TWO YEARS LATER

I woke up with a jolt, that same nightmare haunting me again, the day Emilio had his men throw me out. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart, but then I saw Asher, my little boy, wide-eyed and awake in his baby crib. A smile broke through my worry, and I lifted him into my arms, feeling his warmth.

“Why didn’t you cry, huh?” I teased, holding him close. “Were you waiting for mommy to wake up?” He just giggled, his little hands reaching for me, and I couldn’t help but laugh. It was our little morning ritual.

As I fed him from his feeding bottle, the memories I was trying to suppress came flooding back. I could still see their cold eyes, hear the harsh words of his guards, and feel the rough grip of their hands as they dragged me out of the mansion.
