The note that had been slipped under her door last night still had her heart racing.

Annabella's threat was embedded in her mind, and it's cast a shadow on each quiet instance in the house.

She had thought things would settle down once Annabella was away, but the tension was replaced, just like the stillness before the storm.

The days that followed, the house settled into an uneasy silence with Ginny and Raymond cautiously enjoying their reprieve.

It was as if Lucy's presence felt heavier now, her eyes sharper, and her manner much more drawn into herself and calculating.

She spent ever more time closeted in her study or huddled on hushed phone calls, none of which did anything to ease Ginny's anxiety.

Pacing out in the hall one afternoon, Ginny heard Lucy's voice low and intent through the door.

"Yes, we need to finalize the plan. I want everything in place before he wakes up."

Ginny's stomach clenched.

Before who wakes up?

Immediately, her mind leapt to Joshua, still lying in the hos

Ginny's hands shook as she stared at the note from Lucy, every word etched on in bold, dark letters.A chill swept through her. She could almost feel Lucy's gaze from afar, watching, waiting for her to make a mistake. But as much as the note unsettled her, it also fueled her resolve. If Lucy was trying this hard to scare her away, then she and Raymond were closer to the truth than she'd thought. She took a deep breath, tucked the note into her pocket, and headed toward Raymond's study. She found him there, lost in thought, his brow furrowed as he went through some documents. His gaze lifted as she entered the room, and lines of tension in his face slackened just a little."Ginny," he said, gesturing for her to shut the door behind her. "Is everything alright?”She silently retrieved Lucy's note and handed it to him. As he read, the muscles in his jaw began to stiffen, and his face, almost foreboding, began to darken."This is it, Raymond; Lucy's onto us. She must know we're trying to

"Raymond, I just want to talk about your future and the family's safety," Lucy said, her voice deceptively soft.Forced to smile, Raymond masked his annoyance. He knew Lucy's words were never as they seemed; every polished phrase was a part of her manipulations. They sat in the sitting room, Lucy having requested a "private" meeting, her tone dripping with mock sincerity."Of course, Lucy," he said smoothly. "What's bothering you?"She took a breath, folding her hands neatly in her lap."Considering everything that has been happening with Joshua and let alone your own stress, it has made me concern about well, the future. I really think that the time has come that we see to the family's assets being secure and your updating of your will, so all can be in safe hands."Raymond's jaw tightened, infinitesimally, but he let nothing be seen on his face.Safe hands? She means my hands, he thought. He held her gaze, nodding, as if weighing her proposition."I appreciate your concern," he said

The note lay heavy on Raymond's mind, and he knew that this might just be Lucy. The words of the note kept ringing in his mind, sending him into a ceaseless apprehension that she was getting much closer to the truth than he'd ever thought possible.Lucy wasn't leaving any stone unturned, her hunger for control of the family estate inching her closer to Ginny and him by day.The silence was thick with tension in the study where Raymond sat alone. He knew Lucy's patience was wearing thin, and if she made one more move to solidify her grip on the estate, they'd be out of options.Ginny's plan to start securing their future assets had given him a sliver of hope, but Lucy's sudden vigilance made even that feel fragile.A gentle knock on the door was followed by Ginny, who slipped into the room and shut the door behind her.Her presence felt almost like a balm, soothing some of the tension clawing at his chest."You got the note, didn't you?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper as s

While riding back to the estate, Ginny's nerves were stretched taut-the threat from Mr. Davis weighed heavy on their minds.Lucy's influence was stronger than they had fathomed, and the rapidity with which she had counter-attacked after their move sent ripples of unnerving feelings down Ginny's spine. It was as if with every step forward, they were braiding a noose for themselves to get tightly entwined in Lucy's clutch.Entering the house, they found Lucy waiting for them in the foyer. Her face was inscrutable, her eyes holding a fraction too long."You two have been out quite a bit lately," she said smoothly, with the tiniest tug upwards of the corners of her lips. "Busy with… estate matters, I presume?”Raymond didn't bat an eyelash but instead gave her a cool smile. "Just taking care of some family business. It's always best to stay one step ahead, wouldn't you agree, Lucy?"Her eyes flashed with something dangerous and her smile sharpened. "I have always appreciated your... proac

The note lay on Raymond's desk, the words chilling Ginny to the core.Raymond screwed up the note in his hand as a grim determination set on his features."This is it, Ginny. She's made her move. If we don't act fast, everything we've found could disappear overnight."Ginny nodded, her stomach twisting with anxiety. They had enough evidence to expose Lucy's manipulation of Joshua's medical care and her plans to control the estate, but they needed more-something definitive that would surely hold under scrutiny."We should get these documents out of here," Ginny said, her voice low. "Before Lucy realizes we've gone through her files.Raymond looked at the folders, his jaw setting. "Agreed. We keep them in my lawyer's office until we're ready to act. As long as they're out of her reach, she cannot cover up anything."They gathered up the files, placing them carefully in a secure briefcase, and headed downstairs. They walked down the hall, past Lucy's office; it was open a crack. Raymond sat, his head down, shuffling through copies of the documents they had compiled.Outside, the fire crackled softly in the hearth, dancing across his features as he scanned on. "She's smart, I'll give her that," he muttered, his finger tapping against one of the documents. "Every piece of this was well thought out. Joshua's accident, his coma hanging on so long, the estate; all part of her strategy."Ginny nodded, her eyes fixed on those papers he was holding. "She's being careful. Every time we think we're getting close, she's already a step ahead. But that note she left you, it's a sign, Raymond. She's getting nervous."Raymond settled back into his chair then, his eyes locking into hers, full of fierce resolution."Then it's time to make her feel what it's like to lose control." He hesitated, weighing his next words. "If we ever want to be free once and for all, we need to wake up Joshua. He's the only one who can stand up to her."The thought sent Ginny's pulse racing. The

Ginny's heart seemed to pound in her chest as she waited to hear about Joshua.Every tick of the clock sounded louder while every step she took down the hallway felt as if she was walking on thin ice.Joshua was close to wake, and with him lay their last, best hope of breaking free from Lucy's grip on the family. If he came out of his coma, he could recover his inheritance and fortune, and at last he might be in a position to defend himself against Lucy. She found Raymond pacing in his study, his face a mask of keen anticipation. They had word from Dr. Hensley that morning: Joshua was doing well; with the sedation cleaned out, he could be fully awake by the end of the day. When Raymond noticed her, he stopped, the frown softening as she came in. "Anything?"Ginny shook her head, her voice breaking. "Nothing yet, but Dr. Hensley said it's any time now-only hours at most."Raymond took Ginny's hand, wrapping his in a comforting squeeze. With every step homeward, they were one step nearer to the final confrontation with their mother. Now that Joshua was awake, Ginny saw the first real chance at a future where Lucy no longer controlled every single facet of their lives. But it also meant Lucy was going to be angrier, more unpredictable, and dangerous than ever. The house was oddly quiet upon their arrival; no hum of activity whatsoever, and it would appear even the staff had felt the tension build.Ginny quickly made her way to the sitting room, where Joshua was already pacing, his frustration and anticipation a storm across his face."I still can't believe everything she's done while I've been lying in that hospital," Joshua said, an edge to his voice. "And the nerve to show up and act like she's done nothing wrong."Ginny laid a calming hand on his arm. "She's only been able to do this because nobody questioned her. But now, with you here, we can finally push back. She'll have to answer for all of it."Joshua nodded,

The room was suffocating, filled with the sharp tang of fear and the heavy sound of panting breaths. Ginny’s heart pounded as Lucy’s men spread out, eyes sharp and muscles tensed.Annabella leaned against the cool stone wall, holding the book of accounts as if it was her ticket to life. Joshua, on the other side, has his jaw clenched, fists too tightly bunched at his sides."You actually thought that you could outsmart me?" Lucy's voice sliced through. There was an undercurrent in her voice: humor laced with rage. She did another step and, by that light, her eyes sparkled menace. "You have underestimated me once too often."Standing her ground and her eyes fixed on Lucy, Ginny said, "We aren't afraid of you anymore, Lucy. The truth's out, and it is only a matter of time before the board sees it.Lucy's lips curled into a smile, but it was anything but friendly. "The boa"rd? Oh, darling, you don't think I'm worried about the board, do you?"She turned to one of her men, nodding sharply

The early morning air was sharp and cool as Ginny stood on the balcony of her room, staring out at the sprawling estate below. It was the calm before the storm, that silence that always heralds the expectation of an up-and-coming battle. Two days had gone by since they had met with the investigator, and their plan had begun its motion. Her testimony to the embezzlement of Lucy into papers, with the damning link to Victor Kane, had all been set in place. She had learned to make the most of moments like this; when the quiet seemed to cradle her in its fragile, uncertain peace. She knew it wouldn't last. The board meeting loomed ahead, and with it, Lucy's inevitable counterattack."Morning." Annabella's voice snapped her from her thoughts. She stepped onto the balcony, joining Ginny with a determined expression."Morning," Ginny said, offering her a small smile. "Are you ready?"Annabella glanced over at her, the light in her eyes unwavering. "As I'll ever be. We've come this far, and no

“You’re playing with fire, Ginny,” Joshua warned, his voice low as he leaned against the doorframe of her room. She sat at her desk, staring at the documents strewn all over the front of it. Margaret's testimony and the board's decision to sideline Lucy had been a monumental win, but it was a hollow victory. The air in the mansion still felt charged, like Lucy's fury had soaked into its walls.“She’s lost control of the board,” Ginny said, her tone resolute. “She knows she’s slipping, and that makes her more dangerous. But we’re not backing down now.”Joshua shook his head, his expression grim. “You don’t get it. Lucy’s not the type to slink away into obscurity. She’s the kind who burns everything to the ground if she can’t have it.”“Then we’ll douse her fire before she starts it,” Ginny replied sharply. Before Joshua could argue, a knock on the door interrupted them. Annabella stepped in, her face pale but determined.“We have a problem,” she said, holding up her phone.Ginny’s sto

“You can’t let her win, Ginny,” Annabella said sharply, leaning closer. “This is our moment. If we falter even for a second, she’ll dismantle everything we’ve worked for.”Ginny's fingers shook slightly as she flipped through the stack of documents before her, seated in the back of the car, parked a short distance from the boardroom where the meeting was about to take place. Joshua sat beside her, his expression unreadable as he stared out the window."I know," Ginny said finally, her voice low. "But this isn't just about facts and evidence, Annabella. It's about perception. Lucy's a master at twisting the narrative to suit her. Even with everything we have, she'll find a way to cast doubt if we're not careful."Joshua turned to her, his voice surprisingly steely. "That's why you need to stay calm. Let her think she's in control, and then hit her where it hurts."Anabella smirked. "That's what I've been saying all along."She exhaled slowly, and the nerves were forced to settle in. Th

“You’re going to get yourself killed,” Ginny hissed, gripping Annabella’s arm tightly. “This isn’t just some game of cat and mouse, Annabella. This is Lucy. She’ll tear you apart if you make the wrong move.”Annabella wrenched her arm free, her face sharp and defiant. "Then it's a good thing I don't plan on making a wrong move."Joshua, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, let out a long sigh. "Ginny's right. This is reckless, even for you. Confronting Lucy directly? You might as well hand her a loaded gun.Annabella rolled her eyes, placing her hands on her hips. “We can’t keep waiting for the perfect moment. We’ve got the evidence, Margaret’s testimony is locked in, and Lucy’s scrambling to keep control. This is the time to press her, not sit around hoping she doesn’t retaliate first.”Ginny leaned in, lowering her voice. "And just how do you plan on doing that? Walk in and just accuse her? She'll twist everything you say and bury you before you know what's hit you."A sl

The mansion buzzed with tension. Staff whispered in corners, their eyes darting nervously as they went about their duties. The front-page article had thrown the household into disarray, and Lucy's fury reverberated down every corridor.Ginny sat in her room with Annabella and Joshua, the stolen files and copies of the article spread out before them like battle plans."She's going to retaliate," Annabella said, her voice tight with urgency. "That article was a nuclear strike, and Lucy isn't the type to surrender quietly.Ginny nodded, her fingers tracing the edge of a document. "We've drawn her out of the shadows. Now we need to be ready for whatever she throws at us."Joshua, who had been uncharacteristically silent, spoke up. "I found something," he said, his voice low. "Last night, after Lucy called her allies, I checked the study. She left a folder open on her desk."Ginny's eyes narrowed. "What kind of folder?”Joshua wavered, glancing between them. The next morning dawned overcast, as though the world itself mirrored the tension within the mansion.Ginny woke early, her mind still swirling with the revelations from the night before. They sat in the locked drawer of her desk, a comfort and a threat all at once. She hadn't slept too well; the enormity of what they were about to do weighed heavily upon her.Annabella came into her room at precisely seven, with a mug of steaming coffee in her hand and a glint in her eye. "We need a plan," she said without beating around the bush. "Lucy's not going to stay idle for long. She'll know something's off soon."Ginny nodded, taking the coffee gratefully. "We take the evidence to the board before she has a chance to spin her lies. We have the will, the financial records, everything. But we really have to tread carefully. If she gets even a hint of this...""She'll go nuclear," Annabella finished grimly. "Which means we need to move fast.As though called out by the saying of her name, Lucy'

"There has to be something in here we can use."Ginny said nothing at first. She had been stuck on a page in the old draft of Raymond's will when suddenly her heart was racing wildly as one sentence leaped out at her."Annabella," she said quietly but urgently.
