Chapter: Every Step*Six's POV**3 years later*After doing summer courses and studying my ass off, I’m finally graduating from nursing school in the top of my class and I already have job offers from the local hospitals. It’s been a hectic 3 years trying to keep up with school, Theo and Axle and spending time with our friends. We’re still really close to the whole high school group. Paradox took off faster than anyone was expecting so they’re busy constantly and have their first tour planned for next year. It's a little sad that I won't get to go with him because of Theo's school and my job and whatnot, but I'll use as many vacation days as I can and we'll fly to see each other as much as possible. It's definitely going to be difficult, but we've overcome so much shit together already that I don't think doing l

Chapter: Apartment*Six's POV*About 15 minutes after the band leaves to go set up, we all head out to the dance floor right in front of the stage to secure our places before the hoard gets too large. The head of the prom committee comes on stage to introduce them and then the curtains open. Axle looks down and winks at me so I blow him a kiss back. They start their set and do several songs that are definitely more on the pop end of the spectrum than I’m used to hearing them play. That was probably intentional seeing as most people here would not be into hearing some of their more obscure music. I wonder if the committee had a say in these song choices.Everyone is singing along and dancing and at the end of one song, Axle goes right up to the mic and says, “Alright

Chapter: Cheers*Axle's POV*In the last couple months since Laura died, things have been busy, but thankfully uneventful. Paradox has been practicing a lot and doing gigs all around town and everyone has been studying like crazy to make sure we all graduate, and for Six, to make sure she keeps her scholarship. We’ve all finished our exams and tonight is prom night, to be followed a few days after that by graduation. It’s decided that we’ll all get ready at my place and early afternoon everyone shows up and the girls retreat upstairs. Apparently hair and make up is a big production for them. My mom offered to let them all use her room and the ensuite and even said she would help them out. I think she secretly always hoped for a daughter. Her and Six have been getting really close, which makes them and me happy.

Chapter: Questionable Whiskey*Six's POV*“What now?” Axle asks me.“Home. I need to see Theo.” My car is still at school but I’ll deal with that later. He brings me to the apartment and when I knock on Shaunice’s door she’s obviously surprised to see me since I’m supposed to be at school for another 2 and half hours. She invites us in and then we hear little steps running down the hall and Theo launches himself at me so I pick him up and hold him tight, thanking anyone that’ll listen that I got custody of him before she died. I was worried for a long time that if I lost her it would mean losing him too. I hug him for longer than usual and he starts to squirm so I put him down and he runs off.

Chapter: Less Okay*Six's POV*When my phone starts ringing, I pull it out and see the caller ID and my stomach drops out of my body. They never call.“Hello?”“Hey, Six. It’s Pete. Can you come down the station as soon as possible?”“Did you find her?” He pauses and the dead air over the phone all but confirms my thoughts.“We think so. I can’t say much over the phone, though. Do you have someone who can come with you?”“Yeah," I say, completely numb to emotion.“Okay, see you soon," he tells me.

Chapter: N*****x and Chill*Axle's POV*When I wake up in the morning, I realize I’m pressed very close to the wall and I understand why when I lift my head up to see Theo on the other side of Six, snuggled into her side. She did tell me he does this sometimes.I lie my head back down and attempt to go back to sleep, but not long after, I feel movement in the bed. Six feels pretty still so it must be Theo. I look over just in time to see him stretch and smack her right in the face with his hand by accident. She wakes up, startled and moves his hand back down to his side. I gently rub my hand up and down her leg and she says,”How long have you been up?”“Not long. Maybe 5 minutes. Just long enough to see him assault you in his sleep," I say jokingly.“Yeah, he ca

Chapter: Our Beginning*Violet's POV* We meet my Dad downstairs for breakfast and discuss our strategy for dealing with my mother. Personally, I don’t think it’s going to make any difference what we say if she hasn’t cooled off since yesterday, but it can’t hurt to have a plan. After some discussion, we finally come to the conclusion that none of us has any clue how to approach this so we’re just going to show up and hope she’s feeling more reasonable today. Dad drives us there and we walk up to the front door and stand there awkwardly, unsure if we should be knocking or not. It reminds me of the first time I came here with Kane. Naturally, my brain starts flooding with other memories of that same trip and I feel my cheeks heat up. Get it together Violet. After several seconds, my dad sighs and takes the initiative to knock. We wait there awkwardly for a few minutes before the door swings open to reveal my mother, dressed in a skin tight black dress with her hair curled and

Chapter: Awake*Kane's POV*I’m very pleasantly surprised that Malcolm is so accepting of this. He’s probably the only stable parental figure I’ve ever witnessed. No wonder Violet talks so highly of him. He’s what a father should be and I’m glad she had him to raise her.Truthfully, I don’t know what I would have done if he had reacted the same way as her mother. I don’t think I would have been able to handle causing her that kind of pain, but at the same time, I’m not sure I would have been able to let her go either.“Are you guys hungry? Should we order some food?” Malcolm asks.“Yeah, I could eat,” Violet says and looks at me and I smile. I’m glad she seems to be doing better since breakfast. It was really hard for me to watch her struggle, knowing it was my fault. Malcolm nods and then raises his hand to get the waiter’s attention. We order our food and we eat mostly in

Chapter: My Entire World*Violet's POV*When she tells us to get out, I’m still too mad at her for what she said to Kane to be upset about it. I stand up from my chair and storm out the door, and I know he’s following me.Once I make it out the front door, I storm down the driveway and sit on the curb of the sidewalk. “Well that could have gone better.”Kane sits down beside me and says, “It also could have gone worse.”“I know, you’re right. The important part went okay. And my mom will come around. I think.”He puts his arm around me and I cuddle into his side. “Are you going to be okay if she doesn’t?” He asks me.“I think so. I mean, she was never really there for me before anyway. It’s my dad I’m more nervous about. That would much more difficult.”“I mean, I don’t know your dad, but from what you’ve told me, he seems like a pretty unde

Chapter: Alibi*Kane's POV*After breakfast, we take a shower and then pull out our laptops to study, awaiting the inevitable phone call we’re going to receive today. We both keep checking our phones and I’m a little surprised when it’s lunch time and we still haven’t received anything. We go down to the restaurant and I’m glad to see that Violet is doing better than she did with breakfast. It takes her a while to do it, but she finishes most of her food. If last night caused her to relapse, I would never be able to forgive myself. We head back up to the room, and just as I open my laptop, my phone buzzes and I see Heather’s name pop up. I answer it on speaker phone.“Hello?”“Kane,” Heather sobs through the phone. “Something awful has happened.”“What is it?”“It’s your father. He- He’s dead.” This is the part where my acting skills are

Chapter: The Knife*Violet's POV*As I pull the knife out of the butcher block, I can feel my heart rate increasing. I walk over behind the couch where Harper is sitting. This is the part Kane and I argued most over. He wanted to be the one to do it, but I don’t know how to use a gun.“No. I don’t think that. I think a knife is more your style,” Kane says to him.As I raise the knife up over my head, I don’t allow myself any time to consider my options before I bend over so that my head is about level with his, and then I plunge the knife down into his chest, right where his black heart should be. I let go and back away immediately. He does exactly what I had hoped he would do.He grabs onto the knife with both hands and attempts to pry it out. Now his fingerprints will be the only ones on there. I walk over to stand beside Kane and watch as he looks between the two of us. Blood begins to gurgle out of his mouth and I lean into Kane, plac

Chapter: Confession Letter*Kane's POV*The whole week, Violet and I spent studying and also going over our plan to the point where it might have been considered slightly obsessive. Exams start next week followed by Christmas break so if we don’t do this now, we’ll have to wait until after Christmas and I don’t think either of us wants to have to spend time with my father over the holidays. Besides, the longer we wait the more danger we’re putting the new housekeeper in.On Friday after class, we head to the hotel as we have every single other time, check in at the counter where the same lady is always working. We head to our room and do all of the things we normally do: we get dressed, go to dinner and then head back up to the room, placing the “do not disturb” sign on the door.Violet then sets up her laptop which is set to play 2 different audio tracks at random times through the night to mimic our normal night time activities. We then proceed

Chapter: Forever*Monroe's POV*It’s finally prom night. We all get ready at my house with the exception of Brett and Jason who are getting ready with they’re dates. Deciding to go along with the casino royale theme, I wear a tight, low-cut black dress with a slit up my left side. Maddy is wearing an a-line, v-neck red dress with a slit up the side and Charlie is wearing a long-sleeved off the shoulder, fitted green dress with, you guessed it, a slit up the side. Cade, Xander and Matt look hot as fuck in their tuxedos when they come to pick us up.When we arrive at the prom, all eyes fall on us. We know we look good and we don’t shy away from the attention. It turns out this prom did have fake poison martinis and nerf gun assassinations which were actually a lot of fun. It was even more fun because of the fla

Chapter: Prom-posal*Cade's POV*We spend the rest of the rest of the week convincing everyone to come to Monroe’s party Friday. Naturally, they all come with the promise of free liquor and at the party, Monroe plays a little slide show of her and Maddy breaking down the entire incident, including the photo evidence and it finishes with Monroe saying, “If you’re like us and are sick of Mackenzie’s shit,” and then Monroe and Maddy together say, “Vote for Maddy!” Everyone cheers and Mackenzie storms off and out of the party. The party is a massive success and we’re pretty sure Maddy is going to win. When Monday comes around, once again neither of us wants to go to school. At lunch we discuss college, which is a topic Monroe and I have tried to avoid.

Chapter: Dressed to Kill*Cade's POV*When we leave Maddy’s house that evening, I can’t help but feel like my entire life has changed in the last couple hours. I feel so emotionally drained but my heart still somehow feels complete. We go get Monroe’s bike and then head to her house. When we walk in, she feeds the dogs and then walks downstairs and pours us each a very full glass of very expensive whiskey. “I feel like you probably need this as much as I do,” she says as she hands it to me.She leads me back upstairs to the living room couch and she says, “What are you thinking about?”“A lot of things. I’m thinking about how stupid I was today and how I almost fucked everything up. Bu

Chapter: Cheaters*Monroe's POV*We’re about halfway through the semester and Maddy and I have strategically planned out her party at my house for next Friday which is exactly 1 week from today; the day of the candidate speeches. Our campaigning is going well and all signs point to one of us winning (preferably Maddy). All of the seniors are gathering in the gym to see our petitions. The girls start and Mackenzie goes first. Her presentation starts on the screen and she starts discussing her cheerleading history and ‘how much she’s done for this school’ and then she says, “Besides, the other two options are a girl who’s being cheated on and a girl who’s sleeping with her best friends boyfriend.” She clicks the slide and I look at the screen to find three pictures. The first one is Matt and I walking into a room together, the middle

Chapter: Liquor and a Good Time*Monroe's POV*When we’re back in Half Moon Bay, we spend the rest of our vacation hanging out with our friends and relaxing before we have to go back to school for our final semester. When we finally go back to school, we barely make it to lunch and already all anyone can seem to talk about is the fucking prom.“Did you guys hear that Mackenzie is already going around calling herself our ‘future prom Queen’?” Maddy says.I snort and say, “I don’t even understand how that girl fits that much ego into her tiny body.”“She also said that nobody is allowed to wear gold because she’s wearing gold,” Charlie says.

Chapter: A Ton of Bricks*Monroe's POV*I wake up earlier than a sane person would on their vacation and decide to go for a run on the beach. I don’t wander too far because I feel like Cade would worry if I wasn’t back when he woke up, even though I left him a note. When I get back to the room and find him still asleep, I crumple the note and get into the shower. He joins me halfway through.“You went for a run,” he states.“Yeah, I did.”“What, my workout yesterday morning wasn’t good enough?” He says, wrapping his arms around my waist.“Well, I mean, both are good.”After our shower (which we take our time with), we both get ready f
