Athos
"Good morning, Mr. Mazza!" I hear Barbara say to her boss as the elevator doors open. Curious, I take my eyes off the file and turn around. Maybe this time I'll catch a glimpse of my future boss's face?
I must say, his stern gaze is truly striking. The close-cropped beard adorning his square jaw contrasts sharply with his extremely stern expression, and his thick, firm eyebrows indicate that he's not at all patient this morning. Or is this his normal demeanor? After all, the employees who were working leisurely suddenly turned into robots, burying their faces in piles of papers on their desks.
"Good morning! Barbara, could you fetch me a headache pill and some water?" The imposing voice that follows immediately blends with a voice inside my head.
...What do you think about getting out of this noise?
"It can't be!" I hiss, feeling my heart abruptly slow inside my chest.
...I'm sorry, but I liked you and just wanted to touch you more... intimately.
"It can't be him!" I feel a chill spread through my body, sucking away any semblance of security within me.
The male figure dressed in his expensive suit enters his office, and only then do I manage to stir from my place. Flustered, I grab my phone from the back pocket of my pants and head straight to the company's pantry. During the short journey, I call Anne.
...I promise you'll enjoy it very much!
"Please answer! Answer!" I plead, trembling, holding back tears of desperation.
"Olivia, have you finished the interview, dear? Tell me how it went," she asks with a subdued excitement, perhaps due to her working hours at the company. However, I take a few deep breaths.
"Olivia?"
"He's here, Anne!" It's all I can manage to say amidst my agony.
"He who, dear?"
"Athos Mazza."
"Oh, of course he is. He's the owner of the company, why wouldn't he be there? And wasn't he the one supposed to interview you? Olivia, dear, I know you're nervous, but..."
"You don't understand, Anne," I interrupt her and glance towards the entrance to make sure I'm alone.
"Olivia, what's going on, dear?"
"Do you remember the man from the nightclub? Mr. Mazza, it's him."
"It can't be! Are you serious?" She holds back a scream and after taking a deep breath continues, "Okay, Olivia, calm down, dear. Take a deep breath and tell me, did he recognize you?" I take another breath and close my eyes for a few seconds.
"I... I don't know. I... I think he hasn't seen me... yet."
"Great, then calm down! Maybe he doesn't remember you. After all, it was a casual night, right? What man would remember the woman he took to bed in a hotel room a year ago?"
"I know, it's just that..." I take another breath. "Ah, maybe you're right."
"That's it. Now, since you're in the pantry, have a strong, hot, sweet coffee, that'll calm you down. Just try to relax, and if he remembers you, you can deny it, right? Say he's mistaken, it wasn't you, and that's it!"
"Anne, he can't know about my kids. This man is... too powerful, and he could take them away from me."
"Okay, here's what you do. Find Barbara and tell her you're not feeling well. Ask her to postpone this interview and come meet me."
"Okay, thank you, Anne!" I end the call and with trembling hands, I turn on the coffee maker, impatiently waiting for the short brewing process to finish. After filling the cup, I rush off to search for Barbara around the office. However, I'm too nervous, and this fact is leaving me completely disoriented. Nevertheless, in the midst of my lethargy, someone bumps into me forcefully, and the hot liquid spills, leaving an exaggerated stain on a white shirt. "Oh my God, I'm so sorry!" I beg fervently, my eyes fixed on the chaos I just caused.
"Who are you?!" His voice thunders like a horrendous roar, tearing through the skies, making me shiver all over, and despite being scared, I dare to lift my gaze and meet a pair of infuriated eyes.
"M-Mr. Mazza, I..."
"Look what you've done, stupid girl!" He bellows again.
"I-I didn't... I'm... sorry, I..."
"Who. Are. You?!" Mazza roars again, this time slowly, and as much as I want to respond, the words escape my mouth. "Can someone tell me who this crazy woman is and what she's doing here in my company?!" He yells so loudly that the walls seem to tremble.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Mazza! This is Miss Martin, she's the intern..."
"Not anymore!"
"What?!" I gasp.
"Mr. Mazza, Olivia is the best we've found so far..."
"Fire her now, Barbara!" he shouts, and this time, he attempts to walk away.
"Who do you think you are?!" I shout back, making him stop.
Damn it, Olivia, what's gotten into you? Have you gone mad, girl? My conscience screams.
"How dare you?" Athos Mazza growls, stepping closer to me. In front of his stature, I feel minuscule, and his gaze seems to want to melt me. However, I'm angry. I'm so angry that my gaze dares to meet his. "You want to know who I really am?" I smirk sarcastically, even with my mouth closed.
"No, I know exactly who you are, Athos Mazza!"
"Oh, you do? How nice that you do! Now, disappear from my sight!" His stern gaze somehow becomes even harder, yet it doesn't make me back down.
"You're an arrogant, extremely rude, stupid, and rude man!"
"What did you say, insolent girl?!" He snarls, taking another step. However, I don't flinch.
"Oooh!" The employees hiss low and surprised, and soon whispers fill the place.
"Who do you think you are to speak to me like that, you insolent girl?!"
"I know exactly who I won't be, Mr. Mazza. I won't be the secretary of an unloved man like you!"
"Olivia?!" Barbara tries to reprimand me, but I snort loudly.
"And you don't need to fire me, Mr. Mazza, because it's me who refuses to work for a despicable being like you!" I say and then step away.
"WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT, YOU BUNCH OF IMBECILES? GET BACK TO WORK!" I hear him shout as I stride down the corridor with wide steps. "I'm changing. Barbara, I don't want to see that girl stepping foot here again, do you hear me?!" He roars, and the elevator doors close.

At night...
"Did you really say that to him, girl?" Victoria scolds, giving in to another fit of laughter. However, both Anne and I remain serious. "I said that man was a demon, didn't I?"
"Mom, please! Olivia, what now?" I shrug.
"What do you think? I'll look for a job elsewhere."
"From what I've heard about this Mazza guy, he won't allow you to work here anymore. No company will want to hire the girl who outsmarted Athos Mazza." Victoria laughs again.
"Mom, you don't know..."
"He's done it several times, Anne. Olivia isn't the first and won't be the last, dear."
"He's not much different from my father," I comment, and both of them give me pitying looks. "How do they have an entire city in their hands?! How can this be?!"
"I'm so sorry, friend!" I take a deep breath.
"I'm tired, I think I'll sleep for a bit and think of something tomorrow," I say, leaving the table immediately.
"But you haven't eaten anything!" Victoria scolds, but I don't stop. And with my eyes burning from the tears that want to spill, I close the bedroom door and face my children sleeping peacefully in their cribs. "I won't let men like him dictate my life again," I growl softly, feeling the tears spill down my face afterward. "This time I won't stay silent. I'll scream if I have to, but I'll do things my way, or my name isn't Olivia Martin!"
AthosA few weeks..."Good morning, Gentlemen, and I apologize for my lateness. I had a minor inconvenience.""That's alright, Mazza! Now, tell me you have good news for me?""Excellent news, actually," I say proudly to Igor Caruso, my client. "The case is already won, so get ready to reclaim your companies. Each one of them." The man breaks into a wide, victorious smile."I knew you would pull it off!""I always get what I want, Igor.""And I never doubted that, my lawyer. Now tell me, when will this ordeal be over for good?""Our final hearing is in three days. Then, there will be the legal procedures, and you'll be able to assume your rightful place in the presidency of the industries.""You've been my best investment, Mr. Mazza!""I just did my job, Mr. Caruso.""And on top of everything, the man is modest," my client comments, making my small team laugh."Shall we call it a day then?""Before that, I'd like to invite you to celebrate my victory at one of my nightclubs, Mr. Mazza.
Ollie"Good morning, dear Liam! Good morning, my little Levi!" I say to the two smiling babies and smile myself. "Did you sleep well, huh? Mommy had a terrible night, but don't worry, that will never dampen my joy in seeing you like this every morning."Mama!""Yes, my love! It's bath time, and Aunt Anne is going to come through that door in... three, two, one."Where are the most beautiful babies in the world?""See, Mommy knows everything.""Bath time, you adorable little stinkers, and then it's time for breakfast. Aunt Victoria is already making delicious food for you." Soon they are excited by Anne's exuberant joy, and as I help, I enjoy the boys' animation in the bathtub filled with scented water and foam."All set," she says, satisfied after a while, closing the last button of Liam's onesie, while I finish combing Levi's fine hair. A light knock on the door makes us look in the same direction, and Victoria walks through it. However, we were expecting her usual burst of joy and h
OllieHours later..."What do you guys think, pantsuit or jumpsuit?" I ask my children, holding the clothing options up to my body. In response, I receive two smiles with tiny teeth, and I smile back. "Pantsuit it is then. Today is Mommy's second day at the company. It's not so bad after all. What do you think, hair down or up?" Liam responds by making a funny noise with his mouth, but Levi looks at me curiously."Is Mommy pestering you again?" Victoria barges into our room, and the boys greet her with excitement. "In my opinion, you look beautiful with your hair down." She winks at me and takes the boys out of the crib, leaving the room shortly after."Hair up it is then," I say, going against my friend's suggestion and pulling my hair into a tight bun at the back of my head. I give a brief glance in the mirror and like what I see.Minutes later, I toss my phone into my bag, along with my wallet and a lipstick, to leave my room. With this new routine, I decided to wake up earlier to
Ollie"What do you think about getting out of this noise?" That question changed my life irrevocably. It all started when I finally finished my degree in secretarial studies and foreign languages. For the first time in my family, a woman had a degree and even against my father's wishes, I was going to work and be independent. That very day I broke many of the rules of a typically traditional and rigid family and went out to celebrate with my classmates. In my mind, it would happen so quickly that my parents would never notice. However, between one sip and another, time flew and I soon found myself involved in a dance with a handsome and attractive stranger. His scent was intoxicating and he displayed a sensuality that I could feel all over my skin. Then, after our third dance, came the invitation. What can I say? I was too caught up in those little kisses on my neck and his breath that insisted on warming my skin. The way he sucked in my scent, rubbing the tip of his nose down my thro
Ollie"Tell me everything!" The excitement in my sister's voice is palpable. That's understandable since the strictness of our family doesn't allow us to go to parties, let alone clubs or discos."My goodness, Kim, what do you want to know?" I retort, amused by her eagerness, and I look at her lying on her single bed next to mine."I want to know about everything. You know, the lights, the music. I want you to tell me about the taste of the drinks and what it's like to dance with a man. Oh Ollie, tell me! Don't hide anything from me!" I finish brushing my hair and immediately go to my bed, under the covers, turning to face her."The nightclub is exactly like we've seen in movies," I say, and her smile widens. "There was all that white smoke, the lights running from one side to the other causing a strange sensation in our heads. My friends chose to drink beers and oh my, they're awful!" We laugh at my comment. "But the drink made me more comfortable, so I didn't complain.""And the str
Ollie"Do you think you should see a doctor?" Kim asks, worriedly pacing back and forth. However, I can't respond because nausea won't allow me."Damn it, Ollie, something is going on inside my head and I don't like my thoughts!" She breathes heavily, leaning against a wall and dragging herself along it until she sits on the floor."Tell me, when was your last period?" "Okay, that was the question of the century, and honestly, I don't understand why I didn't pay attention to that detail before. I mean, I don't have a regular menstruation schedule. However, it never fails. Whether at the beginning, middle, or end of the month, it always comes, but not this month.""For God's sake, Olivia, why didn't you insist on him using a damn condom?!" My sister scolds, unable to contain her despair, and resumes pacing inside the bathroom, where I remain prostrate, waiting for a new wave of nausea to hit me."You were so caught up in the moment!" She interrupts me. "And now, what are we going to do
Ollie"Olivia? Sweetheart, what are you doing here?" Well, my only solution at this moment was to cross the city and turn to the only person who could shelter me right now. Aunt Ju. My reaction at that moment was to run into her arms and cry for long minutes, while she tried to calm me down and extract from me everything she needed to know, but it was practically impossible."Here, dear, drink this. It'll calm you down," she says, handing me a cup of tea, which I drink slowly, and soon my agitated body feels the tranquilizing effect of the warm, sweet liquid. "Tell me what happened, Olivia?" I take a deep breath and think about where to start this whole story."I'm pregnant, Aunt.""Good Lord!" She mutters with a gasp. "And Dad kicked me out of the house.""Of course, that devil from hell did that!" Irritated, she gets up from the couch and paces around the room."I need a place to stay just until I can get a job...""You'll stay with me tonight, Olivia," she interrupts, and I gulp ne
OllieA year later..."Good morning, my darlings, how are you this morning?" Victoria's lively voice makes me smile, and leaning against the door frame, I bring the steaming cup of coffee to my lips, watching her play with my children while changing diapers.I couldn't imagine that a chance encounter with a stranger would change my life so radically. In a year, a lot has happened in my life, but the best of all was bringing Liam and Levi into this world. However, not being able to talk to my sister over these months is troubling me a lot."You're going to spoil them this way," I decide to alert her to my presence in the room and enter the space I share with my children."Well, what can I do if they're so adorable? Isn't that right, my loves?" She scolds directly to them, making me smile, and I approach the crib, receiving smiles from my babies."Mama," Levi grumbles, reaching out his little arms to me, and I can't resist the urge to fulfill his wish, holding him in my arms and kissing
