Walking deep inside the woods was hectic, and I have no choice but to go slowly. My motion was as slow as a snail, picturing me as a fragile human. Although, as of now, everything felt different in me. But it doesn’t change the fact that I have been through hell for the past two days.
I have survived two more rogue attacks, the possibility of being nabbed by members of a small pack, as well as surviving an attack from a wild one out there. Thanks to the gifted abilities I now possess, I have been able to successfully evade every sort of situation I got into. However, it always comes with a price — Exhaustion.
Once I use any of my abilities for too long, which I always do during the evasions, I get drained of my energy both physically and mentally. I’ve made several attempts to at least hold on to my energy for much longer but I have not succeeded in doing it. I only count myself lucky for the aftereffect of using the abilit
Realizing who it is, I begin to move back slowly, mostly because I cannot believe my eyes. It made me start to question if I was in the right place. But this was where I spent ten years of my life in so there was no doubt about where I was.A few feet away from the entrance and I stop to observe the face of who I know shouldn’t be here. Garrett — my damn mate! There was nothing more than rage in me from seeing him here. Even though I am stunned from knowing that I have been found when I thought I shouldn’t be traced to this place, I cannot hide the fact that I wish to pounce on him this state for being one of those that kept me locked. That was when my biggest worry began to overwhelm me. If he was the one who answered the door, then what about my grandmother? Where was she? Could he have done anything to her?It was at that moment that I knew I had to take a stance because him trac
The water felt like a part of me as it rained down on me from the showerhead. The refreshing feeling that took over me was inexplicable, causing a sort of craving for me. I had a bath in the river some days ago, but the feeling from then was far different from what I was getting from this. Maybe it’s because I tuned the intensity of the water to my convenience. I definitely know that this is what I need now. I take my time grasping the feel of the water before washing up. Much later I felt I was done so I cleaned up with a clean towel that I’m guessing was just put there. I then stepped out of the room with the towel tied around my chest. The first thing I was met with when I am out was my ripped clothes on the floor. Yes, I had literally ripped them apart before stepping into the room and that was the right thing to do. They might have served the right purpose in covering my nakedness, but they didn’t qualify to be called clothes. At le
The look I received from Garrett after my grandmother uttered that statement proved he was in disbelief. Pretty sure he got carried away with the conversation we were having that he could not hear her walk back into the dining room. But that aside, she had made known the biggest shock of a long while and his expression tells me he is trying to make sense out of it. “Did you tell her?” was what Garrett asked me while still maintaining the stunned expression. I was at the point of giving him a response when grandma beats me to it. “Oh no, Garrett,” she says. “Lia never made anything known to me. In fact, I’ve known about your kind before she was born,” Instantly, I chip in, “You realize my mother was human. Wouldn’t it have been strange for her to just leave without informing my grandma?” Despite that, he didn’t look convinced, which I don’t get his reason for. I mean, my brief explanation shou
Anxiety and worry were the orders of my day as I stood in front of the building that housed where Monica stays. It had only been an hour ride to this place in a taxi, which rather surprised me that she lives not too far away from my grandmother in the human territory. But it’s funny how I landed here when I had clearly not wanted to. Of course, it took a lot of convincing to get me to be here, which even lasted for over two days. Now that I have been convinced, with Garrett stating the need, I don’t think I can do this anymore.“You know, we can just go back and figure out another way to access the chambers. I don’t think I’m ready for this,” I announce to Garrett as I turn to look at him standing by my side while still tucking my hands into the pockets of my denim jacket.Assurance flashed on his face as he stared right back at me. Like me, he was in a jacket. But he chose a black one
Laughter from a little girl erupted in the air. This was after she picked up a stuffed bear and hit it on her brother who was playing with a stuffed bear as well. She watched as her brother helplessly tried to sit himself up from the ground and it amused her the more, earning another round of laughter from her. It didn’t take too long before her brother finally succeeded in getting up from the floor and that was when a race to hit her back began as they both started to run around the room which was filled with various collections of toys and stuffed animals. The boy caught up with her and retaliated what age did to him. The girl giggled at first before she finally reciprocated the hits she was receiving, a full-out collection of hits being exchanged in the process with their childish giggles continuously reigning in the air. “Arggh!” the girl screamed as she struggled to push off her brother who had his teeth in he
It was a pretty insane thing to do, which was going back to where it all started. I know I volunteered to help him out but going on the journey made me skeptical about how it will turn out to be. Even though Garrett already promised that I would have it easy on our arrival to the place, I have every reason not to take his words for it. The woods was our route through to the territory of the Green Woods. When I say that, I mean we were going on foot and not the usual way of taking a car or something. The worse about it is that we were cutting corners so we could get there, all the while making sure we were at most quiet. Garrett’s reason for such an idea was so that our location would not be tracked. However, he made mention of the fact that wolves with high intelligence can trace our scent, but this method had less of a risk than journeying with a vehicle. It’s been a long walk and I cannot count the number of time
About two minutes later, and Garrett clarified that we can go out of the tunnel. It was good timing because the stuffiness of the place was overwhelming me already. He goes up first by climbing up the ladder that was mounted to the wall. When he had got to the covering, he does something to it and then pushes it open, with the ray of the light flashing right at my face. After that, Garrett looks down at me. “Come,” he says, and all I can do is nod while I get on with climbing after him as he exits the tunnel.I was successful in climbing out before I set my feet on the littered ground of the woods, fresh air flooding my nostrils immediately. Makes me wonder how on earth someone would choose that place as an escape route. The sound of the tunnel being closed catches my attention and I look right at the covering to see that it was a rusty metal with a wheel on it. How then was Garrett able to open the covering
Worried about who it might be, I lean back into the open first barrier to stay hidden, making sure I could have a little view of the entrance by peeping. I do not wait too long to know who it was, the view of a human figure coming to sight.I was beyond shocked when I see that the intruder — in some way — turns out to be the Luna, who apparently is also Garrett’s mother. It wasn’t seeing her that put me in shock, but her present appearance. She was looking like the shadow of her old self and it makes me wonder what went wrong. She definitely wasn’t looking any good. Her skin was pale as she leaned by the door, and when I look closely into her eyes, I was able to observe how dead they were. I might need to also talk about how lean she is with her attitude being portrayed as that of the walking dead.“What happened to her?” I have to ask Garrett as I cannot stand her new appearance
Life was slowly seeping out of him right before my eyes, with silent grunts escaping his lips. Just like that, his ability has completely vanished from his hands as he put them down slowly. The hand that went through his chest is pulled back slowly to reveal a hole right there with a lot of blood dripping from the open wound. I wouldn’t know what to call that because it was akin to doom in my opinion. When he goes down to his knees, I get a clear picture of who committed the act on the elder. “Monica?” I whisper because I cannot speak out loud. But it was more than likely to get the attention of the dark-haired lady standing behind the elder. She was the last person I would expect to be here. Not even in my wildest dreams would I see her lending a hand in such a situation. We might have let her in on a bit of our plan but I never imagined she would follow up in some way. Her gaze was aimed di
I burst the doors open, and the first sight I catch is that of two lifeless bodies on the ground. They looked like that of the guards I had seen when I had arrived here hidden in Garrett’s car. But what I know is that their being down was not my doing. I might have been in a clash with those agents but I did not extend it to this point. What was left for me now was to figure out which direction that monster had run through. He would be long gone by now, which I am sure of after using some time inside beforehand. If I had my hyper sense, I would have traced his scent but that cannot be possible at this moment.I can rely on my instincts now and so got down from the balcony of the building. The woods on the side of the main route wasn’t as thick as the regular woods so I could see through it. Nothing caught my fancy, though but it meant I was not going to acknowledge that path. After thinking for a few seconds, I proceed to go with
The dark power being exhibited by the elder was thought to be aimed at his fellow elders who already have accepted that he was going to harm them. But it went past them when released, going straight into a dark area of the room behind them. Others would have thought it was crazy but the elder had something in mind that he wanted to accomplish with that. The force he had shot into the dark area yielded a result as before it crashed into the place, out came a being from it who rolled on the floor to get away from the impending doom. And when that happened, the elder got his hands ready for another shot of his abilities.“She’s here...” loud gasps escaped the lips of the other two elders that he initially should have attacked as they observed the intruder that he had lured out of the dark area.It was a lady. And this became a full discovery when she raised her head to look at them while she remained knee-
From where I had thought I made a surprise lethal attack, I widened my eyes in shock at what I was seeing. My attack had been stopped, but not just by any means. It was through the same way I had thrown out mine — a gifted ability.Time seemed to freeze at the very least. My head seemed to be throbbing as a bad headache was at the point of developing. I just couldn’t comprehend the sight and I swear I could burst my head open from having to.The crazy thing about the event was who had stopped the beam I had shot out of my hands. Literally, it was to the very person I had in mind which only happened out of impulse after surviving an attack just outside. Because I could tell it was the Western Border elder’s men that had almost finished me off yet again, I wanted to retaliate, not considering the later consequences. But who would have thought it would yield the unexpected of events. There was something da
The moment Garrett ‘barged’ into the inner room of the building alongside Luke, four pairs of eyes rained on him. Belonging to the supposed occupants of the building, the gazes screamed anger, more than likely to pressure a vulnerable being.Something about the way they were stern-looking said they were in the middle of an important discussion and they were clearly not pleased with the fact that they have been intruded upon. But Garrett, who was the culprit of their frowns, pretended like he saw none of what they were displaying.“What is the meaning of this, Garrett? Didn’t the guards tell you we are in the middle of a meeting?” one of the four told the nonchalant young man, exuding much of his angry reaction toward him in the process.“They did,” Garrett said as he finally walked to their fronts, “but I can assure you that what you are having now won’t be as importa
It was stuffy in here, so much that I was finding it hard to breathe. Imagine being put inside a space that doesn’t fit the size of your body but you have to squeeze yourself in it so you can stay at least comfortable. And to add to that discomfort, a load of clothes is used to cover the whole of your body.Just as it seems ridiculous right now to think of was the same way I had frowned upon it when I was told it was the way I would be positioned before I could go out with the boys as planned. Luke, whose car was being used to transport us to our destination, had directly told me I would be going with them in the bunker, adding that it was the only option to take so I won’t be caught on the way. I would say he was following Garrett’s way of stating I should stay hidden. The only reason I agreed eventually was because I didn’t want to end up walking to the place. It was much of a distance away from the Green Woods pack
I guess whatever you run from keeps coming back to you. Like an addiction or so. You tell yourself you do not want to do it anymore, you do not want a part of it again. But at the end of the day, you find yourself in it again. That is just like my chronicles with the Green Woods pack since I escaped from it a few weeks ago. For two different reasons, I’ve had to come back. And those two reasons were really worth the risk. If one has a connection with the topmost body, why wouldn’t it come easy to penetrate a place you should be dreading? This time around, it took a lot of mental convincing that I needed to be here. Two days ago when I had been here with Garrett for the books, what had happened after that was something I wouldn’t want to be repeated. And I’m talking about the two events that nearly got me killed. The main reason I accepted to be here was that I have nowhere else to run to after my
We ran like our lives depended on it... because they did.How Garrett got the strength to hold on to his unconscious friend without his speed being affected surprises me. Funny enough, he was still in his human form, which makes me rather curious as to how he was doing it.Something tells me he chose not to transform because he knew I would be unable to keep up with his speed. If it had not been for the weight on him limiting his speed, which I’m sure is intentional, then there would be no catching up with him for me.I was right ahead of him, straining my ears at the same time to know if I would hear anything or anyone on our tails. But all the while, I’ve got nothing. The reason we were running right through the woods after escaping my now dead grandma’s house was that the backyard of the apartment was connected to the woods. She had her apartment right among those in the outskirt
Asides from the keywords, I would sum up Luke’s explanation to be a load of jargon. Terms I was finding difficult to understand. But I did grab the main point of it all. An anonymous source was destroying evidence of my pack’s existence.Garrett suddenly asks Luke, “Did you get the rest of the data to serve as proof that the council hasn’t been doing their jobs right?”“Yeah,” Luke nods, “I have it saved in my drive. The drive is right here with me,” and he taps the cross bag that he has with him while speaking.I notice Garrett staring at me so I stare right back, but he takes his gaze off the moment I do so.“Have you made any progress with the books?” Luke speaks up after about a minute of silence has reigned in the air.Garrett was quick to respond. “Yes,” he says, “My father documented in thi
