59. Metaphor for Life

I woke up the following day, and the first sensation was of someone else's presence, a quiet breathing that wasn't mine. I immediately assumed Jules had shifted in the night as a joke or something. But as I rolled over to confirm, my heart skipped.

"What the fuck, Adrien?" I blurted out, recoiling instinctively.

Adrien's eyes snapped open, his expression morphing from dazed confusion to total shock. "What, wait...What the fuck?" He sat up, rubbing his eyes, genuinely bewildered. "What am I doing up here?"

I eyed him suspiciously. "Yeah, fucking right. That just sounds like a perfect fucking excuse to come get into bed with me. Is there something you're not telling me?"

Adrien ran a hand through his hair, his confusion seeming genuine. "Bear and Cam left about ten minutes after y'all did last night. I just decided to go to sleep. I didn't do this on purpose, God. Please believe me. I didn't do this on purpose."

As this conversation unfolded, Jules, who had been sleeping soundly, sat up
