"Did you just say a thousand gold pieces?" Pamela wanted to be sure of what she had heard. She could not believe that a girl as young as Helia could have such an amount of money. Who was the girl before her? Pamela suspected that she was no ordinary werewolf. Was she even a werewolf? It was hard to detect but Pamela noticed how much she radiated an aura similar to that of royalty. It was so obvious from the way she spoke and walked.
"You heard me right. I'd give you a thousand gold pieces. All you need to do is hand over your clothes to me and speak of this to no one."
"Who are you?"
"You've surely heard of me from folklores told in Wulfe. Anyways, knowing my identity is of less importance to you. What is more important is you giving me your uniform."
"I want your gold but the reason behind paying such an amount for the uniform of a maid is what baffles me."
"It is not your cup of tea and I do not have much time to waste." Helia was visibly pissed. She was running out of time.
"Very well then," Pamela sighed. "You can have my clothes."

Helia walked about the Alpha's court as she tried to figure out where Rendall might be. Helia sighed in frustration.
"Why am I doing this?" She asked herself. She wondered why she wanted to see Rendall badly. She had planned to avoid him so why was she here?
"I'm going back to Khron," she muttered. "This was a foolish idea."
"Hey," a voice called out as she headed towards the exit. Helia turned to see a short, chubby woman.
"Why are you lazing around when there is much work to do?" The woman paused and eyed her for a while. "And what's with the aura?"
"Aura?" Helia was lost.
"To the kitchen," the chubby woman commanded and Helia just looked at her without moving an inch. She had no idea where the kitchen was.
"I said to the kitchen," the woman said sternly. She was getting annoyed. Helia began to move away not knowing where she was heading to.
"Do you not know where the kitchen is?" The chubby woman was infuriated. Helia switched to another direction. She took slow steps and since the chubby woman was no longer complaining, she assumed that it was the right direction and she hastened her steps.
The chubby woman watched as she walked away. She was baffled at how a maid could have an aura like that of royalty. Her aura was not the only baffling thing. She was too beautiful to be a maid. The maid was the most beautiful woman she had ever seen and she wondered why she had not noticed her before now.
******************
Helia felt someone grip her hand. She turned to look at who it was. It was the chubby woman.
"Why do you still loiter around?" The chubby woman gave Helia a look of disapproval.
"Give it to her." The chubby woman gestured to the guard who was standing beside her to give Helia the tray of food he was holding. The chubby woman turned to look at Helia.
"The food is for the heir of Wulfe," she said and Helia's face lit up. "The guard will take you to where he is imprisoned."
The dying hope of seeing Rendall was now revived. She followed the guard to where Rendall was. The prison Rendall was in was luxurious. She was not surprised. Rendall was royalty after all. The only thing that made this a prison was that he had no freedom of movement. He could not leave the room since its doors and windows were locked and heavily guarded.
The guard at the entrance of the room made way for them to get in and when they went in, facing them was Rendall's back.
"Your highness, your food is ready," the guard that accompanied Helia announced.
"I'm not hungry," Rendall said coldly.
"You have to eat," the guard said and an angry Rendall turned to face them.
"And who are you to tell..." His voice trailed off when he made eye contact with the maid holding the tray of food. His hard gaze softened.
Those amber eyes were very much familiar. His thoughts wandered back to the forest where his blue eyes had met the same pair of eyes. What he felt at that moment was similar to what he was feeling now. He observed her for a while. Her features were the same as the human form of the werelioness he had met earlier. The only difference was the hair and eye color. Well, she must of dyed her hair blonde and must have used eye contact. He smirked. Did she think he would still not recognize her?
"You came to see how I was doing? Are you missing me already?" He said to Helia.
The guard was confused and shivers went down Helia's spine.
"W...what do you mean?" Helia stuttered. She was nervous.
"Helia," he called out. " You're Helia."
"He... Helia?" The guard looked at Rendall, puzzled at what he was saying.
"Leave," Rendall commanded and he left. Helia was now very much uncomfortable. Rendall turned to her.
"Helia, why are you here?"
Helia froze. She could not let him know she was the one. She was in the territory of the werewolves and if they found out, she would be dead meat. Rendall might hand her over to his people. Well, deep down, she felt he could not do such but she was not going to take chances. However, she could not let Rendall think that she cared about him so much to have visited so she planned on sticking to not letting Rendall know who she was.
"I do not know the Helia you speak of. All I know is that I am a werewolf and my name is Helena," Helia said without flinching. She did not take her eyes off his even for once as she spoke. Rendall snickered.
"The only person I know of that can talk to me as boldly as you just did aside from my parents and probably Montague is Helia."
Rendall watched as she flinched and he smirked.
"And," he continued. "I did not ask if you were a werewolf. Why did you deem it necessary to tell me that you're a werewolf? By the way, every single person present in Wulfe is a werewolf." He looked at her teasingly. "Right?"
She nodded.
"Except you of course," he laughed. "You're Helia and the Helia I know, is no werewolf."
"Pathetic! Being locked up must have made you delirious," she was annoyed. "I'll drop your food and take my leave."
There was a hint of authority in the way she spoke. The same authority he had seen in the werelioness he had seen earlier. An authority that was almost impossible for a maid to possess. Rendall knew this and he smirked. Even if he was blindfolded, he would know she was Helia.
"Pathetic?" Rendall began to laugh. "Helena guess what, the werelioness I had met at the forest earlier had told me the same thing."
He said the Helena in a way that suggested that he was mocking her. He stood up from his bed and went over to her. He collected the tray of food from her and dropped it on the table beside his bed and drew closer to her so that his mouth was now close to her ears. She found it very difficult to breathe as she became aware of how close he was.
"If you don't confess now that you're Helia," she felt a tingling sensation wash over her body as he spoke. "I'd shout and draw the attention of everyone and when they arrive, I'll tell them that you're a werelion sent by your people to spy on the werewolves. In fact, I will tell them who you truly are."
Helia's eyes widened in terror.
"What if I'm not Helia?"
"There's a spy in my room," Rendall yelled and she gasped.
"There's a spy in my room," Rendall yelled and Helia froze. "Why do you want to get me killed?" Helia regretted why she had visited him. "Do you think I will let my visitor get killed?" Rendall smirked. "My room is soundproof so you do not have to worry. I was only pulling your legs." Helia sighed in relief. She frowned when she saw that Rendall had begun to laugh. "Why are you laughing?" "I never knew Helia could get scared." "I'm Helena, not Helia and Helia... I mean Helena can never get scared." After saying this, she left the room and Rendall did not try to stop her. He knew she would stand her ground no matter what. Immediately she left, Montague walked into his room. "The Alpha demands that you grace his presence this very moment," Montague announced. "He locked me up and now he wants me to see him. Pathetic!" Rendall scoffed. "You would have to see him." "I'd only be leaving this room to find a way to break Nyx's curse. I refuse to leave this room to see an Alpha who
Everyone present froze. They were all surprised to see that Rendall was able to transform into his wolf even when it was not the full moon. Rendall ran to Helia and they both ran out of the Alpha's court. Nobody tried to stop them. Not even Alpha Janus. They just stood, transfixed and unable to decipher what had just taken place. Helia and Rendall both ran till they got to the forest. The Sentinels at the border were not able to stop them. When they got to the forest, Rendall stopped but Helia kept on running. He ran after her, hoping she would stop but she did not. She ignored Rendall and ran faster until she got to a strange-looking tree that differed from other trees in the forest. Rendall stopped to watch her. Under the tree were a lidded container and a bag. She brought out a dress for herself, glanced at Rendall, and gave him a small twisted smile. She brought out a dress for him too, threw it at him and it fell on his shoulders. He frowned but she ignored him, reached out fo
"Take a chill pill. Would you? Why the outburst?" Luna's eyebrow furrowed in confusion. What was going on in her head? "I'm sorry." Her voice softened. "Let's forget about the outburst. I don't know what came over me." "Oh! Okay." Rendall wondered what was on her mind as he studied her. Was she thinking of rejecting him? He sighed. If that was what was on her mind, then it was good, right? The feeling was mutual, wasn't it? He wondered if she even knew he was her mate. Helia had always seen herself as someone who was always in control but this werewolf was making her lose control easily and she hated it. She knew that she needed to do the needful fast and make sure she does not cross paths with the wolf again. "We should go to Alecto now." Helia feigned a smile and Rendall nodded in agreement to what she had said. Helia led the way and Rendall walked behind her. It had been hours after sunset, yet, they had not gotten to Alecto's house. Helia's hair was jet black already and h
Rendall heaved a sigh of satisfaction as he walked with two dead antelopes on his shoulders. He could have hunted for more but Alecto had infuriated him by scolding him for not leaving earlier. Hello seethed in anger as he remembered how Alecto had driven him out of Helia's room and out of the house. Well, two antelopes were more than enough for the old man, he thought to himself and smiled as he saw Alecto's house from where he stood. Rendall dropped the games in front of the house when he got there. The door was opened and he could see Alecto and Helia drinking tea and discussing heartily. "I'm back," he announced as he walked into the house but neither Alecto nor Helia spared him a glance. "So my father loved chicken as much as I do when he was younger?" Helia asked Alecto, ignoring Rendall. "Yes and then he was nicknamed ‘the chicken Alpha’. Oh, my days! Then, at night, all the werelions will gather and everyone will display how fiercely they shifted. Of course, your father w
Rendall stared blankly at the wooden door. He had not been eavesdropping. He just wanted to show Helia the chicken he had caught for her."I did not want her as my mate too. This is good. The feeling is mutual," he reassured himself and feigned a smile.********************"Checkmate," Alecto announced and Helia cheered. Rendall stared in disbelief at the chess board on the table. Alecto's black queen had checked his white king. This was like the hundredth time they had played the game but, at the end of each game, Alecto turned out to be the winner."Again," Rendall said wryly. For the past hours, that word had been his catchphrase while the word ‘checkmate’ had been Alecto's."I am tired, young wolf," Alecto whined. "Just face it. Even though you would be ruling a kingdom soon, you suck at the game of Kings.""I won't give up easily. We will play the game again.""Young wolf," Alecto called out with a smirk, "you would be leaving for the human world very soon and when you get there
Rendall and Helia stood by the tarred road and watched as cars drove by. They were fascinated by what they saw. Large metals with wheels and windows that had people in them drove fast passed them. Some were bigger. Some were smaller. Some were black. Some were red. They came in different colors, shapes, and sizes. One of the colored metals with wheels stopped before them and they watched in awe as its front door window winded down. A man's head came into view. He was a red-head with a freckled face."Where are you love birds heading to?" He asked. Rendall and Helia exchanged glances. They were both confused. "No," Rendall began. He was unsure of what to tell the man. "We aren't birds. I'm a wolf and she's a lioness."Rendall's words amused the man and Helia elbowed Rendall and crooked an eyebrow at him. She turned to the man and flashed a smile at him. "We are not lovebirds. We just want to get to Wilkinson PLC. Do you know where it is?""Of course I do," the red-headed driver replie
"Helia." Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Who was this man? And, how did he know her name? She began to study his features. His hair was dark and sleek, his thick straight eyebrows matched the confidence he radiated, and his facial features were chiseled. This man was almost as handsome as Rendall. He emitted a powerful aura too— one that could not be likened to that of a human. As she took another look at the man's face, she realized how much he looked familiar. She could not remember where but she knew she had seen him before. Her eyes widened in surprise as it finally dawned on her. This man had once visited her father. The man standing behind Rendall's wolf, Conri was... "Brient?" "Helia," he called out as if he was warning Helia. That was when Helia noticed that he was pointing something toward her. It was a tranquilizer gun and as he shot a dart, Helia's eyes widened in terror as she saw the dart approaching her. She watched as the dart moved passed her and turned to se
"W—well, W— wulfe is the name of a country club in Canada. The country club is owned by Rent dall's father and its members are filthy rich because the membership of Wulfe costs more than a hundred thousand dollars. Rendall spent all his life in the country club community and red diamonds are nothing to them so Rendall wore his ring freely," Brient said, laughing it off, and then he turned to Rendall. "Wulfe is completely different from this place. At Wulfe, red diamond is valuable but it is far more valuable here since it is rarely seen around. Since your father owned Wulfe and was rich enough, you were heavily guarded at Wulfe and could thus, wear your ring or whatever you wanted to wear whenever you liked. This place is not as safe as Wulfe. People here might seem weaker but they are more cunning and dangerous." Brient turned to Selene and feigned a smile. "Rendall is a little bit spoiled. He thinks he can behave as freely as he usually does at Wulfe. Selene nodded and smiled at bo
