A few months later, I was startled awake by the sound of heavy foot traffic coming from outside my room, 'What the hell's going on out there?!'

Before I could guess what was happening outside, three maids rushed into my room. Two of them went to my closet and jewellery case and started going through my dresses and accessories, while the other came over to me and picked me up.

My head was starting to spin from everything, 'Why are these maids in my room?!? Normally, Crimson's the one who comes and picks me up!'

When the maid saw I was looking confused and concerned, she said to me, "Please don't worry, young Miss, the Duchess is busy setting up for today's ball, so she didn't have time to prepare to collect you herself."

Her words caught me off guard, 'She's busy with a ball? She's always put off all her work to spend time with me in the past. So this must be for something important.'

The two maids picked out a matching dress and accessory for me while the maid carrying me changed me into them. After they were done, the maid who changed my clothes took me to the dining room.

The room was much like the sitting area that Walter and my brothers spent a lot of time in; only this room was half the size and was around 30% table with how large the table was.

The maid placed me inside my highchair before standing back and ringing a small bell she had in her pocket, and almost right after she rang it, a butler entered the room holding a silver tray in his right hand. He put the tray on the table before me and then left the room.

Then, the maid walked back beside me, lifted the bowl off the tray, and put it in front of me. She then took the spoon provided with it and started trying to feed me.

I tried my hardest not to eat it. I even managed to knock the spoon out of her hand. The maid pulled a dishearted expression while she grabbed a second spoon from the tray, "Please, miss, you have to eat your meal. Otherwise, I'll be in trouble with the Duchess."

Seeing her sad expression, I reluctantly started eating it, 'This baby food is gross... I thought that when I was old enough to live off of anything other than this, they would give me real food, but they still give me this! It's nothing but white mush with an ok taste and terrible texture! I wish I could have chicken. Or any meat for that matter...!'

I forced each spoonful down as they kept coming in endless waves. Thankfully, before long, I managed to finish the bowl, but I felt slightly sick from how much I didn't like it, the maid pulled out the little bell again and rang it, and the butler came back into the room and took away the empty bowl and tray.

As he left the room, Crimson walked in after him. When I saw her, I reacted before I even had time to think, "Mommy!"

Within moments I realised what I had just said, 'I didn't think and just blurted out my first word! When did I start to think of her as Mom and not Crimson?'

Crimson and the maid stood there entirely still as if they had turned to stone from shock. Then, managing to snap out of it, Crimson ran over to me and kneed beside me with stars in her eyes, "Say it again! Say, Mommy!"

I felt utterly embarrassed by what I had just said, and Crimson only made that worse by asking me to repeat what I had said. However, seeing Crimson's smiling face while she waited to hear me speak again made my resolve to stay silent waver. Reluctantly, I smiled through my embarrassment and repeated myself, "Mommy!"

Crimson made a weird squeal of joy after hearing me repeat it. Then, she quickly picked me up from my highchair and rushed out of the room with me, "We have to go and show Walter!"

I quickly regretted repeating myself, 'Why did I have to repeat it?! Now she's gone crazy...again...'

Before long, we arrived at the training ground. Walter was giving Dan a magic lesson. Crimson, without hesitation, called to him, "Walter! I have something amazing to show you!"

Interested in what she had to show, Walter, paused Dan's lesson and walked over to us while Dan watched and listened from a distance out of curiosity. Standing before us, he asked, "What is it you wanted to show me?"

Crimson smiled intensely, "Sash, could you show Daddy?"

I huffed at her request but ended up obliging her, "Mommy."

Walter looked shocked at the sound of me talking, "That's wonderful! Can you also say, Daddy?"

The idea of calling him that felt 10x more embarrassing than saying Mommy, but I still replied, "Mommy!"

"Not Mommy, Daddy..."

"Mommy!"

Walter started to look less than pleased that I wouldn't say it. Crimson giggled at the situation, "Don't worry, I'm sure she'll say it eventually! I spend more time with her, so it's not surprising that she said Mommy first."

Walter didn't look convinced by her words, "What do you mean? I spend most days personally teaching her how to change forms and fly. I spend plenty of time with her."

Crimson simply agreed to move the conversation on, "You're right. Either way, I'm sure she'll call you Daddy soon!"

Walter started to sulk a little and looked away in a huff. Crimson couldn't help but smile nervously, "Anyway, I've done most of the important preparations for the ball later. I've left the rest of the setup to the maids."

"You always do an amazing job creating decor for events. I look forward to seeing it."

A couple of hours later, we headed down to the ballroom. I hadn't been there since I was reborn into this world, and the room seemed almost like a repeat of the first time. It looked like there were just as many people as last time. Only the decorations were different.

As I looked at the decorations, I could see what Walter was talking about when he said Crimson created amazing events. All the decorations were perfectly placed and looked fantastic.

As we walked to the ballroom stairs, the events after that played out almost the same as my first ball. Walter took Crimson and me to nearly the top of the stairs, where he started to give a small speech.

"Thank you all for attending my birthday celebration today. I'm grateful that you all accepted the invitation. I would also like to thank my wife for organising and designing the decor for today's ball. Thanks to her, the venue today is immaculate. I hope you all enjoy the celebration and have a great evening!"

We started to head down the stairs, and halfway down, I was thinking about his speech, 'So today's Dad's birthday? Why am I only finding out now? You would think someone would have mentioned it around me before now. This looks like it took at least a month or two to plan...'

When we got to the bottom of the stairs, Walter got swarmed by aristocrats. I couldn't help but feel a strong sense of Deja Vu, 'With this crowd at the bottom of the stairs, it feels like I'm reliving my first ball...'

Much like last time, one of the aristocrats stepped forward and talked to Walter. It was Marquis Laseus again, "It's nice to see you again, Duke. May you have a blessed day! If I recall, today marks your 371st birthday."

My shock at hearing Walter's age was huge, 'Did he just say 371!? How long do dragons live?! That must be why he keeps telling me he won't let me get married until I turn 300...' When looking at the Marquis, Walter had contempt for him in his expression, "Thank you, Marquis Laseus, and yes, I turned 371 today. Now, excuse me, I have some other business to attend to."

After saying that, Walter went to walk away from the conversation. Noticing this, the Marquis quickly acted, "Duke, before you leave, I would like to bring up the topic of your daughter's future marriage again! You mentioned last time that you didn't feel it appropriate to discuss it since she was only a day old. However, since she's now six months old, would you be willing to discuss it now?"

I couldn't help but feel annoyed hearing him talk, 'Why is this guy so obsessed with me marrying his son!'

Walter gave him a death stare at hearing the topic he brought up, "Marquis. Never bring this topic up again."

Seeing Walter's fierce glare and hearing his tone drained the colour from the Marquis's face. After that, Walter continued walking away from him with Crimson and me.

Feeling the tension in the air from Walter's bad mood, I tried to think of what I could do to calm him down, 'He gets like this every time someone mentions the idea of me getting married. Obviously, I don't want to marry any noblemen's sons. That would just be weird! But I need to figure out a way to calm him down when this happens.'

As I tried to think, an idea suddenly popped into my head, but it wasn't an idea I was too happy with. So, ignoring my personal feelings, I decided to put my plan into motion to try and get rid of that scary expression on Walter's face.

I reached out and just about managed to grab Walter's sleeve. When I did, he looked over at me, "What is it, Sash?"

I smiled at him, pushed past my resistance, and blurted out, "Daddy!"

Walter's scary expression quickly disappeared as though it was never there. Instead, it was replaced with a look of pure shock, "Say that again..."

I couldn't help but feel embarrassed at his request to hear it again. I almost shouted it out again to fight my embarrassment, "Daddy!"

Walter looked at me with a pleased expression. Then, he leaned over and kissed my forehead, then continued walking, "Let's continue on. We have a lot of important guests to greet."

I couldn't stop myself from going bloodred from him kissing my forehead, 'He might be scary, like 80% of the time, but I'm actually happy he's my Dad.'

The rest of the event mainly consisted of greeting almost everyone who had attended the ball, but at one point, Crimson handed me over to a maid for a little while and had a dance with Walter. Later that day, Walter insisted on putting me to bed that night and personally took me back to my room.

The following day I was sitting on Walter's lap while he was reading documents in his office. While going through them, he paused when he saw a letter with a gold seal. Walter carefully opened the letter, and after he finished reading it, he rang a small bell on his desk, and a butler came into the room, "Yes, sir?" "Please inform the Duchess to bring Tom and Dan to the living room and wait for me. I have an important announcement." "Right away, sir." The butler exited the room, and Walter lifted me up and carried me out of the room with him. After a couple of minutes, we arrived at the living room, where Walter sat down, put me back on his lap, and waited for Crimson and my brothers to arrive. We didn't have to wait long for them to arrive. The three of them entered the room after just a minute of waiting. They all took a seat in front of where Walter was sitting and waited for him to talk. Taking a deep breath, Walter looked out at them, "I've received a letter from the king sum

With how late it was, we all rested for the rest of the day. The next day Walter left early in the morning with a guard for his audience with the king. The guard escorted him straight to the king's throne room. When there, the guards in front opened the doors and allowed him inside. Walking into the throne room, Walter knelt before the king with his head bowed. The king smiled at Walter, "There's no need for formalities between us; feel free to be informal with me." Walter got to his feet and thanked the king, "Thank you for your consideration, your Majesty, but respectfully, I would prefer to show proper respect to you." "Very well, I won't force you to do something you're uncomfortable with. Now, let's get to the matter I summoned you for. You may have guessed already, but I called you here about your brother, Peter Hastus." "May I ask what my brother has done, your Majesty?" "It saddens me to say this, but he committed high treason." Walter was shocked by what he heard, with a

A few months later, I was woken up by Crimson's voice, "Sash, you have to wake up! Don't you know what day it is? You can't sleep in today of all days!" I tried to ignore Crimson as best I could and pulled my blanket over my head, 'I don't care what day it is... I just want to sleep, so leave me alone! I'm trying to be depressed still...' Crimson pulled an exhausted face, "Sash, you remember it's your first birthday today, right? Don't forget you have your birthday party later today, and everyone will be there!" I didn't budge and kept trying to sleep, but Crimson didn't give up, "I guess you won't want all the presents everyone will be bringing with them. What a shame... I guess we'll have to give them away..." Hearing her say that, I couldn't stay still anymore. So I sprang out from under my blanket, giving Crimson a big smile, "Mommy!" Crimson couldn't hold back her laughter at my reaction, "Don't you wanna keep sleeping?" I shook my head while responding to her question, "Now

Later that day, Crimson took me back to my room to prepare me for the party. She changed my dress to one of the more fancy ones she kept hidden away for special occasions like today. But, despite putting me in one of her favourite dresses for me, Crimson still seemed upset by what happened with Dan earlier. 'That misunderstanding with Dan really has her upset still. Not even my adorable face is working to fix her anymore. All I can do is hope that the party can cheer her up. But just in case, I should keep trying to force my cuteness on her!' While Crimson was carrying me to put me in my pushchair, I could see how sad she was by the look on her face. So I decided to give cheering her up one last try before we left for the party. Before she put me down, I pulled myself up a little higher towards her face and kissed her cheek. After I did, she looked at me with a surprised look. Then, I simply gave her another big smile, "Love, yow!" Crimson finally smiled again with a slight chuckle

  • A Dragons Heart   The play date

A couple of days later, Crimson received a letter from Clair inviting her to go over to her family estate, just as she had mentioned the day before. After reading the letter, Crimson came bursting through the living room door where I was spending time with Walter. Walter and I were startled by her dramatic entrance. Walter just about managed to push his shock aside to ask her, "What's got you so excited?!" Crimson's face was beaming with excitement, "Sash got an invitation to go on a play date from Lady Clair Kalious!" "The Barons Daughter? Why would Sash receive an invitation from the Kalious family?" "We met at Sash's party the other day. She has a two-year-old daughter that I think would make the perfect friend for Sash, and Lady Kalious agreed with me, not to mention that Sash seems to really like her!" "If that's the case, when are you planning to visit?" "I was hoping to take her the day after tomorrow!" "She has a lesson with me in the morning on that day. So you'll have

Time started to fly by, and before I knew it, I was already two. Since that time at the greenhouse where Crimson and Dan had a falling out, Dan had become increasingly distant from Crimson and me. But at the same time, my friendship with Tasha only grew from our first time meeting. So as I slowly got better at talking, I could speak to her a little more about everything that was going on and try to get her opinion on a couple of things from time to time. Because of how close we had gotten, she started coming for near-daily visits to my family estate after we moved in. While I was sitting in the living room with Crimson, a maid entered, "Excuse me, miss, Lady Clair and her daughter are here." "Tell Lady Clair to meet me in the parlour and escort her daughter to the tea room with Sasha." "Yes, miss." I followed the maid and waited in the tea room for Tasha. Finally, after a couple of minutes of waiting, Tasha burst into the room with her usual dramatic flair, "Sash!" She rushed to

When I woke up the next day, all my clothes had been changed while I was asleep. When I looked around the room, I saw Crimson sleeping on my bed with me so she could stay with me during the night. Looking at her, I noticed Dan was sleeping behind her on the chair next to my bed. I found it impressive that he managed to fall asleep sitting up. Knowing that they both stayed with me throughout the day and during the night made me feel happy, 'They keep surprising me. I don't think I'll ever get used to how much they care for me, but I'm glad to have it.' I shuffled closer to Crimson, hugged her, and went back to sleep. Crimson put her arms around me in her sleep as I did and cuddled me back. Later that day, while I was still recovering in bed, Tasha visited me out of the blue. She was noticeably upset went she barged through the door, "Sash!" She ran over and leapt at me, latching onto me with a hug, "I heard you were hurt really bad! We didn't have to wait long before a waiter came to our table with a three-tiered dessert tray with all our cakes on it and some cookies we didn't order, so I asked, "Why are there cookies too?" The waiter put the large tray tower on the table before answering, "These are complimentary for new customers! Please enjoy!" The waiter quickly left, and Tasha looked very happy to get free food, "I like this place even more now!" I smiled at how giddy she got over free cookies, "Yeah, me too!" As we each took a piece of cake and a fork, I noticed Tasha's maid and the two guards sitting beside us with nothing, "Didn't you order anything for yourself?" "No, miss, I'm only here to ensure you're both safe!" "What about you two?" The one guard answered for the both of them, "thank you for your consideration, Miss Sasha, but we're only here to keep guard." After the guard left, the king looked at Terry and me, "You should bring her up here and let her rest on the crown princess's throne." Terry looked at the king, surprised, "Are you sure, your majesty?" "Of course I am. My son has troubled her greatly. It's the least I can do." Terry then made his way up the stairs and placed me down on the throne beside the king. Once I was sat down, I said to the king, "Thank you." After an hour, the guard returned with two other guards dragging Larry by the arms, wearing special shackles that prevented him from using mana, casting spells, or changing forms. The two guards dragged Larry up to the king and dropped him to his knees. Larry looked up at the king and asked, "Father, what's the meaning of this?!" Without realising it, Larry's eyes were still in their pink state for the king to see, "I can see you actually had pink eyes this whole time." Larry then realised his mistake, "That's beside the point! Why have you ordered your guards to put

Over the next month, the guards set up the barrier like Larry told them to, which kept me from collecting the mana in the air. Finally, after that month was over, it came that time when Larry would normally give me some small amount of food. One of the guards in front of my cell received a call from Larry. When he finished talking, he turned to me and said, "His Highness said he won't be able to make it until later today, and because of your previous attempt to escape, he won't be bringing you this month's ration." I let out an amused huff, "He barely feeds me already. So why do I care if he misses one?" The guard didn't respond and turned back around to continue standing guard. Finally, after a few hours, it came time for the guards to change, but no one came in to relieve the current guard. After a few minutes of waiting, the guards in front of my cell became restless, "The next shift should be here by now. Those two in the evening shift are normally more punctual than this." "J

You really think I'll cave after a month?" Larry smiled at me, "I have to admit, I do admire your spirit. I think you've earned this much, at least." he ripped the bread in half and threw one of the halves into my cell at my feet, "I'll give you the other half next month." He then left the cave. I reached over, picked up the piece of bread he gave me, and took a small bite out of it, 'Tastes awful, but it's better than nothing. But I should ration it for the next month.' After taking just one bite, I put the bread down beside me and started practising my mana control, 'He said I can't use my mana, but what about the mana in the air?' Concentrating, I was able to see the faint gl

I was inside a cell built into the corner of a cave with guards standing just outside the door to the cell. Feeling groggy along with a headache, I took off my wig and mask and threw them on the ground, "What the hell happened? Where am I?" "You always ask a lot of questions, don't you?" I looked over to my left and saw the man in the crow mask standing outside the side of my cell, "Who are you? Are you the bastard that kidnapped my child?!" The man smiled as he took a few steps to the side, allowing me to see the rest of the cave. As I looked behind him, I saw a pedestal in the middle of the room with my egg on it, "My egg! What the hell do you want?!" "You never stop asking questions. That's something I really couldn't stand when we were together." "Just tell me who you are!" The man faced me

While we were still in Walter's office, I asked him, "Can we cast disguise spells on ourselves before we go to the masquerade?" "Spells like that will be broken the moment you walk into the castle. You'll have to wear a wig to hide your hair, but I'm not sure how we'll hide your eyes. Terry doesn't need to change his since magenta eyes are still relatively common among nobles, but pink eyes are rare enough that dragons will know any noble with them." "I can just change the colour of my eyes." "That won't work. Like I told you, spells like that will be broken when you walk into the castle." "Dad, I can change the colour of my eyes through my own will." Walter looked at me, confused, "What?" I leaned in towards Walter as I slowly changed my eye colour to grey, "I can change my eyes to resemble that of any natural dragon eye colour." "And this isn't a spell?" "No, it's one of a pink eye dragon's abilities, but it's apparently kept secret." "I can understand why. An ability like

While Terry and I were looking through documents in his office, I finished reading the one I had and threw it on the desk, "Nothing! I can't find a single thing that can help us!" "Sash, please, we'll find something. It'll just take time." "Terry, it's been nearly two months since our egg was taken from us. I want to get it back." "I do too, but we have time. The child won't hatch for nearly five years. So we have all that time to search." "From what I've seen, we're not even close. It's obvious after looking through all this these families didn't do it!" "Then we start again and look for something else to help us." "And how long will that take? I don't want to leave our child's life up to some ruthless bastards who stole it!" "Late in the evening yesterday, our estate was attacked, and our egg was kidnapped. Not being able to deal with it, Sash's shut down and hasn't said a word since yesterday." "I'll be there as fast as I can." After a while, Dan arrived at the estate, and Terry escorted him to our bedroom as he told him, "Like I told you, she's completely shut down and unresponsive." "If I'm being perfectly honest, I can't blame her. I wouldn't take it well if my children were kidnapped." When they entered the room, Dan walked over to me and started to check my state, "Sash, can you hear me?" I didn't respond or open my eyes. Terry then left me to calm down in the living room while he went upstairs to the incubation room. He looked around the room and couldn't find anything, only some scratches on the floor from where they had placed something heavy down, "Looks like I was right. They were smart enough to bring a transport box for the egg to keep it warm." He then went out of the room and checked on the guards. Unfortunately, they were all severely knocked out and
