Chapter 2
Leah's P.O.V
"You!!" I say with a glare, hoping it could make him piss his pants. He looked confused.
"Me! Yes. I am so sorry for hitting you. It was an accident-" I throw off the covers and proceed to get up, ignoring the light-headedness I was feeling.
"Woah... woah. Where do you think you're going?" He asks, and I throw him another glare.
"I am going to the principal's office."
"Sweetie-"
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Kings, but if it were any other person, I would've definitely not snitched." I say it to her honestly. I proceed to walk out of the office when Mason blocks my way.
"Move-" I ordered him in a tone that I hope sounded like a king ordering his guards around.
"No- not until you tell me why I am excluded from not being snitched upon."
"Okay." I agree with fake certainty, and once he lets down his guard, I don't wait for him to say anything and go around him, running out of the office.
"Hey! Wait- come on!" I ignore his protests and continue my mission to the office. I looked back to see him still running after me, making me pick up my speed.
"Hey! You're going to-" Picking up my speed was a bad idea because I had collided with someone and fortunately or unfortunately, it wasn't just anyone, but-
"Principal Hollins!" Better for me. I would just tell him what had happened.
"I am so sorry about bumping into you, sir ... I assume you know who I already am and you also know that I wouldn't be in the hal-"
"What are you kids doing messing around in the hallways during class ours!" His prickly, strict voice reprimands us.
"Sir- I was actually comi-"
"I don't want to hear any of your excuses! Come with me." Oh no. He didn't want to listen. This was bad. Hollins was a very strict man and would punish anyone- even if you were the president's daughter, you wouldn't go unpunished for whatever school rule you broke. This was something I admired about him, but right now- being a victim of his strict behavior, I don't admire him anymore.
"Sir this is a misunderstanding. I was-"
"One more word, and you'll be getting worse than I had planned." He says this icily to us before turning his heel and walking back to his office, expecting us to be following behind.
Yup. I didn't like him anymore.
I glance at Mason only to find him already looking at me with concern.
"Are you okay?" he mouths. I rolled my eyes in reply and kept my eyes staring at the back of Hollins' head. I was so irritated at the fake concern he was trying to show me. I knew the real him the first time I came to this school, and that was because I experienced it firsthand.
"Mr. Kings- step into my office." Hollins says once we're at his office,. He opened the door and went in, Mason following him behind.
"I'll try to get you out of trouble." He says it in an assuring manner, which makes my heart skip a beat before he enters the lion's den.
He cares about-
No!! I will not be fooled again!
With a sigh, I put my head in between my hands.
This was not how I saw my day going, but I could say that I expected it. I knew having that juice spill on the first shirt I had put on this morning was a sign that my day wasn't going to be good, and we can see how right I was to think that. Now, in few minutes, I was about to get my very first detention.
I could already see my life playing out from here, as it would be going downhill.
My detention would lead me to be in a rebellious era, which would then hand me my first suspension or expulsion, and then my parents would disown me due to the fact that they had spent so much on me to do well in this school. I will then be living on the streets with the stray cats I find to keep me company and when my parents die, I would be called by their lawyer to inherit what they have given me in their will and that money would be used to get a little house for me and my cats, groceries and milk that will last me till I die-
"You're called Candy," I hear someone say, making me look up. It was Mason who had said that, but I couldn't understand why he would call me that exactly, so I checked around for the person he could be talking to.
"Who are you looking for?" He asks in a confused tone and with a raised brow.
"Oh- the person you're calling candy, because it certainly can't be me." This makes him chuckle, and just for a second- I wanted to say something that would make him laugh again.
You don't like him, Leah!
"It was you. I am calling you candy."
"Well, last time I checked, that was not the name registered on my academic file, nor was it the name my parents gave me." I reply sassily, and I don't know how that sounded interesting for him to smirk at me.
"Oh- I know. That's just my name for you." He tells me with a playful wink, making me roll my eyes.
"Well, too bad, but I wouldn't be answering that." I give him a fake plastic smile before going into Hollins' office.
"I did try to get you out-!" Those are the last words I hear from him before shutting the door. It felt so good to do that, but then that feeling didn't last for long when I noticed the disapproving stare Hollins was giving me.
"Miss Baker, have a seat." He gestures to a seat, still having that look on.
"Thank you, sir." I reply politely before sitting down.
"I'm sorry for not recognizing you in the hallway at first. I already reprimanded some students not too long before I saw you two."
"That's alright, sir. I wanted to actually- "
"Mr. Kings already explained everything to me." That made me smirk.
"Oh did he now?"
"Yes..." he says, slowly making my smirk wider.
"Well, I'm sure he left out the part where he had- "
"Hit you with a ball by accident. He told me that already and had agreed to be punished alone."
"Woah- what?!" This was not how it was going to go. Mason was meant to get suspended.
Oh please. You are not that wicked.
"He admitted that he had hit you with his football while trying to see how fast he could throw to his teammate in the hallways, which is a school rule break, and he is going to get punished for that."
"Okay- but did he tell you that I had been at the nurse because of that and was on my way to meet you after I had recovered?" He nods his head.
"He did tell me that too."
"Wow! Okay... even though I'm a bit confused about why he actually said the truth, I guess I'm good here." Now, it was his turn to have a well-hidden smirk on as he handed me my life ruin certificate (Detention slip).
"You're not all good here, Miss Baker. I know that you are possibly the best student in the senior class and have never had a stain on your academic record, and would like to graduate that way this year but I'm sorry to say that you can't go unpunished."
"But sir- I was in the nurse's office!"
"Did she give you a pass slip?"
"What?" my voice becomes smaller after he asks that.
"The pass slip for being in the hallway during class hours- did she give you one?"
"No, she didn't"
"Did she disagree in not giving you one?" I let out a defeated sigh and slump back in the seat.
"No, she didn't" He rests his back too and clasps his hands together.
"So, you can see that you are actually in the wrong here. You didn't wait to collect a pass slip from her and was just so adamant on meeting me to tell on your boyfriend." I whipped my head so fast to look at him.
"Mason is not my boyfriend!!" I say defensively, and I think I was a bit loud because his eyes widened a bit.
"Okay then. Even more reason why I believe he is or would be."
"What-"I let out a sigh, shaking my head and not saying anything further because there was no point in arguing with the man.
"Well, I'm done with you both, so you can continue your lover's spat as long as its after teaching hours." He says the last part in a strict tone, but I wasn't even scared anymore because I knew that was not the real him, and it made me happy that no one would still know the real him except for me.
Principal Hollins was a matchmaker.
It was a good trait about him. I honestly low-key found it cute that he was shipping Mason and I but then it was a given that ship was never going to sail because one thing I was sure of again was that-
Mason Kings and I would never be together.
Chapter 3 Leah's P.O.V "Leah, mom said to tell you to get quickly ready and have your butt down for breakfast now!!" My little brother Derek yells through the door. I let out a groan, drowning myself in my duvets. I hated school days sometimes.. especially when I didn't feel like going to school. I know I'm the nerd and have no right not to like school, but sue me! I don't like school all the time! My cell phone vibrates beside me, and I check who is texting at this ungodly hour. Its 7:13am. I guess she was moving a bit forward. I grabbed one of the nice tops I owned and paired it with my 'fashion jeans' and AF1's. They could give me a million people to tutor and I'd rather have that than tutor Mason Kings. Really? Okay.. not a million.. like three people but you get the point. I couldn't stand being with him- not to talk more of tutoring him. "I'm sorry.. I don't understand Mr. Hollins. Why do I have to be the one to tutor him?" Leah's P.O.V I was not having the best day. Why you ask? No one asked. For starters, it was Tuesday. The first day Mason and I would be meeting for tutoring. That meant an evening spent with him. Monday, the universally loathed day, shifted to Tuesday for me, all due to a single deal I couldn't back out of. Also, that knowledge came with the painful realization that I would be missing Taco Tuesdays- a family tradition where mum and I prepared Italian delicacies while gossiping about her colleagues in the office- Brenda Shannon- mum's boss, being the highlight of my Tuesdays. It broke my heart knowing it would come to a stop for a while. And it pissed me off. The dreadful day went on like a blur, classes held, the normal high school drama where someone finds out their significant other had been cheating on them, typically a high school day. And it all went away with the miniscule enthusiasm I had, looking forward to tutoring Mason. Mason Kings was too smug for my liking, so ima
Leah's P.O.V If someone had told me that I was going to be having dinner with Mason Kings and his mum, I wouldn't bother suggesting and straight up call the asylum on them. It was like saying I was going to become the next Picasso. Pretty untrue and distinct fact. Being at bottom of the food chain in school is where I'd spent my life ever since I moved to Bayter. I really tried to fit in as the chubby and brown haired kid but it just never happened for me and now here I was , with the most popular boy in all of Bayter, brown haired like I was but didn't seem to care about the thoughts of the Blondies.. and I was having dinner with his family. Really. I would've called the asylum on them. "So Lisa, Mason tells me you're the best student in school and you're aiming to be class valedictorian." Leah's P.O.V One of my wishes since I knew what the word 'school' was, has always been to be among in high school. Be part of the cool kids and live life to the fullest before going to university and it was finally happening- just not in the way I hoped. How you ask? It first started the day after my first tutoring lesson with Mason. At first, he came up to me at my locker and said hi which was surprising. I knew it was weird but I didn't want to think too much of it which is why I said hi back. My wish became granted during lunch. Mason called me over to sit with him at his table. The table. That was where the most popular students sat. For you to sit there, that means you were at the toppest top of the popularity food chain in school and me being invited there, let's just say I was on my way to becoming as popular as Mason Kings. The students in the cafeteria all looked shocked, everyone's eyes glued on me as I made my way to the table and set my food down, sitting besid

She gasps at my response making me realize how that might have come off. Shit. "Li!" I turned back and looked at my mum. "Mum, its complicated. I know it seems like I've changed into someone new but I haven't. I'm still the same person and I really don't wanna disappoint you and dad." There. I said it. I knew tht was what they had been thinking so it was only right I said it. Ever since I walked out on them, I'd be feeling so guilty and the constant reminder that I was proving to be a disappointment as their daughter kept on punching me in the chest. It hurt.
