Asher
This was fucked up on a whole other level.
“You are being unreasonable,” Mac said flatly as I stormed into my room and slammed the door shut. “Just accept it. You have a mate now. How long do you think you can run? Isn’t it pretty clear you can’t? It’s fate, Ash. Otherwise, you won’t run into her again. Mates are for life, just accept it. She is the one for you.”
“Shut up! Shut up!” I growled, my mind spiraling.
I just…I had no idea how to process this. That night when I ran into Ivy, I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t in my senses and out of no fucking where I had a mate. My mind was so fogged, those sudden hits of emotions weren’t something I could handle. My reflexes made me turn and run for my life. I was scared. I was so damn scared, for whatever reason. Maybe it wasn’t the obvious reaction when you find your mate, but this was me and that was exactly how I felt.
And still do.
I wasn’t ready for a mate.
“It isn’t a big deal,” Mac assured me. “Just let her in, and you will see how easily everything falls into place.”
“No, it’s not. It’s too much work…it…no, I can’t,” I flopped down on the bed and placed my head in my hands. I was hardcore panicking, sweat beading on my forehead. I have never dated, never had a conversation with a woman that didn’t start with sex and end with sex. Heck, I don’t even know how it feels to love someone. I love my family fiercely, but I’m sure it wasn’t the same thing.
“Asher, open up,” I clenched my jaw as my brothers knocked at the door before flinging it open.
“Way to welcome me,” I sneered, glaring at them.
“Just calm down, okay?” Logan offered. “I know this is shocking…”
“Shocking?” I exclaimed. “I came back after eight months and boom…there’s my mate? Shocking doesn’t even cover it, Logan.”
“Okay, but now you do have a mate and there's nothing you can do about that,” Noah said.
“Precisely,” Logan agreed. “Look, Ash, we understand it can be overwhelming. Both Noah and I had a hard time in the beginning too. But eventually we had to give in because you cannot simply fight a matebond. It’s not possible.”
“Oh, watch me,” I muttered under my breath. “I mean…did you see her? I don’t have the patience to deal with a woman like her.”
“Ivy isn’t like that,” Noah said. “Yes, she’s outspoken and, well, not your typical type, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t a nice person or doesn’t have warmth to her. Don’t judge her like that. You don’t even deserve to after what you did. Imagine the pain she must have felt to find her mate running away from her.”
“Yeah, sorry to say, but she has every right to be pissed,” Logan agreed. “And hey…she’s pretty in a very…unique way. I think she is the perfect partner for you.” I shot my elder brother a dark look, and he raised his arms in defense.
“Ash, there is no way out of this,” Noah prompted.
“Yes, there is. I don’t want a mate, she doesn't want me…we can just reject each other and end this right here before something starts and then one of us gets hurt. Because fuck, what do I know of relationships or worse…love? It would spare both of us the pain. Rejection pain fades away after a time, I guess.”
“Dad will kill you,” Logan said. "Just to clarify, if it's not Ivy, it will be someone else. He didn’t want you to know, but if you returned without a mate, he was going to throw a mating ball for you and settle you with the best possible match. But he wasn’t having you be without a mate anymore. So, isn’t it better to be with the one meant for you than to be with just someone as an arrangement?” I stared blankly at both my brothers, wondering if I heard them right.
“Dad…what?” I growled, and it was such a fierce one that the windows almost shuddered.
“Yeah,” both Logan and Noah nodded.
"What does he think of himself? Do I look like a kid? Am the damn Alpha of the pack! I have sworn that with my blood,” I shouted, my blood boiling with fury.
“Exactly. you cannot fool around anymore, Asher. You are way past your age of finding a mate and settling down with a family. You need to produce an heir. That’s your duty. Picture the girls you could encounter if dad plans a mating ball. Rich, bratty daughters of alphas who would kill to be your luna not because they want you but because of your money and the power that comes with it. Think how that will end for you,” Logan said.
“Yeah. Ivy might not be the warmest of people you can meet, but she is very honest and true to herself. I have seen that. And she is a warrior of blood. You can’t expect her to not be fierce,”
“Where did you even find her?” I sighed, rubbing my face.
“We found her wounded near the pack boundary three months ago. We brought her to the pack and got her treated. When she healed, she told us that her name was Ivyanka Raynott…”
“Ivyanka…” I raised a brow and Noah smirked.
“Yeah, I had a hard time pronouncing that, so we stuck to Ivy,” he said. “I think she is of Hispanic descent or something. But she said an unknown pack attacked hers and destroyed it, killing the Alpha and his family that she served. Apparently, she somehow ran, and now she was looking for whoever did that to seek revenge. She got wounded after being attacked by rogues near our pack and defending herself against them."
“And that was enough for you to let her stay here? A total stranger?” I grimaced.
“No, we had our suspicions, so I sent a few men to investigate, and they found the bodies of dead rogues. She killed all five of them alone,” Noah said, and clearly by the sound of his voice, he was impressed. “Ivy asked if she could stay here and serve in the army while trying to investigate the whole thing that happened to her pack. We were hesitant, but we let her stay and had her monitored closely. She trained with the warriors and I must say she was incredible."
“Yeah, and we’ve needed a female guard for Cora and Rose for so long. Ivy seemed like the perfect choice. She took the oath last week and decided not to take a mate ever. Clearly, she didn’t have a pleasant experience with that,” Logan muttered.
“Don’t guilt-trip me,” I scowled. “And if she has already taken the oath, what’s the point?”
“Cora and Rose can free her of that. And the oath only binds her to not take mate…doesn’t stop her from other stuff,” I raised a brow at Logan and he smirked.
“What do you mean?”
“You know what I mean,”
“Don’t even go there,” I hissed, not ready to even entertain that thought. Her scent was enough. Just a whiff of it had my dick acting up. There was too much drama between us to begin with. Sex would just make things worse.
“Just saying,” Logan laughed. “Look, just think about it, okay? Please?”
“I hate you guys,” I mumbled, feeling irritated.
“You might not when you see the surprise we have prepared for you,” Noah smiled.
“What surprise?” My brothers grinned and shot each other a look.
“You will see tonight…”
IvyI stared at the clear water of the small pond built within the pack, fighting the urge to cry. This was one of those intense moments of loneliness where I just wanted to run away. Ivan, my brother, always used to say how strong and tough I was. But right now I wasn’t feeling that way.Weren't things hard enough? Did this whole mess with Asher have to happen? A mate was the last thing I needed at the moment. And a mate who was literally the Alpha of the pack. Like it or not, that made me the Luna of GrayCrest, the very pack I was betraying. It was a sin of the greatest degree, but I had no choice. Didn’t the moon goddess have enough already? Why did she have to do this to me now?“Maybe a mate was exactly what you needed at the moment?” Silver offered.“Are you kidding me?” I grimaced. “This will make everything worse, Silver. If I accept Asher, I would have to marry him. And then I have to accept his mark and once we have the mindlink, it will be impossible for me to do whatever Ki
IvyThe lake house was at the far end of the endless forest that stretched out around the GrayCrest territory. The lake was beautiful, stretching out as far as eyes could see, and built on its bank was a pretty wooden lake house. It was an immensely peaceful place, which I would often visit when there wasn’t any training or anything else to do.But it looked far from peaceful at the moment. The thundering music could be heard all the way to the primary perimeter, which is the area closest to the pack house. The lake house was located near the final perimeter, where the GrayCrest territory ends. As we got closer, I could hear a lot of noises, people shouting and whistling, those annoying lights they have at the clubs and, of course, the stench of alcohol. It immediately repulsed me, not because of the alcohol, but I just hated noise with a passion.“I want to go back,” I muttered under my breath.“Oh, come on,” Eli said, dragging me by the arm.“Yeah, let’s get drunk,” the girl beside m
AsherPanic. That was the first emotion I felt. It hit me like a damn wrecking ball. My reflexes were on overdrive, already knowing what the next step ought to be. I pushed the blonde away and dashed towards the lake almost within the split second of the splashing sound that echoed around, piercing through the thundering music. I caught a glimpse of her from the corner of my eye as she stood there, sipping beer or something. I had every mind to ignore her and keep up with the blonde and her relentless moans as we groped at each other. But of course, with her standing merely a few feet away, it almost felt like I was a teenage junkie kissing for the first time, not sure what to do. I couldn’t even feel anything. And the moment her scream reached me and I spotted her toppling headfirst into the cold, dark water of the lake, everything, just everything, went to hell. My heart almost lurched into my mouth with fear, m
AsherI watched as Naya dragged my mate away, wrapped in my Delta jacket. Sullenly, I tore my gaze away but looked around spying the crowd that was getting back to partying. But nothing seemed unusual. Then who the hell pushed her into the lake? And why would someone push Ivy of all the people? I saw her standing by the edge and drinking and I just looked away for a split second, and she was thrashing in the water. There were so many people standing by the edge. How would I know who pushed her? Or did she slip?Unable to find anyone who might seem suspicious, I dragged my eyes away and immediately met with Eli's skepticism and disapproval dancing in his hazel orbs. I knew he was dying to lecture me. He already did when he arrived with Ivy, mindlinking me quite some expletives that distracted me from the blonde.“Don’t get started.” I rolled my eyes, grabbing a can of beer.“What are you doing, Alpha?” Eli demanded, following me as I headed to the bar, feeling irritated again.“What?”“
Asher“Her? Who’s her?” Blondie demanded, her face turning the color of her dress as she glared at me.I peered back at her clueless, not sure why I said that crap out of nowhere. I was sweating hard, my heart slamming against my chest and there was a weird sensation, an unspoken need that made my skin prickle and my veins almost about to pop with frustration.“I…” I rubbed my face and as much as I really needed to fuck the life out of someone at the moment, the idea of touching the blonde didn’t feel appealing. And it blew my mind because the blonde was exactly the kind of woman I usually desired. I knew when I stripped her dress off, I would be greeted with expensive, sexy lingerie underneath. I knew she would be the one who would moan so loudly that probably both my brothers two doors away could hear her. I knew she would let me fuck her, however I wanted the moment my fingers touched her. I knew all her responses down to the t, so I knew exactly what moves to pull.Because that’s
The next morning, I woke up to a soft knock on the door. And I was about to shoot out some profanities as I opened the door, but the person who stood outside wasn’t someone I can ever shout at.“Rosie,” I groaned, rubbing my eyes, glad that I was wearing some clothes.“Good morning,” my sister-in-law smiled, holding up a steaming coffee mug in her small hands. “Thought you would need it after all the partying last night,” I moved aside as she walked inside and placed the coffee mug on the side table, then flopped down on the bed, patting the space beside her.Wide awake now, I sat down and gave her a smile. I dearly love both Cora and Rose, but this one, she holds a teeny bit more of a special place in my heart. Rose was younger than us at twenty-three, but she was one of the strongest women I have ever met and the most perfect mate for my brother. My heart warmed when she peeked up at me with that sweet smile, green eyes shining.“You look older, Ash,” she said, running her palm on my
IvyHis fingers slipped inside my shorts while his naked body pressed down on mine. Skin to skin touching, the warm, masculine scent—a concoction of leather, bourbon and cedar wood, seeped into my senses. “You really can’t hide from me,” he whispered in my ear as his deft fingers pushed through my wet folds and found their way inside me. “Oh…” I moaned, my fingers curling into his curls as he pushed his finger deeper and deeper inside me. “See? You want me…” I bit my lip hard as he pulled at my lobe. “Then why do you keep fighting me?” “Don’t to…touch me…” I groaned, not meaning a single syllable. “I can pleasure you like no one can,” I was close, his fingers hitting all the right spots. “I can make you scream…” “Please…stop,” I moaned. “I can fuck you like no one ever has…” So close…I was so so close. “You know why…?” “Asher…” I clenched his hair tighter as he pushed me closer and closer to the edge. “Because I am your…mate,” and I exploded all over his hand the moment that
Ivy“You are late, warrior.”What in the Goddess's name was he doing here? But he was here, his eyes, that deep, intense gaze doing inexplicable things at the pit of my stomach. My heart almost felt like it would plummet out of my mouth.“Er…I…” I didn’t have a reply. What was I going to say? That I ended up sleeping late because you were haunting my dreams last night?“Discipline is the first thing a warrior should possess, don’t you think?” he taunted. I wanted to retort back with something nasty as we both stared at each other, neither breaking eye contact but held back because he was right…I was late.“Yes…Alpha,” I said, keeping my voice firm. He let out a low, guttural growl in response. And I wasn’t sure if everyone else heard it, but I did. When I risked a peek at him, his eyes were a shade darker, jaw even more tense.“Take your place,” Asher commanded. “This was your first strike. Next time…well, there better be no next time.” Gritting my teeth, I took my place at the back, d
