ALLISON POV
I didn't know why but for some reason, I seemed drawn to this mysterious werewolf. I felt a familiar feeling. A feeling I only got from a particular person; I felt it with this werewolf. My eyes narrowed as I stared into its icy blue eyes. Was this Chase?I didn't know, and I doubted he was the one. The reason I couldn't ascertain if it were he or not was I hadn't seen him shift. Of course, I knew he was an Alpha werewolf, but that was all. And we met just a few weeks ago for me to learn more about him.Yet, I knew all the rooms in the pack house.I grimaced, shaking my head as the image of our last encounter rushed into my mind.Despite how juicy it was, it would be our last.I had broken up with Chase as he couldn't give me a good reason why he had kissed Artemisia. He had even made me look like a fool and had casually dismissed me. The nerves of him! Now, gazing back at the werewolf made me think of him. I had vowed never to have any thoughts about him after yesterday, but it was happening. The werewolf was beautiful with midnight black fur, but it was overly large. It didn't look like the normal werewolf I was used to, and it seemed to be having difficulty staying on all fours. I noticed it had a scar just below its left eye, just like Chase, and the beautiful icy blue eyes were like his as well..."Alisson!"I jumped as I heard Laurent's voice. Mother must have sent him to call me about the event happening tonight.I had wandered off, and thinking about why I was in the garden now, I couldn't come up with anything. But I had felt some powerful pull towards a strong scent, and my nose had led here. The scent was coming from the werewolf in front of me, and for some reason, my wolf seemed excited to be out here while I felt otherwise. Yes, I was drawn to it, but I was confused about why."Here you are!"I turned to Laurent and back to the wolf swiftly, but it wasn't anywhere around.Where did it go?I furrowed my brows and squinted as I gazed around the tall shrubs."Looking for something?"I jumped as Laurent appeared behind me."Oh, yeah!" I said hastily. I didn't know what his response would be if I told him a strange werewolf had infiltrated our territory.I knew the only rational thing he'd do was chase after the werewolf and have it killed. But I didn't want to get it killed. Oddly, I wanted to know more about it.And I wonder if we'd meet again because it seemed as though our meeting today was fated...ALLISON POVI had forgotten what today was due to the appearance of the black werewolf.Today was my twentieth birthday celebration and a debut for all young werewolves like me. Also, it was a day to usher out our wolves and be blessed by the great witch.Wolf ushering ceremonies were initially for people who had just had their eighteenth birthday. I was past that age.I was absent from my ushering ceremony on my eighteenth birthday because I was in a coma for two years. I didn't know what happened, but I was told I was left lifeless at the house's entrance, and whoever left me had masked their scent.I kept having flashes about what had happened, yet I could barely remember.Again, I had met my wolf already, but I didn't know what she looked like physically, seeing as I never tried to bring her out. It wasn't as if I hadn't tried; I couldn't.And today was my best bet. I'd get to meet my wolf, Jacy, and unlock all the added benefits it was to bring forth one's wolf. Agility, enhanced hearing and sight, super healing, and many more.It was exciting, and I had everything planned out, but what I didn't see coming was rejecting the man I assumed would be my mate before the ceremony.I should have known he was a fúck boy, just like Laurent. People like that never intended to settle down and only go about chasing skirts.I should have known, but it seems too late. But never too late as well.Perhaps, we were never meant to be as he said. And who knows, I might get to find my mate today.I was told it often happened, but it wasn't the case always.I needed to await my turn. After all, I was twenty years old and never too old to get a mate."Do you like Jared?"I lurched, and my connection with my thoughts severed as I felt Laurent's cool hand on mine. I had forgotten he was with me."Stop scaring me in that manner!" I glared at him and yanked my hand away."Not my fault you were lost in thought.""Do you like Jared?"I guess that was the question he asked before.I furrowed my brows, glancing away from the glower in his eyes to the mischievous smirk on Jared's face.I wrinkled my brows and gagged. "Why would you ask me such?""Because you were staring at him. Both of you were eye fucking each other.""Please, don't make me puke!" I attempted to move away from him because there was no way I was answering the ridiculous question. I didn't understand why Laurent would think I'd be interested in one of his friends. That should be the most disgusting thing he had ever asked me.All of Laurent's friends acted just like him. Pússy chasers; they had fucked all the women in the pack and had begun extending their sexual prowess to the other women outside.I scowled at Laurent as he gazed at me expectantly. "I can stare at whomever I want. Besides, I didn't see him there until you mentioned him. I don't like Jared, and I'll never like him. He's literally you!"Laurent chuckled. "Good."I guess he understood what I meant by Jared being him. I always told him he and his friends had one mind and body, and whoever was hoping to mate with them should sign a death sentence because if their many concubines didn't gang up on them, they'd surely die from heartbreaks.I attempted to walk away, but Laurent held me back and leaned in. "Stay away from my friends. If you try to be stubborn about it, life in the dungeon awaits you.""Let go of me, Laurent. Your friend disgusts me just as you do. I'll never be with them if they were the last person in the world.""I'm glad we have the same thought." He released his grip on me, and I huffed."You look pissed," Sinclair said as he stepped beside me."Ask your brother.""I know only Laurent can make you this mad." He chuckled. And I shrugged."How are you holding up?" He asked."I feel like shít," I mumbled, glaring at the stage, which was filled with high-ranked pack members. Only two seats were left vacant, which were for Sinclair as the King and Alpha and Artemisia as the queen, and Luna."It's your day. You should be happy," Sinclair said.I stared up at him and heaved a breath. I wasn't precisely pissed at Laurent for assuming I was ogling his friend; I was at Chase.I had mentioned the ceremony to him before the rejection, and he had promised to come. He had promised to be at the freaking party, cheering me on. Maybe not inside the ballroom due to Sinclair, but he'd be somewhere watching, and I'd see him soon after before he left again.Shit, I had planned and imagined being with him as soon as my wolf came out, seeing as I'd get my freedom and be free to do what I wanted. But he had said all those shit, and I rejected him!Shit, I had rejected him, and he hadn't renounced it. He had fúcking accepted it-although he didn't say it, but I guess his silence was all I needed to know my stand."Put a smile on your face, Allison. You look as though you are about to murder someone." Mother said as she breezed towards me."It is Ally," I mumbled but I doubted she heard me or maybe she just want to ignore me like always.Mom cupped my face and kissed both cheeks before doing the same to Sinclair and walking away.I glared, folding my arms across my chest. "I hate when everyone tells me what to do.""But you look as though you are about to murder someone." Sinclair pointed out. "Did you happen to challenge someone to a duel?""Because I am pissed." I glared. It was apparent, and it was even more infuriating he was asking me the same thing over again. I wanted to be alone, but I wonder if that would ever happen. Most family members surrounded me. They would never let me be.He clenched his hands. "Is it about boys? I can beat anyone you say his name up. No one mess with my sister."I rolled my eyes. Yes, Sinclair would beat up anybody for me. Laurent would do the same as well, but there was no way I could mention it was Chase making me have this many unwanted thoughts. As much as I wanted to revenge on him, I'd instead not get on their wrong side. Like Laurent had promised me where I'd end up if I got on with any of his friends, it was the same place I'd end up if Sinclair knew I was messing around with Chase. That was the last place on my mind to go. Life in the dungeon wasn't a pretty one. The people who had been there said so, and I had seen by the haunted look on their faces. The last thing I wanted was to have recurring flashes about horrible stuff I shouldn't be seeing."I'm fine," I mumbled after a while."Then chin up and let your pretty face brighten with a smile." Sinclair grinned.I did that, and we were ushered immediately onto the stage where the event started. The event went by quickly, and when it was my turn to usher out my wolf, I heaved a breath and stepped forward. I smiled at the great witch, who narrowed her eyes at me, but I shrugged and let my eyes stray to Artemisia. She shot me a smiled and nodded.I took that as an encouragement and cleared my throat."I, Allison Mae Stone, is here to usher in my wolf, Jacy." Before I met Jacy, I named her. There was the rule to give your wolf a name to have a sense of belonging.I continued. "I hope to be blessed by the great witch and have a fruitful life ahead of me."I felt a strange sensation at the tip of my finger, and my eyes closed while searching for Jacy.I saw Jacy. She bounded towards me happily. And as soon as she was to get to me, I felt a pull and severed in connection. I didn't see Jacy's colour completely before I was pulled out of the trance. My eyes snapped open, and the great witch pointed her blazing torch at me."Begone, she has the cursed mark!"ALLISON POVWhat could be worst than having a powerful witch point a deadly torch at you, calling you a cursed child on your joyous day?I doubt there was anything worst than that."She has the cursed mark!" Her voice was so loud it almost deafened me. I staggered backward as she moved towards me.Stumbling on my feet, I fell on the ground and stuttered. "W-what do you mean?"My wide eyes moved around the hall, and I saw everyone was frozen in place. It was as if time stopped, and only me and the great witch could move. She snarled. "This is no place for you, the evil one.""I am not evil!" I said firmly, offended by what she was saying to me.I didn't understand what was happening, but I wouldn't say I liked it.More so, what angered me the most was she had jerked me away from my wolf and accused me of what I didn't know of!"You are, and you shall die!" She said and pointed the torch at me once more.I saw it glow, and fire spewed out of it."Leave me alone!" My yelling helped those
The darkness was all-consuming. It was a thick, suffocating veil that seemed to wrap around me like a cloak.I could feel it seeping into my bones, its icy tendrils creeping through my veins and filling me with a sense of despair.I had been running for what felt like an eternity, my feet stumbling over the rocky ground as I struggled to find my way. I had no idea where I was, but the fear gnawing at my stomach seemed to grow with each passing moment.Dashing out of the pack house at first light wasn't what I envisaged. But then, what had been happening for two days now wasn't what I had imagined.I should have listened to mother. I assumed she was being irrational and had brushed everything aside. But thinking about it now, I knew it was more than rational thought.Of course, I escaped with the help of my mother. I didn't know where exactly I was heading; leaving the pack alive was the only thing that had slipped into my mind.I jumped over several logs and gasped as my leg collided w
CHASE POV"Mate!"I sighed, rolling my eyes as Ajax growled. I heard the word again today. I didn't know hearing the phrase mate could be as annoying as this. But that wasn't the most annoying; it was the fact that Allison was here that got me madder.I didn't know how she got here or what she was on to, but I didn't think like it. Also, I didn't feel it was a good idea for her to be out late in the forest.Staring up at the bright red moon again, I gritted my teeth, swatting at a branch that snaked around me.The forest I was in wasn't safe. My ears twitched as I heard the howls that meant werewolves would be out soon hunting, and Allison wouldn't be spared. No matter how strong she believed she was, I doubt she could face off more than two Werewolves alone.Perhaps, I shouldn't underestimate her, but there was no way I'd be watching that happen, seeing as she could be my mate. The last thing I wanted was for her to be snatched away from me, and I'd remain mateless forever.I was awar
CHASE POVI glared around the opening and sniffed the air. Several scents surrounded the murky air, but I couldn't think of the one that had hurt my Alisson. My Allison?I was being possessive. I couldn't help it. But it makes me feel good.I moved to her side, and she stood up straight abruptly."Stay away from me!" Allison shouted. For someone that was hurt, she could still use her leg.Allison swatted a stake with her into the air and gritted her teeth while pointing the stake at me.I shook my head slightly, urging her to keep calm, but I doubted she understood what I meant.Regardless, I stood at a distance staring at her until she staggered forward.I rushed towards her but stopped as a werewolf jumped into the opening."I'm powerful!" Allison slurred. Almost immediately, she fell face flat to the ground.Shifting my gaze from her, I furrowed my brows as I turned to the werewolf before me.It wasn't a werewolf; I realised it was a werejaguar.Usually, werewolf species had differe
ALLISON POVI was furious. I couldn't control the words I uttered. Or maybe I should have learned to restrain myself. And the audacity of him saying we were possibly mated after telling me I was only available to warm his freaking bed.He stared at me in shock. I guess he wasn't expecting all that I said, but then I wasn't as well. I think the pain from my foot added to it."I am not a philanderer," Chase said after a while. He turned his back to me and walked to the window."Then explain why you kissed Artemisia if you aren't," I mumbled, limping towards the door."I already told you I wanted to know how it feels. And where the fúck are you going?!"I heaved a breath, ignoring him. Hearing him repeat it was annoying. I guess I was never good enough for him in the first place. "Stay away from me, Chase...""That I can never do..." He swooshed towards me and rammed me into the wall. Not hard enough for it to hurt but hard enough for me to feel him."For some reason, I keep coming close
ALLISON POVWaking out of my dreamless slumber at the sound of the constant knock on the door, I groaned, rolling on the large king-sized bed.I attempted to climb down from the bed, but I couldn't. My body felt very heavy, especially my legs. It was as though I was bound to the bed, but I couldn't see any restraint. My head pounded, and I groaned while attempting to open my tired eyes.As soon as I was able to, the light from the sun streaming into the room from the open window flashed into my eyes. I shielded my eyes from the sunlight, and I glanced around the room and then at my leg.I wasn't bound as I had assumed, but my injured leg was wrapped in a new gauze. I remembered Chase doing that after cleaning my wound. And since he left, I haven't seen him. I didn't know if he was mad at me, but then I doubted there was anything for him to be pissed about. He had asked about the child from the cursed moon. I wanted to know more about it as well because my mother didn't tell me much.I
ALLISON POVAs soon as Jess was done cleaning my injury and applying the Chamomile oil, which I believed was gotten from Chase, I could move my whole body without feeling hurt. I could do a lot of things, it was as if the injury had vanished, but I knew it was far from it.Regardless, I was glad I could still move about the room."Do you need anything else, ma... Ally?" Jess asked, flushing.I shook my head in negation. "I'll let you know if I do."Jess nodded. "I'll be around." She packed up the bowl and rag, then left.As soon as she left, I tried doing mundane things to help with the boredom that was fast enveloping me.But nothing worked. Not even the Chess I love to play helped my boredom.I stood from the bed and limped towards the window. Opening it, I peeped and smiled as my eyes roamed around the vast land Chase's pack was on.An idea popped up in my head. Instead of staying in the room, it was best I explore the pack house.I didn't particularly appreciate when being restrain
I frowned as I gazed at her; my eyes strayed to her good leg and saw she supported herself with a stick so she wouldn't rest on the bad one.I didn't know where she got it from, but it was a brilliant idea. The leg would continue to heal since she wasn't exerting pressure on it.As her gaze landed on mine, she waved and flashed me a smile."That's the lady everyone is talking about?" Magnus asked. "Damn, she's hot."I glared at him. "Eyes off. She should be the least of your problem.""Yes, Alpha!" He said, and I walked towards Allison."Wow, I don't know somewhere as this existed. And why didn't you invite me to the pack's meeting?""Why are you here?!" I scowled at her, ignoring her question.I gripped her hand as she attempted to move past me. "Allison!"I believed she heard the warning in my voice, so she turned to me."Ally. I don't know how often I need to remind everyone. Besides, I'm bedsore." Allison shrugged."I told you not to leave the room, and you shouldn't even wander ab
ALLISON POVMy gaze was still locked on the mark on my wrist and on Chase's stomach. It glowed even brighter, leaving a tingly, strange sensation that spread through me. I glanced at Chase again, only to see him staring at himself. Then, he glanced at me before his gaze wandered to Artemisia."Allison being my mate, I'm certain of. But reincarnation? Not so sure," he said, then he gripped my hand that was still holding onto his shirt. He intertwined our fingers, making me roll my eyes."What do we do? Is it something dangerous?" I asked Artemisia, whose eyes were locked on our intertwined hands. A smile formed on her face, and she shook her head.I tried to remove my hand from Chase's grip, but he wouldn't let go, so I relented."Like I said, I can give him something he can use temporarily to ease his pain," she said. "As for the second question, the Nyxbane is very dangerous. It's a destructive force and can slowly kill even the strongest alpha.""Are you saying there's no cure? If C
ALLISON POV"What can I get you?" I asked as Artemisia and Julie settled on the sofa in the living room."Get?" Artemisia asked. "Silly, we're not strangers.""I am, and I'm famished," Julie groaned, rubbing her stomach for emphasis. "Can I have some lamb chops, a white wine, Chardonnay to be precise, and maybe some vanilla cake for my sweet tooth?""Isn't that the same thing Laurent got for you yesterday?" Artemisia asked, her brows raised."L-Laurent who?" Julie snorted, rolling her eyes. "Who is that, by the way?""Julie!" Artemisia scolded playfully, making Julie shrug."So, you're fucking my brother," I interrupted, my nose wrinkling.Julie flushed a deep shade of red and shook her head. "Never. He's a skirt chaser.""Of course, everyone knows he fucks whoever wears a skirt. And any human or werewolf who gets involved with him will regret it." I stated."He's not that bad," Julie defended.Okay, for one, I knew Julie had a thing for Laurent. I had seen how they both acted towards
ALLISON POV"Chase," I murmured, attempting to shake him awake. He was still fast asleep in the bathtub.I had been tempted to check twice if he was still breathing, placing my finger close to his nose and feeling for a pulse.I groaned as soon as my hand came into contact with his skin. He was burning again. Even though he had soaked himself in water, his temperature didn't seem to alleviate. With his temperature spiking by the minute, I wouldn't be surprised if the water started steaming."She's just a child," Chase whispered, making me frown. His eyes were still closed. It was as if he was trying to wake up but having difficulty doing so.Sitting near the tub, I dipped my hand into the water, gently caressing his thigh. "I hope you're not enjoying making me feel agitated," I said. Then, my mind wandered back to Artemisia. She hadn't called back like she wanted to, and I didn't want to disturb her, especially knowing Sinclair was with her. I would only be putting both her and myself
CHASE POVMy lungs burned, but it wasn't the only part of my body searing. My skin and every inch I touched felt like a fiery furnace, overheated.I pressed my hand to my side, which had been aching for a while. When I raised my shirt, I saw nothing but unusual purple patches.Lowering my shirt again, I surveyed the large, empty room surrounded by windows. A loud noise shattered my thoughts, making me wince. I stepped toward the window as it subsided. My eyes widened at my surroundings."The ocean?" I exclaimed, disbelief flooding me. There was no way I could have been transported here. One minute, I was in the bathtub, writhing in pain with Allison in front of me. The next, I was in a field, then the wind came, and suddenly, I was in the middle of the ocean."It's what your mind makes it seem," a voice said, and I turned to see who had spoken.A woman stood before me, her silvery hair flowing as if the wind was whipping through it, though the room was still. Her eyes were a pale whit
ALLISON POVA kick to my side sent me tumbling off the bed, landing on the ground with a thud. Groaning, I rubbed my eyes and slowly got back on my feet. I realized I was still in Chase's room and that I had fallen because he accidentally kicked me.Chase was currently tossing and turning on the bed, his hands gripping the duvet and his mouth slightly open. I furrowed my brows, leaning in to try and understand what he was saying, but all I could make out was, "No, no, no!"He was definitely having a nightmare, I thought. Reaching out to smooth his brows, I winced as his skin felt hot to the touch. His fever had gotten much worse.I walked towards the bathroom, grabbed a bowl, filled it with water, and took a towel before returning to him. Dipping the towel in the water, I squeezed it out before placing it on his forehead. It seemed to calm him down for a few seconds before he started again. This time, he groaned loudly, shifting uncomfortably in bed.I reached out to touch his shirt t
CHASE POVI stared at the door for a long moment, then shook my head. Convincing Allison was never going to be easy; I knew that much. But I was determined to keep trying.A sharp wince escaped my lips, and I pressed a hand to my side where it ached. Glancing down, I saw my shirt was quickly soaking through with blood."Damn it!"I had really done a number on myself. It wasn't often that I took a hit in a fight, but going up against about twenty werewolves, that was bound to happen."Twenty damned werewolves," I muttered, standing up and making my way to the small bar by the bed. I poured myself a whiskey, then peeled off my shirt and poured some of the liquor onto the wound.Gritting my teeth, I examined the injury. Steam trickled out of it, and it was already starting to form an ugly purple bruise. It hurt like hell, but I had a feeling it wasn't the only thing hurting. My heart was heavy, too. Convincing Allison felt like an impossible task.I wondered how much longer I'd have to k
Alison's POVChase.I peered through the window as he fought with the leader. I felt a sense of fear creeping in. I was constantly getting into trouble, but Laurent and Sinclair were always there to defend me, even when I was the one at fault. They were always ready to fight for me.Now, I had involuntarily pulled Chase into the same dangerous situation. I never imagined that our first night together at his house would escalate like this, and it was hardly my fault. The guy had been catcalling me persistently, and I had ignored each comment. But then he went as far as to smack and grope my ass, and I had finally snapped. I ended up breaking his fingers, not intending to fight but acting out of sheer frustration. Unfortunately, the rest of his gang saw me as an easy target.I ended up beating them up pretty badly, even though I was exhausted afterward. It all happened on my first day here, and I completely lost control of myself. I didn't anticipate that they would trace me back to Cha
CHASE POVI scoured the surroundings for a while, releasing a growl as a new yet familiar scent infiltrated my nostrils. Having canceled my appointment with Sharon, I sensed danger in the air. I lingered by the woods before eventually making my way back home. Whoever had been stalking me remained in the vicinity, but I was cautious about exposing myself. While I wasn't precisely vulnerable or capable of dealing with anyone who crossed me, I harbored doubts that the threat was solely human.Approaching the door, I narrowed my eyes upon hearing rustling from the shrubs a few feet away. My ears perked and twitched, and a low growl escaped me as the intruder leaped out of concealment. A large grey wolf with gleaming red eyes stood before me. Assuming a defensive stance, I observed that it was not alone."Who the hell are you?!" I growled, my eyes narrowing further. I attempted to probe their mind, but my gift chose the most inconvenient time to falter.Just my luck, I mused with an eye ro
CHASE POVAllison stood by the door, her eyes alert. She seemed as if I might suddenly grab her and throw her onto the bed, taking her forcefully. Although that thought briefly crossed my mind, I preferred her to approach me willingly. Forcing her into something she didn't desire was not what I wanted. As for the earlier announcement I had made, even I was taken aback by it. I had never expected to utter those words. It was something that had never crossed my mind before. I never wanted to mate with Allison. It was evident that we weren't right for each other. She appeared to be the kind of woman who sought more, while I wasn't inclined to fulfill all her desires; in fact, that was why I had refrained from marking her.I wasn't bothered by her rejection.Admittedly, this might have been a foolish decision, but I had wanted to avoid a scenario where she demanded more than I could provide. However, the reality was that she was the cursed child from the moon, and currently, she was my on
