Chapter: 12. The Investigation“So you were on a date while I did the investigation over the weekend.” Bryan complained to Vincent. Vincent shrugged, with a smile, “Spending time with my wife.” He took a seat at Bryan’s study room, “Now tell me what you found.”Bryan sat across from Vincent, taking a deep breath before delivering his findings. "I've got some news about this Jessica," he began, watching as his friend's expression remained unchanged. "I found evidence of a sexual relationship between her and Jerald."Vincent's eyes flickered with annoyance, but he remained composed. "I had a feeling," he said in a measured tone. "But it's not surprising. Jerald has been living with Ms.E for years. He's been disappointing me for a long time."Bryan's investigation had taken him down a winding path, with dead ends and red herrings aplenty. But as he sifted through emails and messages, he began to notice a pattern of communication between Jessica and Jerald. They were subtle at first, but as he dug deeper, the evidence

Chapter: 11. The DateThe rainy season in Singapore starts in Nov. It could be annoying to walk outside such as rushing to the workplace, but when it rained during the weekends, seeing the rain drop on the window could be quite relaxing. That was what Vincent was doing on this Saturday afternoon, when it poured outside, the french windows allowed him to see the city in the rain, and the living room felt quiet and cozy. When Melainy opened the door of her bedroom and walked out to get water, she saw Vincent lying on the coach and lost in thought. They had been living in the same apartment for quite a while, but Melainy still always got impressed with his almost perfect facial and body lines, and his good taste in clothes. Just like now, what a beautiful scene it is to see him relaxing on the coach with the dim light inside the room and the heavy rain outside. Melainy slowed down her motions, taking the water softly so that she would not break the scene. “Oh, morning.” Vincent said, realizing Melainy was

Chapter: 10. The DaisyBryan went to the charity gala with his mother, who always tended to be a bit overdressed.“Later if Ms.E shows up, could you bring me to say hi?” Bryan asked his mother in the car while they headed towards the gala. “Elena?” Bryan’s mother knew who her son was referring to, “Not someone I would purposefully or naturally want to socialize with.” She raised her chin. Coming from one of Jakarta’s old money Chinese families and a friend of Vincent’s mother, she did not really bother to make friends with Elena. “Please mom. I need to mingle with her for some..um…business reasons.”Bryan’s mother curled her lips and nodded. “She’s always well-dressed though. Always look effortless.”Elena showed up at the gala with a silver silk gown with a matching color embroidered handbag. She looked elegant, and as Bryan’s mother said, effortless. But the collar shaped necklace made of pearls and diamond showed her wealth and good taste discreetly. Age has treated her well - she looked like in her 3

Chapter: 9. The MistressThe mistress“Why is it that every time you have to call me when I am on vacation?” Bryan grumbled. “Why is it that every time I call you you are not working?” Vincent asked back, his month slightly upward. “Alright…what can I do for you, The Heir?” Bryan teased, “I’ve told you all popular women perfume names I know. I won’t know more unless I get a new girlfriend.”“Perhaps you should. By the way, we found the perfume the other day by ourselves before you texted me back.” “Who are ‘we’? You and your contractual wife?”“Yup.”Bryan laughed out at the other side of the phone call, “So you two get along pretty well, huh?”“Not bad.” Vincent did not really want to share much but turned the conversation back to the topic, “You’ve met that woman. Do you remember how she smelled?”“That…woman…oh you mean…Ms E?” Bryan blurted out, “Why do you think I could even remember how she smelled? We didn’t have any closer interactions than shaking hands and social small talk,”“I’m sorry if you fe

Chapter: 8. The Perfume“Which department are you in now?” Vincent asked while Melainy put a uni sushi into her mouth. Melainy had to speed up her chewing - now her puffy cheeks made her look like a hamster. Vincent snickered, purposefully staring at her so that she looked even more embarrassed. Finally she finished her sushi, “Operations. Just the first rotation.”“The heart of the company.” Vincent commented. Melainy did not really get why, but she happily took another Wagyu tartare offered by Vincent - he did not eat beef. Seeing Melainy so content with the food, Vincent suddenly felt so relaxed. He was never too particular about food. For him, there were only two types of food - hot or cold. He usually had the hot ones, but sometimes also appreciated the cold dishes such as sushi or tartrate. Same as his life - he grew up surrounded by affluent, at least middle or upper class boys and girls, but Melainy was like a cold dish - coming from a very humble family, yet a pleasantly surprised taste - well-educ

Chapter: 7. The MarriageMelainy woke up the next day with a bad headache. She recalled that she was partying with her friends last night, until Vincent appeared. She lost her soberness after seeing Vincent - what made her trust Vincent so much? She wondered in bed. Picking up her phone from the bedside table, 11am? She sat up quickly. The room was dark because the curtains were drawn. Usually, she wouldn’t draw the curtains completely, so that the daylight could come in and she would wake up early - to maximize the days. Perhaps she should just stay at home for one morning doing nothing. This rare idea came up to “busy Mele” and she shut her eyes. A scene soon started to play in her mind - A little girl finished her milkshake and happy meal in MacDonald, but when she looked around in MacDonald there was no one. All strangers. Tears fell out from her shut eyes. Melainy hence got up from the bed and pulled the curtains. The sun shined in, chasing the darkness away. After washing up, she went to the din
