THE HEAT BETWEEN US

THE HEAT BETWEEN US

"What do you want? I thought I warned you to stay away from me the last time we talked on the phone?” I said, with my hands across my chest. “Alexandria! What did I do wrong? Please tell me, if it's something I can fix, I will gladly do it! Why all this coldness towards me?” He said, moving closer towards me, and I did not move. Looking at his cute face, I sigh softly. “Fred, you did not do anything wrong, okay! We just had fun, and nothing more!” “Fun? Was that all it was to you?” He asked, his eyes turning red at my words. “Yeah! What else? I asked you out myself, didn't I?” “Yeah, but I thought we were dating? Alex, please don't do this to me! After what I have been through, I thought, I have finally found someone who is genuine, and sincere to fall in love with!” He said, with so much passion that I felt it a little bit. But then, I wasn't the type to love someone. "Can't you see? I have fallen in love with you! I'm head over heels for you, Alex!” He spoke softly, holding my hands again, and looking into my eyes. I could see the truth in his eyes, I could tell that he really does love me. But then, it's a pity that I can't feel anything for him.

Chapter: Crack In The Mirror
Instead, i called Daniel. “What the hell happened?” Daniel’s voice barked the second he picked up. “She drugged me,” I said flatly, pacing. “She took photos. She’s already feeding the media.” “You’re kidding me.” “I wish I was. My mother probably already saw the headlines. This is bad.” Daniel let out a long breath. “You need to control the narrative before she does. Deny it. Publicly. Say you passed out drunk and nothing happened.”I rubbed my temple. “And the photos?” Daniel hesitated. “Can you be sure she didn’t stage it all? If you didn’t touch her, we can fight this.” “She wanted me to believe something happened. But I didn’t feel anything—nothing to suggest we—” I broke off, disgust rising again. “She’s trying to force my hand.” A knock at the door interrupted me. I opened it to find my mother standing there, phone in hand, face tight with fury. “You want to tell me what the hell this is?” she snapped, shoving the screen at me. I glanced at it. A social med

Chapter: A Lead And A Trap?
CHESTER BLACKWOOD POV I stood by the window of my office, gripping the folder in my hand so tightly the edges curled. My heart thudded against my ribs as I stared at the document—a new lead. Finally. Daniel had just left after delivering it, his voice thick with cautious hope. “She used her old email to register a pediatric account in New York, Chester. Same name, same birthdate. It’s her.” My breath hitched. Alex! Alive. In New York. With their child? I couldn’t stop the surge of emotion that slammed into me like a tidal wave—relief, regret, desperation. I had been right not to give up. She was out there. And now, maybe, just maybe, he could finally— Buzz. My intercom crackled. “Sir, your mother is on line one.” I exhaled sharply. Of course. Reluctantly, I picked up the phone. “Yes, Mother?” “Chester,” My mom's voice was firm. “You’re attending Madeline’s birthday party tonight. No excuses.” I groaned. “Mother, I don’t care if it’s her coronation. I’m not going.” “Sh

Chapter: Breaking Point Limit
CHESTER BLACKWOOD POV The upscale restaurant buzzed with murmurs and clinking silverware, its chandeliers casting soft golden light over the wealthy patrons scattered across velvet-lined booths and tables. At the center table sat the my mom, an image of wealth and status... if only the illusion matched the reality. I sat at the far end of the table, my body present but soul miles away. Dressed in a crisp navy suit with an expression cold enough to freeze the wine in my glass, I barely acknowledged the waiter who poured for my. My mother gave me a sharp glance, then smiled tightly at our guest. “And of course,” she said with feigned warmth, “Madeline has been such a constant in our family, even when Leon was... distracted.” Madeline Brooks laughed, all teeth and pretense. “Well, I believe true connections always find their way back. Don’t you think, Chester?” I slowly turned to face her. “No.” The table fell silent. Madeline blinked, her smile faltering. “Excuse me?” “I don’t b

Chapter: Unraveling Threads
CHESTER BLACKWOOD POV I stood at the window of my Villa, the city lights below blurring into streaks through the glass. My knuckles were white around the tumbler in my hand, but i hadn’t taken a sip. Daniel’s words echoed like a siren in my ears.“Then find Alex.” I had tried. God, i had tried!.But something about Daniel saying it—like it was still possible—ignited something in me that had long gone cold.I needed to try again. Not for the sake of escaping Madeline. Not because of my parents. But because i couldn't breathe without knowing Alex was okay. Because every morning i woke up hoping to see her beside me, and every night i fell asleep cursing myself for driving her away.My phone lit up on the table with a message from my mother:“Dinner with the Brooks again this Friday. Don’t be late.”I stared at it for a long moment before tossing my phone across the room. It clattered onto the floor, screen flickering.“No more,” I whispered. “No more being pushed around.”I picked up m

Chapter: Madeline's Manipulation
CHESTER BLACKWOOD POV I sat in my office, staring blankly at the glass of whiskey in my hand. My mother had invited me to yet another dinner, and I knew exactly why. She was still trying to push me into accepting the engagement with Madeline Brooks. It had been weeks since the topic first came up, and no matter how many times I refused, my parents wouldn’t let it go. “Sir, your mother just called again,” Andrus, my ever loyal assistant, announced as he entered the office.I exhaled sharply, setting the glass down. “Let me guess—another dinner? Another attempt to shove that woman into my life?” Andrus hesitated. “She says it’s just a family gathering, but we both know what that means, Sir.” I clenched my jaw. My mother meant well, but she didn’t understand. No one did. Alex wasn’t just my contracted ex-wife. She was my everything, and now she was gone. No amount of matchmaking could change that. Still, I knew my mother wouldn’t stop unless I showed up. “Fine,” I muttered. “I’ll

Chapter: Madeline Brooks
CHESTER BLACKWOOD POV I barely paid attention as to my mother's finalized the details of my first meeting with Madeline Brooks. The so-called “perfect match” my parents had chosen for me. I knew I was expected to play along, to sit through dinner, smile, and pretend to care. But deep down, there was only one woman on my mind—Alex.... Despite all my efforts, she remained a ghost, slipping further away with each passing day. My private investigators had failed me. My mother’s words about Alex being dead still haunted me, but my heart refused to believe it. She was out there. She had to be. The night of the dinner came faster than i expected. Seated in an upscale restaurant, i barely glanced at Madeline as she spoke animatedly about her family’s businesses. “I know your mother wanted us to meet,” she said, swirling her wine glass. “But honestly, Chester, you look like you’d rather be anywhere else.” I smirked, leaning back in my chair. “Observant.” Madeline sighed. “Look, I’m not in
