“Congratulations you’ve been accepted into Silvervale Academy” My heart raced as I stared at the screen of my phone, seeing the mail, a squeal escaped my lips. I have been dreaming of this day. Getting accepted into Silvervale Academy was something I had always looked forward to. It was one of the best werewolf academies in the country, and everyone scrambled to get accepted, but only the elite had access to the school. I could hardly believe my eyes. Jumping out of bed, I ran out of my room, wanting to share the news with my parents. I met my dad sitting at the coffee table, reading the newspaper. “Dad,” I squealed. I got accepted.” I stood in front of him, wanting to show him the email I had received today. He looked up lazily from the papers he was reading, with no trace of excitement on his face. “We won’t go through this again. I have no money to sponsor you, working to support this family and sponsoring your brother in school is already hard enough” my dad stated. My smile faltered “But dad…” He furrowed his brows, slamming his fist on the table “Don’t be ridiculous Lyra, you should be thinking of a way to support this family instead” “Why does Kaleb get to go to school and I don’t” I retorted Kaleb was my younger brother, who always received my father’s praise. He literally got anything he wanted without having to lift a finger, my family was not well off but it was obvious that he was treated better than me. “You are a she wolf, you are going to end up being a housewife after having children, so going to school would be useless” his words only hurt more. I bit into my cheeks, my father had always made his expectations clear that my younger brother’s education mattered. Mine didn’t. “That’s my own choice to make” He angrily stood up from the chair, “Stop dreaming and help this family by marrying someone rich. At least that way you can also help your brother’s status. This would be the last time we will be having this conversation” he stormed out of the room. My hands balled into a fist as tears threatened to fall from my eyes, I was delirious thinking he would be happy for me. I refused to let his words crush me. Not today. Not after I had finally done something worth being proud of. I looked back at my phone and smiled, my worries immediately disappearing, remembering that I was yet to break the news to my boyfriend Theo. Theo was the youngest son of an Alpha family, he was one of the reasons why I had wanted to attend Silvervale Academy, it was the same academy he attended. Silvervale Academy was an old, prestigious school that only accepted students of Alpha bloodlines and noble families. But this year, for the first time, they began accepting scholarship students. I had told Theo that I would be applying to the school, but he doubted that I was ever going to get accepted considering my background. I could not wait to tell him about it, I knew he would be elated, I thought about calling him but it would be better to tell him in person and I wanted to surprise him. Later that evening, I decided to go to his favorite spot. I knew I would definitely meet him there. I could not wait to see the surprise look on his face, the thought of finally studying together filled me with joy It was what we both wanted, Although he had always told me to give up on the idea of getting accepted into the academy because I was not of the elite, I knew deep down he wanted me to study there or so I thought. I stood in front of the bar, taking a deep breath, I looked at the mail once again, clutching my phone as I entered the bar, it was crowded, loud and the smell of alcohol was pungent. I looked around the bar hoping to see Theo, and I spotted him easily. His familiar gold hair catches the dim light, but the sight made me freeze in place. Macie Hale, the most popular girl in school sitting on his lap. I blinked hoping my mind was playing tricks on me. Theo’s arms were casually draped around her waist, his smile lazy and full with pride. My heart stopped beating for a moment. He did not notice me, his friends surrounded him, they cheered him, urging him and Macie to kiss. One of them laughed “So what will happen to her when you are off to Silvervale? Are you going to ditch your high school sweetheart” “Who? Lyra” Theo chuckled as he swirled his drink “She is just a country girl, our paths were never meant to cross” Everyone around the table laughed. I prayed that I had heard wrong but hearing them laugh made it clear to me. “She is truly crazy, she actually thought she could get into Silvervale” “Yeah right, like they will take someone like her” My chest tightened, they were clearly talking about me and Theo cared the least, it seems he was having fun as they all mocked me. “What about Macie” someone asked Theo leaned back, smirking. “Let’s just say I spent a lot of money making sure Macie got in, she does not need to write any exams” Macie smiled as she ran her hand through Theo’s hair. “And as for Lyra, she will figure out where she belongs soon enough” he added Something inside me snapped. I stepped forward, grabbed a full glass from the counter, and marched straight up to him. The laughter died instantly when they saw me, a shocked look on their faces. “Ly….” I immediately threw the content in the glass at Theo, interrupting him from whatever he wanted to say. The icy liquid splashed over Theo’s perfect hair and designer shirt also getting on Macie's clothes who immediately stood up. Gasps filled the room. “Crazy bitch” Macie cursed loudly trying to wipe the liquid from her dress. “Congratulations,” I smiled coldly at Theo ignoring the enraged Macie “you just got dumped by the crazy country girl”“My muscles are sore” Ivy groaned out as she rolled her arm, holding her shoulder. “I just want to have a cold shower” my voice was weak. We were both tired after the strenuous time we had. Instructor Jose had us train for hours with no rest. If I had complained about Professor Lennox's training, then instructor Jose’s training was the worst. We got to our dorm, and as soon as we opened the door, we stopped in our tracks. The sight in front of us was sickening. Ivy and I stepped into the room and I tried not to throw up at the sight. On my bed was a red liquid that looked like blood, and the metallic smell confirmed that it was actually blood. “Lyra look” Ivy pointed to the wall above my bed, and a word was written there in capital letters, which I also guessed was written with blood considering it was also red. DIE. The word echoed in my mind as I stared at it, they were now breaking into my dorm to threaten me, as though getting death threats through my phone was not enou
The messages had gotten worse, they came at random times, each one more threatening than the last. At first, I deleted them, then I just stopped looking at them altogether. But the words were still haunting me. Regardless of how much I ignored the messages on my phone, the whispers in school were still not helping. I stared at another threat message on my phone, I was tired at this point. “You need to stop looking at those messages, don't let them get to you,” Ivy told me. I sighed, shoving my phone into my bag, as I tugged my cloak tighter around my shoulder. We headed to the training ground for our training lessons. “Did you sleep at all last night?” she asked softly. “A little,” I lied. She gave me a look, “Well you should sleep more, your eye bags are not helping” Before I could reply, the loud, booming voice of our instructor echoed across the training ground “Listen up, everyone” We all turned as Instructor Jose strode to the center, “We’ll be having another duel tod
Ivy had to drag my ass to school. After what happened with Lucy, the school has been quiet, at least, I was not blamed after the live video, but Lucy’s death was still a mystery to everyone, no one knows why she did it. We stepped out of the dorm, as we headed to class. Just as we were about to enter the hallways, a shadow flickered above us, and something fell down really fast with a thud. Ivy and I instinctively jumped back, and on the floor, right in front of us was a dead bird, its neck was twisted at an impossible angle, making it obvious that somebody had killed it and intentionally thrown it down. “What the hell” I cursed out loud “That's creepy” Ivy whispered beside me. We both looked up at the balcony, but there was no one there. “Is this some kind of sick joke?” Ivy was irritated as she stared at the lifeless bird. I had a bad sensation about this, and it gave me a foreboding feeling. We both stepped around the dead bird and walked into the hallway. Walking through
I dropped to my knees trembling, as I stared at the sight before me. Lucy was dead. Her body lay motionless on the ground, as people’s muffled voices filled the air. Ivy was suddenly beside me, grabbing my shoulders, and she shook me slightly. “Lyra, hey, look at me.” I looked up at her. Deep down I just had this guilt eating me up, was I the cause of her death? “It’s not your fault,” Ivy tried to reassure me, as though she had read my thoughts. There were sounds of sirens echoing in the air, indicating that the academy’s medical team and security had arrived. The ambulance had arrived within minutes. Professors and guards pushed through the students, as they got to the scene. Professor Lennox was among them, his face was pale as he told everyone to go to their dorms The crowd began to disperse reluctantly. Ivy and I took it as our cue to leave, as we left, I saw as they covered Lucy’s body with a white sheet. When we got back to our dorm, I sat down on my bed feeling overw
Before I could react, Ivy had already marched forward to meet Zurien. “Let me guess you are here to meet your fling” She scoffed “You know Lyra is in this mess because of you” Zurien did not reply to her and Ivy snapped. “Say something. You are the reason why Lyra was given a strike. Zurien did not flinch, he did not even blink. His hands were in his pockets, as he just stared at her, he was unfazed that she was angry. “Ivy,” I muttered weakly, but I knew she was not done with him. “If you don’t want the match, fine” she continued, her voice rising. “Lyra doesn’t want it either, so do us all a favor and keep your stupid flings away from her” Zurien’s jaw twitched. His eyes flickered briefly toward me, but I ignored him. “Say something,” Ivy demanded. “Are you just….” “Ivy,” I cut in, my voice quiet but firm. She froze mid sentence and turned toward me. “That’s enough,” I said, not looking at Zurien. My voice came out tired, heavier than I intended. “Let’s just go. I am done
The pungent smell of antiseptic filled the air as Ivy and I walked towards Lucy’s room. My heart hammered as Ivy and I approached the door. I was not sure what I was going to expect, maybe that Lucy would finally tell the truth, maybe that all of this could still be fixed. I pushed the door open, to see Lucy lying on a bed, with her head bandaged, and she looked pale. Beside her was Professor Lennox who was already inside and standing near the bed, his arms were crossed and he had an unreadable expression. Lucy sat upright seeing us. “You came right on time, Miss Lyra,” Professor Lennox said without looking at me. His gaze remained fixed on Lucy. “Miss Lucy has just given her statement. And based on her testimony, your strike remains.” My stomach dropped. “What?” I managed to whisper. “She…. she is lying.” I stepped forward, gripping the edge of Lucy’s bed. “Lucy, please. Tell him the truth. We don’t even know each other. You know I did not touch you.” Professor Lennox’s voice
