at each other and enjoyed the brilliance of winter together. I sat up and dragged my body off the bed. When I stood up, I yawned and walked toward the bathroom. There was something abo
I reached for Liam’s hand and led him a few feet away from the kids before letting him go. The sun was up but cold air still filled the atmosphere. He had a hard expression on his face and pain swirled in his eyes. “Liam, you can not do that.” He chuckled. “Yeah. Yeah, I can.” “I mean, this is not the way out. Yeah, you’re pissed at your dad for lying to you but it was not like he didn’t love your mom and purposely killed her in that accident,” I explained to him, and a look of vulnerability crossed his face for a second before disappearing. “It’s because of him she’s dead, Lara.” His voice broke. “If he was not jealous over her secretary which was all for nothing, I would still have my mom with me. And he was jealous all for nothing. For absolutely nothing.” His eyes were now glossy. “I know. I know.” I tried to touch him in an attempt of comforting him but he pulled away. “Liam, trust me, you do not want to report your dad to the police. He’s the only family you have.” Liam sho
My heart was pounding and my palms were sweaty. Anxiety tortured me and as much as I tried, I could not swallow up my nerves. Zayn and I led the detective into the house as breakfast was being served by the helpers. Friendly chatter could be heard and the chandeliers hanging emitted light gracefully even though it was in the day. Serenity and the others were already at the dining table. Only Liam and the kids were missing. But right now, I was more focused on the major development that the detective talked about earlier on the porch. Did it have to do with Liam and me? I noticed the look of suspicion that I got from the detective. “Hi, everyone. I think most of you know who I am, I’m the detective overseeing the current hit-and-run investigation.” Detective Stone introduced herself once we were in the dining area. “Yeah, we remember you. You were the one that wanted to put me away.” Bunny stared at the detective coldly and tension swirled in the air. “But you ended up putting
The sounds of forks and knives gently hitting plates were heard in the dining area as everyone ate. Well, everyone but Liam, detective Stone, and me. From the floor-to-ceiling windows not far from where we were, I could see that it was starting to snow again. But the cold was the least of my worries right now. As I said, I did not have any appetite, I needed to know where the detective was going with this. So I paid not much attention to the wonderful dish in front of me, even though I enjoyed chef Gus’s meals a ton. This was not good for Liam or me. They had found the car's make and model; to make matters worse, only three people including Liam had that kind of car registered to them. It was only a matter of time before they had him questioned. In fact, sooner than later. Liam’s eyes were filled with worry and when he heard the detective call his name, he inhaled sharply. “Liam Harding?” Julia's face twisted in confusion. She was sitting next to Liam. She turned in his direction
Snow. Christmas trees. Stockings. Lights. Gingerbread men. And busted cars. Those were the things that reminded me that we were getting closer to Christmas. The busted yellow sportscar that was sitting in the storage area had a thin layer of dust on it. The windshield was damaged and the front had a dent in it, along with a broken headlight. Even though the car was damaged, it still looked impressively good. If it was not for that headlight that broke during the hit, the detective wouldn’t have been on our backs. But I guess justice always found a way, and we were just getting what we deserved. “What the actual f*ck?” Ashton exclaimed. He scoffed in disbelief and walked closer to the car, inspecting it in the process. “Holy cow, it was you two. You guys were the ones that hit that guy.” Zoe sounded shocked and also worried. “Oh my god, oh my god.” She started to panic. “Lara, you can’t go to prison again. You can’t.” Her voice broke. Serenity pulled her close and comforted her.
Ashton walked away from the car and nodded in agreement with Bunny. “She’s right, the car is not the same color. It would be very risky. Liam is a teenager, he must have pictures of him and his car online anyway. I’m sure of that.”Liam nodded. “I posted a lot of pictures of myself online in that car so anyone with a phone would know that I have a yellow sportscar by just searching for me on social media. So yeah, the color is important.”“Okay, so that’s out of the plan. We can’t use the car that Zayn has even though it’s the same make and model.” I was getting a bit frustrated. “So what do we do? Buy a new car? A car like that would cost more than 200k.” Zoe ran her hands through her hair. That was way too expensive. We were wealthy but we were not multi-millionaires. We did not have money to just throw around like that. I mean, I had enough savings to cover that but I did not particularly like the idea of spending half of it on a sportscar. Though it was for me and Liam’s good.
I was wearing a second layer of a jacket and was prepared for going into the cold at 12 a.m. I was sitting next to Zayn on the couch and we all were watching a rom-com. I may have been looking at the screen of the flat-screen TV, but I was not actually watching the movie.I was more focused on what we were going to be doing by 12 a.m., Zayn and I. I kept glancing at the clock hanging on the wall every minute. It was only ten p.m. now. Ashton and Liam bought the car. It was a little over the price but they paid for it anyway. We needed it and did not have much of a choice, even if that meant that we were cheated. The brand new sportscar was now parked next door, in the garage. We tried our best to make the car look not as new as it actually was. If it appeared too new, it would raise suspicions during the inspection.A knock sounded at the door and I was startled. The sound came again and I glanced at the clock once more before standing to my feet. “I will get it.” I walked out of th
The road had an eerie feel. Trees were on both sides and the snow falling made it look more creepy. Zayn drove us a bit deeper and soon came to a stop. He parked off the road and unlocked the car. He sighed and looked at me. “Are you alright? You look spooked.” I smiled faintly. “It’s just that this place got chills running down my spine.” He chuckled lowly and opened his side of the door. “Don’t let Zoe get to your head. There are no such things as ghosts so this road can’t possibly be haunted.” He got out of the car. I opened my side of the car and stepped out. “You’re a demon. You didn’t grow up in Beacon so I understand your lack of belief or fear.” I brushed some strands of my hair behind my ears. “So many people have gone missing here. You don’t even know half of it.” Zayn got the things out from the back of the car. It was a medium-sized red gallon, some gloves, and a lighter. “So you’re seriously trying to tell me that the Moon goddess snatches anyone that comes here?
“Come on, guys. You have Lara and me out here waiting like kids waiting to open up gifts on Christmas morning!” Zayn exclaimed, causing everyone to laugh. The door suddenly opened by itself and my eyes widened mildly. “Did that door just open by itself?” I took a step back, and Ashton and Zoe were amused by my reaction. The door opened wider and a golden retriever jumped out of the car, almost giving me a heart attack. “Gosh!” I exclaimed as I held Zayn’s arm tightly. “I’m not going to lie, I was a bit startled when that dog came out.” Zayn laughed lightly. “So that’s the surprise, huh? A doggie.” Zayn bend down and played with the dog. I had a small fear of dogs. One bit me when I was a kid and since then I have been terrified of them. No matter how cute and cuddly they were, I stayed my distance away from them. The golden retriever kept licking and jumping on Zayn like it had known him for years. “The doggie is a surprise but not for you guys, he’s for the kids.” Ashton
It was Christmas day, the 25th of December. Werewolves were howling in celebration even though it was the sun that was up. Carols were being played and families were together. The air was warm, the sky was crystal blue, and the day was perfect. Where did the Werewolf Territory take the concept of Christmas when we believed in the Moon goddess? We adopted it thousands of years ago when humans once lived amongst us. They celebrated our holidays and so we did the same, as a show of respect. That was when the word Christmas entered the vocabulary of the Werewolf Territory. And since then, we have celebrated the day and passed on the tradition from generation to generation. The Christmas tree in the living room was lit up and gifts were scattered under it. All the kids were up and sat eagerly next to their presents, waiting for us to give them the go-ahead to start opening up them. The air was filled with anticipation and joy. A hot cup of chocolate sat in my hand and Zayn was drinki
My claws immediately sprang forth from underneath my fingernails, and a growl escaped my mouth. “What the hell are you doing here? You should be in prison.” I was on the verge of wolfing out. It was not like I felt threatened by Jacob, but I did not like the fact that he was in our mansion without us even knowing. The kids were literally right across the hall from there. “Please. Please calm down and let me explain,” He begged. He placed the box of chocolate on the kitchen island and took a step toward us.“Not another step, buddy. I won’t hesitate to rip you to pieces.” Zayn threatened him, and he gulped as he nodded. My wolf had not gotten any real action for a while and it was yearning for some. I usually trained in the training room with Zoe and the others almost every Saturday though my wolf wanted more. “Start explaining.” I breathed out a short sigh as I continued to keep my wolf at bay.“Okay. Okay. But first, promise not to kick me out, please?” His eyes were pleading. I
‘You can’t save me, she-wolf.’ The words echoed in my head as I stared into Alex’s sad eyes. He looked convinced that he was beyond saving and that seemed to scare me a bit. He was too sure.“But at least let me try,” I begged him. He scoffed. “What are you even going to do? Bring my wife back?” He rose to his feet. “For now, Lara, just let me try to figure out the journey I’m on emotionally. I will go back to my pack…eventually.” “Okay.” I did not push him. And he did have a point. What was I going to do to save him? I was not a superhero. I did not have special powers. I was just a she-wolf that cared deeply for people. And apparently, that was called a hero mentality; wanting to help everyone to the point where sometimes I didn’t even regard myself. Alex may have said it while he was lashing out but I think he was right: He had been a leader way longer than I had. I may have been queen but that was just a nice coating, deep inside, I was still an omega. “It’s kind of late, I th

A few seconds of silence filled the home theatre because the cartoon could not play forever, obviously. The projector was now off and the fancy inbuild lights on the ceiling were on. Alex sat next to me and played with his fingers nervously. He looked slightly uncomfortable but a look of determination also could be seen on his face. “For starters, I have two questions.” I began, and he turned his full attention to me. “Shoot.”“First one is what you mean when you said that I have earned the right or privilege to ask you about anything?” I raised one of my eyebrows. He smiled weakly. “Lara, you have become family. You have proven to me that you can be trusted and that you are willing to go through hell to protect my son. Do we have to do the whole ‘I am a blessing’ stuff over again?” He chuckled, and I could not help but laugh lightly. “No, thank you,” I refused as I continued to laugh. “That is why I came back here after I lashed out at you. You did not deserve that; you have be
I sat down next to Alex and the smell of his cologne filled my nose. It was a strong scent but I really liked it though. The black-and-white cartoon playing on the projector was aesthetically pleasing. It reminded me of the past. Not just any past, or mine. But like the 1960s. Weird because I was not even alive at that time but that was the vibe I got from looking at Mickey Mouse doing funny dances while in black-and-white color. “You said you wanted to talk?” Alex smiled weakly as intrigue smeared his facial features. He was wearing a hoodie that looked great on him. If we were not about to talk about serious matters, I would have asked him where he got it. “Yeah, but you go first. What do you want to talk about?” I adjusted myself in my seat and made myself comfortable enough. My attention was trained on him as I awaited him to speak. “You sure?” “Yeah, go ahead.” I encouraged him. I was curious as to what he wanted to talk to me about. But I already knew what I wanted to talk
I crossed my legs and watched Gene and Zayn sip lemonade from the glasses that were brought by the male helper. I was very invested in Gene’s backstory. I wanted to know more. “You have not touched your lemonade, dear,” Gene pointed out and we both glanced at the tall glass that was filled with the yellowy-sugary drink. “Her teeth hurt when she drinks lemonade,” Zayn explained politely, and I smiled involuntarily. He placed his hand over mine on the couch and a warm feeling filled my chest. “Sorry,” I mouthed to Gene but she brushed me off lightly. “Oh, that’s alright. You should have told me.” She crossed her legs too. “Would you like me to send for water?” “No, it’s okay. Don’t trouble yourself.” I played with the tips of my hair. “You said that the Silver Moon pack has unspoken laws?” “Uh, yeah. Laws that have been passed down from generation to generation. It’s not written and posted somewhere but it’s in the hearts of all the inhabitants of Rocky. I learned about those laws
Smiles. Laughter. Joy. A lightness filled the air as Alex got out of the detective’s car. Snow fell from the sky and soon made white patches on his hair. His face was flushed and he had a smile so bright, that it could light up a dark night. The light humming of the car lingered in the air, and detective Stone and her wife got out of the car seconds later with cheerful looks on their faces. Bunny and the others joined us outside and Liam was out of words when his eyes landed on his dad. He glanced at me and his lips parted in disbelief. “Thank you,” He mouthed, and then turned his attention back to Alex. Liam watched his dad approach him and his eyes became glossy as they threatened to spill tears. He kept clenching and unclenching his jaw, and I could tell that he was trying his best to stop himself from crying. When Alex closed the distance between him and his son, they hugged each other tightly, and the scene made me teary. Zayn wrapped his right arm around my torso and pulled
