Raisel had noticed his sour mood since he woke from sleep, he couldn’t fathom what the problem might be. He was lost in thoughts and it was clear. She had asked a couple of times but he had played it off. “Dragomir would you please tell me exactly what’s wrong”, She asked. He began to say something but she cut him off, “And no….don’t tell me it’s nothing because it does not look like nothing” “Raisel I just want to find the stone as soo…” “Is that not what we have always wanted?”, she interjected, “Is that not the reason why we both set out on this journey in the first place? Why we have travelled through countless kingdoms and survived numerous trials. We want the same…” “I know that Raisel, I just want to find this immediately…” “Where did this newfound seriousness sprout from?”, she asked. He shook his head, “You see it right?, It is crystal clear that we haven’t been putting so much work into this…” “How dare you say that! How many times have we nearly been killed trying to
It was raining with reckless abandon when they finally regained consciousness. Their eyes slowly adjusted to the room and their brains did a quick flashback to remind them of where they were. Raisel tried to move but she realized she was in bounds, she looked and saw that Dragomir was also in bounds. There were chained to a wall, their hands apart above their heads, their feet bound together... Then they saw her unstacking pots, she turned around and flashed a quirky smile at them, “You are awake!”, she paced about, “You just had one of my speciality, a sleep serum”, she said in an innocent tone of voice, “It is supposed to knock you out for a very long time…”, she added. Raisel turned to look for a window, “How long have we been here?”, she asked in a strained voice. Crystal turned back to the large pot, that before their entrance was not in the room, she set it on a stack of wood, “Two nights” “What?”, Dragomir shouted in alarm. He struggled against the bounds. Crystal nodded vi
Raisel looked at her in puzzlement. She leaned into her, “You are human…”, her scaly coarse fingers caressed her face, Raisel moved her away, her hands were coarse against her skin. She could see her scrawny ghost-like fingers up close, dirt from ages ago lodged in her hard and long nails, “What is it about you?”, her voice was hoarse with a slight hiss to it. She smoothened Raisel’s hair backwards repeatedly. Raisel leaned backwards desperately trying to her away from her grasp. Meanwhile, Dragomir's hawk-like eyes never left her. He looked on, panic clear in his eyes. “Nothing?” Isolde leaned in closer towards Raisel and squinted her eyes curiously, “It is impossible, you can’t wield the stone and not be some supernatural creature of some sort”, she suddenly turned to look at Dragomir, "Maybe you know something?" She stood erect and walked towards Dragomir, confusion still etched on her features, “Our Dragon prince, dare I say king? Too bad that will not be a reality now would it?
She charged towards Raisel livid with anger…. “It hurts to feel unworthy”, Dragomir interjected turning her attention away from Raisel, “The need to run away. Every witch has a coven, I don’t see yours so I am guessing you left it…” “I left of my own accord!”, she barked, “I am a solo witch” “Oh cut the crap witchy lady, everyone needs to have a sense of belonging, somewhere they can call home, somewhere where they are loved and accepted except of course you were not…” “Arrghhh!”, she screamed and moved her hand towards Raisel and a power surge hit her with a full force, strong enough to shatter the chains. Raisel hit her head against the wall and hit the floor with a thud. “Raisel!, Raisel!”, Dragomir called out to her frantically, tears clouding his vision. “You can not project your fears unto me dragon! Those are your feelings, not mine, you know it deep within you”, she said aloud in a voice that was a male’s, “You think you are unfit to be king, you think you are unfit to be
Luckily for them, they were able to locate the inn in the small town. It was not too far away from where they were. Dragomir knocked on the gate of the large inn, a plump tall lady with her hair tied tightly behind opened up to them, she looked them over, “How can I help you?”, she asked. “We need two rooms please?”, Dragomir answered. She looked them over again, “I think you need more than two rooms, you’ll both need to see a physician too and the dressmaker and a…” “The rooms please?”, Raisel asked in exhaustion. “One night, one silver…” Raisel reached inside her purse and handed the lady two silvers. The lady opened the door wide. With their arms around each other, they entered inside. Suddenly Dragomir stopped and spun around facing the lady, “One more thing ma’am?, Are you a witch?”, he asked. *** Dragomir was back in Islandia, this time around, he was in the royal tent in his father’s chambers, it was like how he remembered it, nothing had been altered. There was a man
Allerick beamed with a smile as she ran towards him, her arms opened wide. His joy knew no bounds. He and his men had travelled throughout Wolfsden forest and had just entered the city, they were famished and had decided to eat palatable food at a restaurant and then he had spotted her… She enveloped him in a tight hug and he held her in place even more tightly, nothing was ruining this moment for him, he hadn’t quite expected this reaction when she saw him but here she was excited to meet with him. He would savour this moment, his fingers strayed from where they rested on her back and went further down her waist and further down… She finally let go of him and she stared at him in wonder, “Prince Allerick?, What are you doing here?” The excitement was clear in her voice, he smiled a wide smile then it slowly diminished when he saw the man behind her. He was never one to be jealous of any man. He had it all, after all, looks, power, wealth and fame. There was however something very d
They were all dressed by morning, they stood outside the inn. Raisel had dumped her pretty blue dress and opted for her signature leather ensemble. Dragomir had something similar on, he had let his hair loose. Allerick on the other hand, had a breech on which in Dragomir’s opinion was extremely tight and made him look foolish, it was coming from a place of anger and jealousy for the prince who had his eyes on Raisel. He also had on an impeccable white shirt with a coat over it. The other guards and Matt were dressed in Avalon’s royal armour. “What an adventure it has been”, Allerick remarked with a smile, “We should get going now” Raisel merely nodded. “Matt you will ride with someone else, Raisel you will have Matt’s horse…” She looked at him puzzled. “Emm…your partner will not be coming with us will he?”, Allerick asked. “Are we going to Mount Isles?” It was Allerick’s turn to look surprised, “Mount what? No, we are going home, to our home, to Avalon” Raisel shook her head,
Raisel saw the knife as it stuck out from his chest, she stilled. Her world seemed to have come to a standstill. A bout of energy none like she had ever felt surged through her whole body, racking her fragile frame. She pushed the men away like they weighed nothing and she ran towards Dragomir. He had a bittersweet smile on his face, it pierced through her heart and her heart shattered like a China glass into many pieces. She spread her arms to receive him but he fell before she could get to him. The man who had swept her off her feet, the man who had taken her around the world, the man on whose side she had fought bravely, the man who had stolen her heart forever, the man she was madly in love with fell to the ground a blade to his chest, the charming smile that had captured her heart never leaving his face. As she fell to the ground, in her last attempt to catch him before he fell. She cried out like a wounded animal. Surprisingly Votigern and his men paid no attention to her, th

They drank a lot of rum and chatted about everything and nothing. It was far into midnight and the bar was beginning to empty out. Coal didn’t have much customers to attend to, so he was able to engage them. Coal took one long sip, “It was always about the ladies when he came here” “No definitely not”, Dragomir argued. “Of course Dragomir” Raisel took a short sip and scrunched her nose in disgust at the awful taste, “Who was it, tell me?”, she bobbed up and down in her seat like an excited school girl. “First it was Esmeray…” “Oh”, she interrupted, her face fell. “Then Raisel…” “Oh shut up Coal!" Raisel was smiling now, “Really?” Dragomir looked at her, “Why do you care so much?” She stared back at him, she couldn’t conjure up any bef
Raisel tossed on her bed, and then she heard it again. She got up with a start, it was still slightly dark but a horse was neighing outside. She brushed it off and went back to sleep but she heard it again but this time it was much closer to her window. It was the early hours of the morning but if a horse was outside her window she had to check it out. She grudgingly got out of bed, it was a chilly night so she slipped on a robe and walked towards her window, she peeped outside but there was no one around or even a horse around. She thought of going outside to check but she did not want to use the door for fear of waking her mother up. Since she got back her mother had insisted on spending the night in her room cuddled up with her for fear of her running off again like the last time. It had taken her a lot to convince her mother that she and found the stone and had no plans of running away without her knowledge. Her words were not enough still until she had threatened that she might
As Raisel rode through the all too familiar streets, it hit her again, how could she forget? This was home, the home where she lived with her parents. Where she had made her first mistakes as a child, gotten her first scolding and grown into the strong woman that she was today. It was not the beautiful scenery that got to her, no this time it wasn’t perfection that Islandia was, the clouds were not excessively blue and did not look like soft foams that you wanted to reach out to and take a piece from, there were not much beautiful flowers and trees as the streets in Avalon assumed a more business-like front. Carriages and horses packed here and there, men were smartly dressed and attended to their different businesses. There were no dragons in all the wonderful colours you can imagine, in the most beautiful patterns, Avalon was dull and bereft of loud colours of any kind. Heavens forbid that you wear bright yellow or neon green, the fountain in the middle of the street did not have w
Votigern had been travelling for days unending, his only lead to the heart of magic had blown up in his face. So he and his men had taken a well-needed rest. He had a huge party that left him dead drunk throughout the day. He slowly opened his eyes, he had a banging headache. He slowly walked towards the door and opened it, a guard was stationed outside, “Send my food in…with a woman of course” He nodded, “Yes sire” He slumped on the bed, and not long after there was a short knock on the door, “Come on in” “Good morning Lord Votigern”, a lady's voice greeted him. He merely grumbled his greetings. She set the tray of food on the table and walked up to him, “What do you want my Lord?” He thought about it for a while, then he turned to look at her, his eyes unashamedly travelling through the full length of her body. By his standards, she was a beautiful woman. Long brown hair, a petite face and a curvy body accentuated by the tight-fitting dress she wore and extremely tight corsets
They rode for hours unending, stopping at intervals for a short break. It was almost sunset when they arrived at the heart of the earth, the original location of Islandia where the portal once opened. They stopped their horses and got down from them. Raisel reached for the box, it was slightly heavy, she handed it to Dragomir, “I believe this belongs to you” He hesitated, “Raisel…” She shook her head, “No Dragomir, this is not debatable. This rightfully belongs to dragons, this belongs to you…”, she smiled, “And what will I do with this after all?”, she asked, “It will only put a target on my back, I do not know where or how to keep it safe…” He nodded, “Thank you Raisel, thank you so very much. I could not have done this without you” Her eyes glistened with tears, “We make quite a good team”, she smiled through the tears. And more, he said to himself. She reached for his face and cupped it, “It is time Dragomir, you did it, it is time. Time for you to do what you have promised
Allerick rode into Avalon, the royal guards beside him. As soon as he entered the royal courtyard word spread around that he was back. He walked head-on to the throne room, he ignored the greetings on the way like he had not seen them. He was in an awful mood and the reason was clear. He got to the large doors, and the courtier stationed outside quickly acknowledged him, “Your Highness” Allerick did not bother with a reply, he stood still, his hands to his back. After a while, he turned to the man, “Can I see my father Stefan? Or do I have to force the doors open myself?” Stefan bowed immediately, “My apologies your Highness”, he opened the doors, “Prince Allerick, son of King Aldrich, heir to the throne of Avalon is entering the thro… Allerick walked in before he finished. Trent and the other men trailed behind him. His father and grandmother sat around a large table, there were two people with them, and he recognized them as ministers. Aldrich saw him first, his eyes lit up when
They slowly rode into the deserted streets of Deleria. They stayed quiet for a moment observing the area. Save for the constant chirping of birds and crowing of roosters it was eerily quiet. There was no sign of human existence. “You know I was thinking”, Raisel said. “Tell me…” “The phrases, the clues we gathered…”, she trailed off, her mind preoccupied, “The clues were talking about Deleria, this is the kingdom that has lost its glory…” “….but will rise again”, Dragomir finished. They rode through the streets but there was still no sign of life. Save for the items outside the beatdown houses that humans used. “Do you think our choice of clothing has chased them inside?” He thought about it only for a while, “Yes they live in fear. Two people in leather and swords are bound to terrify them…” She nodded, “I never really thought about how or where we are to find the stone..” “If it is in Deleria we will find it. It will be hard to conceal it...”, he stated, “I have been thinkin
Raisel ran towards Dragomir’s tent, in her hands were a lot of papers. They were guards stationed outside, when they saw her they greeted her and gave way for her. When she entered the chambers, as soon as she saw him, a small smile crept on her lips. It was the cutest sight ever. He was still dressed in his royal regalia that he wore earlier, his crown had tipped slightly but it was still on his head. He laid halfway on the bed, his one leg was on the bed while the other was on the floor. He was snoring slightly, and a half-eaten apple was in his hand. She walked closer to him, her eyes lit up in admiration for this man, now she knew why he had not come to see her earlier. He was exhausted. She took the apple from his hand and set it aside. She laid the books and papers she came with on the bed. She removed his crown carefully and laid it aside. She gently roused him, “Dragomir, I need you to wake up. I have something to tell you” He mumbled some incoherent words but he did not w
