He sat up slowly and swung his legs off the bed, ‘Fancy a walk? Need to blow away a few cobwebs’ I trotted by his side as we walked along the coastal road down onto the beach, it was a pleasant enough evening, only a slight breeze blowing in off the sea. As the sun set slowly ahead of us, we walked to the harbor and sat for half an hour watching the fishermen cleaning their boats ready for the morning tide. It was peaceful and relaxing and when the Commander rose to return to the house I was reluctant to follow him. ‘Come on Sirius, I’m ready for my dinner’ He grumbled and I noticed he was limping too, ‘Commander?’ ‘It’s nothing, Sirius, I’m just a bit stiff from all that sitting around’ I followed him home without another word, he would talk to me when he needed to I knew that. We continued with my tests for the next few days and the general consensus was that all my faculties had returned, and all of them had enhanced and improved. I worked with the Scientists on the projects they set designed to challenge me so that I could use my powers to help my country but more importantly, keep me hidden from our enemies. It wasn’t difficult for me, I completed each assignment using only a tiny amount of my abilities I kept my true potential hidden. It was an instinctive behavior, somehow I knew when I revealed how powerful I truly was even my own Government would be afraid. I also knew that if they became afraid of me they would seek to destroy me or at the very least keep me contained so they could do some of the terrible experiments I had witnessed them do on other creatures. I knew the extent of the cruelty the human race could inflict on animals because I had seen them inflict it on other humans. Their capacity to torture and find enjoyment in such pain on their own species left me in doubt of my fate should they ever discover my true worth.
A week later I was sat by the Commander as he sat on his favourite bench looking out at the sea, no matter what the weather he loved to watch the ever-changing vista before him, it calmed him and helped him think. The wind was picking up and the waves were crashing against the shore sending their spray high into the air he could feel it icy cold against his skin. Leaning back he closed his eyes and began the breathing exercises the Consultant had recommended, in hold, out hold, in hold, out hold, concentrating hard he relaxed his tense muscles. Then he opened his mind and called me to him, he wanted me to know the whole truth. I had fallen asleep curled on the floor beside him when I heard his voice, ‘It is time Sirius’ Lifting my head I sniffed the air assimilating the different scents quickly I stood and stretched, I knew what he wanted and sat up resting my silver head on his knee as he reached down and placed his hand on my head, ‘Thank you my friend’ He ruffled my ears and smiled at me, ‘We’ve had some good times haven’t we?’ I looked up at him and opened my mind to his, ‘We have had some wonderful times Commander, I owe my very existence to you’ I told him confidently but already I could sense what was to come, ‘Ahh Sirius, I’m so sorry I did not find you sooner. I did try old man, honestly, I did but they made it so difficult, they knew I was ill, tried to delay you, didn’t want me to get you back.’
He was rambling and I could see what a huge effort this was for him, I did the only thing I could and entered his mind fully and met with no resistance. This had never happened before the Commander always made me ask for permission but this time he opened his mind fully and it did not take me long to discover why. The cancer was everywhere I had to fight it at every turn but I knew it was making no difference to his outcome, ‘There’s no point Sirius, leave it, there is nothing you can do to stop it, I need to explain and time is short’ I rested my head back on his knee, anyone passing by would see an elderly man with his faithful dog, the perfect cover, ‘I’m listening Commander’ He sighed softly and in his mind, he opened the door that had always been locked to me. ‘You need to know this’ He told me quietly and ushered me before him.
‘It was more than sixty years ago’ He began, ‘British Intelligence received reports that the Russians were working on a scientific breakthrough involving animals, more specifically dogs. They already used animals in a lot of experiments, they had been sending them into space for years but what nobody was aware of was the Americans with the help of their closest Allies, [Us]. had also been sending animals into space. It was so secret only the American President the British Prime Minister and a few NASA scientists were aware of the program. They sent dogs on all those first missions but one dog, Jace, which is a name that some Americans have given to the Moon, was sent over and over again. They did many experiments on Jace and with Jace from all the written accounts of that time he was a very clever dog and it seems completely unaffected by his many trips into space.
They sent him up ten times, and it was on his last trip that something happened, it was pretty uneventful for the most part but it was the first time they had sent him around the Moon. In those days as the Capsule passed between the Sun and the Moon, it would hit a Black Spot where communication was lost briefly until it came back into view and headed back to Earth. Everything was progressing normally as the Capsule headed around the Moon and they gave Jace the command to sleep. He had been trained to do this to avoid getting stressed during lift-off and landing. NASA command thought nothing more of it as the Capsule entered the Black Spot and they lost contact with it. For the next two and half hours they waited patiently taking observations, completing tasks and paperwork following its trajectory back around towards Earth. Just before the Capsule came back online they noted a brief intensive flash of light that they attributed to a Solar Flare and thought nothing more of it as it appeared to pass harmlessly by. When the Capsule came back on-line the rest of the journey passed without any further incident and it landed at Edward’s Air Force Base exactly on time. It was only then they noticed it had actually been struck by the Solar Flare as a large dark streak covered one side of the Capsule. They ran multiple tests and found nothing the Capsule had not been damaged but when they opened it Jace was silent and still. They decided he had died when the Solar Flare struck the Capsule and it then re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere. He was taken to the Hospital Morgue Facility and a Vet was called to do a post-mortem on him. Unfortunately, he could not get there until the next day so Jace was placed in the Morgue’s refrigerated coffin holder and left until the Vet arrived. You can imagine their surprise when they arrived for work the next morning and found Jace curled up on one of their sofa looking none the worst from his adventures. Approaching him cautiously not knowing what to expect they were delighted when he lifted his head and wagged his tail nothing seemed to have changed with him. They did what you would expect Scientists to do back then, they took blood, did x-rays and scans and hundreds of other tests and all of them came back normal. Nothing had actually happened out there in Space when the Solar Flare hit the Space Capsule carrying Jace. The beautiful dog had been born with his special abilities and knew his fate when he was chosen for the Space Programme, all the Solar Flare had done was seal his fate. It was Dog’s Will, and like all animals he accepted his fate with no protest, he was the Pathfinder, the first one who opened the doors for the rest. He was not an Alpha, not a Pack Leader, that came with the second puppy born, his Mother carried the Pure-blood and when mixed with Jace’s blood the true Lycan Alpha was born, Sirius, named for the Dog Star as was written by the Prophets. This was his time and he was not afraid to face his destiny, he would remain in his animal form until the bond was broken forever, it was the price the mighty Lycan must pay to complete his duty and he paid it willingly. The command from the President came through a week later, Jace was to be euthanised, the reason given was something had happened to Jace when the strange light had hit his spaceship
When they had lost communication it meant they had no control over Jace for those few short hours and they did not want to take the risk so it was better to be safe than sorry. As usual ‘They’ knew all the platitudes and used them relentlessly hoping to put enough doubt in the Worker's minds to justify what they planned to do. Of course, they understood that this upset his workers tremendously, they had worked with Jace since he was a young puppy. He had given loyal exemplary service for ten years, they loved him dearly he was a gentle, loving German Shepherd who welcomed them every day with a joyously wagging tail. He was a beautiful friendly teddy bear with a long thick coat that was a soft white/gold colour, everyone adored him. They put up a fierce protest against his death sentence, the whole Team signed a petition saying any one of them would take him home and care for him as a pet. It made no difference, the order had been given and they were told it would be enforced. ‘They’ t
They planned to snatch me just as one of their planes was leaving so there would be nothing the British could do. I told the Commander immediately and I told him I would not let them take me, if I needed to I would defend myself. He stopped me, there would be no ‘defending myself’ The Americans had every right to want to get to know me they were our Allies he had said telling me off angrily. He would introduce me to their Commander and then he would arrange a meeting with the President and the Prime Minister, I had been created for a reason it was time to find out what that reason was.The meeting was held a month later, the Commander had insisted the Americans came to us so they came to the Military Base. They were all sat drinking coffee in the laboratory chatting amicably asking the Scientists general questions and writing them down on their clipboards. All my instincts were on high alert but the Commander insisted I had not
You never gave a thought to what he needed, or that your actions would cause a centuries-old agreement to be broken, all you saw were dollar signs. You make me sick and your company will be liquidated immediately, as for you two, well that decision is not mine to take. Sirius they are all yours, I have some transatlantic phone calls to make’ He walked out of the room and closed the door behind him, knowing precisely what I would do. I growled deep within my throat and the two men backed away in fear putting the table between them and me, I could smell their terror but they clearly had no idea of what I was capable of. No table was going to stop me. I leaped on top of it and stood head lowered, teeth bared ready to pounce, I looked awesome, huge, and menacing as my fur stood on end doubling my size I glared at them as they cowered before me but I did not need to use my teeth. Instead, I used my powers to enter their minds and their bodies racing through t
I waited until I saw his wife filling the dishwasher and slowly made my way up their path giving the Captain our signal, two sharp barks. I stood patiently until he opened the door. ‘Hi Sirius, what brings you here this early?’ He smiled at me and held the door open for me to enter, the Captain had never heard me speak, his Father had asked that I did not reveal that side of me to him until it was absolutely necessary. I deemed it time to do so. ‘Good morning Captain, please do not react to my voice we do not want to scare your family’ I stood very still watching him assimilate what had just occurred, he walked ahead of me into the living room closing the door behind him, a
The base at Unst was isolated and the island was beautiful, with long stretches of empty beaches where I could run and howl to my heart's content. The weather was atrocious, torrential rain and high winds battered the tiny island keeping the humans indoors but I revelled in it. Galloping along the beach as the waves lashed the shoreline I felt my powers returning as my heart healed. I will never forget the Commander he would be part of me always but I knew his Son had been correct it was time for me to move on. It took me another month to regain my full health and all my powers the Commander was pleased to see that gradually I began to interact with the Military Personnel based there. I would wander in and out of offices, the Mess Hall and even their Quarters letting them get used to seeing me until I became another shadow and they forgot I was there. I did not get close to any of them, keeping my true self hidden I probed every mind and found nothing, they were all normal humans goin
I could feel him leaving me and I tried to let him go, ‘Commander, please’ I felt him stop and wait for my question, ‘Will I ever see you again my friend?’ A great peace settled over me as I heard his familiar chuckle, ‘Of course Sirius, I will be waiting for you’ He was gone and I knew this time the link was broken for good I would not see the Commander again until I crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
For the next month, we trained together pushing ourselves further and further every day as we honed our skills. Jack was very different from the Commander, he had unique skills no other human had his bonding with me awakened those skills. We were the beginning, we both knew this and it made our bond stronger, others would follow it was part of Dog’s plan for the future. For now, it was up to us to forge the way and we were ready It was two months later when we found ourselves sitting in the General's office being handed our first orders. We were being sent to Afghanistan to infiltrate the Insurgents who were about to take Kabul as the Allied forces pulled out. Our orders were simple ‘Bring Them Down’ We flew out with our American ‘friends’ a week later, they were curious about me but Jack fobbed them off saying I was a bomb dog going out to search for IEDs [Improvised Explosive Device] to help th
It did not take me long to locate our first target. When we returned to our room I told Jack what I had learned and a couple of hours later we left the base keeping to the shadows as we headed into the town. It was deserted due to the curfew but I was homing us in on our target like a deadly missile. At the back of the town was a junkyard full of abandoned American Military equipment and behind it were the caves the townspeople had hidden in the first time the Insurgents had taken over the town. We approached stealthily, hidden by the shadows, stopping when we heard their voices and I listened intently, they were planning to blow up the airport. They knew there would be a huge airlift of evacuees the next day. It made no difference to them that they would be murdering thousands of innocent women and children. They laughed and toasted themselves with their stolen alcohol believing their plan was foolproof. That the ‘stupid’ Americans would be held responsible for
He had treated him like a child sending him far away from the fighting without giving him a choice or explaining. He saw now he should have talked to the boy, told him why he was protecting him, that he was the future Alpha and all Sirius was guilty of was loving him too much too. It was standard practice in the Packs, when the Alpha went to battle his heir was protected, it had always been that way but he hadn’t told Kuri that. Sirius sighed heavily gazing into the eyes of his newborn, ‘I should have told him.’ He said watching the baby wave his tiny fists, ‘I should have been there for him, made time to be a proper father and not the absent King. Maybe if I had not gone to war?’
‘You fucking raped me’His eyes turned black and he snarled‘You wanted it bitch, you spread your legs willing enough, don’t insult me by crying rape now’Atalanta was having difficulty keeping her lioness at bay, she was enraged by his words and leaped forward wanting to rip him to pieces, he grabbed her arm.‘The bastard in your belly, it is mine, isn’t it? Why are you pretending it is my Fathers? I fucked you before him, it’s my fucking child’He started to drag her out of the garden to the secluded place he had left his car,‘You are mine bitch, not his, this is my bastard. When it is born I will break your bond with my Father and claim you for myself then I will enjoy your hot little body whenever I choose’She dug her heels into the soft earth and using all her strength pulled herself free,‘Take your fucking hands off me’Her growl was deep and menacing, her teeth and claws extended and her eyes glowed as her Lioness demanded out,‘Get away from my Mate’ Sirius bristled with
Her body only wants Sirius, her Lioness only wants Canis, she wants him. He only had to touch her and her body sang with pleasure, he nuzzled her neck,‘Shall I prove my point little cat?’His hand stroked her intimately and she was on fire wanting him again, and he took her to heaven,Their Mating Ceremony was a huge celebration, the whole Pack was relieved it had actually come about, the couple had been through so many trials and tribulations many had doubted it would ever happen. The Party went on until dawn and her Father and his wife attended, she had six half-siblings now, all Shifters but none that outshone her. Her Father told her he was proud of her, and gave them his blessing, impressing the Pack further when he shifted and they saw the magnificent King of the Beasts, his roar echoing around the Welsh mountains. Sirius took her on a honeymoon to Anglesey, the little cottage he had first used with Mylena was now a huge ranch-style mansion. Introducing her to his best friend J
It was common knowledge that Vampyre blood could heal anything, much more powerful than their own Werewolf blood. What was not common knowledge was the fact the Vampyre King's blood could give life back to the dead. It was rare and it was complicated, the recipient had to be strong enough to take the blood, and it would kill a human or even the smaller Shifters such as birds. Atalanta was a Lioness, not only she was the daughter of the most powerful of all the Shifters, the King of Beasts, but she was also a Royal Princess.‘If anyone was strong enough, she was’Sirius thought sitting by her bedside watching the machines beeping, they had managed to restart her heart and she was ‘alive’ but it was the machines doing all the work. He knew if they were switched off Atalanta would die, the Consultant had told him bluntly when he had demanded they take this action.‘She is dead Sir, please don’t do this. It is not what she would have wanted. You must let her go.’The man had pleaded with
‘Go and tell him, he needs to nip this in the bud quickly. Kuri needs to know his position.’She told her Mate and they looked into each other's eyes understanding passed between them, they truly loved each other and were in tune with each other's thoughts and feelings. They knew Sirius loved Atalanta and they knew she loved him in return, she just had to accept it.Atalanta clung to Kuri’s back as he raced along the narrow country lanes recklessly, it was scary and it was exhilarating and she felt alive for the first time in days. As he hit a long straight stretch of motorway she gripped his shoulders and stood on the peddle arms out to her sides laughing as the wind whipped her long hair out behind her. The others watched in astonishment, what she was doing was so dangerous, they were Werewolves and they healed quickly but if he crashed the bike she would be seriously hurt. She did not care slinking down beside him she hissed in his ear,‘Stop the bike, pull over now’He was surpris
Sirius strode into the House and only Luna saw the look of lust on her half-brother's face. He disappeared before she could speak to him and she shook her head, he would not listen to her anyway, whatever was going to happen would play out regardless.Atalanta was surprised to find she had her own room and it must have shown on her face,‘Alpha thought you might like time to acclimatize and adjust before the Mating Ceremony.’He saw her shudder and her eyes filled with tears and he touched her cheek stroking away the fat tear that escaped,‘Don’t cry little cat, please, just give him a chance. He’s a good man and he cares about you deeply. He will give you the world if you just give him a chance.’A soft hiccup made him pull her into his arms and hug her tightly stroking her back, ‘Please little cat, don’t be afraid, he will never hurt you and he will kill anyone who tries. I know its all strange for you but we all want to help you settle in and be
She slumped against him the fight going out of her or so he thought, gently he rubbed her back,‘Why were you crying little cat?’He asked softly and grunted in pain as she dug her elbow into his groin and sprang away from him,‘I don’t want your fucking comfort. I don’t want you. Just leave me the fuck alone.’She screamed at him then found the seat as far away from him as she could get in the confined space of the private jet, grabbing the blanket from the back she curled up with her back to him. She was crying harder now and he longed to comfort her but sat back not knowing what to do for the best. Her soft sobs tore his heart out and sent his Wolf crazy but he knew he had to be careful she had very nearly rejected him, she did not know that but he did.Atalanta slept the rest of the way to England, she had stirred when the Stewardess asked her if she wanted anything to eat or drink shaking her head vehemently,‘No, go away, leave me alone’She spat at the poor woman hunching close
Sirius was not taking any chances with her this time he had phoned ahead and his jet was on the runway idling ready to take off immediately. Atalanta was furious at his Alpha behavior and surprised herself by her reaction, she slapped his face and pushed him back. Jumping from the seat she ran for the door as the Stewardess was closing it.‘No, stop’The woman looked up in shock as she tried to wrench it back open but it clicked shut and the jet began to move quickly throwing them against each other.‘Get to your seat and fasten your belt’Sirius ordered the Stewardess at the same time he picked Atalanta up and slammed her into her seat knocking the breath from her lungs,‘Don’t fucking move’He snarled at her locking the belt and quickly strapping himself in as the jet's engines powered up and it lifted into the sky. Atalanta closed her eyes and took a breath, he had hurt her but she would not give him the satisfaction of knowing. It hurt to breathe, he had slammed her so hard into t
Heathen knew he was going to die as soon as he felt the Silver Wolf’s teeth snap his tendon he was no match for it he fought hard and caught its flank seeing the blood covering the white fur. It only infuriated the massive creature who spun around tripped him up and now stood over him blood dripping from its fangs as it opened its mouth to deliver the death blow. Sirius ripped off the Rogue's head then stood on his useless body and howled his victory, the fighting stopped instantly as all heads turned to look at him. The few remaining Rogues still alive quickly surrendered kneeling before Nero and baring their necks submissively. With a wave of his hand, he left it to his men to ‘clean up’ and sanitize the area, there would be no trace left of the Rogues or their compound.Atalanta heard Sirius make his victory howl and in the confusion that followed, she raced away knowing he would be furious with her. It was not difficult for her to follow the trail back to the Dune Wolf Pack, there
