Chapter 85

The sound from her cheek, as my hand landed on it with full force, resounded around us, piercing through the solemn music playing in the background. How can she be so desperate? First a picture, now a kiss? I couldn't take it anymore.

The music paused abruptly, a pause that turned all eyes in our direction. Soon, whispers and gasps swallowed the silence from the crowd watching us.

Ava held her cheek in disbelief, her widened eyes locked into mine and I returned it with a fierce gaze. She should know not to mess with me. Ava has been on my nerves ever since I entered Ethan’s life but all this has to stop. I hope this will put her in her place.

“Did you just slap me?” She confronted as though she just realized what had happened.

“I did,” I responded in agreement. “ It seemed you were drunk, that was meant to sober you up. How are you feeling?”

“How dare you?!” She shrieked.

I shook my head slightly in scorn, “Exactly. The same damn question I asked myself. Why are you so desperate to

Ethan had his eyes on me the entire night throughout the remaining ceremony process. He watched me like a sniper watching his victim, ready to pull the cock and fire the shot of questions probably piled up in his mind. I pretended not to notice his little sighs, the way his hands twitch and involuntarily ball up into a fist. He would release it whenever he caught himself. I wanted to wrap my hands around him, to take his sweet scent but the anger was greater than my feelings. Ethan has been nothing but kind to me except for the few times he has been a dick. He is a good man, the little voice in my head reminded me. He doesn't deserve this mental torture. I pushed back the thought and went on with my night till the event was over and we went back home. The door of the car swung open with a little bit of force as I was impatient to wait for him to open the door even though he was already there. The door grazed past his knees and I heard him cuss under his breath. Climbing down from

“You don't have to act like this, Mae”“Really? Please tell me how to act, Ethan. Tell me.” I pinched my brows tightly as I sighed deeply, “Mae, I'm sorry. Alright. I shouldn't have danced with her or even said anything to her.” I explained while walking behind her. She had her back against me the entire time I spoke. Her long strides led her to the door. Mae twisted the knob and pulled open the door, “Leave my room.” She demanded. Her hand was on her hip and the other was on the knob. I have never seen Mae this mad.Why did I let Ava get to me? Why did I even dance with her tonight? She let me know and now, her actions want to ruin my marriage? Not happening. I lo...like Mae and I'm not letting her go no matter what. Moving from the spot where I stood rooted in shock, I took three steps closer to her, “Mae—”“Leave,”I sighed in defeat and proceeded to leave. Nothing will make her change her mind once it has been made.I heard her scoff as my legs began to move. “Of course.”I

“What are you doing, Jace?” My voice trembled with fear. Jace ignored my question, his eyes locked into mine. I struggled to be free from his grip but he was stronger. “Stay still, I'm not doing anything to you Mae. I just want to hold you.” “You can hold me but not in this inappropriate manner. I have a husband.”“A husband that has his Ex lurking around. You deserve better.”“Better? What do you mean?” I averted my gaze. This conversation was about to go southwards. A conversation I’d love to avoid. He let go of me and took three steps backwards, his hands in the air in a surrendering gesture. “By better, I surely don't mean me, of course.” He chuckled. “I had you there, didn't I? I'm sorry if my actions caught you off guard, I wanted to check something.”“And what is that?”“To see if you fit in my hands perfectly. You didn't, because of your tiny figure. I like my girls taller and thicker.”“Jace!”“Sorry.”“You are fucking, Psychopath.” I giggled. “Well, that sounds familia

It's good news.“We need to go see Cartwright tomorrow,” Ethan suggested.“Sure.”“I can't believe he is going to be a father.”“Me too.” I concur.“Go to bed, you need to rest. It has been a long night.”It has. I looked up at his face, “Goodnight.”“Goodnight Cupcake.” He lowered his lips to my forehead and planted a gentle kiss on it. I took in his scent once again before he pulled away from me and made his way to the door. Don't go. I wanted to say those words to him badly but I couldn't.He opened the door and left. I looked down at my phone, reading the message again Wynona had sent.Wynona: I’m pregnant, Mae. I know. It came as a shock to me too. I'm scared and I don't know what to do.I tapped on it to reply.Me: Don’t be. It is good news. Have you told Cartwright? CHAPTER NINTYI found myself wrapped in Ethan’s arms as I woke up. His breath on my skin and chest pressed against my back. Although his grip wasn't tight, it felt almost impossible to leave the bed. I unclasped his hand, lifted it away from my waist, and dropped it gently on the soft mattress. I hope he doesn't wake up yet. As soon as his hand landed on the bed, he brought it back to my waist, mumbling inaudible words, and drew me closer to him. Great, just great. Another wasted effort.I repeated my action two more times but received the same reaction. So I gave up, lying still on the bed like a log of wood, my eyes fixed on the large black curtains that seemed to stop the sunlight from entering the dimly lit room. What time is it? I flinched, snapping out of my thoughts as Ethan inhaled deeply against my neck. “Good morning,” he mumbled. “Did I scare you?” “No,” I lied. My voice came out hoarse so I cleared my throat to get a smooth speech. “Did I wake up?”“No, yes. Something

ETHANOur eyes locked as she advanced toward me. With outstretched hands, she reached for the knot on my shorts. Her fingers played with the two parallel wooly ropes tied together to hold my shorts. My eyes left hers to her breasts. I couldn't help but imagine them in my mouth. Patience, Ethan. Patience. Her gaze went back and forth between the rope and my face. From the corner of my eyes, I caught the movement and returned my gaze to hers. I nodded slightly. A sign of consent. All her actions were slow and deliberate, a tease to keep me on my toes. I didn't want to rush it either because the result is always bliss. Mae released the knot, her eyes still on mine, as she let go of the wool. Next, she grabbed the shorts on both sides, her palms on the elastic band as she pulled it down. Mae let out a yelp as the tip of my hard cock brushed her cheeks. I chuckled. It was a beautiful sight that I didn't want to forget. Finding the head, she wrapped her fingers around it and brought i

MAEMy grip tightened as I stared at the phone in my hand. The screen revealed a damning image that appeared out of nowhere—a picture of me and Jace locked in whatever seemed like a kiss. This was the same outfit from yesterday, the one I had worn to the ceremony. Who would have done this and why? The air in the room felt thin and suffocating like the walls were closing in on me. My heart pounded hard against my chest, I could hear the sound of my blood rushing to my ears. Without a second thought, I stormed out of my room to Ethan’s room. He wasn't there. He must have seen the picture. Oh God. I rushed to the balcony, his usual comfort place but he wasn't there either. I strode back to the room, lost in thoughts, picking on my new growth strouts nervously. Where must have he gone? My phone trembled in my hands as I stood in the middle of his room wondering where he might be when a familiar voice called out to me. Ethan.I turned hastily in the direction of the voice and walked to

MAEOutside the cold air grazed my face, it sent chills down my spine but it did little to calm the storm brewing within me. I wrapped my arms around myself, my mind racing with different thoughts as I tried putting pieces together like solving an intricately detailed puzzle. Who could have done this? And why? As much as I don't want to point accusing fingers at anyone, Ava’s name kept ringing in my ears. She is the only one I know who is capable of this and…Jace?Jace. His name popped up suddenly in my mind. Could he have a hand in this? Has he seen the news? My mind instantly went back to Lindsey’s warning, “Be Careful of that driver of yours.” When he pulled me in last night, his actions were deliberate and mischievous. I haven't heard or seen him since last night. There was no way he had a hand in this… right?I pulled out my phone and scrolled through my contacts till I found his name. My finger hovered above the screen for a moment before I pressed the call button. My heart

MAEThe moment the door opened, and I saw who it was, my heart stopped. “Dad?” I croaked, my voice barely above a whisper. Tears sprang to my eyes almost immediately. I tried to sit up, but he was already by my side, gently pressing me back down. “Don’t push yourself,” he said softly, but there was worry in every word. He pulled up a chair and sat next to me, his hand covering mine. “You should be resting.”I blinked up at him, confused. “What… how are you here? Shouldn’t you also be resting?” My dad had fainted just two days ago and seeing him there made my chest ache.He gave me a small smile and shrugged like it was nothing. “I heard about a certain Mae being treated at the hospital. Someone mentioned your name, and I… I had to make sure it was you.” His voice cracked a little at the end.I swallowed hard, my throat hurting. “I’m okay now, Dad. I promise. I should be the one worrying about you. How do you feel?”“I'm fine.” He replied with a small smile. He just held my hand, his

CMAEThe moment Ethan walked in, my heart stopped. Not in a good way. He looked rough like he’d been through hell and back, but he still had this commanding presence about him. And those men in suits behind him? Yeah, that didn’t help. My stomach twisted, the knife in my throat feeling colder and sharper than ever now. Ava’s grip on me tightened, and I could feel her shaking just slightly. Their coming closer was making her nervous and her knife pressed into my neck even more, scaring me.“Ethan,” she said, her voice cracking but still carrying that desperate tone. “Tell them to stay back, or I’ll kill her.” That sent a chill down my spine, like ice running through my veins. She pressed the knife closer, and I winced, biting my lip to keep myself from crying out. It hurt, my shoulder had still not healed from the accident and the way she was pressing it down hurt badly.Ethan raised his hands, palms out, his voice calm, like he was trying to also calm her down. “Ava, just let her

ChaMAEMy eyes snapped open, and for a moment, everything was a blur. My head throbbed like someone had hit it many times, and my mouth was dry, my tongue sticking to the roof of it. My head hurt badly, like badly, especially the back of my head like it had been hit.I blinked a few times, trying to figure out where I was, trying to remember what had happened, but nothing made sense. The air was damp and cold, and there was this faint, musty smell that made my stomach twist. I looked around, my vision finally clearing, and panic hit me almost immediately, making my heart pound harder than ever.I was in a huge, dark basement, the kind you only find in horror movies, except this was real life, my life. The only light came from a single bulb hanging from the ceiling, swaying slightly like it might go out any second. My arms and legs felt heavy, and when I tried to move, I realized why. I was tied to a chair. Thick ropes dug into my wrists and ankles, holding me in place no matter h

MAEIt was Julianna. Of course, it was Julianna. Why did I think she wouldn't come? Of course, she would. Seemed like everyone knew her except me and it was killing me. I wasn't even sure if she and Ethan had dated before. I wasn't sure about anything anymore. She walked onto the balcony like she owned the world, dressed to kill in this beautiful black dress that hugged her figure perfectly. She looked completely perfect. Her makeup was flawless, not a smudge out of place, and her hair looked like it had been styled by some overpriced Hollywood professional. She had this effortless grace about her like she knew people were watching, and she loved it. I felt tiny in comparison. I felt out of place at that moment. She was like the epitome of beauty, and I was the epitome of nothing. Well, not nothing. I believed in loving my body, but she just suited him perfectly while he and I were odd together. She made her way over to us with a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes, slipping he

MAEI spotted him the second Lindsey walked away like my eyes had been programmed to find him in any crowd. He stood near the far wall, looking way too good in a perfectly tailored suit, a drink in his hand, and that confident, effortless stance that used to make me melt. My stomach did this weird flip, and for a second, I thought about bolting right back out the door. But then Lindsey’s voice yanked me out of my thoughts. “Okay, I'm back.” Before I could react, she handed me another drink, her energy as bubbly as ever. “Thanks for coming. Seriously, it means so much to me!” I forced a smile, trying my best to match her enthusiasm. “Of course. I’m honored to be here.” She rolled her eyes and smacked my arm lightly, laughing. “Oh, stop being so modest. You’re family. I'm surprised you and Ethan didn't come together, but oh well. Couples always fight, right? Now, eat whatever you want, okay? I’ll be right back. Again. I have to say hi to a million more people.” “Go, go,” I s

MAEIt was another picture of Ethan and Julianna. They were holding hands, her other hand clutching a bouquet like they were in some sort of romantic movie, which made me sad instead of happy. My chest felt tight like someone had taken a fistful of my heart and squeezed it. And it hurt badly. I wished there was medicine for heartache because I couldn't take any more of this pain. I just wanted peace. Sighing, I tossed my phone to the side, the screen going dark as it hit the pillow. My fingers brushed against my cheeks, and I realized tears had started falling again. Why couldn't I stop crying? It was definitely because of my pregnancy. Not because of Ethan. Not.I curled up on my bed, wrapping my arms around my stomach without even thinking about it. My voice cracked as I whispered, “I’m sorry, baby. I’m sorry you can’t be close to your father right now.” My hand instinctively rubbed the small curve of my belly, as I could somehow comfort the little life growing inside me. The ac

MAEEthan walked toward us, his chest rising and falling like he’d just sprinted a marathon. “How’s your dad?” he asked with worry. He sounded sincere, like he was genuinely worried, but I couldn't think about why he was there or how he even knew my dad was at the hospital. I glanced at Miles, waiting for him to answer, because I sure wasn’t about to and the only other person who could have told him was Miles. I'd been with Mum all night so it sure as hell wasn't her and if it was Miles, I was going to kill him. Tear him in half.Miles rubbed the back of his neck, looking awkward, and said, “He’s stable now. My mom's with him now.” I stood there, my arms crossed tight against my chest, looking between the two of them. My brain was spinning. Why was Ethan here? He couldn't have magically known Dad was here. My eyes narrowed suspiciously at Miles, and he caught the look. He sighed like he knew what my question was. “I called him,” he admitted, shrugging like it was no big deal. “W

MAE Miles and I bolted outside, my heart hammering in my chest. The second we stepped out, I froze. My dad was lying on the ground, his face pale, his eyes closed. My mom was kneeling over him, her hands on his chest, crying. “Oh my God! Honey!” she sobbed. “Please, get up! Don't do this to me!”“Dad!” I shrieked, running toward him, my broken foot hurting way worse than earlier. Miles sprinted past me, grabbing his phone and already dialing. “I’m calling 911!” he shouted, his voice shaking, not helping my frayed nerves at all.I dropped next to my mom, my hands hovering over Dad like I didn’t know what to do. “Dad?” I whispered, my voice cracking. “Come on, wake up. Please.” He didn’t move. He didn’t even flinch. My mom’s cries were breaking me into a million tiny pieces. My heart was pounding hard, blood rushing to my head, making it very hard to think or breathe. The walls seemed to be closing in on me.It felt like forever before the ambulance arrived, though it couldn’t have b

MAEI zipped up my bag with shaky hands, my chest heaving as I threw the last of my stuff inside. My heart was screaming at me to stop, to wait, to give him a chance to explain, but my brain wasn’t having it. I wanted him to also say something, anything, apologize, beg me to stay, tell me what actually happened, at least explain, but Ethan? Ethan didn't seem to care.He wasn’t even begging me to stay. He wasn’t apologizing. He was just standing there like I wasn’t literally packing my things and leaving, like I didn't mean a single thing to him, like what we had, our love, our bond, our marriage meant nothing to him. And it fucking hurt. It hurt to not see him fight for us. Did he even care about us at all? Did all this even mean anything to him?And then he said it.“Maybe we do need a break from each other.”I froze. A break? I wanted to believe I'd heard wrong, but I didn't. He had said we needed a break and I wanted him to say that he was kidding. I wanted him to say he wasn't s
