I was not expecting a sucker punch, I took a second to comprehend what the hell had happened, coughing on the dust surrounding me, Fyre tore into my thoughts /how dare he hit us like that!/

I shake my head and quickly get to my feet, making sure of his distance. He clearly wasn’t finished as he paced around the gravel circle, his face twisted into a cruel smirk, and did I smell whisky? Had he got himself steamed up and come for a fight with me? He had a smart blue button-down shirt on and suit trousers, he hadn’t even come in training gear.

I’m so confused but I raise my fists and bounce on my toes ready for the next move. He swung to the right, I ducked under his outstretched arm and smash my knee right into his ribs as I swerve around him.

He swung again and once more I ducked but this time I undercut his punch with one of my own, driving upwards straight into his nose. Blood spurted and I take some steps back towards the bleachers. He wipes his arm across his face, bloodying his shirt, eyes flashing with absolute fury and I can tell his wolf is trying to take over. Caleb charges with his full force and jumps at me ready to take me out onto the ground, canine teeth extending outwards and claws visible.

Instinctively I manage to spring underneath his flying body, using every sinew in my body to twist out of reach of the solid lump heading my way.

His head tracks my movement to the side of him and isn’t tracking his landing. Caleb lands headfirst into the ground, skidding in the dust for a couple of feet. I immediately jump onto his back, wrapping one arm around his throat, the other pinning an arm back into a stress position, using my knees and feet to smash into his ribcage. After a minute of this punishment I release my arms from his neck and jumped away from him as he rolled over to face the sky, bloodied, and dusty on the floor.

“I’m done,” I said, picking up my belongings calmly and walking out as casually as I possibly could.

/You did it, you did it, you did it/ whooped Fyre as I proudly walked away with what could only be called a strut. God I needed something to eat now, I’d been in a proper fight!

Incoming motioned Fyre and I looked up in panic but instead saw Jason jogging to catch me up, he didn’t look as elated as I expected though.

“You know what you did there…you like signing your own death sentence?”

“I stood up for myself! I didn’t start anything thing with him?”

“I know but he is the future Alpha!”

“So I should have let him either knock me out or feel me up then?”

Jason looked hurt at my words but I was feeling so disappointed. “Look I’m not saying it wasn’t the coolest thing I’ve ever seen,” he couldn’t help his gentle face breaking into a wide grin. “But you’ve got to admit it’s not a wise move.”

I shrugged and we kept walking together for a few minutes, retreating into my thoughts. Jason was being kind to me and wasn’t an oaf. “Look…I know I’ve been stupid so at this ball on Saturday, would you maybe keep an eye out and if you hear of any nasty plans for me or anything…”

“I’m right there, I’ll be your bodyguard if you need,” and a wave of gratitude washed over me. He was a good kind man and I had the most fantastic idea.

“Don’t take this the wrong way you haven’t found your mate yet have you?”

He looked shocked, and to be honest a bit frightened of me but gave his head a shake and said “Nope, 21 next and not a sniff”.

I couldn’t help laughing at his rubbish joke “Well…I think this ball might be the one, I have a hunch,” and he looked at me with confusion in his soft blue eyes. “Well count me in twice then, you be my matchmaker and I’ll be your bodyguard” and we both laughed and shared a hi-five like children. Although we’d only known each other a few weeks I had a good feeling about him.

We parted ways at the end of town, the excitement of fighting Caleb was wearing off and with hunger setting in, I decided to head home and get some dinner and possibly some ice for my jaw while it shifter healed.

She did it, what a clever thing she is he reassured his wolf. We will need to be careful when we finally approach her. /Until then we watch/ Hydra replied, she must be kept safe, too much depends on her. The protective instinct was already so strong for a girl he had never been closer than thirty metres to. He observed Caleb dusting himself down roughly. Even from this distance he could see his shirt was covered in blood and dirt and that a dark aura surrounded him. Even though they were of a similar size and physical build there was cruelty embedded into his future, Hydra could sense it. Not all wolves are equal Hydra noted, he is a weakling in a giant’s form. Perhaps his wolf was too strong for his personality, it can happen where the controlling link human and wolf is broken. /Not everyone has a superior, fabulously intelligent wolf like you/ Hydra pointed out. His face moved a fraction at his wolfs wit and nodded in agreement. /We had better be on guard at this this ball now/,

Celeste’s mother Runa put the finishing touches to both girls hair and make-up. Celeste was every inch the Roman goddess in her white-gold slinky dress, her blonde hair twirled and styled up into delicately cascading ringlet curls that travelled down past her shoulders, making her gentle blue eyes look even more innocent. “You look amazing!” Helena cried and gave her a hug, “last hug you’re getting from me tonight though, I can’t redo this face now!” Celeste’s laugh tinkled across the room, “I don’t think I’m going to get near you Helena, you’re going to be absolutely surrounded by the guys tonight, make sure we get one dance together though!” As Helena snorted Runa opened the wardrobe door displaying a full length mirror and she couldn’t help but gasp. The dress fit her exactly as she hoped, the material clung to her shape perfectly, the slit cheekily highlighting a long, slender leg, tucking in at her delicate waist without clamping down on her chest. The ruby red colour made her

“Well – time for round two I think." Caleb circled Helena like a hyena, enjoying watching her struggle against Jack. He came very close to approaching her but seeing the rage in her eyes and her legs free to kick at him the thought better of it, for now. Motioning to Jack he growled “Further into the woods, don’t want to be interrupted now do we." As they stumbled onwards, roots and branches causing them all to stumble occasionally Caleb chuckled menacingly. Alle was whooping at their victory, they were going to enjoy this, she would pay for her attitude. As they carried on walking his imagination was firing on all cylinders, but the first thing he was going to do was use Jack’s knife to snip free that halter top and revel in her humiliation. Caleb was so caught up in his plot that he never ever saw the huge cloaked figure appear in front of him. A clawed hand slashed across his face and neck, then hurling him to the ground, choked gurgles erupting from what was left of his throat.

I turned around to try and catch another glimpse but just saw the edge of his cape glide through the trees and out of sight. There was no point trying to chase a phantom. Fyre sighed, frustrated and confused. I had much simpler, immediate needs...a strong drink and a chance to look as normal as possible until the news broke about Caleb and Jack. I headed back into the party making sure to give Alpha Jones and Luna Maeve respectful smiles so they wouldn't view me as absent, headed straight to the glistening long glass bar, now bursting with revellers enjoying the night and muscled my way to the front, purposely being annoying to remain visible to other guests. I kept waiting for the horns to sound and panic to filter through the crowd as news of their attack broke. /Keep calm/ Fyre soothed, /our new friend will take care of it./ But who is he? The question ate away at me causing me to bite my bottom lip in between sips of my drink. My exposed lower back still felt hot from where his g

Leaving the party upon the arm of Bella, surrounded by all these rugged, cloaked men I felt like an Alpha Queen and tried to enjoy the surprise I could feel rippling across the room as we strode out. I gave a cursory nod at Luna Maeve but Alpha Jones was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps news had now broken about Caleb and Jack, Fyre remained on edge, half expecting someone to grab me back for questioning. Calmly we emerged from the foliage tunnel into a cool forest night, guided by fire-lit beacons in an eerie procession. Both the men and women had their cloaks over their heads walking in a line of two guided by fire. I had hold of Bellas arm and heard a gentle whisper "hey...you did good tonight, really held your nerve considering everything." "Thank you," I whispered back, not daring to ask if she meant leaving Five Lakes or not running and screaming onto the dancefloor covered in my ex-Alphas blood. "We're just walking a couple of miles back to the Manor for the night. It's safer on

I immediately assumed it was Caleb and started fighting with all my strength, I twisted, kicked and punched as aggressively as I could until that fascinating scent of woods and spice hit my brain. I halted, arms mid-air and legs bent to try and get a kick in. I hadn't gained an inch against him, one gloved hand remained over my mouth and the other tightly wrapped around my waist. His huge body made me feel tiny and as I realised how tightly I was wrapped up within him the panic vanished. I should have felt my life was in danger but even Fyre was happy to let down the guard. I motioned with my hand an OK signal and felt his tension drop too. His arm across me relaxed a fraction but remained clamped around my waist, his hand against my ribcage. He dropped the hand from my mouth and left it on my shoulder, poised to put it back against me if I played games. I only had my tiny running gear on, the roughness of his trousers, shirt and cloak grated against my sweating body. "Why are you

The last couple of weeks have been a blur but I'm getting there now. I live in the capital, Silver City a two day drive from Five Lakes. My new home was once a grand castle but it's been split into apartments. A previous Alpha Romanov disbanded the whole royal aloofness to encourage loyalty and bonding between Alphas and Beta's, my heritage gets me a little single room with a large oval window looking onto an outer walkway wall where the security team patrol. Surrounding the castle is the township that supports the royal household, several hundred buildings which are enclosed within the huge castle walls. Beyond the walls is the estate with flowering meadows, agricultural fields and vast swathes of pine forest as farms the eye could see. Kyra and Ivan are a few corridors away which is nice but luckily Bella is the other side of my hallway so I don't get lonely. I think I was too quick to judge Kyra, she's a actually a very sweet presence against the sometimes prickly Bella now we've

A week after finding out I'd been involved with the murderer Alexander Romanov I'd managed to keep it together. It was the first full moon since my arrival, the White Forest Ball would shortly be underway, the castle full of the Alpha and Beta family groups. The next ball would be the day of my eighteenth birthday so I wanted to sneak a preview. I helped Bella and Kyra into their dresses and styled their make-up as best I could. Bella’s long straight dark hair was set off beautifully in a shimmering silver gown that clung to her slender shape whilst dripping with sparkling crystals. Kyra’s more petite frame and unusual grey hair was tightly wrapped up in a mermaid style neon blue gown which made her look like something from another realm. Neither of them had found mates yet and they didn’t sound hopeful of the night yielding any better results. “Wait until you see the Dance of Connection,” Bella sighed, “all that twirling around into the arms of everyone on the dance floor is just t

Finally the orchestra started up. Myself and Alexander were surrounded by a crowd of similarly interest people, all waiting to see if a match would be made tonight. Azalea took the hands of her first partner and I saw a little flicker of emotion cross her face. They gently twirled and I saw her duck her head down shyly at the compliment she was receiving. She danced delicately and lightly, her feet barely seeming to touch the ground as the pace of the dance increased to its full drama. Suddenly they swapped and she was in the arms of Drake, her partner from earlier. He looked disappointed, as well he might for Azalea was a shining star in that room tonight. My eyes darted over to Ivan and he was dancing very politely with a tall brunette, but no match. His face was flushed red and his eyes were sparkling wildly, I don’t think I had ever seen him this e

Helena POV After quickly smartening myself up in the bathroom I rejoined Alexander in the corridor. Although I'd fixed up my hair and smoothed out my dress there was no way to hide the happy glow on my face. Alexander was the same, the stern look he'd made a constant feature had finally melted. His forehead was softer and more gentle. He was still the most masculine being I'd ever encountered but he was finally allowing himself to be happy. Holding my hand lightly we stepped back into the ballroom everything seemed lighter and brighter. Moonlight beamed through the uncovered windows, the opportunity for mating was approaching. A few more dances remained before the dance of connection. Before us the swell of couples twirling around us was delightful. The colours of the women's dresses, the music, the merry clinking of

Blinding lights hit me once more, in front of me a drunk, angry and unrecognisable Alexander staggered into view. He seemed to be on a cobbled streetl, the bright lights of a packed tavern displayed behind. He was dishevelled and bearded, dressed all in black as I had first known him. His air was so different to the man I knew, depressed, angry and broken as he fell to the floor in a drunken sloppy mess. Noises broke into my awareness, three men surrounded Alexander and taunted him. They recognised him and mocked him with shouts of murderer, scum and pushed him to the ground. My heart ached at the torment as they started kicking his ribs and head. After what felt like forever he suddenly lashed out wildly, shifting into his massive black wolf form and attacked the three men. Guttural screams ripped across the vision in waves maki

He looked immaculate in his crisp white shirt and dark trousers and he strode confidently through the crowd. His hair was still a shaggy wild mid length, slight stubble and those dark eyes were constantly trained on me. I felt him look me up and down admiring my dress and I gave him a smile. "Alpha Alexander" Ivan nodded with respect. Alexander kissed me on the cheek softly and then graciously offered his hand in greeting to Ivan. "Ivan good evening, thank you for making sure Helena didn't miss out on the dancing in my absence" he said kindly. "Of course, it is a privilege to dance with Luna Helena" Ivan replied. I was so proud of him not being the jealous ape some mates were with their partners. He offered me his arm and with another nod to Ivan we moved to another bit of the dancefloor "ask Azalea to dance!" I mouthed as we separated and he gave me a shy grin back. Finally back in Ale

The past few weeks have been a blur. Once more I find myself stood behind that huge wooden door leading into the ballroom. But it's for a whole new Full Moon Ball. Beside me are Kyra and Azalea and I know out in the other half of the room is Alexander. Whilst we wait for the bugle call I allow my mind to wander, reflecting on the past few weeks. After the night we were mated we had to leave for a week to accompany Alpha Brandon and Luna Holly to Five Lakes to help oversee the transfer of members to the pack. Five Lakes was thankfully not resistant to being taken over by Dawning Star. The appetite for war was not strong like the previous generation. Caleb and Jack had tried to create a fierce, loyal army by force, missing the crucial element of respect and loyalty. Through my suggestion Beta Dawes was made the highest Beta o

I woke up in the middle of the night entwined with Alexander. Under the blankets our naked bodies lay together, and I couldn't help smiling and clasping him closer to me, his big arm was draped over my shoulder, trailing over my chest, his hand resting on my stomach. I had no idea what time it was but I had to get to the bathroom, I gently peeled myself out of his hold trying not to wake him. Easing myself out of the huge four poster bed as I walked towards the bathroom door I saw my heels and dress discarded on the floor. Flashbacks to earlier in the evening made me blush. I'd let Fyre take over and she'd given me the the confidence to be sensual, tease and flirt with Alexander as I'd only dared to dream of before. In the bright lights of the bathroom mirror as I freshened up I couldn't believe how I'd begged him to take m

She was an absolute torture. Just seeing her across the dancefloor talking to anyone else made my soul ache. She was so enticing, glowing in that purple dress, the necklace I'd picked made it clear how much she belonged as a Luna. Those loose brown curls highlighting her frame and shaping her face. She was a queen amongst slaves and every person in the room gave her the respect she deserved. Finally I could take no more, seeing her stood next to my father we locked eyes and hers flashed gold driving Hydra skywards. I'd done a couple of hours at this party surely there was no more. We definitely needed to skip the dance of connection for my jealousy would not endure her being grasped and twirled by all those other men. Her plump lips expanded into a smile and I wondered if she could tell what I was thinking. My cock had ached pain

The rest of the ball seemed to pass by in a blur, after greeting Alpha Romanov again I met Alpha Brandon and the lovely Luna Holly again. A group of Alpha’s from further regions approached Alexander and Alpha Brandon and he gently released me from him arm and asked if I cared to catch up with my friends. I gave him a grateful nod and sought out Ivan, Kyra and Calvin. Ivan and Calvin looked smart in their white shirts but Kyra was stunning in her pink tulle ballgown. “I had a feeling this was going to a big night so I went for the biggest dress I have!” “You really did!” as we clinked our champagne flutes together and smiled. Kyra swept me up in a warm hug, “how is Alexander then, how long have you known him? You two were just too sweet on that dancefloor. You could see him trying not to smile but he didn’t fool me!” she chattered

“We need to go” he sighed, tucking a stray curl behind my ear. I did the same to him, running my hand through his hair felt so natural, like we’d been together for years and we shared a small smile. We walked down the corridor together, alone apart from a few servants scurrying as everyone else had already attended the bugle call and gathered downstairs. My hand was wrapped around his arm and I felt like I could probably float at this point I was that happy. I gave him arm a gentle squeeze and felt proud at being on his arm. Looking up at his face as we neared the gathered crowds I felt him tense and his jaw set back to firm. “Three years away hasn’t made you any less of a prince or a gentleman you know.” "Hmmm" was his only response. We reached the original ballroom entrance, just a few steps away from the gathered crowd and Alpha Romanov. We could hear his speech midway through, annou
