CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR: Denied By My Own Kids

The drive was very silent as I felt a little awkward sitting with the two kids, who kept their distance from me despite sharing the back seat with me.

When I volunteered to take them, they both refused bluntly. What surprised me most was that they stopped crying immediately upon hearing that and even told Emelia they would rather stay than go with me.

This was really embarrassing, but what I was really curious about was what Emelia whispered to them that made them suddenly agree to let me take them. If I asked them what their mother whispered, they definitely wouldn't tell me, would they? It's better to keep my mouth shut than to embarrass myself any further.
