The next day, Devon attended the fucking interview, he wasn't even supposed to be there, but he was. Helping his wife attend the interview.

Of course, she had no idea because the way she talked about the job, he thought she was really really invested in it. Also, he learnt that she got fired in one of her former jobs, so, if he could get her this job, she would be excited, and that was enough.

The moment his feet brushed the rug of Axel's fashion line, at least, that's what the sign read, he tucked his phone, dialing a number.

"Oh my goodness!" The voice boomed into his ears, so much he wanted to take that back, "Devon Brookes finally called him in like forever, what's up, cos?"

"Don't call me that." His jaw ticked.

"Oh." The snap of fingers was heard from the other hand, before the voice laughed again, "Whatever. What's up, Devon?"

"I am okay." He began walking towards the sign that read 'Interview line' who cares?

"I might need your help." He took a deep breath, talking to his cousi

That night, Arya couldn't sleep, she kept rolling on her bed, glancing at the wall countless times. Her phone chimed countless times, she switched it off. She was already dealing with an injured leg, she couldn't deal with friends either. That didn't make her a bad person, because she would just call them back, Devon, he was never here with her. He wasn't even at home. She grasped the clutches beside her and made to walk outside the room, letting out a gentle sound so the butler wouldn't hear her. Gently, she tiptoed over to a room. It was dark in there so she had to switch on the lights."Oh. My. God." She breathed in, letting her crutches lead the way, the room was basically empty with a few paintings and some mugs, she moved closer, crouching her brows. It was the same picture she saw in his room the other day, Except this time. The woman was sitting down elegantly on a black sofa, her hands stretched out to two little boys, their hair was literally the same cut, the both had a fro

Arya scowled at the curtains, surprisingly mornings were not her thing, especially when she was stuck with injured legs and crutches."Arya." Her elder sister, Samantha joined her staring at the curtains with her. "Are you taking your meds?""Hell no." She stood there, watching how the curtains flickered against the wind.Samantha closed the notebook in her hand and sighed wearily. "I am only here to make sure you are okay, unfortunately, I have better things to do at 9:00am." Arya scoffed at her little sister.Sam wore a grumpy smile, before ruffing her younger sister's hair, "So childish.""Hey!" Arya stretched her hand forward, letting out a ruffle of laughter. "Don't do that."Mantha released her hand, placing it back where they belong, "My little sister is already growing up, look at her already married to Devon Brookes."Arya turned to face her sister, a gloomy expression on her face. "I am sorry." She whispered."For what?" Her sister leaned in, folding her arms, and pushing he

Two weeks came and passed in a blur- not exactly a blur, for Arya, it was the worst time of her life. She was bouncing between video calling her friend, Wanda, gosh, she wished she was there. She called Axel, that guy almost shot her off the roof with his 'Jesus, you are dating Devon Brookes?'She introduced Axel to Wanda all in a video call, oh bless those people who invented those stuffs. And finally, two weeks were gone, but today, she couldn't say any less that it would be fun because she was attending a wedding party. She hated weddings, oh she loved it for the couple, at least, they already fell in love and sealed their bonds, she hated weddings because of the stares, and thank goodness, her mother wasn't here, if not. She would be explaining how she knew Devon Brookes, that she wasn't the least bit ready to explain. However, Devon took her as his date, she couldn't be happier. She even set Wanda and Axel as a date for this wedding, just by remembering their scowling faces when

Clara dragged Anna to the wedding, even though she knew her friend doesn't like weddings, she thought it was good that Kelvin wasn't tagging along, so she took Anna as her date.Today, she knew that she would see Axel, and maybe then she would be able to strike a good conversation, so she wore her best lipstick, the one that was pink, it dazzled in her lips perfectly, also, she wore the best gown her sister, Cara had picked for her. Having a Denver sister who was good with fashion paid out in its own way.Her sisters, Claire and Cara had encouraged her, well, not encouraged since their words were quite dirty."Ugh. Clara. I would rather be at home than being here." Anna huffed a breath, stomping her feet with her high heel, that she just had to wear."It's going to be okay." Clara's eyes darted around, they both stood at the far end of the party, she could hear the soothing music, why in the hell was her brain acting so feverish? She agreed with Anna. She didn't like people, she never

When Arya was young, she wanted to be countless things, she wanted to be a writer, then, she switched it to a superhero, then she wanted to skydive for a living, even though her elder sister had called her dumb for that. Yeah, she would never forget about that. And, then her mother told her she could be anything she wanted to be: So, she decided that she would be a fashion designer, because whenever she drew designs, it brought a certain kind of flutter to her heart, a good one actually.Getting fired in Clara's clothing plaza made her lose her zeal, she forgot about everything that mattered, she didn't even tell her own mother about the job, then, she got a job in Axel's line, and she was going to be like a manger. Someone who held high hopes in the company. She would do what she loves best, drawing designs, helping out with the sewing, and the best part of it. People were going to wear her own designs, just by thinking about all those made her heart giddy."You are going to do well.

The day had been fun for Arya, for one, Axel showed her around, and everyone was just as sweet as he was, except some were a little tiny bit grumpy. She liked grumpy peeps anyways, so she just let it slide.Imagine, when Axel was introducing her to the crew."Hi. This is Arya, she will be this department's fashion manager."And, one had snickered, obviously the blonde and said. "Fuck you, Arya."Because her mother said words were words, Arya responded."Fuck you too."Axel praised her that whole day. Later one, seeing Devon Brookes had kinda added a whirl to her happiness, she didn't know why, but something bubbled in, that feeling was warm. Nothing like whenever she saw Kelvin, but still, she loved that feeling. And when he said ring shopping, she thought he was kidding, but he wasn't. He literally took her to the best ring shop in all of New York, alongside Daphne.Whatsapp group chat: Best friends chat.*Emma changed the name to single best friends.*Arya: Okay, who in the hell cha

"I want you to meet someone." Devon Brookes extended his hand, attempting for her to grab it. She stared at the firm hand, before she placed her hand on it. It was hard yet soft to her fingers, she felt the surge that radiated her hand down to her spine. Exactly."Who is it?" She batted her eyelashes, taking a step into the restaurant, she scanned the whole arena secretly praying not to meet anyone."My cousin." He says, like it doesn't even affect him one bit."I am sure she will be lovely." Arya pressed her lips together into a frown, why on earth had she said lovely, there were other tons of adjectives to use. Delighted? Beautiful? What was wrong with her brain? He frowns. "Trust me. She's not lovely." He blows out air. Now, Arya wants to meet her more."Arya. Darling." Arya froze, she knew that voice belonged to her most lovely friend."Emma." She pushes, her teeth gritting, when Emma Roberts, the CEO of Imperial Restaurant was here. No one stands. The woman walked towards them w

Devon didn't like the expression on her face for a while. It made his heart tug really badly, who in the hell was trying to take Arya? He felt anger boil through his veins. He could see her from the side mirror, and damn, it felt like he saw some tears lingering there. He wants to be there for her, protect her, make her feel warm, but if someone was going to destroy that, he wouldn't mind destroying the person first. He drove the car, stopped the breaks as soon as he parked into their parking lot. He pushed the door open, before pulling hers. She came out, her face pale like a ghost, she was tugging at the hemline of her blue sweater, the sweater she most particularly wore every day.She gave him a faint smile, "Thanks for driving me. I will head in.""Arya." A force pulled him, he called out, scooting closer, before he scooped her into his arms for a hug, she felt so tiny, so innocent, so fragile. He stroked her hair, making sure to feel the texture, before whispering, "Anybody who

The next week, Arya had been trying her best to piece back the puzzle, who really was Devon? The little boy in the photo? This morning over breakfast, he had clearly told her: "Arya, I know this is overwhelming, but please. Don't dig into anything, okay? Some things are better left untouched."The way he said it panged her heart, he didn't want her to get in trouble, he cared for her, she cared for him also, but some cases are not better left untouched, that was why she sneaked into that room again, switching on the lights. It looks dustier than last time, sprawls of cobwebs hanging in one corner, still it looked fresh, like someone was coming here everyday, making sure everywhere was accurate. She walked over to one of the paintings, before gently removing the tarp, the painting stared at her. She's really talented. Arya thought she could imagine his mother seated on her favorite seat in the garden, while gently stroking the edges of the paintbrush on the dry template. When Arya aske

Devon could see clearly the woman that walked over to him, her gown was hanging on her body ever so perfectly, and her hair was toppled with pins, held perfectly like an England queen. He wants to go over to her and wrap his hands around her, whisper sweet nothing into her ear, and just hold her."Um.. Hi." She was in front of him, her voice nearly squeaking, it's a masquerade party, so she's wearing her mask. Still, he could see those silver eyes twinkling under the dim light."Arya." He breathed, she made him this. And he freaking loved that, "Shall we dance?""I don't dance well." She whispered under the light, she could feel everyone's gaze following her. They would probably be thinking.'Oh. Who's the mysterious lady beside Devon Brookes?''Is that the girl he kissed the other day at the restaurant?''Oh my. I can't believe this.'Devon pulled her closer, she could smell the sweet scent of his aftershave, something about his presence was tempting, muscular and his cologne. It tra

18 Years Ago.The weather was just fine for a nice evening relaxation. The woman with chestnut hair grazed her feet on the beach sand, for some time now. She just loves doing this.Staring at the way the water topples itself into a wave, giving her the thrill she wants."Guys!" She waves her hand, just so her sons could see her. They were staring with no particular interest, seated on the blanket spread on the sand. "At least have some fun." Her face is pressed into a smile. So sweet and fucking perfect. One of the boys groaned, his hair tossed between his face. "Tell Devon to leave me alone!""Devon!" The woman cries out. "Leave your brother alone!"The boy stares with no interest, his eyes as grim as the settling sun, "I did nothing to him!""Yeah. Right." The other boy jerks his elbow."Guys stop fighting." "Arya. You really don't have to do this." Devon's prickly, mild morning voice made her skin rinse up.When has breathing become this hard? Swallow, in and out.She pushed the bowl of batter, before squeezing the wooden spoon around her hand. "I insist, after all, you did bring me lunch yesterday." She would never mention the part of the note. She couldn't even imagine what he would say.He was quiet, his eyes scanning her rough morning hair, again she was not an early morning kind of person, she wondered why her hair always looked like a nest. Her face rough, and her pale silk nightgown that stopped right below her knee.He was already dressed, ready for the day, while she was sulking, trying to get the sausages out of the pan.He was rolling up his sleeve, his eyes never leaving hers."What are you doing?"
