Her soft tender lips grazed the side of his cheeks as she let her hands fall between his thick thighs. He had a laptop across his legs but she somehow managed to wriggle her way through his underpants to wrap her fingers around his cock.

“When are you going to get off work?” She whispered into his ears and it was Damien that pulled away from Emma. She fell to the bed with a sigh, wrapping her black lingerie over her exposed shoulders. She lifted her gaze to Damien who backed her. Placing his device to the table, he heaved a deep breath.

“What is wrong with you?” Frustratedly, his mistress raised her voice. “What is wrong with us—are you mad at me?” She asked, folding her hands and she sat at the edge of the bed.

“No, Emma i’m not mad at you” He gritted through his teeth.

“So why haven’t you said a word since yesterday, you’ve barely even looked at me. I was hoping things would be better now that Sofia is out of our lives but somehow it’s gotten worse. Somehow you resent me as if you weren’t the one that made a decision that day not to go with her?” She humphed and he turned back at her with furrowed brows.

“You couldn’t possibly run away to marry her, could you?” Emma asked him and he bit across his lower lip. “It’s not my fault” He could say that a million times when in reality, it was. And it was then she got up hastily, grabbing her things.

“Well it’s not mine either. There’s no point in this” His arms stopped her by groping her waist and Damien pressed his head into the side of Emma’s flustered neck. “I’m sorry” He whispered and she filled her lungs with air before pushing him away in his stomach.

He rested against his desk, watching her walk away. “I’m not in the mood anymore” She scoffed, closing the door to his face and Damien cupped his chin in what seemed to be regret and undemanded closure. He picked up his phone to dial Sofia again but she didn’t pick—her phone wasn’t even with her. She’d left everything by the towers and it was all because of him.

Now, he was faced with as much truth as the guilt that weighed his heart because everything around him down to this very apartment was given to him by Sofia herself. She’d tried her best to give him all that he ever wanted and how did he repay her—

—screwing her best friend and leaving her with abandon.

He clenched his fist and shoved the phone against the wall before Damien ran his hands into his greasy hair. Emma leaned behind the door, clutching her stomach in her hands and she heaved one final breath before pulling away.

“Mrs Baron” Sofia had a crack in he voice as she called unto her husband’s mother. Her hands tied into each other behind her back and Cynthia threw her a narrow look after the awkward invitation earlier. “You could call me by my name” Surprisingly, she corrected with the cup of coffee in her slender hands.

She was extremely radiant with skin as flawless as snow and it was without a doubt that one could tell she was of wealth. She reeked of a certain standard of elegance with an exquisite reputation across the world. Ronald had a name for himself through his empire and she as well had one through her wineries.

A chain of luxurious beverages delivered across the world.

Several of the Barons lived beneath this roof even though Sofia had just met a few. She pushed a hard lump down her throat, having no idea what to say. Her family was rich—no, comfortable was a better word because this was way richer than she was used to.

Especially now that she had fallen from grace to grass with less than a cent to her name, things like the italian paintings and the serene ceramics seemed lascivious now. She saw them through different eyes, through poor eyes and her shoulders flattened.

"You were saying something." Cynthia’s lacy voice captured her attention again as she threw her hands over her shoulders. “It’s—it’s just that the maid said she had to run out, something about her father being sick and i could tend to your dinner. I’d like to know what you would want” Sofia heaved, relief washing over her face that she got through the sentence with as many stutters.

Cynthia matched her gaze before shoving the cup of coffee into her hands. “Honey i don’t let complete strangers cook my food” She snarled and Sof shut her eyes in embarrassment. However when she reached a certain distance, his mother threw her a gaze.

“Aren’t you coming?”

At her question, Sofia scrambled right behind her as they made their way into the kitchen. “You can assist” Cynthia said as she grabbed an apron to tie around her waist. She tossed Sofia a tray of vegetables to grate and her eyes went down her hands.

“Cut this” She rested her hands on her waist and Sofia looked back and forth, not an idea what she could do. “I—i don’t cook.” As embarrassing as it was, her voice was in the back of her throat.

“What?” Cynthia snatched the tray from her hands and she took a step backwards. Her eyes fell to the hands that now held around a knife and she cut into the onions and then the carrots, dicing it into the cooking pot, all whilst she couldn’t hide the heavy disappointment in her eyes.

“What kind of woman has no idea how to cook?” She eyed Sofia who ruffled her sweaty palms against her dress—the kind who was once pampered by her father and had everyone doing things for her. It was why it was especially hard now that she was alone.

Now that she entirely had to fend for herself.

Sofia cupped her chin in disgrace whilst her cheeks flustered and she wondered where he was—where her husband was and why he had disappeared on her since they’d gotten here.

“All the women my son brings back, they all know how to cook even if it’s to impress me, i guess you’re different—“ Her voice went down in the last part and she arched her brows as if trying to remember her name.

“Sofia” She blurted out.

“That could either be a good thing or a terrible thing, Sofia” Cynthia turned down the gas and Sofia, whilst pretending she was not bothered by the fact that she wasn’t the first woman Oscar had brought to his home, made her way towards the sink.

“We just had a maid” She said and was met with a gnarly glare.

“So you’re spoiled?”

Pressing her lips together, she decided not to say another word because she seemed to get it worse with each sentence. “Here” With an glint in Cynthia’s eyes, she enjoyed giving her new daughter-in-law a tough time and she passed across a filled tray.

“You hold the knife’s handle this way and then you slice across before turning it and doing the same here, okay?” She demonstrated because quite frankly she couldn’t cut all of these. Sofia relentlessly agreed to help and was as careful as she could with the food. An impressive smile lit her lips as she did the first round and Cynthia looked back at her.

Maybe her mother-in-law wasn’t so bad after all.

She had watched enough shows and read about how distasteful people of her status usually were, especially to new wives. But somehow, Cynthia Baron seemed just the right amount of tolerable.

“There” Her eyes fell to the tray.

“You’re learning this, not just for me but for the kids you’d tender to“ Cynthia continued and an arch carved between Sof’s brows. “Kids?” She echoed, only because Oscar never made mention of them and it wasn’t even in their contract.

Cynthia brushed past her shoulders. “Of course. The kids you shall bear for my son.” At those words, Sofia was caught so off guard that the knife went through her thumb instead of the vegetable. “Ouch” She exclaimed, taking a step back as her hands dripped with blood.

“What’s going on in here?” A sharp voice immediately pierced her ears as she struggled to control the blood. Her eyes lifted to a man that sauntered through the doors. Really tall with a dark brown fluffy hair that fell across his face. He was in a turquoise tank-top, half of which was drenched in sweat and he had a bag over his shoulders like he was coming from the gym or something.

This was however, the first time Sofia had seen him around.

“Theodore, shut the doors” Cynthia threw her head over her shoulders and was immediately drawn to Sofia’s injured fingers. “Oh dear what happened?”

“Brother is coming right behind with Francesca” The man who she assumed was Theo made his way closer to the counter and just then said brother walked in alongside with his wife—the woman who she immediately recognized as Francesca. And that meant the man next to her was Oscar’s elder brother, Aaron as was Theo.

It was a family reunion but without—

“Oscar!” Cynthia called his attention and Sofia looked back to her husband who had finally made it out of his study room. “Look your wife is injured” She added.

“Wife?” Theo echoed surprisingly as he took a bite of his apple. Oscar looked around the room and Sofia could feel her heart throb in her chest. Cynthia was able to wrap the bleeding thumb in a napkin as silence fell beneath the roof that housed six people.

“Anyway, we came from the doctor” Aaron broke it however whilst taking off his coat. He spread it across the hanger as Fran made her way inside the house. “Any news?” There was an element of surprise in Cynthia’s voice but disappointment in Aaron’s.

“No” He scoffed.

“She’s not pregnant, although we are still trying—“ At his words, Oscar brushed past his shoulders and a few glares were exchanged. He made his way out of the house in a rage but that was when Theo gently reached across to Sofia’s hands.

“Please take care of it” Cynthia urged her youngest son whilst the rest of the two were in some feud over the woman that sat into the couch—over Francesca. Not knowing how to feel, Sofia pushed a hard lump down her throat as Theodore helped her up the stairs.

He gently clasped around her hands and his eyes caught her fallen countenance. She was right, he was coming from the gym and he smelled a lot like perspiration but not in an entirely terrible way. The moment their eyes met however, he nodded.

“You’d get to used to it.” Theodore whispered.

Oscar was a lot harder at home than he was trying to convince her to get married and he’d barely even stared at her as well. Even though she was merely his contract wife, an acknowledgment of her existence would be the bare minimum but seeing him walk out those doors in anger, one thing was obvious—

—that Oscar was very much still in love with Francesca, almost as much as she was with Damien unfortunately. But now if they both still liked their exes, how on earth were they supposed to make this work?

Especially now being faced with the choice to carry Oscar’s child.

“So how did you meet my brother?” Theodore’s voice was thick from the back of his throat—very adenoidal and contrast to how tender his face seemed. He was clearly the youngest of the Baron brothers although he couldn’t be lesser than twenty three years of age.He had a clean shaven face, unlike Aaron and Oscar and he seemed less uptight to even the way he dressed. He abandoned his bags by her bedside and held Sofia’s hands across his kneeling thighs as he wrapped around a brown bandage. She exclaimed softly but only because of the pain even though he was as gentle as could be.Small talk like this could easily take her mind of the blood she had already lost and Sofia pushed a heavy lump down her throat. “I knew him when we were kids” Her mind immediately swept back to when she was thirteen in the parking lot next to him, the last day she ever saw Oscar.“And?” Theodore seemed intrigued now and she looked at him.“but not that i really knew him, i uhm—we just saw each other of recent a

His hands caged her slender waist, fastening her gliding hips to his own. Francesca looked down at her husband with a whimpering cry escaping her agape lips. His expression was uncertain but one could tell when a man was close.Beads of sweat trickled down the side of his face as he raised his hands to enclasp her untamed breasts that bounced in the shadowy silhouette across the walls. Francesca faked her moaning like she was about to cum but his was a lot realer. There was a way Aaron usually scrunched his nose, holding around her back and breathing into the side of her neck. And whenever they fought, this was the easiest way to release all the anger and the tension. Deep groans that built up from the back of his throat met the hair across her neck as Aaron shot his seed inside of her. Synchronizingly, she matched his exclaim before she was tossed to the bed. She stood almost immediately while he laid limp with his hands across her chest. “Where are you going?” Aaron didn’t even dart

A frantic knock on the bathroom door drifted her out of her thoughts and Emma trembled with the pregnancy test in her hands. When the door drew open to Damien, she had managed to hide it beneath the sink and she heaved a deep breath before turning to him.A suspecting glare assessed her from head to toe and he wondered why she was fully clothed after being in there for half an hour. She scoffed, turning back around to wash her hands and he peeked into the crystal clear toilet.“What are you doing?” He asked.Emma wiped her hands across the velvet towel before brushing past his shoulders. “I was on my way out” He was convinced only after a few seconds, after when he closed the door. “They’re still looking for Sofia” Damien continued and Emma shrugged, confused about what to do with such information.“Ferdinand called, her mother is worried, asking whether we’ve been in contact since she went missing” Damien leaned against his desk as Emma ran her hands through her hair. She took off he

The pitter patters between his fingertips and the keyboard was a sound that echoed through the room. It was all Emma Roberts could focus her ears on as she slipped her hands through her dress. Her eyes remained fixated on the man in front of her and she had been heaving breathes in the hopes of getting Damien's attention. He was so concentrated on his work that he never even looked at her.He usually didn't because there was always something.Blowing raspberry, she put her foot against the ground with a thud and finally he lifted his gaze to the woman on his bed. "We should go out, don't you think?" Emma asked in a gentle tone and his brows arched because she rarely ever asked him out. "What's the occasion?""I don't know. Cant we just spend some time together—just the two of us. When Sofia was here, it was because of her but now that she's gone, nothing has changed. From where she sat, Sofia could see the large outstretched roofs that soared into the skies above Salem. The wind was eerily cold and she held tightly to savor her cup of coffee. Occasionally a passerby would roam across on a phone call, be it the street photographers or just the normal coffee drinkers like herself. It was a peaceful town which was something strange. However, she moved not an inch as she sat with her legs folded up in her chair. Her hands fell to her keyboard and over the last half an hour, she had pondered on the perfect opening sentence for this book she was working on. An opening sentence that made a point—that was bold and still somehow captured her sense of humor. It was tough, trying to write again especially with a lot of things going on. Just then an ice cream truck with a whistle drew her out her thoughts and coincidentally, she brought her eyes to Theo who had been just opposite her ever since.“You want?” He scoffed with a smirk and she rolled her eyes to th

Mr Winters lifted his gaze from the plate of food in front of him. He halted his chewing, seeing his wife had barely eaten anything, for the last few days even. And his hands dropped the cutleries to his plate before gulping down some water.“Theresa” Ferdinand called with a heavy accent in his tone. Her eyes remained fixed on nothing in particular as she zoned out of that kitchen to where she was. “The police are doing their best to find where she is and Sofia will come back” Knowing what this was about, he continued and it was then Theresa darted her eyes back to him. They were red with sour patches beneath that had shown she’d been crying for days. She never stood up for Sofia when she was around and she realized how much of a grave mistake that was. Because now, not only did she lose one daughter, Theresa had lost two and when she looked into Ferdinand’s eyes, she faced the pain and her heart was stung by immense resentment.“It’s been one week” She gritted through her teeth and hi

The satin hazelnut dress fell across her slender frame and with her hands clasping her hips, Sofia made her way into the banqueting hall. She had halted next to Oscar Baron for a few seconds and he had barely said a word to her. When the elevator doors chimed, only then did he link his arms around hers and they made their way into the chilly room and underneath the lavish crystal chandelier that dropped from the ceiling. In the process, a smile was quick to light up her lips as the hall immediately graced their presence with murmurs and several people throwing their heads over their shoulders. It was a strictly private dinner party with mostly his family members who ought to know he was married. That way, only them knew before the media did.And by the way Oscar darted his eyes back and forth, it was obvious amongst the guests, he searched for his own father. He had invited Ronald, not that he even expected him to be here but at least all the three Baron brothers were around—dressed

Sofia shuddered the moment she met his harkening gaze.Dimitri placed the phone into his pockets and with each step he took towards her, she took double backwards. With an earnest arch between his brows, he struck a finger at her. “You!” Came a tone that was lacey and very threatening and Sofia pushed a hard lump down her throat.Throwing her head over her shoulders, the corridors were idle with the door to the dinner party closed to the both of them and she had wandered into the garden, something that seemed to be the worst of ideas now once she thought back.“Were you eavesdropping?” He asked.“No” She blurted out in fright and you could tell from the shaky breathes that escaped her lips. The winds breezed into her crimson face and she found it difficult to walk with her back. However, she couldn’t risk breaking eye contact with Dimitri. Only God knew what he was capable of. He had a cold gaze that pierced into her glossy eyes, out of fear.“I swear—“ She stuttered.“I just came for

FIVE YEARS LATER.“Aunt Annie!” A child’s scream reverberated through the halls before a little girl of about five years scurried into the room in a bright yellow dress and the first thing she did was embrace Ann who was waiting with her usual open arms.“How are you, Mia?!” She lifted the girl into her arms, adorning her flustered face with kisses. “Where is your mommy?” And just as she asked that question, Sofia scurried right after, Oscar by her right hand. “Have you got the keys?” She asked, panting from her lips and looking around the room perhaps for anything they might’ve been forgetting. But just for a brisk moment, Oscar reached out to her hands.“You look beautiful.” He didn’t fail to compliment her whenever she did, in the last five years at that. Oh how time flies, truly. And to say a lot had changed would be a massive understatement but then again, not so much, I mean Oscar and Sofia were still so madly in love with each other.“Mommy, aren’t we running late?” Mia called

SIX MONTHS LATER.The sun was out on this chill Saturday evening and the winds filled the trees around the magnificent canopies. Everyone was seated with their eyes turned to the couple, the main reason they were here in the first place.“Theodore Baron and Victoria Freya Winters” The officiator called both their names and it was hard for a tear not to well in Sofia’s eyes in that moment. Her sister looked beautiful in that flowing white dress and it was exactly how they’d both envisioned everything since they were kids.Including her as her maid of honor and the same could be said about Theo who by his right hand side had Oscar beside him as well. In that moment, his eyes met Sofia ever beaming with a smile. Six months had passed since his very first surgery and all the events that came after. Sofia was the never one to believe in miracles.Well that was until today. Three hours had passed since everything that happened, Dimitri’s arrest as the everything in context. And as she sat there, she kept replaying it all behind her eyes. She was wrapped with a blanket and Theo and Damien were right beside her.Of course they knew now of what had happened to Oscar and how Annie had dived in front of a bullet to save Sofia, falling off the building in the process. They were just as shocked as the person who unfortunately had to witness it all. It was no wonder she stayed quiet for those three hours, reeling in the aftershock and post trauma. However, the silence had to come to an end as the doctor came out of the room just then. She stood with aching feet, feeling like she’d always spent weeks in these particular hallway. Her lips parted but her eyes said the most words as the doctor heaved a sigh.“It was a success. You can go in now” The doctor broke the news and in that moment,

“We can’t let her leave” Dimitri muttered to David, whose name Sofia had only just come to know. The two of them were at a safe distance but she could hear the murmurs from their lips. They stood at the foot of the door so her only likely escape was jumping down down the five foot building and she couldn’t dare to scream because Dimitri had already assured her his non reluctance to shoot if she tried anything funny. And so she stood there, with her fingers intertwined with each other, playing it off as though she wasn’t genuinely scared for her life. Her skin was pale and her face was flushed off every color. A million thoughts ravaged her head, most especially the ones about how she could escape. She wondered how unfortunate it was that she’d walked into yet another predicament but in that moment, half the thoughts that roamed behind her eyes were about Oscar. And each time she stared at Dimitri, she was so full of vengeance that she wanted to pay him back for what he’d done.Howeve

There was always something so terrifying about nightmares. The hollow halls returned an echo of his voice as well and he was too afraid to move even an inch forward. He hated the darkness, he wasn’t scared or, although there was something quite eerie in the air.He just hated being lost and in that moment, he was.But that was until a shrill whisper crept up behind him and Oscar sharply turned around.
