Schuyler

As morning light filters through the open curtains, I roll away from it hoping to catch some more sleep. As my left cheek hits the pillow, pain registers in my brain, and my eyes open wide. I sit up. My fingertips find my cheek swollen and warm. I slide from the bed, padding my way to the bathroom down the hall. I note Dallas’s door is no longer open; I assume she made it home.

My eyes squint at the bright vanity lights. Leaning toward the mirror, I instantly notice my swollen cheek is bright red. The heat and redness concern me. Wanting another opinion, I knock on Dallas’s door.

“What?” she moans.

“Dallas, something’s wrong. I need your help.” I try to keep the concern I’m feeling hidden until I get her opinion.

At my words, I hear footsteps on the tile floor, then the door flies open.

“Shit Schuyler! What did you do?” Dallas asks as she turns my chin for a better look.

“I woke up this way,” I answer.

She guides me into the bathroom for further examination under the lights.

SchuylerStepping from my shower, I wrap my hair in a small towel on top of my head and secure another towel under my arms. I’m wiping the moisture from the large vanity mirror with a spare cloth when I hear a knock on the door.“Schuyler, your mother is on the phone,” Calvin calls through the closed door.“Come in,” I call back to him. “Can you put it on speaker on the counter for me?”He complies then leans against the open doorway.“Hi, Mom,” I greet, tightening the towel covering my chest.“Calvin seems like a perfect gentleman,” my mother swoons, unaware he can hear her.As a red blush graces his cheeks, I decide to not inform her she is on speakerphone. Knowing my mother, she’ll have much to say or, better yet, ask about him.“Dallas shared all the details this morning,” Mom continues. “I’m just calling to see what the diagnosis was.”“The doctor believes it’s a bug bite that I’m having an allergic reaction to,” I share, acutely aware that Calvin’s eyes haven’t left my towel-cove

Schuyler“I’m sorry I answered your phone,” Calvin whispers into my ear. “I should have carried it over to you.”I want to let him know I’m not upset with him; I want to apologize for my ass of a brother, but if I speak, I might lose my paper-thin hold on my control. I nod slightly instead. My cheek rubs against his hard, bare pectoral. I feel his racing heartbeat. His heat soothes me. I tighten my arms around his waist, nuzzling my face against his skin.Calvin slides one hand into my hair, holding me tight to him, while his other lightly caresses my back. An alarm bell in my head warns me this is too intimate. It feels good, and right now, I need this. I’ll worry about the signals I might be sending him later.“Are you okay?” Calvin murmurs. “I mean, I know you’re physically okay, but...”I pull in a deep breath. His musky scent mingled with the outdoors nearly distracts me. I blink a few times, clearing the fog he created. I place my hands upon his chest and push back, looking up in

My bug bite has 200 followers?” She smiles at me before glancing at the feed on my phone. “I should be mad that you created this account.” She gives me a small glare, but it’s half-hearted. She scrolls to the top of the feed, looks at my posted photos in order and all the comments. “How did you guys come up with all of this? You’re creative––you should write fiction or something; you have a genuine talent.”I shake my head. “It all sparked from when I referred to your bite as ‘Mo.’ After that, we fed off each other’s comments. It’s crazy, right?

CalvinThe next day, as we approach the volleyball court, I wonder why Schuyler told us to go ahead without her. She claimed she wanted to finish her current chapter. Now that I think about it, she refrained from joining us in the pool this morning, too. She contentedly read on her lounger, remaining distant. With sides chosen, we volley the ball to warm up. As I monitor the location of the white ball hurling from side to side, I also anxiously watch for Schuyler’s arrival. Something’s up, it bothers her, and I want to help.To my relief, she joins us as we prepare to start the match. Schuyler quickly removes her cover-up and takes an empty spot in the front row. The serve is up, and the match begins. Our team plays with the same enthusiasm as we did last time. We bump, set, and block while we communicate with each other. I admire Schuyler’s long, lean-muscled body in her tiny, navy boy shorts and matching sports bra. She’s distracting. I struggle to follow the ball with her beauty and

CalvinMy eyes open in the dark room. It takes a moment for me to remember I’m napping in Schuyler’s room. Instantly, I’m acutely aware of her slender arm drapes across my bare chest and her long legs twine with mine. I force my breaths to remain steady so as not to wake her. The longer she sleeps, the longer I can enjoy her body snuggling with mine. Two days in Mexico have flown by. I fear I will never have my fill of Schuyler. Our relationship differs from any I’ve ever had. It’s deeper than I’ve experienced with other women, and it’s not even sexual. I can’t fathom how it might feel if we were to sleep together. I already feel my body gravitate toward her. I want to know more; I want to know everything about her.Her arm tightens around me at the same time she lifts her head from my shoulder. In the sliver of light peeking around the edges of the curtain, I see her wipe at her mouth. It’s then that I realize there’s a pool of moisture on my shoulder.“I’m sorry.” Her voice is hoars

SchuylerI’m happy to see Dallas sunning herself on a lounge chair by the pool as we emerge from our afternoon nap. While Calvin quickly hops in the pool with the rest of his group, I signal for Dallas to follow me.“What’s up?” she whispers as we walk from the pool area to the beach. “And where have the two of you been?” She waggles her eyebrows suggestively.I cross the hot sand to the shade of a palm tree. When Dallas joins me, I whisper, “He kissed me.” I then wait for her wisdom and advice.“Oh. My. God.” she squeals, hopping up and down, clapping. “Give me all the details!” Hands together, her fingertips patter against each other maniacally.“Stop,” I demand. “This isn’t good.”Dallas places her hands on my shoulders, looking sternly into my eyes. “This is the best thing to happen to you.”I shake my head. I came to the wrong person for advice.“How?” I’m desperate to understand how this could be a good thing.“You promised to have fun this week. Calvin kissing you is fun,” she s

SchuylerI intentionally sit opposite Calvin at dinner. The pull towards each other grew exponentially today after our pool-side kiss. Besides, from this side, I can flirt and tease him from a distance. I’m careful not to go too far. I only playfully flirt with him. I’m not so cruel to lead him on or suggest I’m ready for something I’m not. Perhaps it’s the dress giving me confidence and a mojo boost. With eyes closed, I groan out loud at the first bite of my appetizer; the crisp calamari with Buckaroo sauce engulfs my mouth.“You’ve got to try this,” I inform Calvin, extending a bite on my fork across the table for him. When he hesitates, I urge him, “C’mon! Don’t be afraid.”Calvin leans forward in his chair and allows me to place my fork in his mouth. I melt into a pool of mush when his full lips close around the tines, pulling back to slide the bite with him.I hope no one notices the full-body shiver that his action causes. My mind wanders to his mouth, tasting my body in the same

CalvinClimbing back into Schuyler’s bed seems as natural as if I do it every night. Being near her is easy and comfortable. I feel like I’ve found the other half of me, my soul mate. With my head propped on two pillows, I watch Schuyler turn on the ceiling fan, her fan on the floor, close the blackout curtains tightly, turn the flashlight from her phone on, shut off the overhead light, then dart to the bed, hopping on the mattress with a giggle.I fight the laugh, trying to escape. In the faint light from her phone, she squints at me.“What?” Schuyler demands, shutting off her phone light and snuggling under the covers.“That’s quite a routine,” I chuckle. “I especially like the sprint after turning off the light and the hop onto the bed.” I turn onto my side, facing her in the dark. “It’s the monster under the bed, isn’t it?”“Maybe,” she murmurs sheepishly.“I can’t sleep with a closet door open,” I confess. I’m sure she thinks I’m teasing, but I’m not.“Who’s turn is it?” she asks,

Montana   Snuggled close, my head on Carson’s chest, my mind rewinds the past twenty-four hours. What a day it turned out to be. “Are you ready to talk about our news?” Carson asks, tucking hair behind my ear to reveal my eyes. “This baby has made me so happy, love.” “What will I do while you go on tour?” I ask, feeling nervous. “Stay in Des Moines or LA?” “What do you want to do?” he asks. “I don’t know,” I confess. “Well, I’d prefer if you were with me in LA while we prep for the tour. Then, I’d love to have you on tour with me,” he says, pulling me closer. “How would that work? Would I drive my own RV and follow your tour busses or be on the bus with you and all the guys?” I inquire. Carson shrugs. “The guys have had women ride the bus with us from time to time. Most of theirs were one-night stands. But I’m sure we could lobby to sleep in the actual bed at the rear of the bus. The guys love you, and as long as you could tolerate al

She promises Montana’s improving with the fluids in her system.Later, a rustling sound near my head wakes me. Neither Tony nor I understand what the two words mean. We attempt to work through it out loud, but we’re too tired. The wall clock reads six a.m. We need Montana to wake up. Then, we need to go home and sleep. **** Hours later, the nurse returns, taking Montana’s vitals. At her movement and tou

Montana I wake deliciously exhausted from our session in the studio followed by hours of lovemaking here in our bed. I take my time stretching my arms over my head then pointing and flexing my toes. Beside me, Denali groans as he stretches, too. He takes up more of the bed with each passing week. He’s going to be huge.My phone informs me it's nearly ten o’clock. Carson’s already in the studio. I’m surprised Denali let me sleep so late. I guess we kept him up late last night, too.“Let me go potty, then I’ll take you outside,” I tell him as he nuzzles my neck, and I scratch his belly. Never far from my side, he follows me into the bathroom, whining as I wash my hands. It’s hours past his usual potty break, so I don’t delay him any longer.Every muscle aches as I descend the stairs, and my head hurts. Once outside, I take a seat on a patio chair as Denali does his business then runs to greet his friend, Snoopy, now on my lap.

I asked your dad to help me with some marketing—I didn’t plan to mess with your recording schedule. I’m sorry.”He shakes his head, smiling. “It’s okay. A break will be good for the four of us. We’ve spent too many hours in this little space without windows to the outside world.”I wrap my arms around his neck, looking up at him through my lashes. “I love you,” I whisper.“I know,” he teases, guiding me into the booth. “Let’s break for the day.”“I’ll be at the pool,” Eli announces.“Remember sunscreen,” I tease him. “Set an alarm on your phone.”“Yes, child bride,” he sing-songs.I hear Jake murmur to Warner,

Montana It’s Wednesday of the next week, and I’ve a billion things to do. Carson’s already in the studio when I wake up. I forego a shower, grab a quick bite, then lock myself in the office. I reached out to Carson’s father last night, hoping to get some ideas on marketing our product. We’re set to meet in a videoconference on Monday.I swallow my last bite of cherry toaster pastry as I enter the office. What a mess. I take in the piles of papers I’ve spread out on the floor. Today, I need to focus on a presentation for Carson’s father, explaining our product so he can best help me with a marketing strategy. The piles on the floor will need to wait.I settle myself in the large, leather office chair behind the desk. I move a stack of papers, freeing up room to open my laptop. While I wait for my presentation software to open, I check my cell phone calendar for today through Monday.Crap! I have my annual doct

Working as a team, we position the buns, condiments, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, chips, and dips. Mom and Dad set up a cooler of water, beer, and pop.Taking turns, we fix our plates soon after then scatter around the patio and poolside, gathering around tables and chairs. Sporadic conversations continue while we enjoy dinner. Dad commends Carson on the burgers and asks which seasoning he used. The two discuss the best flavors of seasonings and barbecue sauces. Luckily for me, the band is on their best behavior, and we enjoy hours with my family.“Time for gifts,” Mom announces.Carson takes my hand and leads me to the round table by my parents. I do look forward to it,” Mom states excitedly. “I assumed my son would give me my first grandchild, but he doesn’t usually stay in the US long enough to meet a girl. Montana I feel like I’m right in the middle of an entertainment show publicity scandal. Like Jake said, “This sucks!” I understand the woman’s need to seek the father of her unborn baby. On the other hand, though, I can’t imagine Warner’s fear that he might be the father. I suspect he fears the DNA result, and that’s the reason he’s protesting it so.I try, but my mind can’t help but wonder how many women Carson slept with while on tour. Having witnessed the women throw themselves at the guys while in Las Vegas, I’m not sure Carson could have refused many of them.I refuse to sit here and wonder about this all night. I snag a bottle of vodka from the bar and head toward Warner’s room. I knock lightly three times.“Leave me alone,” Warner snarls.I ignore his demand, turn the knob, and find it’s unlocked. I slip inside, shutting it behind me.“I come bearing a gift,” I state, extending the vodka bottle for him.
